The inaugural Spanish Grand Prix at the Madring has drawn heavy criticism from F1 fans and drivers over the limited overtaking opportunities on the narrow circuit. Its layout reportedly made the race a dull spectacle for many, and now even Spain's Minister of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, Óscar Puente, has weighed in. Puente didn't hold back, describing the event as "an absolute dud."
Puente has kept his criticism constructive, comparing the Spanish GP with the Monaco GP, which is also known for offering limited overtaking opportunities. Monaco's narrow city streets have become increasingly challenging as F1 cars have grown larger over the decades, while significantly widening the roads is simply not a realistic option.
Despite Monaco's reputation for limited overtaking, this year's race featured 10 overtakes during the entire race, according to a social media post from Autosport. By comparison, the Madrid race last weekend saw just four overtakes.

ESPN College GameDay was very profitable for one University of Texas student. Each Week on the pregame show, former kicker Pat McAfee picks one student to take part in his Kicking is Easy field goal contest. This week, he picked Connor Kacena-Merrell from Zionsville, Indiana. And Matthew McConnaghey was on hand to help.
The Texas student from the Indianapolis-area complimented McAfee on his philanthropic efforts and said he enjoyed watching McAfee and new Pro Football Hall of Famer Adam Vinatieri at Lucas Oil Stadium, home of the Colts.
The freshman also said he would donate half his winnings to Building Tomorrow, an Indianapolis-based non-profit organization that works with communities in East Africa to give children access to quality education.
Kacena-Merrell had plenty of leg in his first attempt, but pulled it just a little bit wide right. McConnaghey and ESPN College GameDay's Kirk Herbstreit each promised to add $100,000 to the pot and gave Kacena-Merrell a second chance. Kacena-Merrell took advantage.
The UT student booted a strong kick right down the middle to win $1.2 million dollars. No matter what happens at the Texas-Ohio State game tonight, it was a great day for the young man from Indiana.

FOUNTAIN SPRINGS — Williams Valley Coach Frank Gaffney has said throughout the season that his team is resilient. That showed on Friday night, as the Vikings overcame an early deficit to beat North Schuylkill, 19-14.
North Schuylkill dominated the early action, controlling the ball for much of the first half.
The Spartans opened the game with a seven-minute, 16-play drive that covered 75 yards and ended with a 9-yard touchdown pass to Daniel Brake.
The North Schuylkill defense got off to an equally hot start and forced a three-and-out on each of Williams Valley's first two possessions.
The Vikings ran just eight plays, including two punts, in the first 18 minutes of the game.

Michigan defensive end Dom Nichols understands exactly what John Mateer can do when a pass rush loses containment.
He saw it last September.
Mateer threw for 270 yards and added 74 more on the ground while accounting for three touchdowns in Oklahoma's 24-13 victory over Michigan. The Wolverines will get another shot at the Sooners on Saturday, and Nichols is not being subtle about what he expects when Mateer tries to escape the pocket this time.
"He's not getting away from me," Nichols said this week.
There is some bite behind the confidence. Nichols opened the 2026 season with nine tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks against Western Michigan, emerging as one of the few uncomplicated positives from Michigan's shaky 13-12 victory.

Moore High School product Braylyn Saenz announced her commitment to the Sooners via Instagram. Saenz is ranked as the No. 41 overall prospect in the class by Softball America.
"I have decided to commit to the University of Oklahoma to further my academic and softball career," Saenz wrote.
Saenz is also ranked as the No. 13 ranked middle infielder and No. 3 player in Oklahoma.
The Sooners will begin their fall Battle Series games on Sept. 30.

The torch has officially been passed. The glorious era of the Allen family's ownership of the Seattle Seahawks has officially come to an end. In the week leading up to the season opener, ownership transferred from the Paul Allen estate to the Khosla family. This was inevitable following the NFL's approval in late August of the record $9.6 billion dollar sale Vinod Khosla put forth.
Now, Vinod and his family are in charge of the Seahawks. Vinod himself carries the ****** le of Chair of the Seahawks. His wife Neeru Khosla is now designated as the Controlling Owner of the Seahawks, and President of their Charitable Foundation. Their son, Neal Khosla, is the Vice Chair of the Seahawks.
But we at Seahawks Wire would be remiss if we did not acknowledge the legacy of Paul and Jody Allen, and what they gave to both the Seahawks franchise and the Pacific Northwest. Under their leadership, they helped transform the Seahawks into a national, championship caliber brand. Paul saved the city from being relocated to the Los Angeles area under the previous ownership of Ken Behring. Part of his purchase agreement included the Washington state legislature to hold a statewide referendum on funding a new stadium, which passed, paving the way for the iconic Lumen Field.

SIERRA DE LA PANDERA, Spain (AP) — Enric Mas added to his lead of the Spanish Vuelta on a mountainous 14th stage won by Marco Brenner on Saturday.
Mas tacked some 25 seconds onto his advantage over Primož Roglič after dropping the four-time former winner on the final climb and linking up with a front-runner from his Movistar team.
Félix Gall crossed with Mas and moved into second place ahead of Roglič in the general classification. Gall is 2 minutes, 6 seconds behind Mas, with Roglič falling to 2:10 behind the leader.
Brenner won the grueling 151.9-kilometer (94.4-mile) stage in high temperatures after he bettered his fellow breakaway riders and edged Santiago Buitrago at the finish. Brenner had time to zip up his Tudor team suit just as he crossed the line in 4 hours, 15 minutes, 9 seconds. It was the 24-year-old German rider's first win at a grand tour.
The stage was held in an area just north of Granada that was under a heat warning with highs forecast for 38 degrees Celsius (100 Fahrenheit) in Jaen, where the day's racing started. Riders tackled a pair of category-two climbs as they rode through a landscape of sunbaked olive groves before a final ascent to the category-one Sierra de la Pandera.

A football player has been banned for 10 matches after an independent panel found he had made a discriminatory comment towards an opposition player.
Alex Francis, of Salford's Irlam FC, had denied making the comments against a Hallam FC player during an FA Cup match in Sheffield on 9 August, which an FA spokesperson said included a reference to nationality.
The FA said an independent National Serious Case Panel found the allegation to be proven following a hearing and said Francis had until 4 September to appeal against the decision.
Hallam FC secretary Ashley Carson said the punishment was "rightly deserved", adding: "We don't support this sort of thing going on." Irlam FC declined to comment.
The player's suspension is due to start on Monday.

My eleven-year-old is still trying to learn the Dougie. Over a decade since it entered the cultural bloodstream, and it is still moving through generations like a living thing. I grew up on the Running Man, the Kid-n-Play kick step, the Wop. These were not just moves. They were rituals, practiced on living-room floors, performed at local parties. And yet, in most cases, I had no idea who originated them. I knew the artists who introduced them to the zeitgeist. Still, the actual creators, the people whose bodies birthed the movement, had essentially vanished from the record. That gap, between cultural impact and cultural credit, is precisely what Connor Lim is trying to close. So, we brought him onto the latest episode of the FROM THE CULTURE podcast to better understand how.
Lim is the co-founder and CEO of the International Dance League, the world's first global professional dance league. Six city-based teams, a regular season, a championship, and, as of this past summer, a global media rights deal with ESPN. IDL grew out of STEEZY, an online dance education platform he built after a childhood in Queens, completely consumed by the craft. For most people, dance is considered an art form, but Lim sees it as that and much more: a sport. Consider the battle traditions of breaking, krumping, and voguing, and Lim's perspective no longer feels like much of a stretch. In fact, breakdancing made its Olympic debut at the Paris 2024 Games as an official event, a testament to dance's competitive nature. It's this thesis that fuels Lim's ambition for the IDL to make dance as big of a sport as basketball, football, or baseball. However, unlike athletes, dancers have never sat inside a structure that captures the value they generate.

This is a double-edged sword because, even as an art, dance misses out on this value capture. Music has royalties, touring, and publishing rights. These are all mechanisms by which value accrues back to the creator, so an ecosystem forms, and the people who make it are remembered and rewarded. Dance, for all its cultural reach and resonance, has no such machinery. So, knowing the originator served no structural purpose, and the credit simply evaporated. Lim put it plainly: people act as they are incentivized to act, so he's built the IDL on a system of incentives.
The late Charlie Munger, longtime vice chairman of Berkshire Hathaway, famously stated, "Show me the incentive, and I will show you the outcome," emphasizing that an organization's operational reality and culture are direct reflections of its underlying incentive system. The Green Bay Packers' roster cuts on Sunday, Aug. 30, included 30 players plus more who were waived with injury designations.
The list included notable releases such as offensive lineman Darian Kinnard, edge rusher Arron Mosby, defensive lineman **** r Stackhouse and linebacker Kristian Welch, all of whom played in regular-season games for the Packers last season.
It also includes one draft pick from this past spring in Alabama cornerback Domani Jackson, a player taken in the sixth round and the fifth of the team's six-player class.

William Jewell announced that junior running back MicahJo Barnett has died. Barnett appeared to suffer a medical emergency on the sideline during the Cardinals' home opener against Fort Lewis on Saturday.
"William Jewell College and the Liberty, Missouri community mourn the passing of Micah Jo Barnett," the school wrote in a statement. "Our thoughts and prayers are with Micah Jo's family, our students, the Cardinal Football family, and the rest of our community during this time of loss."
Per the school, a vigil to honor Barnett will be held Saturday night.
Play was suspended in the first quarter on Saturday after Barnett began suffering from what Liberty Fire EMS called "seizure-like symptoms," via Fox4 KC's Harold R. Kuntz. The game was later called off, with Kuntz reporting that Jewell players were emotional as they left the facility.
Barnett, who is from Liberty and attended Liberty North High School, was majoring in business administration, per the athletic department's website. After playing in eight games as a freshman, he started in five games last season before suffering a season-ending injury. Barnett also received all-Great Lakes Valley Conference academic honors last season.

STUART — Rod Harris understands that his Martin County High School football team isn't especially loaded with firepower.
As much as a stress-free night would be nice, the longtime Tigers coach understands his team won't win many games by four or five touchdowns. The alternative, a grind-it-out style, has proven fruitful lately. And that style may be exactly how Harris and the rest of the program drew it up.
Martin County relied on a hard-nosed running game and a punishing defense to outlast Santaluces 21-16 on Friday, Aug. 28, at Napoli Orthodontics Stadium. Two of the Tigers' three trips to the end zone came courtesy of the defense.
Dating to 2025, Martin County's last five regular-season victories have been by seven points or fewer.

The Minnesota Vikings and Denver Broncos won't meet again during the 2026 season, but they would certainly love to.
It's a sign of the great expectations that both franchises enter the campaign with, believing that the pieces in place can deliver some great memories and plenty of wins. As usual, it all comes down to the quarterback – the position that separates these two foes.
Bo Nix shined for Denver in the team's second preseason game, showing no signs of rust coming back from a fractured ankle. On the opposite sideline, it has been another offseason of quarterback controversy in Minnesota, headlined by J.J. McCarthy.
The Vikings put their faith in the former Michigan man, hoping he could stabilize the position for years to come. Instead, he has struggled in the preseason and ceded the starting job to Kyler Murray.
In the preseason finale, that remains the most interesting thing to monitor. McCarthy won't suddenly steal the job back, but the Vikings' quarterback room isn't just Murray and him. It's also Carson Wentz and Max Brosmer, who were forced into action in 2025.

A Sheffield boxing trainer is to be inducted into the British Boxing Hall of Fame.
Glyn Rhodes MBE began his career in the ring aged 19 under the tutelage of legendary coach Brendan Ingle and now runs Sheffield Boxing Centre, which has produced numerous champions.
Rhodes will be honoured at a ceremony next year which celebrates figures in the boxing world who have made a lasting contribution to the sport.
The 66-year-old described the news as both "tremendous" and "surreal", adding: "This is voted for by people in boxing, your peers in the game. That makes it special."
Rhodes trained alongside the likes of Herol "Bomber" Graham and "Prince" Naseem Hamed in what he said was a "golden era" for the world famous Ingle Gym in Wincobank.

The NFL is expanding the mental health resources available to players and their families.
Beginning Sept. 1, NFL players and any family members on their insurance plan will gain access to a network of vetted clinicians in every NFL city. Players can use these resources, in addition to in-house clinicians, without visit limits or coinsurance requirements, NFL vice president of wellness and clinical services Dr. Nyaka NiiLampti told Yahoo Sports.
The network launch comes in the wake of a spring announcement by the league to increase mental health resources in three tiers following the deaths by suicide of Cowboys defensive end Marshawn Kneeland and Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Rondale Moore last November and February, respectively.
The league announced in March that it was increasing its in-house clinical presence to require teams to staff full-time mental health clinicians, up from the previous requirement that teams staff clinicians at least eight to 12 hours a week as mandated by the NFL-NFLPA collective bargaining agreement. The NFL also has sought to increase efforts to support the mental health of players battling injuries, as Moore had in the years prior to his death. And the NFL and NFLPA partnered with Cigna Healthcare to create this network.
"Historically the sense was that players don't use mental health resources," NiiLampti told Yahoo Sports by phone on Tuesday. "Sports is a microcosm of society. So in the last few years we've seen everybody increase their use of mental health resources and this population is no different. And so we've probably had more difficulties trying to find a provider than we have had people willing to use the resource.

Christian Gonzalez is back practicing with the New England Patriots.
But the star cornerback remains without the long-term contract extension he has been seeking throughout the offseason with the regular season two weeks away.
Gonzalez returned to practice Monday after being sidelined since Aug. 10 with a minor injury, according to coach Mike Vrabel. He was back in uniform for the team's workout on Tuesday, its last before heading to Cleveland to prepare for the Patriots' final preseason game Thursday night.
But Gonzalez wouldn't confirm whether his absence was completely based on an injury, with no relation to the ongoing negotiations between the front office and his agents.
"I'm not going to get into that," Gonzalez said. "I'm out here now. So it is what it is."

Tyrese Maxey went into the offseason off of what has been one of the more impressive seasons in his career, putting up career-highs with 28.3 points per game, as well as 6.6 ***** ists, showing that he still has a lot left in his bag to use on the court. There's a case to be made that the 25-year-old's incredulous work ethic has made these improvements possible, and all of that really kicks into high gear during the offseason.
The last few months have been an example of Maxey's work rate despite not taking place during the season, as he's been in the gym constantly, working with some new teammates, including Jaylen Brown and LeBron James, or more recently, taking some time with the younger members of the Philadelphia 76ers, VJ Edgecombe and Labaron Philon Jr.
Yet a gym session didn't include a teammate, but rather a conference rival: Indiana Pacers guard Tyrese Haliburton.
Both of the former all-stars were seen in the gym together, having been working out with skills trainer Drew Hanlen, with one of the shots of the two seeing them face off, with the Sixers' star taking the lead with the rock.

The Washington Commanders trimmed their suddenly crowded running back room by one recently. Last week, Washington placed fifth-year veteran Jerome Ford on the reserve/injured list after he'd suffered a hamstring injury in the preseason opener against the Miami Dolphins.
Once Ford was moved to IR, the Commanders and Ford were expected to reach an injury settlement, which would allow Ford to sign with another team once he's healthy. According to Martenzie Johnson of NOTUS, Washington recently released Ford, meaning he's no longer on the roster.
The move is not a surprise. Even if Ford had made it through the preseason healthy, he faced long odds at making the Commanders' 53-man roster. Jacory Croskey-Merritt and Rachaad White are locks, while rookie sixth-round pick Kaytron Allen is close.
With Washington likely keeping four backs, veteran Jeremy McNichols is the leading candidate for the final spot, but undrafted rookie Robert Henry Jr. is making a push. After a strong showing in the preseason opener, Henry had a rough outing in Saturday's loss to the Lions. McNichols is currently sidelined with a quad injury, but Washington knows him well and everything that he brings to the table.

Coby Mayo had two doubles for the Orioles and Pete Alonso had two hits to extend his career-high hitting streak to 14 games. Rico Garcia (5-1) pitched an inning for the victory.
Liam Hicks homered for Tampa Bay, and Chandler Simpson singled to extend his hitting streak to 13 games. The Rays have lost three straight and seven of nine. They remain three games ahead of the Yankees.
Hicks led off the second and lined a homer over the scoreboard in right to make it 1-0.

Italian Alessio Magagnotti sprinted to the first professional victory of his career, pulling off a surprise victory over top favourite Paul Magnier on the second stage of the Tour of Germany on Friday.
The 19-year-old outmanoeuvred the Frenchman in a thrilling sprint in Offenbach an der Queich, in the state of Rhineland-Palatinate.
"I just gave it everything and managed to come out on top. It's a dream come true for me. Now I just want to enjoy this moment," Magagnotti said.
Magnier finished second and Portuguese rider Iúri Leitão completed the stage's podium. Maximilian Walscheid was the best German rider, finishing fourth.
France's Louis Barré remained the overall leader, six seconds ahead of second-placed Isaac del Toro of Mexico.

It's good to see that Iraola's beliefs on Liverpool's squad depth (or lack of) haven't changed since earlier in the summer transfer window.
And with us still short up front, not to mention in several other departments, it couldn't be clearer to the neutral that Liverpool are heading into the new campaign without an appropriate array of tools.

I think the reason why I stated that is because you go into media, and it's not anything even about basketball," she told USA Today. "I think I could do both," she said. "Ask me about what's going on and what I said. And also ask me how great my teammates are doing, how great our team is doing, how great the league is doing. We can be a great example of how to do both."
Cunningham also addressed the league potentially needing to move on from commissioner Cathy Engelbert.
