FC Barcelona have begun the process of renewing defender Gerard Martín's contract, per multiple reports. The 24-year-old footballer has risen through the ranks and become an important part of manager Hansi Flick's set-up.
Barça are said to be looking to tie him up for longer, with a bigger release clause and a higher salary. There is reportedly no hurry on either side, as he has a contract until 2028. There is a sense of optimism surrounding the negotations, as the team is happy with his performances and the player wants to stay.
Barça reportedly see him continuing to be a key part of the squad and possibly even improving as time goes on. A Barcelona native, Martín was a product of UE Cornellà's academy before going to Barcelona's B team. Reports say he's happy to stay with his hometown club.
So far, there have been no concrete negotiations or even a set date for a meeting on the matter. All that has been reported are preliminary conversations.
A left-back by training, he has broken through as a center-back under Flick. With Ronald Araujo on loan to Liverpool FC, Barça are set to use Martín often this season alongside Pau Cubarsí. There was talk of a potential center-back signing, though none came. Andreas Christensen has split duties as the other center-back to start this season. Barça also has Eric Garcia, though he often plays as a full-back.

A'ja Wilson and Aces could steal No. 2 seed during final WNBA week originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The most dangerous team entering the WNBA playoffs may not be the one sitting atop the standings. Las Vegas returns from the World Cup break with a 27-13 record and a three-game winning streak. The Aces currently occupy the No. 3 seed, but a favorable closing schedule gives them a legitimate opportunity to pass Golden State for second.
Las Vegas trails the Valkyries by two games with four remaining. The Aces own the head-to-head tiebreaker after sweeping their three regular-season meetings with Golden State.
If Las Vegas gains two games during the final week, it would move into the No. 2 seed. The Aces will not face another playoff team before the postseason begins.
They play consecutive games against Seattle, beginning Thursday at Climate Pledge Arena and continuing Sunday in Las Vegas. The Aces then host Los Angeles before completing the regular season at Phoenix.

The 2026 Emmys are kicking off awards season, and all eyes are on Emmy-nominated couple Matthew Rhys and Keri Russell, who stepped out on the red carpet together on September 14.
This year has truly been the Year of Matthew Rhys, who is doubly nominated for his lead performances in Widow's Bay and The Beast in Me. Russell is also nominated for her lead role in The Diplomat. As the famously private duo cheers each other on from the audience, hoping to take home more than one award tonight, Swooon's taking a deep dive into the wild story of how they went public with their relationship, all about their kids, and more.
Russell and Rhys started dating in 2013 after meeting on the set of The Americans. They played married Russian spies. For a while, Russell and Rhys kept their relationship under wraps until their connection was outed by the NYPD.
During an appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers, Rhys revealed that his and Russell's relationship was revealed to the public after a burglar broke into his apartment. "We were together in an apartment, and she woke me up and said, 'I think there's someone in the apartment,'" Rhys explained. "And I said, 'There's no one in the apartment.' And then I heard someone saying something, and I went, 'Oh, there's someone in the apartment!'" Later, the NYPD returned what was stolen from the duo — while they were on set. From then on, the jig was up.
Despite being long-term partners, Russell and Rhys are not married.

Moscow is preparing for a final test of a new ballistic missile capable of striking targets hundreds of miles away and potentially maneuvering in ways that could challenge Ukraine's already strained air defenses, a defense ******* yst warned Monday.
The warning comes as Ukrainian military officials said that Russia could conduct the test in the coming months and potentially in live-fire strikes.
"According to our estimates, Russia plans to conduct final tests of a new type of ballistic missile with a range of up to 800 km by the end of this year," Vadym Skibitskyi, deputy head of the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine (DIU), said at a meeting of the Ukraine-NATO Interparliamentary Council, according to Ukrainian news outlet Ukrainska Pravda.
"If, for instance, this 800-kilometer missile has more advanced maneuverability, well then that's going to create greater problems for Ukraine in that they're going to need the more sophisticated interceptors to get them," Tom Karako, director of the Missile Defense Project at the Center for Strategic and International Studies, told Fox News Digital.

On September 10, Copart (NASDAQ:CPRT) held its fourth-quarter earnings call and used it to unveil a deal that could reshape its business: an all-cash agreement to acquire ACV, a digital auto marketplace that moved roughly $10 billion of vehicles last year without owning a single lot. The announcement landed alongside a quarter that captured the company's central tension. Revenue rose, but net income fell, and management is now betting that pairing its junkyards with someone else's software can fix that.
The ACV deal is the headline, and for good reason. ACV brings more than 22,000 active buyers and inspection and valuation technology, while Copart contributes over 275 locations, roughly 4 million vehicles sold annually, and about 1 million members across more than 185 countries. Management structured it as an all-cash tender offer funded from cash on hand, with a close targeted by the end of the calendar year and earnings accretion expected in fiscal 2028. Executives framed the fit as physical scale meeting digital liquidity, giving dealers, banks, and fleet sellers a single partner for disposing of vehicles.
That diversification push is already showing up in the numbers. International revenue grew 11.7% to $222.1 million on 15% service revenue growth, and international buyers accounted for 45.7% of total US sales dollars despite making up only 38.2% of units, a sign they are chasing pricier vehicles. Domestically, non-insurance units returned to growth of 0.2% in the quarter after a full-year decline, dealer units rose 5.8%, and BluCar, which serves banks and fleets, expanded nearly 20%. Global average selling prices climbed 3.5%, evidence that Copart's auctions still command pricing power even as volumes soften.
The quarter's numbers show where the strain is. Consolidated revenue grew 2.4% to $1.2 billion, yet net income dropped 17.4% to $327.4 million and diluted earnings per share fell 14.6% to $0.35. Operating expense per car jumped 12.7% year over year as the company poured money into long-haul delivery, **** leExpress, and dedicated wholesale facilities, and US facility costs alone rose 7.7% in the quarter. Lower interest income, a byproduct of the $1.63 billion spent on buybacks earlier in the fiscal year, added to the squeeze.
The core insurance business is also cooling. Global insurance units fell 4.2%, with domestic insurance **** ignments down 7.5%, though management noted that figure would have been up 2.3% excluding the loss of a single customer. Collision claim frequency declined 3.4% even as total loss frequency hit a record 23.3% for a second quarter and severity topped $6,300 per claim, up 8.8%. And the ACV deal itself carries integration risk, since management expects only breakeven results before accretion arrives in fiscal 2028.

VIENNA (AP) — Iran on Monday condemned the exclusion of the head of its Atomic Energy Organization from the annual gathering of the United Nations nuclear agency in Vienna saying that it constitutes "a serious breach" of Tehran's rights as a member nation.
"By obstructing our full and effective participation, the denial of access contravenes both the letter and the spirit of the legal framework" governing attendance at meetings of the International Atomic Energy Agency, Iran's ambassador to the agency, Reza Najafi, told delegates at its general conference.
Najafi criticized Austria, the host country of the IAEA and other U.N. organizations, saying that Vienna's decision not to grant a visa to Mohammad Eslami "violates the host country's obligation."
The Russian ambassador to the U.N. in Vienna, Mikhail Ulyanov, echoed Iran's remarks, saying that Austria had "grossly violated" its obligations as host nation of the IAEA.
Western nations had "unleashed a genuine campaign of visa-related abuses so as to settle scores with countries they deem to be undesirable," he said.

DOONBEG, Ireland, Sept 13 (Reuters) - No country should have lower interest rates than the U.S., President Donald Trump said on Sunday, days before the Federal Reserve's ‌next policy meeting.
Speaking to reporters at the Irish Open golf tournament, Trump said he did not know ‌whether Fed policymakers will raise interest rates at their meeting this week. But he said the U.S. "should be paying the lowest interest rate in the world" no matter what the Federal Reserve's data indicates about inflation and the economy.
The Labor Department's Consumer Price Index, a key measure of underlying inflation, on Friday posted its largest increase in four months. That reinforced expectations that the U.S. central bank will raise the target range for its federal funds rate, now at 3.5% to 3.75%, at the conclusion of ‌its Federal Open Market Committee meeting on Wednesday.
Price pressures remain elevated as the economy deals with Trump's import tax increases and surging energy prices tied to the Iran war. Many at the Fed worry that the longer inflation remains high, the greater the cost will be to get it back to target.

Gold and silver investors have had to contend with some sharp price moves so far in 2026. Gold, for example, surpassed $5,500 per ounce early this year, but has since retreated significantly from that record high, with the price of gold sitting closer to $4,275 per ounce as of mid-September. Silver, on the other hand, has also experienced sizable price swings as investors have responded to shifting expectations for inflation, interest rates and the economy.
And those price movements could become even more **** ounced in the days ahead. The Federal Reserve meets September 15 and 16, and persistent inflation has increased the possibility of another rate hike. That prospect matters for precious metals investors because changes in interest rates can quickly alter where investors put their money and how much they're willing to pay for **** ets such as gold and silver.
Still, the outcome isn't as simple as higher rates automatically leading to lower precious metals prices. Gold and silver are being pulled by several competing forces right now, and the Fed's decision is only one of them. So, if the central bank does raise rates this week, what could it actually mean for gold and silver prices — both immediately and in the months that follow? That's what we'll examine below.
Find out how you can use gold and silver to protect your portfolio today.
If the Fed raises rates at its September meeting, gold and silver prices could face some short-term pressure, as higher interest rates tend to make other interest-bearing options, such as bonds and savings products, more attractive. Gold and silver **** ets don't pay interest, though, so some investors may be less willing to hold them when they can earn higher returns elsewhere.

I'm always here for celebrities who are wanting to get yolked, and if takes an Aperol Spritz or two to do it even better. Florence Pugh's been in Venice to promote Netflix's East Of Eden, but let's be honest, she really seems to be there for the content. Her latest was the weightlifting Aperol Spritz video I didn't know I needed.
Pugh was out in the Italian sun with a pal who was instructing her on her Aperol Spritz hammer curls. She opened up about how she sometimes leans forward to get those right, and you can hear her taking instruction in the background, with the filmer humorously noting,"I think you may need to take a sip of the left one to make sure they're even."
She really looks like she's stretching and straining in the video, which amuses me, although I would ******* ume there's a fair amount of liquid in the glass and if you did enough of those you would, in fact, feel the burn. She clarified in the comments she was supposed to be meeting with her personal trainer during this day of travel, but said, "by the time I got there there was only 30 minutes spare so I sent him this."

The Iowa State men's basketball team's trip to the Phog in March 2027 is going to get an even bigger spotlight.
The Cyclones are slated to make one appearance on ESPN's "Big Monday" during the upcoming season, when they go on the road to Phog Allen Fieldhouse to face the Kansas Jayhawks on March 1, 2027. Tip-off is scheduled for 8 p.m. CT in Lawrence.
ESPN started its "Big Monday" showcase in 1987. This season, beginning Feb. 1, 2027, ESPN will highlight some of the top matchups in the ACC and Big 12 through the final Monday of the regular season. The Iowa State-Kansas game at Allen Fieldhouse will round out the "Big Monday" slate for the 2026-27 season.
Last season, the Cyclones and Jayhawks split the regular-season series. Kansas won the first meeting at Allen Fieldhouse, 84-63, on Jan. 13. The Cyclones comfortably evened the series with a 74-56 victory on Feb. 14 at Hilton Coliseum.
Kansas is coming off of a 24-11 season. It lost on a buzzer-beater in the second round of the NCAA Tournament to St. John's. What happened: The 10-year Treasury yield (^TNX) climbed past the 5% threshold on Monday for the first time since October 2023. Meanwhile, the 30-year Treasury (^TYX) yield hovered at 5.38%.
What's behind the move: Bond yields continued their ascent as Brent crude climbed to $108 a barrel, stoking inflation fears and leading investors to price in rate hikes ahead of the Federal Reserve's policy meeting this week.
Goldman Sachs revised its forecast for this week from no change to a rate hike following Friday's August inflation print.
"The report had little impact on our inflation view but pushed market pricing of a hike to nearly 90%, high enough that the FOMC will likely want to avoid the market reaction that would likely follow from remaining on hold," Goldman Sachs' chief economist David Mericle wrote on Sunday night.
Some strategists believe long-dated bond yields may ease if the Fed hikes rates at its Sept. 15-16 meeting.

Kilmarnock have conceded 14 goals in five Scottish Premiership games this season; the only sides in the 21st century to concede more at this stage of a top-flight campaign are Motherwell in 2005-06 (15), Gretna in 2007-08 (15), and Dundee United in 2022-23 (18).
Kilmarnock have failed to score in their past three league games, last going longer without a goal in the Scottish Premiership in February 2021 (five in a row).
