The Seattle Seahawks are set to kick off their preseason opener at 5 p.m. PST against the Dallas Cowboys at Lumen Field. Here are four bold predictions surrounding main narratives in this game, which will give us the first taste of game action as defending champions.
First, I believe six to seven healthy running backs- George Holani, Jadarian Price, Emanuel Wilson, Velus Jones Jr., Jacardia Wright, TJ Harden, and Justin Jones- to get carries. We'll see them all side-by-side and make a fair evaluation on the eye test, then discuss after the game in takeaways and Studs & Duds. Maybe we'll even get a feel for the baseline RB pecking order at the current moment.
Second, don't sleep on Dallas' depth along both the offensive and defensive line. They've bolstered their formidable new interior duo of Kenny Clark and Quinnen Williams with a plethora of edge pieces, from Otito Ogbonnia and Rashan Gary to Donovan Ezeraiku and Dee Winters, plus backups like Jaishawn Barham and rookie LT Overton out of Alabama that should play a lot tonight. A first-time offensive play caller is as good an opportunity for surprise as any, so I expect this to be the talking point of the night when all is said and done. PHILADELPHIA – Few combat sports homecomings had the level of drama that Jeremiah Wells experienced Saturday at UFC 330 at Xfinity Mobile Arena.
His opponent Myktybek Orolbai seemed to be on the verge of a breakthrough moment, dominating social media numbers throughout the week, with a strong Kyrgyzstan fanbase seeming ready to lay claim to a megastar. However, Wells (14-4-1 MMA, 6-2 UFC) had other plans.
If one didn't know better, they'd think from the ovations that the opening prelim was taking place in Kyrgyzstan. Orolbai (16-3-1 MMA, 5-2 UFC) was thunderously cheered. The home-area fighter, Wells? He was greeted with some boos – mostly from the vocal Kyrgyz in the crowd.
For two rounds, things seemed to be going according to plan. The heavy favorite Orolbai dominated the grappling, slowly beating down Wells with ground-and-pound. But Wells showed glimpses of success, mainly with his boxing.

With Major League Baseball tracking statistics for just about every scenario and situation, Eric Karros has one they may have missed.
In his first season with the Los Angeles Dodgers, Kyle Tucker is having the worst season of his Major League career. Tucker and his wife also had their first baby in March, shortly before the season began. And while Tucker was at the plate Thursday night, Dodgers play-by-play voice Joe Davis, who has three kids of his own, noted it would be interesting to see a breakdown of stats for players with young children.
"It'd be fun to see guys with kids under five, their home/road splits vs players that don't have kids under five," Davis said.
The implication is that when players with young children are at home, their sleep will be interrupted much more than when they're on the road, possibly affecting their on-field performance. As a dad of three kids ages four and under myself, I can attest to the rarity of uninterrupted sleep. But Dodgers ****** yst Eric Karros wanted to take the stat a step further, wondering what it might mean if a player with young children had great stats at home.
"Then you could track it even more," Karros said. "Guys are having great years with young kids, and then four years down the road, they're divorced."

A year after being on the hot seat, Ohio State head coach Jake Diebler enters the 2026-27 season with lofty goals and has the Buckeyes slotted in many pre-season top 25 polls.
Ohio State brings in eight new players -- both transfers and freshmen -- nearly all of whom are expected to make some sort of impact this season, and that is combined with returnees and potential All-Big Ten players John Mobley Jr and Amare Bynum.
According to one ESPN insider, Ohio State could be the 'Big Ten Sleeper' this season.
"The Buckeyes could be a Big Ten sleeper, provided they pull the pieces together," Myron Medcalf wrote. "Doing so will demand another outstanding season from John Mobley Jr. (15.7 PPG, 41% from 3), who will play next to incoming five-star and projected top-10 draft pick Anthony Thompson. Jake Diebler also added a strong portal class, including Justin Pippen -- the son of NBA legend Scottie Pippen -- who led Cal in scoring last season. The Buckeyes went dancing this past March thanks to a late push. It's easy to predict Selection Sunday should feel more comfortable next year."

Ann Arbor — Michigan head coach Kyle Whittingham and defensive coordinator Jay Hill have said the defensive line is the strength of the defense heading into this season, but they have also suggested the depth in the secondary is nothing to sleep on.
Returning starters Zeke Berry and Jyaire Hill appear to be set at the corners, while two-time captain Rod Moore, who said he's fully healthy after dealing with multiple knee surgeries since April 2024, and UAB/Memphis transfer Chris Bracy are the safeties. Michigan still has plenty of time left in preseason camp to make determinations at all positions, but the staff is feeling fairly confident about the versatility of the secondary.
"This is the only school I've ever been at where I really believe we could have three great nickels, and I can put different guys in there based on mismatch," Hill told reporters recently. "So Smith Snowden, Zeke Berry, Sug (Hill) … I've never had three interchangeable guys that are so different at that position. It's a fun luxury to have, and I'm kind of excited to see how I come up with how we do it."
There is a versatility required to play nickel requires, and Hill is relishing the options at his disposal as he **** embles his defensive chess board.
"You got to be able to cover man to man," Hill said. "You got to be able to tackle. You got to be very intelligent because we use those guys in a lot of disguises. We use them to blitz. Other charges were dropped. After entering the plea by video, Haddish was placed on 12 months' probation and told to avoid drugs and alcohol and complete a substance abuse evaluation. She was credited for the brief time she spent in jail following her arrest.
Haddish's films include the comedy "Girls Trip," "Night School," "Like a Boss" and "The Kitchen." She wrote the New York Times bestseller "The Last Black Unicorn," which earned a Grammy nomination for a subsequent audiobook she narrated. No, he's not hacking into female students' photo libraries or illegally scouting opposing teams or sleeping with his administrative ******* istant. Those are garden-variety scandals in the Michigan program over the last few years.
In the eyes of some Michigan fans, Whittingham is committing a far more serious offense: He doesn't hate Ohio State enough.
"Would we have a better chance to win if I hated them?" Whittingham said. "I don't understand. Whatever gives us the best chance to win, I'm all for. Want to beat them worse than anybody around so I don't know how that got to be such a hot topic."

Round 1: I picked fourth overall, which is where I want to be in general. In this dream scenario, Puka Nacua fell to me despite me considering him the 1.01 in full-PPR formats. It'd be Nacua, Ja'Marr Chase, Jahmyr Gibbs and then Bijan Robinson for me at the top before a slight tier drop to Christian McCaffrey, Jaxson Smith-Njigba, Amon-Ra St. Brown and Jonathan Taylor. That tier has slightly more risk or slightly less upside than the Big 4. What I wouldn't recommend is James Cook III at third overall, like my friend Aaron. In fact, Cook's lack of receiving profile keeps him out of my top-12 rankings entirely.
Round 2: After the star talents at RB get scooped up, my attention always goes to Brock Bowers in full-PPR re-draft formats. The drop-off at TE scoring after the top-eight this year is concerning, and I'm struggling to find breakout sleepers at the position. Bowers is uniquely set up for a 28% or higher target share while competing for looks with Jalen Nailor and Tre Tucker. That's the difference between my Round 2 Bowers ranking and my Round 3 Trey McBride ranking. In general, I don't see any obvious fades in Round 2. I'm most skeptical of Omarion Hampton's workload and Ashton Jeanty's touchdown upside early in Round 2, but their upside is obvious. The lone true mistake in this mock draft is Kyren Williams at 2.23, given how much Blake Corum threatened him last year (I drafted Corum later in this draft).

FAYETTEVILLE, Ga. (AP) — Actor and comedian Tiffany Haddish avoided additional jail time Tuesday when she pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor alcohol-related driving charge that stemmed from her 2022 arrest in Georgia after someone called 911 about a driver asleep at the wheel at a traffic light.
Other charges were dropped. After entering the plea by video, Haddish was placed on 12 months' probation and told to avoid drugs and alcohol and complete a substance abuse evaluation. She was credited for the brief time she spent in jail following her arrest.

Haddish's lawyers in May asked a judge to dismiss the case, arguing that waiting more than four years for the case to be resolved had caused personal and professional difficulties and violated her right to a speedy trial. Fayette County State Court Judge Jason Thompson rejected her arguments.

Later this month, we will be watching college football. The season kicks off when North Carolina and TCU square off in Ireland, while the first Big Ten in action will be USC when they host San Jose State. With the season only weeks away, we are seeing preseason polls released, award watchlists revealed, and predictions for this year's CFP participants being shared. Ohio State, Oregon, and Indiana are common favorites to make this year's playoff and are earning spots in the 12-team field in each of the last two seasons.

Is there another surprise in store for the CFP this season? It's obvious why P.J. Fleck and Minnesota are in favor of an expanded College Football Playoff. At 24 teams, the Golden Gophers would have likely made the CFP a few times since 2021, as Fleck and the Golden Gophers have won at least eight games four times in those five seasons, while also winning all five bowl games they have played in. This isn't even taking into account the 2019 season when Minnesota won 11 games and finished the season ranked 10th in the country.

Aug. 11—PULLMAN — It was a quick trip to Pullman for Ryan Leaf and his USA Network colleagues on Monday.
The less than 24 hour-trip provided little time to hit up some of Leaf's favorite eateries — that will come in the fall, Leaf said, when the crew finds itself in town for some of the industry-high 22 Pac-12 football games on its broadcast schedule.
However, the trip provided plenty of time for USA Sports' "A team" of Leaf, serving as the network's lead in-game ***** yst for Pac-12 football, play-by-play broadcaster Nate Gatter and sideline reporter Lauren Green to spend the day with the Washington State Cougars and ... visit Leaf's former residence.
There, his colleagues had a question for him.
"'How did you fit four football players in that small house?' We were college kids; we weren't making any money at the time, right? So we had to stay wherever we could stay," said Leaf, a three-year Cougar quarterback and No. 2 overall pick in the 1998 NFL draft by the San Diego Chargers. "I just needed a bed to sleep at night after working hard at the facility. Showed them those places and then campus — it's a special campus up on the hill."

Greg Norman's 1996 Masters and Jean Van De Velde's 1999 Open Championship collapse live long in the memory as examples of players throwing away their final day leads.
Jon Rahm was forced to withdraw from the Memorial Tournament after he tested positive for COVID, giving up his sizable lead. But never have we seen a player simply not show up for their tee time on Sunday while leading a tournament.
But that's nearly what happened to Bert Yancey at the 1966 Memphis Open Invitational, as he nearly lost a chance to win after sleeping in too long.

While J.K. Rowling became a household name as the author of the wildly popular "Harry Potter" books, she's spent the past several years making headlines for a very different reason. Rowling's views on the trans community have drawn widespread scrutiny, particularly since the COVID-19 era, with critics accusing her of transphobia. Several "Harry Potter" alumni have since spoken out against her comments, making their own positions on transgender rights clear. Now, another member of the franchise has done the same.
Bel Powley, who will play Petunia Dursley in the upcoming "Harry Potter" series coming to Max this winter, spoke with The Telegraph and said she was completely against the author's comments about transgender people.

Resmed's shares fell by around 7% after the company forecast a softer than expected fiscal year 2027 (FY27) outlook due to suspended ventilator sales, ongoing macro uncertainty and inflation across electronic components and freight.
Releasing its FY26 and Q4 FY26 results concurrently, the California-based sleep apnoea specialist achieved revenues of around $5.65bn in FY26, denoting a year-over-year (YoY) uptick of 10%. Meanwhile, the company reported Q4 revenues of $1.46bn, indicative of a 9% uptick YoY.
Resmed's CEO, Mick Farrell, highlighted that Q4's "strong" results reflected "continued momentum" for its global business, sustained product demand and "disciplined" execution of its ongoing strategy.
The company's Q4, however, was marred by a correction and subsequent Class 1 recall from the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in July for certain of its Astral 100 and Astral 150 ventilators.
Citing other factors including fuel and freight costs, and ongoing macro uncertainty, Resmed now expects FY27 revenue to land in the $5.75bn to $5.85bn range, coming in below ******* ysts' expectations of $5.92bn, according to data compiled by the London Stock Exchange (LSEG) group and seen by Reuters.

I've been writing about Procter & Gamble (NYSE: PG) for years, and my conviction has never been higher, because the company keeps doing the boring, hard things that compound over time: It protects its brands, invests in innovation, and quietly returns a lot of cash to shareholders even when the environment is rough.
Fiscal 2026 was not a blowout year for Procter & Gamble. Net sales grew 3%, organic sales rose 1%, and core earnings per share increased 1%. That's the kind of result many investors would shrug at. What matters to me is that those numbers landed right inside the company's guidance in a year that featured currency swings, higher energy and transportation costs, and uneven demand across regions.

The UFC on Saturday paid tribute to Allan Nascimento following his death last week.
The MMA community was shocked by the news of Nascimento's untimely death at 34 after an apparent heart attack in his sleep. The longtime member of Brazil's Chute Boxe Academy left behind a wife and two children.
In June, Nascimento had a four-fight winning streak snapped with a split decision loss to Mitch Raposo. Two of his four wins prior to that setback were bonus-winners. Nascimento was a regular training partner and close friend of teammates and fellow UFC fighters including ex-lightweight champion and BMF belt-holder Charles Oliveira, Elves Brener and others.

PFL Charlotte sent fans home sleepy on Friday night.
Making his sophomore appearance in the promotion, Charlotte's own Bryan Battle entered the cage to take on Dalton Rosta. The middleweight main event ended somewhat controversially, as the hometown middleweight Battle (13-3, 1 NC) came out the victor via a lackluster split decision (29-28, 28-29, 29-28).
Rosta (11-4) started the early goings of the bout with some strong leg kicks early, chopping at Battle's upright stance. That appeared to be a great recipe for success until it was entirely abandoned for a big Rosta body-lock takedown. Control didn't last for Rosta, as Battle defended well, pushing down Rosta's hands as he stood and walked around the cage wall. That was effectively where the rest of the round was spent until the 30-second mark. Some strikes were attempted between the two, leading to a failed late Battle double leg.
The second frame saw Battle get more aggressive, seeking long punches until Rosta worked his legs with kicks again. Those shots forced Battle to switch stance, and allowed Rosta to pursue another takedown. The remainder of the round was largely "highlighted" with more wall control exchanges and minimal strikes interjected.
Round 3 saw Battle tied up within the first minute to land some elbows and punches against the cage. Rosta started to land some punches at range once separated, and it was right back to failed takedown attempts and cage control in arguably the most forgettable fight of the year.

The Atlanta Falcons have a few big question marks on defense as they prepare for their preseason opener next week. With linebacker Jalon Walker officially out for the season due to a torn ACL, and James Pearce Jr. facing a possible suspension, Atlanta's pass rush may have trouble replicating last year's success.
The team has gone through its first seven training camp practices, but there are a few other starting spots on defense that remain unsettled. Billy Bowman Jr. is on the active PUP list as he works his way back from an Achilles injury, while Zach Harrison is on the active non-football injury list.
The Falcons are still working out their nickel rotation, and considering the severity of Bowman's injury, I could see the team being cautious with their projected starter going into Week 1. Even though I believe rookie Avieon Terrell will ultimately play on the outside, it wouldn't surprise me if he fills in for Bowman to start the season.
