At first glance, it's natural to be apprehensive about MGM Resorts (MGM). Sure, MGM stock itself is ranked as a 40% Buy, according to the Barchart Technical Opinion indicator. Further, the technical profile suggests a continuation of the long-term trend. At the same time, the ticker faces significant economic headwinds.
I don't need to list all the challenges **** ociated with the devolving Iran crisis that have stymied recent progress for the casino and resorts giant. Las Vegas itself has undergone a sort of paradigm shift relative to pre-COVID norms. Factor in rising inflation and the soaring cost of energy and you have good reason to be skeptical of MGM stock, which has lost 2.47% in the trailing month.

Electronic Arts announced the completion of its acquisition by a consortium comprising Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund, private equity firm Silver Lake, and Affinity Partners, the investment firm led by Jared Kushner. The deal, valued at $55 billion, closed on Tuesday, according to CNBC.
EA shareholders received $210 in cash per share. The company's stock has ceased trading and has been delisted from Nasdaq, EA said.
The consortium's agreement to acquire the Redwood City, California-based video game maker was first announced on September 29, 2025, and EA stockholders approved the deal at a special meeting on December 22, 2025.
Andrew Wilson, chairman and CEO of Electronic Arts, said in a statement that the company would "invest boldly, accelerate innovation, and build the next generation of games and experiences" with its new partners.
Turqi Alnowaiser, deputy governor and head of international investments at PIF, noted that the fund had been a minority investor in EA for more than five years. "Entertainment and sports are key areas of strategic focus for PIF, and are among the fastest growing and evolving sectors around the world," he said in a statement.

ESPN's Bill Barnwell recently went team by team projecting each franchise's realistic Hall of Fame candidates, and while several 49ers stars fared well, one veteran was tabbed as unlikely to reach Canton.
Barnwell explained his approach before sorting players into five tiers: players that are in, on the cusp, need to keep it up, have work to do and will be missing out on the Hall of Fame, based on historical comparables rather than personal opinion on merit.
San Francisco had plenty of representation across the spectrum. Barnwell listed receiver Mike Evans, running back Christian McCaffrey and tackle Trent Williams as locks, while tight end George Kittle and linebacker Fred Warner landed in the "on the cusp" group. Edge rusher Nick Bosa and quarterback Brock Purdy were tabbed as having "work to do" but remain on a promising trajectory.
Fullback Kyle Juszczyk, however, fell into the "missing out" category despite a decorated career in the Bay Area.
Juszczyk will be a fascinating case to see whether that keeps up, given that he just earned his 10th consecutive Pro Bowl nod in 2025. Of course, while Juszczyk is a good player, it's fair to wonder whether he's racking up Pro Bowl appearances by virtue of being the most conspicuous player at a position where there simply aren't many others, just as Mike Alstott became a six-time Pro Bowler with the Bucs. Juszczyk plays only about half of the offensive snaps in a typical game, and it seems telling that the 49ers were willing to cut him this offseason before re-signing him, saving about $500,000 in the process. I'd be a little surprised if he made it in just given how the league has valued fullbacks.

Our ****** ysts just identified a stock with the potential to be the next Nvidia. Tell us how you invest and we'll show you why it's our #1 pick. Tap here.
Madden NFL, the video game that allows you to escape reality by doing things like coaching the Jets to a Super Bowl, now belongs to Saudi Arabia's sovereign wealth fund and, in a small but well-compensated way, the President of the United States' son-in-law.
The Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia closed its $55 billion purchase of Electronic Arts on Tuesday alongside Silver Lake and Jared Kushner's Affinity Partners. Shareholders collected $210 a share in cash. EA's stock stopped trading and comes off the Nasdaq, ending a 36-year public run.
It's the largest leveraged buyout in history, a phrase worth sitting with, because the previous record holder was the 2007 buyout of Texas utility TXU, which ended in one of the biggest bankruptcies in American history.
The financing is where this gets video game-level fun. PIF (which already owned roughly 9.9% of EA) borrowed $20 billion from JPMorgan, which also advised the consortium, so JPMorgan earned a fee for recommending the deal and now earns interest funding it. Kushner, who reportedly brokered the introduction between the Saudis and EA, runs a fund that PIF seeded with $2 billion in 2021 over the objections of PIF's own advisers. The money left Riyadh, hired a Kushner, and came home with EA Sports FC and Jedi Survivor.

The Diamondbacks are taking a low-risk shot on veteran reliever, signing right-hander Dennis Santana to a minor league deal two weeks after he was designated for ******* ignment by the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Santana was dominant with the Pirates last season, logging a 2.18 ERA in 70 appearances out of their bullpen while converting 16 of 19 save chances. He was not the same reliever this year, pitching to a 6.05 ERA in 41⅔ innings.
Santana has an intriguing connection to the Diamondbacks: He crossed paths in Pittsburgh with Diamondbacks ******* istant general manager Jeremy Bleich, who until December had been the Pirates' director of pitching development.
"Obviously, have history with player, but I think we would do the same move with anyone in this sort of script," Bleich said. "Obviously, the reliever pool is extremely volatile. He was good in Pittsburgh and he had a tough year this year. We have found a few things that are different from last year, so I think in this context anytime you can get a pitcher who has had real success at the major-league level and you can find a specific thing or two that you can try to improve in a short period of time, it's worth the investment in resources to do."
Asked what specifics the organization will try to adjust with Santana, Bleich kept it vague.

Nottingham Forest appear to be moving with a certain clarity now, the sort that suggests a squad is being shaped to meet the demands of Oliver Glasner rather than merely patched together for another season. According to TeamTalk, Forest are exploring a notable double move, one aimed at the centre of defence and the centre of midfield, with Jhon Lucumi and Tijjani Reijnders both under consideration.
The report states that Forest "have shown clear interest in defender Jhon Lucimi" and that the club "have already sounded out the conditions required to complete a deal for the Bologna star". Whether that develops into a formal push, it reflects a sensible instinct. Lucumi is described as "a solid addition who could bring greater defensive solidity and competition for places at the back", and that profile feels aligned with a side seeking greater certainty without sacrificing aggression.
Photo IMAGO
More eye-catching, perhaps, is the mention of Reijnders. TeamTalk says the Manchester City midfielder "has emerged as a realistic target to replace Elliot Anderson". It is an intriguing description of Forest's ambition. Reijnders offers rhythm and progression, a player whose "vision, energy and ability to dictate play make him an attractive option for Forest's engine room". In a league increasingly settled by who can control transitions, that sort of midfielder carries rare value.
There is, naturally, a complication. "Man City are open to a sale of Reijnders if an offer of around £60million arrives," the report says, though "there is a strong feeling that the player would prefer to remain at a club competing in European competition." That tension is familiar to clubs operating just beneath the established elite. Recruitment becomes part persuasion, part projection.

Meet the Mets pitcher making MLB fans mad over 'cocky' jumping strikeout celebration originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
Much like famed reggae artist Marcia Griffiths, Mets reliever Jefry Yan feels like jumping.
New York has had plenty of eye-catching athletes bear its colors in recent years, from Juan Soto to Edwin Diaz. Few have displayed the plyometrics quite like Yan, a gymnastic of sorts from the mound — who happens to be armed with one of the hardest fastballs in the league.
Yan made his big-league debut in the Mets' 6-5 win over the Guardians on Aug. 5. He shined from his post atop the hill, striking out two while getting out of a bases-loaded jam in one inning of work. Manchester City midfielder Rodri may have a huge decision to make this summer on whether to join La Liga giants Real Madrid or Barcelona - should he decide to leave Etihad Stadium.
The 30-year-old is into the final year of his deal at City and is yet to sign fresh terms.
Real have held a long-term interest in signing the player, but sources at Barcelona said on Thursday that the club now had the player's approval to open negotiations with Manchester City.
Barcelona sources said there were no guarantees any deal would be made but that it was a key development.
Rodri said earlier this season his future would be sorted out after the tournament, but he is currently out of action after undergoing back surgery.

Last year, Emmet Carroll's mother sent him a clip of tennis legend Roger Federer's commencement speech at Dartmouth College.
An avid tennis fan, Carroll's interest was piqued when Federer mentioned how he won 80% of his career matches, but only 54% of his career points. During those points, Federer felt they were the most important thing in the world. When he lost, though, he moved on.
The same process applies to Carroll. Like any goalie, he immediately knows when he should've saved a shot, and his natural reaction is to dwell on it. At the University of Pennsylvania, he learned to work through that, but being mentally strong as a goalie is an evolving process.
"That's helped me just move on," Carroll said of the Federer speech. "The film's always going to be there after the game, and you're always going to sort of wish you had it back, but it does you no good in that moment dwelling on it."
As the Maryland Whipsnakes prepare for their final regular-season stretch and likely playoff run, they need Carroll to be at the top of his game. Utah's Brett Dobson is the only goalie with at least five starts who has a better save percentage (60.1%) than Carroll (56.8%). However, like the rest of his team, Carroll is still trying to consistently put together complete outings.

Minnie Driver just revealed she was in a "really bad" car accident in a new video while wearing a neck brace.
On Thursday, August 6, the Good Will Hunting actress, 56, took to Instagram with a message for fans after the scary crash.
"Hi, guys. Paris update is that I'm actually back in London," Driver began the clip, while lying on her side on a bed with a neck brace and cuddling her dog. "I got into a really bad car accident a few days ago with my friend, Ben. And we somehow walked out of it. Well, we didn't walk out of it; we crawled out of it. But we did get out of it alive."
She continued, "To be very clear, it was not our fault. We were driving on a country road in the middle of France, and a car didn't stop at an intersection and was going at speed. And we just T-boned it."
Of her injuries, Driver said she has a sprained neck and is "sort of in shock and crying all the time." She added, "But I'm going to heal. And the reason I'm not dead, honestly, is the car that we were driving."

Crystal Palace are giving serious consideration to a move for Antoine Mendy, with TeamTalk reporting that the Eagles are monitoring the Nice defender closely as they ******* s defensive additions this summer.
The 22-year-old Senegal international has emerged as an intriguing target. Comfortable at right-back and centre-back, Mendy offers the sort of profile many Premier League clubs now prioritise, athletic, strong in duels and tactically flexible. According to the report, Palace value his "athleticism, physical presence and versatility", and those attributes make him an understandable option for a side looking to add depth and quality across the back line.
There has already been movement behind the scenes. "Sources have confirmed that contact has been made with his agents." That does not amount to an advanced deal, but it is a notable early step in a market where groundwork often decides who gets ahead.
Photo: IMAGO
Mendy's rise has been steady and credible. He has "established himself as a regular at Nice" and his recent involvement on the international stage has further strengthened his standing. The fact he "recently started in the final of the Africa Cup of Nations, raising his profile considerably" only adds to the sense that Palace are looking at a player whose reputation is moving in the right direction.

Hotchkis & Wiley, an investment management company, released its second-quarter 2026 investor letter for the "Hotchkis & Wiley Mid-Cap Value Fund." A copy of the letter can be downloaded here. Equity markets posted strong returns in the second quarter of 2026, with the Russell Midcap Index rising 13.8% and the Russell Midcap Value Index returning 13.4%, despite concerns about inflation, a hawkish Federal Reserve, and rising oil prices due to the Iran conflict. The San Francisco 49ers list of injured players surged during Wednesday's practice when offensive lineman Nick Zakelj and defensive end Sam Okuayinonu both exited the session early with unknown ailments.
Zakelj and Okuayinonu joined DE Nick Bosa, linebacker Dre Greenlaw, defensive tackle Osa Odighizuwa, OL Carver Willis, wide receiver Jacob Cowing, fullback Kyle Juszczyk, OL Brett Toth among the players who were new to the injury list before and during training camp Wednesday. That's on top of WR Mike Evans, WR Christian Kirk, WR De'Zhaun Stribling, RBs Kaelon Black and Jordan James, OL Vederian Lowe, DL Keion White and S Malik Mustapha all already sitting out practice with various injuries.
However, while the list of San Francisco's injured ballooned to 20 including the trio of players on the PUP list, ESPN's Nick Wagoner had a note that shows the injury situation might not be as bad as it looks on paper.
Wagoner posted a different sort of injury update in his daily practice recap on Twitter:
For the record, many of these guys, including Evans and Kirk did some work on the side, including some full speed running. Guerendo and Mustapha, in particular seem to be close to back. Greenlaw also seemed to be fine as he got a bit of a rest today with soreness. He watched practice from the defensive back field.

Diesel consumers can be excused if they are exhausted from trying to project where the prices they pay at the pump will be going after the events of the past few days and weeks.
The weekly Department of Energy/Energy Information Administration average retail diesel price that is the basis for most fuel surcharges fell Monday, published Tuesday, to $5.348/gallon, up 3.5 cts/g. It's the fourth consecutive week the benchmark has increased, up 77 cts/g during that time.
The increase came as prices are rapidly falling in the futures market on the latest news that a deal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz is imminent. That decline came after a sharp slide in the prior three trading days on that same hope, as the market quickly embraces any prospect of an end to the closure of the strait.
Price movement in the ultra low sulfur diesel (ULSD) contract on the CME commodity exchange during those three days, and into Tuesday, have been some of the most volatile since the U.S. and Israel launched their attacks on Iran at the beginning of March.
With the market latching on to any talk of some sort of settlement that would reopen the Strait of Hormuz, the price of ULSD on CME fell, respectively, 3.68%, 2.09% and 5.93% in the three trading days ending Monday.

SCHUYLKILL HAVEN — In an unofficial start to the football season, the Schuylkill County Football Coaches **** ociation hosted its 23rd annual Schuylkill League Football Media Day on Wednesday morning at the Schuylkill Haven Sports Performance Center.
The event has grown exponentially over the years and has become a staple of the local high school athletic scene, offering one of the few opportunities when all 14 coaches in the league are **** embled in one location.
"I think really the true benefit is, from the players' standpoint, getting them exposed to the media and to this type of setting and situation, I think helps them grow as leaders," said Mike Farr, Schuylkill Haven coach and leader of the Schuylkill County Football Coaches **** ociation.
"From the coaching standpoint, we have a lot of stuff going on. We have our physicals and all kinds of paperwork. All these media outlets coming after us every other day for information," he continued. "So, being able to get the media and the coaches in one place where we can kind of sort through the majority of that, I think, is really where the benefit comes in."
While it serves as an opportunity for student-athletes to get comfortable with interviews, it also allows first-year head coaches an opportunity to meet the media.

There's a position group Alabama State football coach Eddie Robinson Jr. claims is deeper and more talented compared to last season.
Through the transfer portal during the offseason, the Hornets reloaded at the cornerback position — adding seasoned players with more height to the room.
It's hard to be critical of Alabama State's passing defense in the 2025 season. The Hornets finished second in the SWAC when it came to passing yards allowed, and middle of the pack when it came to passing touchdowns. But it was a position that saw a handful of combinations in the starting rotation.
Throughout the early part of Alabama State's fall camp, there has been a heavy rotation again, but for good reason.
"So it's a lot of options," Robinson told the Montgomery Advertiser concerning the position battle in camp. "It'll sort itself out, as they say, but I think the competition is what makes everybody play their best."

Dallas Cowboys wide receiver CeeDee Lamb appears to be taking an unorthodox approach to addressing the issues he endured with drops during the 2025 NFL season.
Lamb was spotted during a Cowboys training camp practice on August 4 catching passes from a JUGS machine with some sort of net or cloth draped over his helmet.
Lamb was able to consistently catch passes from the machine despite his vision being impacted by his head-covering. His counterpart, George Pickens, wasn't able to enjoy similar success when he briefly gave Lamb's drill a try.

Zyhir Hope did not pretend he had everything sorted out the moment he learned he had been traded to the Detroit Tigers.
The 21-year-old outfielder had just been moved for the second time in a little more than two years, this time becoming the centerpiece of Detroit's return for Tarik Skubal. His first reaction was not polished or rehearsed.
"I didn't know what to feel in the moment," Hope said via the Detroit Free Press. "You know what I'm saying? But yeah, I'm just ready for some ball. I'm excited."
That combination of uncertainty and excitement makes sense. One day, Hope was part of the Los Angeles Dodgers organization. The next, he was packing, flying across the country and joining Double-A Erie as one of the most important prospects in Detroit's system.

During a News24 interview, TalkTV host Samara Gill questioned if the ***** ss is "trying to sort of launch a political career." The discussion started when reporter Danica De Giorgio asked her opinion on the Sussexes intervening in the Minnesota lawsuit drama. They questioned why Markle would grab attention through a controversial statement when she often reportedly requested "privacy."
Gill claimed that Markle and Harry "constantly invade their own privacy." Furthermore, she wondered why the Sussexes got "so political" with their statement berating Musk's move against the Minnesota lawsuit. "Is Meghan trying to sort of launch a political career potentially? Is this her going for governor of California?"
On the other hand, Gill also thought that Markle and Harry might just have wanted to have "an opinion about absolutely everything." She and Giorgio then advised the non-working royals not to intervene in the political matter.
For those unversed, Harry and Markle released a statement, more like an article, on their official Archewell Philanthropies website. The ***** le read, "Can we all agree technology should not enable predators to target children?" Meanwhile, the content was about Minnesota passing a "ban on AI 'nudification' apps." They also mentioned a "trillionaire leader of the tech company responsible for X's Grok" trying to stop the law. Although they didn't name Musk directly, the line made it evident.

The biggest moves of the NBA offseason, by and large, have been completed.
There are still a few key free agents and moves that need to be made, yes, but the calendar is settling into something of a summer lull. And, not surprisingly, this offseason did not lack monumental moves.
None were bigger than trades that brought Giannis Antetokounmpo to the Heat and Jaylen Brown to the 76ers. Joining Brown in Philadelphia, no less, is LeBron James, who will be joining his fourth different team in his 24th NBA season. There's plenty to sort through.
Here are grades for every NBA team's offseason:
Mitchell Robinson is a solid addition. He'll bolster the low-post defense and will provide a spark without demanding the ball on offense. Can he be dependably available as a starter? That remains to be seen. The bigger problem here was the team's move to ship Jaylen Brown.

Namibia is rapidly emerging as Africa's next major oil producer while neighboring South Africa, which controls roughly two-thirds of the same Orange Basin petroleum province, remains years behind in developing essentially the same petroleum system. The Orange Basin, an offshore deepwater petroleum province spanning the Atlantic maritime border between the two countries, is estimated to contain more than 20 billion barrels of oil equivalent. Yet while Namibia has attracted a succession of world-class discoveries and moved rapidly toward commercial development, South Africa has struggled to translate the same geological opportunity into producing **** ets.
TotalEnergies' (NYSE:TTE) deepwater Venus Project in offshore Namibia now targets an initial production capacity of roughly 150,000 barrels of oil per day, with first oil aimed for 2030. Venus-1X is estimated to contain 1.5 billion barrels of light crude and 4.8 trillion cubic feet of gas. TotalEnergies has also taken over operations of the massive Mopane discovery from Portugal's Galp Energia (OTCPK:GLPEF).
Last month, Shell Plc (NYSE:SHEL) and its JV partners reported a major oil discovery at the Merlin-1X exploration well within Petroleum Exploration Licence 39 (PEL 39). Located in Namibia's Orange Basin roughly 290 kilometers off the coast, the resource has recoverable reserves estimated at 750 million barrels for Phase 1. The success of Merlin-1X marks a critical turnaround for the consortium.
In early 2025, Shell booked a $400 million impairment on its Namibian offshore portfolio following engineering hurdles at older discovery wells with complex geology and high gas-to-oil ratios, including Graff-1X and Jonker-1X. Those challenges had initially slowed commercialization plans, but the Merlin-1X discovery has significantly improved the outlook for the company's Namibian acreage.
