Gold is the ******* et people buy when they have stopped believing in promises. Then most of them hand it to a bank in another country for safekeeping, which is itself a promise.
That arrangement is older than most of the world's central banks. The Bank of England has provided gold custody services to developing nations for decades, according to Reuters, and it usually works for the simple reason that ******* ody involved has any incentive to argue about it.
Custody is boring. It stays boring right up until two governments claim the same account.
Then the metal in the vault ceases to be a reserve ******* et and becomes a legal exhibit. It does not move, and it does not get sold.

On August 4, Willis Lease Finance Corporation (NASDAQ:WLFC) reported second-quarter results that pulled in two directions at once. The lessor of commercial aircraft engines grew its operating business at a healthy clip, yet net income fell by more than half, a split that makes this quarter harder to read than the headline suggests.
Income from operations climbed 20.2% to $34.0 million in the quarter ended June 30, 2026, and the engine underneath that number is lease rent revenue, which rose 6.7% to $77.1 million as the average size of Willis Lease's portfolio expanded from a year earlier. Over the first six months of 2026, lease rent revenue is up 10.4% to $154.5 million, a steadier pace than the quarterly figure alone implies.
The company's trading business added to that. Willis Lease booked a $32.0 million gain on the sale of leased equipment, up 16.2%, after selling 21 engines and other parts and equipment during the quarter, compared with 14 engines and two airframes a year earlier. That kind of turnover matters for a leasing company, since selling ****** ets at a gain confirms that engine values in the market are holding up.
The bigger story sits in how Willis Lease is expanding beyond its own balance sheet. ****** ets under management, which folds in the company's on-balance-sheet fleet along with its Willis Aviation Capital business, grew 21% year over year to $4.4 billion. CEO Austin C. Willis tied that growth directly to building out Willis Aviation Capital, and the fee income backs that up: management and advisory fees jumped 113.4% to $5.5 million in the quarter and 194.9% to $13.4 million over six months. Two new investment fund partnerships, one with Liberty Mutual Investments that began operating in March 2026 and one with Blackstone Credit & Insurance that started in April 2026, are the mechanics behind that shift toward managing other people's capital rather than only deploying its own.
Net income attributable to common shareholders fell 51.2% to $28.7 million, and diluted earnings per share dropped from $2.81 to $1.31. Some of that gap traces to a tough comparison rather than a weaker quarter, since the second quarter of 2025 included a $43.0 million gain from the sale of the BAML business that had no counterpart this year. Willis Lease also recognized a $5.4 million loss on debt extinguishment in the quarter, and $12.4 million over six months, a cost tied to refinancing that simply was not there in 2025.

The conflict between Iran and the United States has significantly affected global energy markets, disrupting petroleum shipments and raising fuel prices. After almost six months, the fighting has stopped most shipping via the Strait of Hormuz, a vital waterway that used to handle a fifth of the world's oil and natural gas.
This disruption has left consumers facing higher fuel costs and shortages, while creating a favorable environment for major oil producers. Chevron (CVX) , based in Houston, Texas, nearly quadrupled its profits in Q2 FY2026 as stronger energy prices supported its results.

Cathie Wood, chief of Ark Investment Management, often trims her biggest winners after sharp rallies.
This week, she's selling Tempus AI (TEM), taking some shares off the table after the healthcare AI stock surged nearly 30% in days and became the second-largest holding in her fund.
Last year, the flagship Ark Innovation ETF gained 35.49%, far outpacing the S&P 500's return of 17.88% in the same period. So far this year, Wood's flagship Ark Innovation ETF (ARKK) is up 10.16% as of Aug. 26, while the S&P 500 surged 12.13%, Yahoo Finance data show.
Wood gained a reputation after the Ark Innovation ETF delivered a 153% return in 2020. But her style also brings painful losses in bearish markets, as seen in 2022, when the Ark Innovation ETF tumbled more than 60%.
Those swings have weighed on Wood's long-term gains. As of Aug. 26, her Ark Innovation ETF has delivered a five-year annualized return of -6.21%, while the S&P 500 has an annualized return of 11.42% over the same period, according to data from Morningstar.

Aroundtown (ETR:AT1) reported stable first-half operating results for 2026, with rental growth offsetting the impact of ****** et sales, while higher financing costs reduced funds from operations. Management said the company remains on track to meet its full-year guidance and is continuing to recycle capital through disposals, property investments and share repurchases.
CEO Barak Bar-Hen said the macroeconomic and geopolitical backdrop remained mixed during the first half, but external volatility had not materially affected operations. He said the company's residential and hotel holdings, which together represent 53% of the portfolio, continued to benefit from favorable market conditions, while the office segment remained relatively stable despite subdued economic activity.

FFO I, a key recurring earnings measure for property companies, declined 4% to €144 million from €150 million, primarily due to higher financing expenses. FFO I per share was €0.13, compared with €0.14 in the first half of 2025, with the share buyback supporting the per-share outcome.

Amidst the AI infrastructure boom and strong earnings by technology giants, there seems to be lingering fear of a potential bubble. A 7% blended yield from holdings like O (5.2%) and VZ (5.9%) turns an $880,000 rollover into the targeted $5,200 monthly paycheck.
Conservative dividend stocks fall far short of the mark, as generating $62,400 annually at a 3.5% blended yield requires over $1.78 million, more than double the available portfolio.
Aggressive 8 to 14 percent yield strategies risk principal erosion, and distributions are commonly cut in recessions, leaving investors spending down ******* ets rather than living off their growth.

Sands Capital, an investment management company, released its "Sands Capital Technology Innovators Fund" Q2 2026 investor letter. A copy of the letter can be downloaded here. In the quarter, global equities rebounded sharply, with the MSCI ACWI posting its strongest quarterly gain since 2020, supported by broad market strength, easing geopolitical tensions, and continued enthusiasm for AI infrastructure. Information technology led the advance, with semiconductor and hardware companies accounting for most of the index's rise. The fund returned 26.9% (net) in the second quarter of 2026. The portfolio benefited from strong gains across memory, software infrastructure, cybersecurity, and other AI-related holdings, although its concentrated exposure to mega-cap chip designers and manufacturers weighed on relative performance as leadership broadened into CPUs, networking, and memory. Vertical software, internet, and financial holdings were modest detractors amid macro concerns and uncertainty over AI disruption. The fund remains focused on critical AI bottlenecks, including compute, memory, manufacturing, networking, and power, while retaining selected businesses that may use AI to strengthen their competitive positions. You can check the fund's top five holdings to learn more about its leading investment ideas for the year.
In its second-quarter 2026 investor letter, Sands Capital Technology Innovators Fund highlighted Klaviyo, Inc. (NYSE:KVYO). Klaviyo, Inc. (NYSE:KVYO), a cloud-based software-as-a-service marketing platform, detracted from the Fund's performance during the quarter. On August 7, 2026, Klaviyo, Inc. (NYSE:KVYO) closed at $16.62 per share. The one-month return of Klaviyo, Inc. (NYSE:KVYO) was -4.81%, and its shares lost 44.73% over the past 52 weeks. Klaviyo, Inc. (NYSE:KVYO) has a market capitalization of $4.73 billion.
Sands Capital Technology Innovators Fund stated the following regarding Klaviyo, Inc. (NYSE:KVYO) in its Q2 2026 investor letter:
"Klaviyo, Inc. (NYSE:KVYO) is an innovative provider of business-to-consumer (B2C) marketing technology. While the company delivered a headline beat and raise, expectations had moved higher into the print after a sharp rebound from April lows, and investors focused on a smaller revenue beat and a slightly lower second-quarter margin guide. The reaction also reflected broader pressure on software stocks, where investor sentiment remains fragile and near-term execution concerns have weighed on valuation multiples. In our view, the selloff was disproportionate to the underlying business performance. Klaviyo continues to deliver strong revenue growth, has limited exposure to seat-based revenue disruption, and should continue to expand margins over time. We maintain conviction, supported by Klaviyo's opportunity to extend share gains, expand internationally and outside of ecommerce, and cross-sell its text-messaging and customer service platforms."

Bechtel has taken over management of the site designated for Poland's first nuclear power plant, as the project shifts from design and planning to large-scale site preparation and construction.
The transition from Polskie Elektrownie Jądrowe (PEJ) to the US-based engineering company coincides with the start of earthworks at the Choczewo site, marking a key development in Poland's long-term energy strategy.
Bechtel will now oversee construction operations, coordinate contractors, supervise activity on site and ensure safety standards throughout the project.
According to the company, more than 400 people are currently involved in the initial site works, with about one-third of the workforce recruited locally in Poland. This number is expected to increase as preparations progress.
Bechtel project director Ed Gore said: "As we ****** ume responsibility for the site and begin the first permanent plant work, with the initial earthworks contract, we are focused on safely advancing the project, working closely with our Polish partners, and creating the platform for the next phase of work that will ultimately deliver a new source of reliable, carbon-free energy for Poland."

Unleash the AI agents, says Circle (CRCL) co-founder and CEO Jeremy Allaire.
"We think that there will eventually be billions of agents providing work and labor, and they'll be able to be orchestrated and integrated within a firm and across firm boundaries," Allaire said on Yahoo Finance's Opening Bid (see video above). "And this is an incredible time for entrepreneurs, for startups, for builders who are going to be able to tap into these agent labor markets to get things done and accelerate their own development and growth."
Allaire is aggressively using AI agents alongside human workers to help scale up its stablecoin business.
"AI and humans can interact directly through messaging environments like Slack, but also can interact between each other and communicate between each other directly," Allaire explained. "And so the thing that we're doing at Circle is we're asking all of our employees to be part of crafting this and building this. And this is, I think, incredibly exciting because we want our employees to have the superpowers of fleets of agents that they can use themselves to amplify their own capabilities. So this is an opportunity to multiply the capabilities of a firm and of humans themselves."
Circle just dropped a second quarter that was good enough to send the stock higher — but not so clean that the bulls can declare total victory. Hence, the stock is down 2% in Wednesday's trading.

Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) is seeking to position itself as the platform of choice for enterprise frontier AI adoption. It is part of the company's strategy of extending its cloud platform, Azure, beyond traditional infrastructure into the foundation for nmext-generation AI computing.
That was evident on July 21, as the software giant confirmed the expansion of its strategic partnership with Mistral. The collaboration is designed to give enterprises and regulated industries access to frontier AI models that they can deploy with greater control over security, governance, and compliance.
The expanded partnership reinforces Microsoft's ambition to become the trusted AI infrastructure provider for highly regulated industries, including financial services, healthcare, government, defense, energy, and manufacturing.
As part of this agreement, Microsoft will use Mistral's expanding European GPU infrastructure. Mistral, on the other hand, has added its AI models called Medium 3.5 and OCR 4 to Microsoft's app builder known as Foundry; while Microsoft Copilot Studio has brought on Medium 3.5 as well.

In the second quarter, the fund significantly outperformed both of its benchmarks, the Russell 2000 Mid Cap Growth Index and the Russell 2000 Index, returning 41.6% net of fees while averaging 88% net long exposure. YTD, the fund returned 16.5% net of fees. long portfolio significantly outperformed both benchmarks, while the short portfolio was mixed in the quarter. In addition, please check the Fund's top five holdings to know its best picks in 2026.
In its Q2 2026 investor letter, Deep Sail Capital Partners highlighted Credo Technology Group Holding Ltd (NASDAQ:CRDO) as a notable performance contributor. Credo Technology Group Holding Ltd (NASDAQ:CRDO) is a semiconductor company that provides high-speed connectivity solutions for optical and electrical Ethernet and PCIe applications. On July 21, 2026, Credo Technology Group Holding Ltd (NASDAQ:CRDO) closed at $223.87 per share. Credo Technology Group Holding Ltd (NASDAQ:CRDO) has a market capitalization of $41.75 billion.
Deep Sail Capital Partners stated the following regarding Credo Technology Group Holding Ltd (NASDAQ:CRDO) in its Q2 2026 investor update:
"There were a few large detractors at the end of the Q1 that have reversed in Q2 including our two biggest contributors in Q2 Credo Technology Group Holding Ltd (NASDAQ:CRDO) and Amplitech. Credo Technologies was down over 50% from its ATH by the end of March on the narrative that "Copper is dead" in data centers. That narrative has since changed in Q2 with the market beginning to realize that Credo's ZeroFlap optics platform is a real second leg for the company and the acquisition of Dust Photonics, an integrated circuit optics company, makes Credo a viable optics player. The company returned 191% in Q2. I continue to view the company favorably on a growth and valuation basis and it is one of the fund's largest holdings."

Following this initial capacity expansion, Tower said it expects its 2028 revenue to reach $3.6 billion and net profit to hit $1.2 billion, ‌compared with its previous expectations of $2.8 billion in revenue and $750 million in net profit.

Memory chips have become costly, owing to the high demand and limited supply of high-bandwidth memory (HBM). As a result, AI infrastructure deployments have also become more costly — that is if companies can get their hands on memory in the first place. Back in October 2025, Nvidia (NVDA) CEO Jensen Huang traveled to South Korea to meet with executives and secure memory supply. When the world first woke up to memory as a bottleneck, Nvidia already had a head start.
Still, while Huang did something similar in June of this year, he hasn't been able to make the company immune to the memory supply shock. AI server racks are becoming hard to build with limited memory, and the problem is now finally knocking on Nvidia's door.
