LONDON, Oct 5 (Reuters) - Jeffrey Archer, the best-selling British novelist and former politician who was jailed for lying in a high-profile libel case, has died aged 86, his publisher HarperCollins said on Monday.
Archer sold over 300 million copies worldwide and was known for pacy thrillers like his 1976 debut "Not a Penny More, Not a Penny Less" and "Kane & Abel", with his final novel Adam and Eve due to be published this month.
He was also a prominent Conservative politician, who briefly served as a lawmaker before becoming a senior party official under prime minister Margaret Thatcher in the mid-1980s.
But Archer suffered a very public downfall when he was convicted of perjury and perverting the course of justice in 2001, being sentenced to four years' imprisonment.
Kate Elton, HarperCollins' UK CEO and Archer's editor, said in a statement: "We're all devastated to have lost a writer who has brought joy to generations of readers - and a true friend."

Rick Ross has been arrested in Miami on two counts of felony battery, including one by strangulation, which allegedly involve domestic violence.
The "Hustlin'" rapper, 50, was arrested around 6 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 1, on one charge of felony battery by strangulation and one charge of battery, both characterized as involving domestic violence, according to Miami-Dade County jail records viewed by USA TODAY. A bond hearing has been set for Oct. 1, according to county court records, and a stay-away order was entered as a pretrial condition.
Ross, born William Leonard Roberts II, is being held in Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center and is set to be arraigned on Oct. 22.

The House Bunny actress is pushing back against a court ruling that expanded the scope of Thomas' visitation rights with their daughter.
Willis filed an emergency request seeking to keep her ex's visits with daughter Louetta supervised. The dispute stemmed from when the court-assigned nanny for Louetta had to stop working and Thomas allegedly refused to accept a replacement. Willis alleged that Thomas at one point would not allow a court-ordered supervisor into his home.
The emergency request came after the court granted Willis primary physical custody of their daughter back in June. The ruling also planned for Thomas' monitored visits to transition to overnight unmonitored visits this month.
Willis has demanded the postponement of the unsupervised visits. According to court documents obtained by E! Talking with People in an interview published Wednesday, Philipps revealed that she learned about her grade 2 oligodendroglioma – a rare and slow-moving tumor – right as she booked her upcoming role on "Cupertino." She called the experience "the weirdest six months of my life."
"I'm grateful that I'm alive," she said.
The tumor was discovered after Philipps did a Prenuvo MRI scan. She did it despite her doctors saying it wasn't needed because she was young and did not have any symptoms but she felt the need to do it anyway.
The day before the scan was scheduled, Philipps' friend and former "Dawson's Creek" co-star James Van Der Beek lost his battle with cancer and the day after the scan she was set to meet with "Cupertino" creators Michelle and Robert King. She wondered if because of all that if she should just cancel the scan but a conversation with her ex-husband Marc Silverstein convinced her to stick it out.

Ahead of the 2018 premiere of the Roseanne spinoff The Conners, the actor acknowledged that, yes, he had shed half of the weight from his formerly 400-pound frame, but he saw no point in talking it up.
"It was basically just portion control, and 'I don't need it,'" The Righteous Gemstones star explained to AARP The Magazine in 2018 of cutting down on his food consumption. "I was just shoving everything into my mouth. But I don't want to be an example to anybody when the weight comes thundering back on—when I start eating Crisco out of the can with a spoon and a side of confectioner's sugar."

According to court documents obtained by Us Weekly, Paris, 28, has filed new legal papers demanding nearly $3 million be repaid to the estate, arguing that longtime executor John Branca improperly approved millions of dollars in unauthorized payments.
