The next opponent further amplifies these concerns. Next week, the Vikings travel to Soldier Field to face the Chicago Bears, who beat the Carolina Panthers 59-37 on Sunday. Minnesota will need to tighten things up so that they aren't involved in a shootout they can't keep up in.
Kyler Murray's long-awaited Vikings debut was cut short when he left the game with a concussion suffered in the first quarter. Carson Wentz replaced him, completing 12/19 passes for 133 yards and three touchdowns, doing enough to keep the offense on schedule.
But Murray's availability is already in question for next week. On Monday, Adam Schefter reported that "it looks like" Wentz will start next Sunday against the Bears, as Murray remains in concussion protocol.

The Chicago Bears have signed running back D'Andre Swift to a three-year, $33.75 million contract extension, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.
Swift was entering the final year of a three-year, $24 million contract he signed with Chicago back in 2023. Now, the Bears' top running back is under contract through 2029.
Swift led a top-three rushing attack alongside Bears teammate Kyle Monangai last season, averaging over 140 yards per game. It was also a resurgence for Swift, who had a career year with 1,087 rushing yards (his second ever 1,000-yard season) and nine touchdowns in his first season with head coach Ben Johnson in Chicago.

The New York Giants have reached a two-year, $22 million contract extension with starting left guard Jon Runyan Jr., according a report from ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter.
That follows on the heels of the news that backup quarterback Jameis Winston has also signed an extension that will keep him with the team through the 2028 season.
Runyan's extension reportedly includes $21.5 million guaranteed, and is a higher average annual value than the three-year, $30 million contract Runyan signed with the Giants in 2024.
Runyan receiving an extension like this could be considered a shocking development.
The 29-year-old entered the spring in the final year of his contract. Many figured this would be his final season with the Giants, and that he would face a challenge for his starting left guard job.

On The Real Forno Show, Tyler Forness and Dave Stefano unpacked the leak that McCarthy's ankle is suddenly "week to week," Ben Goessling's report that McCarthy himself chose not to play Friday, the Max Brosmer and Dillon Bell cuts, waiver claims of Trevor Keegan and Nick Samac, and a practice squad still taking shape.
Forness opened with the elephant in the room: he expected Minnesota to move on from McCarthy before the deadline. Kyle McCord's dazzling preseason with the Green Bay Packers is ending with a trade to South Florida. According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, the Packers are trading the second-year quarterback to the Miami Dolphins in exchange for a sixth-round pick in the 2028 NFL draft.

Seattle Seahawks have officially signed former Detroit Lions first-round pick Terrion Arnold after agreeing to terms with the cornerback earlier this month.
Arnold's arrival was confirmed after the Seahawks made the move official on Saturday, giving the former Alabama standout an opportunity to earn a place in the team.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that Seattle had officially landed Arnold after reaching an agreement with him.
"Seattle Seahawks officially land former Lions first-round pick after agreeing to terms," Schefter wrote.

A 2025 draft pick is among the Ravens' cuts as they move toward a 53-man roster.
Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that the Ravens have waived cornerback Robert Longerbeam. The Ravens selected Longerbeam in the sixth round last year.
Longerbeam did not appear in any games during his rookie season and spent the year on injured reserve after suffering a knee injury in the summer. He had 11 tackles in three preseason games this summer.
The Ravens have until 6 p.m. ET on Sunday to set their initial 53-man roster. They cleared another roster spot on Saturday by trading defensive tackle C.J. Okoye to the Giants.

The future of Arizona Cardinals linebacker Josh Sweat has been discussed a lot this offseason. Trade rumors came up this week with the Cardinals in Green Bay for a joint practice and their preseason finale, and it happened to be the week that Sweat finally came off the PUP list. There is a connection with Packers defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon, who was the Cardinals' head coach when Sweat signed with them.
While rumors swirl, the message remains consistent from the team and from national outlets.
ESPN's Adam Schefter was on ESPN Milwaukee and said what has been said before.
"I try to deal in facts and realities, and all I can tell you is I know there have been teams that have reached out to them (the Cardinals), and I know they have been told they're not trading him. Now, could they change their stance down the line? Sure, but there have been teams that recently have reached out and they have told those teams, 'We are not trading him.'"
Sweat led the Cardinals with 12 sacks in 2025 and is really their only known pass-rushing threat.

As Week 1 nears, star cornerback Christian Gonzalez remains without a contract extension, and when speaking with reporters earlier this week, he did admit that he was frustrated by the way things have been going.
"I mean, it's frustrating, but I mean, I'm focused on the season," Gonzalez said on Tuesday. "I'm focused on here now and doing what I got to do, and I'm out here to compete and get better."
Head coach Mike Vrabel was asked about Gonzalez's comments, saying that he had no reaction to him being frustrated, but said he understands where he might be coming from.
"I have conversations with Christian, and I understand that this is probably something that's difficult," he said after the Patriots' preseason finale loss to the Browns. "I've never been in that position to this extent. Try to treat it with class, but he and I communicate, and our players are always free to feel how they feel. They just have to stay patient and just hope that we can work toward some kind of agreement."
Gonzalez is seeking a contract that will make him the highest-paid cornerback in the league, but a concerning update from ESPN's Adam Schefter on Thursday ahead of the preseason game detailed how the team hasn't offered him a deal that matches the $33 million annually Seattle is giving corner Devon Witherspoon.
