Yesterday, Ryan noted the Seattle Mariners had the chance to do something dumb. The option remains on the table tonight, particularly with Shohei Ohtani receiving a rest day. Against the resurgent Roki Sasaki and the Los Angeles Dodgers, ***** uming simplicity is simple-minded itself. But Bryan Woo is facing his greatest enemy, with nothing to do with Kyle Tucker or Max Muncy. The .304/.344/.479 line he's allowed on the road, with a .354 wOBA, is about equivalent to facing Muncy, Randy Arozarena, or Ketel Marte every single plate appearance. He should consider simply returning to magic fastballs instead of these miserable, mundane ones.
With only four games remaining between today and the trade deadline Monday, Seattle needs every bit of clarity they can find.

Football is back in Las Vegas. The Raiders officially began their journey to prepare for the 2026 season today with the start of training camp. It was a shortened practice -- 1.5 hours instead of two -- and it was a day to ease the players back into things. But there was still a few good plays to be that deserve some credit.
Here are my standouts for the Raiders from their first camp practice.
He went on a cross from right to left and laid out to make the grab with a defender in his hip pocket for the best catch of the day.
Read the play, shed a block and quickly tracked Ashton Jeanty to the right side to smother him at the line on a run.
Stuck right with Tre Tucker on a deep corner route and played it perfectly, turning to the outside as the ball arrived. He played it so well, he should have intercepted it, but was only able to knock it down. Still an impressive play.

Before practice, LaFleur and general manager Brian Gutekunst answered questions from the media, providing injury updates on specific players to start training camp:
Guard Aaron Banks: Gutekunst said Banks would come off the PUP list and practice in some capacity on Wednesday. The Packers placed Banks on the PUP list on Monday, but it appears his stay there will be a short one. Suggests he was dealing with a very minor issue.
Tight end Tucker Kraft: While he's starting training camp on the PUP list, Gutekunst believes Kraft will be participating "sooner rather than later." The Green Bay Packers announced four roster moves ahead of the start of training camp, including a swap of international exemption players.
The team released kicker Lucas Havrisik and edge rusher Dante Barnett and signed tight end Thomas Yassmin and kicker Lenny Krieg on Tuesday.

Many expected the Dodgers to be facing the Mariners in the World Series last season, but Seattle couldn't close the deal against the Blue Jays. Now, a year later, they're an inferior team, but one still fighting to enter the postseason. The M's will go with the veteran Luis Castillo for the opening game of this series; potentially good news for a Dodgers offense that scored more than four runs only once in its last five games, making the pitching do the heavy lifting in the road trip's last stop at Citi Field.
A symbol of stability for this young Mariners staff ever since his acquisition back at the deadline in 2022, Castillo has a 3-9 record this season, which is a direct indicator of career-low numbers almost across the board. Lately, though, Castillo has had problems keeping the ball in the yard, allowing five home runs in his last two outings, the losing pitcher of record in each of his three outings this month. Although that 4.85 ERA this season justifies a lousy record, it is also a byproduct of the Mariners' complete inability to provide him any run support, scoring just 19 runs in his last eight starts.
Back to the home runs and how they might come into play, the one Dodger to actually leave the yard against the Mets, Kyle Tucker, is also one of the two who has gone deep against Castillo before. The two home runs in Citi Field were encouraging, but even in this recent stretch, Tucker needs to show more to come close to the player the Dodgers thought they were getting. Hitting at home hasn't been an enjoyable task for Tucker with a .607 OPS at Dodger Stadium.
One player who has definitely enjoyed performing at Dodger Stadium, though, is Justin Wrobleski. The Dodgers' starter has managed to keep an ERA below 3.00 both at home and on the road, but his .461 OPS allowed in seven starts at home genuinely sounds made up. Monitoring how he does with an increased workload in the second half is a priority for the Dodgers.

The Green Bay Packers held tryouts for nine different players on Monday, just two days before Matt LaFleur's team opens training camp with a practice on Wednesday. Of the nine players, four were running backs and three were tight ends -- suggesting the Packers are looking for extra bodies at the two injury-affected positions to start camp. The idea is reinforced by the fact that tight ends Tucker Kraft and Luke Musgrave landed on the PUP list and running back Chris Brooks was placed on the non-football injury list on Monday. This time of year, teams will churn the bottom of the roster to make sure they have enough numbers to successfully operate camp practices.

On Thursday morning, right before the start of training camp, Tepper Sports & Entertainment rolled out a few exciting milestones for Bank of America Stadium. Not only did the organization solidify a fresh naming rights deal for the venue, but they also released new renderings of their upcoming renovations.
The announcement was celebrated in a "fireside chat" later that evening—and starred team owner David Tepper, Bank of America CEO Brian Moynihan and NFL commissioner Roger Goodell. And given the development of both the stadium and the city, Goodell hinted at Charlotte playing host to a future Super Bowl.
“I think that’s probably somewhere down the line in the future,” Goodell stated, via Forrest Tucker of WBTV. “As far as the Super Bowl is concerned, there is no question that if this city keeps growing the way that it is it’s certainty Super Bowl quality.”
Goodell also wouldn't rule out bringing the NFL draft to town.

On a scorching summer day in late July, Joplin played host to the Carroll (Iowa) Merchants to finish a recently postponed game and then play a regularly scheduled game Tuesday at Joe Becker Stadium.
The postponed contest was being resumed from June 11, when lightning cut things short in the top of the third inning in Joplin. The Jailbirds held a 3-0 lead to start things Tuesday.
They led 5-3 entering the home half of the seventh, and that's when they pulled away. Joplin added three runs in both the seventh and the eighth to go on and claim an 11-3 victory.
In the nightcap, Joplin fell behind 1-0 in the fourth inning after a solo home run by Carroll's Braylen Nystrom.

The Las Vegas Raiders' passing offense ranked 28th in the league last season, averaging 167.7 yards per game. It was a collective issue on offense, with the quarterbacks and offensive line also deserving blame for the lack of success. In a conversation with Marc Ratner, the UFC's Vice President of Regulatory Affairs, he mentioned being there for Sugar Ray Leonard and Thomas Hearns back in the 1980s when he headed up the Nevada Athletic Commission. He understood a big-fight feel, is what he was saying, looking around at the atmosphere Saturday at UFC 329.

Apparently, when I raise concerns about a hitter, they start to shove it in my face. Last week, I expressed concerns with Kyle Tucker. However, Tucker has been hitting .400 since July 1. Like usual, we're examining a hitter's skill and luck factors to figure out whether we should buy, sell or hold based on their current production. Sometimes, struggling hitters present a buy-low opportunity. Meanwhile, hitters could be riding hot, but the underlying metrics say be cautious or buy high if possible.
Caminero has been a rockstar this season, building upon his peak year in 2025. He has been walking more (12.5%), which would be a career high. That's partly because Caminero is being more patient, with a 29.1% chase rate and 60.1% zone swing rate. For context, Caminero's chase rate was three points lower and the zone swing rate dropped by five percentage points. That said, Caminero is using a more patient approach this year.
Caminero consistently pulls the ball into the air 24% of the time, up from 21.5% (2025). The power metrics have been off the charts, given Caminero's elite bat speed (79.9 mph), 88% fast swing rate (percentage of swings at 75 mph or higher) and an 8.9% barrel rate per plate appearance. Though Caminero's 28% home run per flyball rate (HR/F) seems high, hitters with elite power can maintain higher home run rates.
The projections point toward Caminero pushing toward 50 home runs with a .280 batting average, making him an elite four-category contributor. The New England Patriots approach the 2026 NFL season as a stronger team on paper, with talent equipped to contend for the Super Bowl.
According to ESPN’s Mike Clay, Aaron Schatz and Seth Walder, the Patriots’ starting lineups on offense and defense were collectively ranked No. 7 overall in the league, with the team’s secondary being its biggest strength.

Clyde Fuson is one of four Tennessee football players who have their jersey number retired by the program after being killed during World War II.
Fuson, a fullback for the Vols during the 1942 season, had his jersey number retired on Sept. 9, 2006 during Tennessee's, 31-30, victory over Air Force at Neyland Stadium.
He, Willis Tucker, Rudy Klarer and Bill Nowling were all killed in World War II and had their jersey numbers retired during the game against the Falcons.
Fuson (1923-44) served in the Army as part of the 335th Infantry Regiment and the 84th Infantry Division. A native of Middlesboro, Kentucky, he was killed during action in Germany.

Longtime film guru Greg Cosell recently appeared on the 'Ross Tucker Podcast' and offered some praise for Indianapolis Colts' head coach Shane Steichen.
Cosell notes how well Steichen was able to put Daniel Jones in a position to throw to his first read. Accomplishing that begins with the game plan that Steichen draws up.
“It's really interesting to me when you see a coach that's really good in the pass game and the way that he can present to the quarterback throwing to the primary read more often than not, and that's a function of schematics and putting together a pass game," Cosell said. "And obviously, as in any profession, some guys do it better than others."
Through 10 games last season, we saw the full effects of what the Steichen offense can be. Jones was among the most productive quarterbacks in football, while the offense was among the highest-scoring units during that first half of the season.
"Last year," Cosell added, "until Daniel Jones got hurt, we saw him being decisive as he's ever been, and that's a function of the concepts and how it's taught."
