Jalen Hurts did not wait for a question to establish the Philadelphia Eagles' standard for the 2026 season.
Hurts opened his first training camp news conference with a statement about the offseason, the workouts he organized with teammates and the importance of strengthening relationships throughout the offense.
"Really good summer," Hurts said. "We got a lot of work in, got a lot of guys together and definitely grew closer. The mentality is 100 percent alignment, zero entitlement."
The message reflects Hurts' approach to leading a roster filled with accomplished and highly paid players. TORONTO (AP) — Amazon's Prime Video will exclusively broadcast Wednesday night national NHL regular-season games in Canada in English and French beginning next season as part of a new 12-year licensing agreement with Rogers Communications Inc. announced Tuesday.
The streaming service will also carry select Stanley Cup playoff series, including two first-round series and one second-round matchup annually.
The agreement spans the length of Rogers' $11 billion, 12-year deal with the NHL for national media rights on all platforms in Canada through the 2037-38 season. Terms were not disclosed.
"We're thrilled to expand our partnership with the NHL and Rogers in this landmark agreement, which brings even more premium live sports to Prime members in Canada," said Jay Marine, head of global sports at Prime Video.
Prime Video's lineup will include at least 26 national regular-season games, starting Sept. 30, and will be available to Prime subscribers in Canada at no additional cost; Rogers-owned Sportsnet retains the majority of national NHL games. A Rogers spokesperson said the playoff allocation will follow a draft format: Prime Video will receive the fourth and fifth selections among the eight first-round series and the third choice among the four second-round matchups.

A federal appellate panel on Tuesday refused to block President Donald Trump's executive order seeking to restrict mail voting, a day after the administration asked the U.S. Supreme Court to weigh in on the proposal in a separate case.
The three-judge panel of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia upheld a May ruling by U.S. District Court Judge Carl J. Nichols that said an injunction against the order was premature. Nichols ruled that the Democrats and voting rights groups who challenged the order couldn't seek the injunction until the Trump administration issued formal regulations governing it. The administration started releasing those directives days later.
The circuit court panel, with two judges appointed by former Democratic President Barack Obama and one by Trump, found that was proper and there were no noted dissents. But the unsigned decision noted that if the administration truly tried to force such changes in the few months remaining before November's midterm election, it may well get halted by courts.
"The action the Order contemplates would involve the President, whom the Constitution vests with no express authority over the conduct of elections, undertaking a substantial and unfunded overhaul of election procedures — including the implementation of a nationwide reform to Postal Service mail-handling processes —on the threshold of the November election. Put differently, the Order 'may not prove feasible to implement in any manner whatsoever,'" said the ruling, quoting a prior legal opinion.
In a separate case filed by Democratic state officials, a federal judge in Massachusetts last month blocked the executive order from taking effect for this year's elections because it was already forcing states, which are granted the power under the U.S. Constitution to control their own elections, to revise their procedures on the fly. That ruling was upheld on Saturday by a Boston-based appeals court and then was appealed to the U.S. Supreme Court on Monday by the Trump administration.

Fall camp will get underway next week as the Oklahoma Sooners look to build on their College Football Playoff appearance from a year ago. But it's a new season with many of the same returning characters, but this year's group will create its own identity. It's a roster filled with talent, including 10 preseason All-SEC selections. There's an optimism heading into the year despite being voted seventh in the preseason SEC predicted order of finish.
The Sooners will have one of the best starting lineups in college football in 2026, led by a defense that was one of the best units in the sport last season. The offense, which had some shortcomings in 2025, will be much improved this season. It's a group that's hungry to get back to the playoff and do more damage this time around.
But like every team, the Oklahoma Sooners have some questions heading into fall camp. Here's a look at the questions we're asking about each position group heading into the preseason.

LOS ANGELES -- The Tampa Bay Buccaneers could be on the verge of losing another cornerstone player after star defensive tackle Vita Vea officially requested a trade, creating one of the biggest storylines of the NFL offseason and immediately sparking speculation that the two-time Pro Bowler could be headed back to the West Coast.
Vea, 31, is seeking a new long-term contract after negotiations with the Buccaneers stalled. His agent confirmed the trade request just before veterans were scheduled to report for training camp. Although Vea is expected to report to camp, his future in Tampa Bay has become increasingly uncertain as he enters the final season of his current contract, which carries a non-guaranteed base salary for 2026.

The Rays have a bonus pool of $19,09,300 that they are alloted to spend on the selections they made over the first 10 rounds of the draft; for every pick after the 10th round, any amount over $150,000 will be counted towards a team's pool. If a team overspends, they would face the following consequences:

The Pittsburgh Pirates announced Thursday the signing of four players from the 2026 First-Year Player Draft.
The newly signed players include second-round pick and shortstop Aiden Ruiz, third-round pick and right-handed pitcher DeCaro, fourth-round pick and outfielder Andruw Giles and 11th-round pick and left-handed pitcher Spencer Evans.
All four players will begin their professional careers ******* igned to the Florida Complex League. With these signings, the Pirates have now secured 15 of their 21 total selections from the 2026 draft class.
Ruiz was highly rated by Baseball America as the No. 31 prospect and by MLB Pipeline as the No. 32 prospect in the draft. Baseball America also tabbed him as the No. 10 high school player in the draft. Perfect Game recognized Ruiz as the top prospect in New York and the No. 9 prospect in the country.
During his senior year at the Stony Brook School in New York in 2026, Ruiz had a .403 batting average, a .547 on-base percentage and a .625 slugging percentage. He recorded six doubles, two triples, two home runs, 17 RBI, 21 walks and 23 stolen bases in 23 attempts, striking out only eight times in 95 plate appearances.

Joseph Gerth, a columnist for the Louisville Courier Journal, published a piece reflecting on the 84-year-old's career even though McConnell is still alive.
The piece was highly critical, saying McConnell dismantled civil rights protections he once advocated and enabled President Donald Trump.

As high school flag football continues to grow in popularity, so does the number of Section V players earning recognition among the state's best.
The New York State Sportswriters **** ociation put together the first set of all-state flag football teams in 2025. This year's selections include seven players at Section V schools named first team all-state, one more than last season.
Webster Schroeder quarterback Emma Rascoe has completed her high school playing days as a two-time member of the Class B all-state first team offense.
Rascoe, the 2026 Democrat and Chronicle All-Greater Rochester Player of the Year, finished with 63 touchdown passes and 78 total touchdowns during her senior season as Webster Schroeder went 14-2. She finished with 4,729 all-purpose yards, including 3,776 passing yards, while helping the Warriors win the Section V Class B championship. The Warriors were state champions in 2025.
Bishop Kearney standout Nela Lopusanova, a three-time AGR first team member, and East Rochester defensive star Payton Kinney earned Class C first-team all-state honors for the second consecutive year.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Nearly 150,000 California voters had their mail-in ballots rejected for the state's June primary, a spike from recent elections even as the state attempts to make voting easier with the goal of boosting participation and counting every ballot.
California has become notorious for its ponderously slow vote counts that can drag on for weeks and sometimes longer, largely the result of multiple changes over the years that were intended to increase turnout but have done little to achieve that. Among the changes: Every voter receives a mail-in ballot that can arrive at an election office seven days late and still be counted, provided the envelope is postmarked by Election Day.
Yet even with that generous weeklong window, the primary driver of the higher rejection numbers is late-arriving ballots, according to data compiled by the secretary of state's office. Voting experts suspect the main problem is postmarks on ballots that came after Election Day, making them ineligible to be counted. The culprit could be U.S. Postal Service changes that might affect the timing of when postmarks are applied.
According to state data, 148,241 mail ballots were rejected in the June election, or a rate of 1.73% of all mail ballots.

There has been an abundance of NFL-caliber talent come through Eugene since 2020, with a high mark of 41 former Oregon Ducks hearing their names called in the NFL draft — and it's not just mid-to-late-round picks either.
From 2020-2025, seven Ducks were selected in the first round, showcasing the elite talent that Dan Lanning and his staff have not only brought to Eugene, but developed into players worthy of stardom in the NFL. More often than not, those former Oregon standouts have been productive in the league, living up the billing of being selected on the first night of the draft.
On Thursday, CBS Sports released a ranking of all 191 first-round picks since 2020, excluding the 2026 class (which also includes two former Ducks), as they haven't been able to take the field quite yet. Each first-rounder was divided into one of three categories: Best first-round decisions, solid picks with mixed returns and incomplete grades, and the most disappointing selections.
Let's check out where each of the seven first-round picks that came out of Oregon landed in the ranking.

As one of the least likely superstars in NBA history, Nikola Jokić has transformed from an overlooked second-round pick into one of the greatest players the game has ever seen. In just over a decade, Jokić has achieved three MVP awards, an NBA championship, a Finals MVP, eight All-Star and eight All-NBA appearances in just 11 seasons.
Although Jokić reached his prime after the NBA unveiled its 75th Anniversary Team, when the league celebrates its 100th anniversary, his name will undoubtedly be among the most prominent on the list. Jokić still has many years ahead of him to continue building his legacy. For now, here is where he currently ranks among the NBA's all-time greats.

BOSTON (AP) — More than two dozen states on Thursday sued the Trump administration for requiring them to comply with election and immigration conditions to receive billions of dollars in federal funding for disasters.
The lawsuit, filed in Rhode Island and challenging Federal Emergency Management Agency and Department of Homeland Security policies, argued that the administration is requiring states to change their elections systems and help DHS with immigration enforcement. The conditions would also allow DHS to terminate grants at any time and for any reason.
"Once again, the Trump Administration is threatening to jeopardize public safety by unlawfully withholding billions in critical funding and once again, they won't get away with it," Rhode Island Attorney General Peter Neronha said. "This Administration is using the safety of Americans as collateral by attempting to bully the states into relinquishing their constitutional right to enact policies and laws that best serve their residents."
The states argue putting conditions on congressionally appropriated funding violates the Administrative Procedure Act and the U.S. Constitution's spending clause. A spokesperson for the Department of Homeland Security did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
The lawsuit is one of scores that have challenged the Trump administration over its repeated effort to browbeat mostly Democratic states into complying with its priorities to get billions of dollars in federal funding. The strategy has been used on everything from education funding to domestic violence grants to highway funding.

With the 2026 edition of SEC media days wrapping up in Tampa, Florida, on Thursday, the regular season is just over a month away. The Oklahoma Sooners will kick off fall camp in a couple of weeks, all in preparation for the season-opener against UTEP on September 4th.
Head coach Brent Venables, quarterback John Mateer, defensive lineman Taylor Wein, and offensive lineman Eddy Pierre-Louis were the quartet that represented OU during their availability on Monday. While the selections of Mateer and Wein were fairly expected, it was the choice of Pierre-Louis that raised more than a few eyebrows in Sooner Nation. Venables was asked about Pierre-Louis' inclusion in the group, and he glowed about the third-year guard.
"Eddy, he's an alpha," Venables said. "Eddy is a guy that's had to work incredibly hard. I think he was the top-rated guard by many recruiting outlets coming out of high school. Eddy had some things he needed to work on fundamentally, from his body standpoint, flexibility, things of that nature. Eddy has been somebody that has shown up in the facility from the day he got to Norman, Oklahoma with tremendous gratitude."
Venables had previously pointed out that it was difficult to choose the three players who would represent the Sooners in Tampa, lauding the leadership in his locker room.
"One of the many reasons that gets us excited about this year's team is finding the three guys and telling several other guys that were more deserving they weren't going to make the cut," Venables said. "The depth of the leadership we have in our locker room right now is as good as we've had, better than we've probably had here in the five years at Oklahoma. Really excited about that."

But they weren't there for an emergency summit to tackle the supposed crisis, even though the midterm elections are only 15 weeks away.
Instead, these election officials from 37 states met for a long-scheduled professional conference that struck a strikingly business-as-usual tone. In fact, Trump and his primetime address hardly came up.
In interviews with CNN, more than a dozen election officials from both parties said Trump's address surfaced little new in terms of evidence. Several GOP officials even scoffed at his presentation, pointing to the data that the administration released to try to bolster its case that there are massive numbers of non-citizens voting in US elections.
Matt Crane, a Republican who runs the Colorado County Clerks ***** ociation, said his text chat with a bipartisan group of colleagues was filled with "a lot of laughing emojis, and like, 'you got to be kidding me?' that this was all it was."

The San Francisco 49ers have two representatives on Fox Sports' 2020s NFL Half-Decade Team, with left tackle Trent Williams and inside linebacker Fred Warner earning spots on the star-studded roster of top players.
Both Williams and Warner have been with San Francisco for the entirety of the six years being measured — Williams via a 2020 trade from the Washington Commanders, and Warner as a homegrown product of the 49ers' 2018 draft class.

Former IPL chairman Lalit Modi, the BCCI and some of its office-bearers received major relief after the Appellate Tribunal under SAFEMA set aside a key Enforcement Directorate (ED) penalty in a Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA) case linked to the 2009 Indian Premier League in South Africa.
The case stemmed from the IPL’s relocation to South Africa due to India’s general elections in 2009. The ED had alleged that overseas remittances of around 243 crore ($49.86 million) made to Cricket South Africa for hosting the tournament violated FEMA provisions.
However, a division bench comprising chairman Justice Munishwar Nath Bhandari and member Rajesh Malhotra ruled that the payments were legitimate operational expenses and qualified as current account transactions, which did not require prior approval from the Reserve Bank of India. The judgment was delivered on July 16.
In its order, the tribunal described Modi as the “chief architect” behind the organisation of IPL-2 in South Africa and held that there was no material to show he was responsible for BCCI’s statutory FEMA compliance. It termed the penalty imposed on him “wholly erroneous” and set it aside.
Welcoming the verdict, Modi said: “The Tribunal has rejected the central premise on which the Enforcement Directorate’s case against me had been built. It held that the principal foreign remittances relating to IPL 2009 in South Africa were current account transactions, not capital account transactions.”
Calling the ruling a vindication after a prolonged legal battle, Modi added: “For over 16 years I have consistently maintained that I acted in good faith, in the best interests of Indian cricket and the IPL, and committed no personal wrongdoing.”
The tribunal also granted relief to the BCCI and State Bank of India, overturning most of the ED’s 2018 penalty order while retaining only minor fines on the BCCI for administrative delays.

The Bengals announced Wednesday, July 22 that Trumpy and Brooks were selected as the 2026 Ring of Honor inductees, based on a vote by season ticket holders from a ballot featuring 12 individuals who have played a significant role in the franchise's history and tradition.
Trumpy, who played for the Bengals from 1968 through 1977, and Brooks (1984-91) will join Ken Anderson, Willie Anderson, Paul Brown, Isaac Curtis, Corey Dillon, Boomer Esiason, Chad Johnson, Dave Lapham, Tim Krumrie, Anthony Muñoz, Lemar Parrish and Ken Riley in the Bengals Ring of Honor.
The induction ceremony will take place during halftime of the game against the Tennessee **** ans on Nov. 1.
