The NFL is back, and with that comes exciting upsets like the Arizona Cardinals winning over the Los Angeles Chargers, as well as the New York Giants pulling out a rare win at home to open the season against the Dallas Cowboys. The Raiders also made a statement against the Miami Dolphins. Still, injuries are a reality in football as usual, so Let's take a look at some of the notable names who have been injured during Week One and who could show up on the report Wednesday.
Baltimore Ravens WR Zay Flowers (Hamstring) & Ja'Kobi Lane (Wrist)
Zay Flowers left the game against the Indianapolis Colts with an injury on Sunday (Hamstring). Before exiting, he caught five passes for 150 yards and a touchdown. NFL Network NFL insider Ian Rapoport has since reported that the injury may not be considered serious, and Flowers will undergo an MRI for further evaluation.
Rookie wide receiver Ja'Kobi Lane has reportedly suffered a broken wrist and could miss several weeks of the season.

As I write this on Sunday night, all but one Week 1 game is comfortably in the books, and as is always the case on opening weekend, we encountered a slew of surprises. Some promising, others concerning and many that may have affected our outlook on a player or an offense. We're all doing our best not to overreact to one Sunday (and one Wednesday and one Thursday), but some of these shifting perspectives are bound to have permanent ramifications.

With that in mind, I've compiled the (first) full weekly fantasy football stock report. These are the most notable risers and fallers heading into Week 2.
Ankle sprain, schmankle schprain (sorry, editors). Ashton Jeanty looked incredible on Sunday and had absolutely no limitations on his workload. He handled 23 carries and had six catches, totaling 147 yards while scoring twice through the air. He totaled 74 rushing yards after contact and scored both of his receiving touchdowns from the 13-yard line. Translation? The second-year RB's upside is arguably somewhere in the Christian McCaffrey stratosphere. The one caveat to all of this, of course, is that he did it against the Miami Dolphins. We'll see whether things change in Week 2 against the Chargers. But for now, Jeanty looks fully healthy and completely dominant, and anyone who got him at the "ankle sprain discount" is doing cartwheels.
At just 61% rostered on Yahoo, Jalen ******* er was closer to being a waiver-wire player than a fantasy stud. Not anymore. The third-year wideout led the Panthers with nine targets, eight catches, 138 receiving yards and two touchdowns, finishing as the WR1 overall on Sunday (29.8 fantasy points). He ran the second-most routes on the team (32), behind Tetairoa McMillan (36), and averaged 13.8 air yards per target and 4.31 yards per route run. He made a very strong opening argument to be a 1B to McMillan's 1A this season. And while all of Carolina's numbers were inflated by this barn-burner of a game with Chicago, ******* er had flashed late last year and looks like a legitimate third-year breakout candidate. He'll be among the most-added players on waivers this week (despite starting at 61%) and should be at least a FLEX consideration until further notice.

Philadelphia is among 16 NFL organizations expected to have scouts present when No. 1 Ohio State visits No. 4 Texas on Saturday night at Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium. The game will begin at 7:30 p.m. ET on ABC. His ability to pressure the quarterback and defend the run fits the athletic profile the Eagles have consistently valued along the defensive front.

For fullback DJ Herman, his reality exceeds anything he could have dreamed.
"I'm even more stoked than probably some of these other rookies because I'm going back to my hometown, where it all started, in Las Vegas," Herman said.

When the Miami Dolphins take the field on Sunday against the Las Vegas Raiders, a trio of first-year players have the potential to collectively make NFL history. Three of Miami's 13 selections from the 2026 NFL Draft were wide receivers Caleb Douglas, Chris Bell and Kevin Coleman Jr.
Douglas was Miami's first receiver taken during this past April's draft when the Dolphins used pick No. 75 on the Texas Tech product. Bell from Louisville was selected with pick No. 94, and Coleman Jr. with pick No. 177 out of Missouri.
While a rare occurrence in any team class, there have been several instances where three receivers were selected by one team in a single draft. In fact, the Dolphins last tripled up at the position in 1975 with Freddie Solomon, Morris Owens and Leonard Isabell.
What has never happened before in league history is three drafted receivers each recording a reception during Week 1 of their rookie season. Douglas, Bell and Coleman could be that lone trio come Sunday. There have been a few close hits, but in the dozen or so cases, Miami's young trio could break the ice.
For Miami in 1975, none of these three recorded a catch back in Week 1 when they lost to the Oakland Raiders. Back in 2014, the Jacksonville Jaguars had three wideouts haul in a catch during Week 1 as rookies, but only two were actual draft selections.

Why It Matters: In a game where most things went right for the 49ers, Kittle struggled with just two catches for 12 yards. Don't overreact. It was a testament to Kittle's dedication that he was even active in Week 1 after suffering a torn Achilles in January. He got some reps in and didn't suffer a setback. Now he'll get a few extra days to rest up before Week 2. You might want to continue holding him out until he has a breakthrough performance, but if you lack appealing alternatives you can justify rolling the dice on Kittle versus the Dolphins next weekend.

Based on Thursday night's smothering down under by the 49ers against the Rams, it appears that San Francisco's early-arrival approach worked better than the Rams' strategy of barnstorming.
But Week 1 is just part of the equation. The Rams were surely thinking about the recovery from the long trip, with the goal of being ready for the next game, against the Giants to cap Week 2.
And it doesn't get easy after that. The Rams travel to Denver for a Sunday night game before playing in Philadelphia the next Sunday afternoon. After that, it's another Monday night game — against the Bills.
The 49ers will have to fly home after fully acclimating to Australia and re-acclimating to America. The Dolphins come to town in Week 2, followed by visits from the Cardinals and Broncos. In Week 5, the 49ers make their annual visit to the Seahawks.
In many respects, Thursday night's game is only the beginning. Where both teams go from here after going home will show plenty.

Despite star quarterback Justin Herbert being unquestionably one of the best players in the league, he hasn't been able to lead the Chargers to the sort of playoff success that would typically come with a player of his caliber.
This offseason, Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh hired former Miami Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel as his new offensive coordinator, guaranteeing, if nothing else, that this would be an interesting season, with the Chargers pairing two of the league's most eccentric personalities.
Eccentric as they may be, it's hard to deny that Harbaugh and McDaniel are anything other than two of the sharpest minds in football, with Fox Sports ***** yst Colin Cowherd going as far as to say that Harbaugh has a case as the greatest football coach of all time.
"If you count college and pro, I would make an argument today, the greatest coach in the history of football is not Bill Belichick or Bill Walsh or Vince Lombardi. It's Jim Harbaugh. The greatest coach ever," Cowherd said. "Think about this, he's never failed. He's five for five. At San Diego, Stanford, San Francisco 49ers, Michigan and the Chargers, he's never failed."
Now, Harbaugh is making a similarly bold statement about his quarterback.

The second injury report for the Raiders 2026 season is out. And it looks a lot like the first one. That is to say it looks exactly the same.
The same thing is actually good news for the Raiders. No new injuries or setbacks. Ashton Jeanty was once again a full participant, putting him on track to start Sunday against the Dolphins.
Of course Brock Bowers is still out, but that was expected as he had surgery to repair his meniscus this week and will miss at least the season opener, and possibly more, recovering.
For the Dolphins, LB Ronnie Harrison and TE Will Kacmarek were still limited.
One more injury report to come on Friday where we will get the final status of the players for both teams.

It's been a tough week for Atlanta Falcons quarterback Tua Tagovailoa as he prepares to make his team debut this Sunday against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Tagovailoa was named the starting QB for Week 1, but head coach Kevin Stefanski wouldn't commit to him beyond the season opener.
While it's clear that Tagovailoa needs to play well to keep the job, those around the NFL have strong doubts about his ability to do so. Former Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin roasted Tua during his NBC broadcast debut on Wednesday evening.
"It's less about Aaron for me and it's more about the quarterback on the other side," Tomlin said of Tagovailoa. "His last visit to Pittsburgh didn't go well. I was in the stadium that day. They lost. He got benched. So I think it's going to be a good day for Mike McCarthy, Patrick Graham, and the Pittsburgh Steelers and company."
Tagovailoa went 22-for-28 for 253 yards, two touchdowns and one interception in a 28-15 loss in his last game against Pittsburgh. The Dolphins benched him the following week and his time in Miami came to an end shortly after.
Unfortunately, it gets worse for Tagovailoa. NBC insider Mike Florio reported that Tagovailoa is in danger of potentially being released once he is benched in Atlanta.

You've got to hand it to Miami: The Hurricanes' social media team nailed this post on X (formerly Twitter) after Florida State dealt with a power outage at Doak Campbell Stadium on Monday night that delayed the Seminoles' contest against SMU.
The game eventually started at 9:15 p.m. ET with some limits that included no PA announcer and no use of the scoreboard.
Miami's admins decided to have some fun with it with a simple tweet: "The lights are ON at our house," they wrote. "See YOU at Hard Rock [Stadium] on Thursday."

The Miami Dolphins have a tough season ahead of them, as they have one of the thinnest rosters in the league and will take on the second-hardest schedule of all 32 teams this year, based on 2025 records.
While Miami is projected to win somewhere between 3-5 games this year, depending on who you ask, there's still a chance for the team to surprise some people throughout Jeff Hafley's first season as head coach.
If the Dolphins want to find any success in 2026, these are four players that they can't afford to go down with injuries.
Achane, Miami's third-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, has been phenomenal in his three seasons with the Dolphins, rushing for 3,057 yards and 22 touchdowns on 5.6 yards per attempt while catching 172 passes for an additional 1,277 yards and 13 scores.
Heading into 2026, the 24-year-old will likely be the focal point of the offense, and after watching Jaylen Wright and Ollie Gordon II in the preseason, there's not much hope for the ground game if Achane is out.

According to Adam Coleman of The Athletic, a poll conducted among fans of all NFL teams, the Browns fanbase was overwhelmingly the least optimistic in the league. Unfortunately, they have good reason to have such little optimism.
Coleman shared that Browns fans handed out a brutal 2.7 percent optimism score, by far the lowest in the NFL. In 31st place, second-worst in the league, was the Miami Dolphins' fanbase, which at least had 11.1 percent optimism.

ESPN's Dan Graziano shared an updated projection for the Raiders' rookie, which reveals his potential NFL debut could come all the way in November, two months into the 2026 regular season.
"It stands to reason the Raiders want to see him start at some point this season, but they have been adamant that they don't want to play him until he's ready and they feel ready to put in position to succeed," Graziano writes. "Unless something happens to Cousins or the Raiders radically change their plans, don't expect to see Mendoza before November."

The New York Giants have changed Dennis Hickey's ******* le and parted ways with vice president of player engagement Usama Young, reports Ryan Dunleavy of the New York Post.
Hickey spent the past four seasons as ******* istant director of player personnel after joining the club in 2022. He is now listed as senior personnel executive. Dunleavy notes that the new role keeps Hickey out of the facility more on a day-to-day basis, though the veteran evaluator was spotted at training camp last week.
Hickey spent much of last season on the road scouting college games and prospects, consistent with the unofficial college-scouting leadership duties he carried after the Giants dismissed director of college scouting Chris Pettit in 2022.
That arrangement shifted in May, when New York hired former Houston Texans co-director of college scouting John Ritcher as director of college scouting. Ritcher is expected to take on many of the day-to-day responsibilities Hickey previously handled.
Hickey, a former Miami Dolphins general manager, first worked with Giants general manager Joe Schoen in Miami and later in Buffalo.

On D.J. Herman making the transition from linebacker to fullback, and making the team. "He's a smart football player and he was able to pick up the offense fairly quickly." Hafley said Herman is a physical player who can move laterally. "I give him a lot of credit. He worked really hard."
Regarding injuries, Hafley is required to file an injury report to the league on Wednesdays most weeks. The league injury report is then updated on Thursdays and Fridays. "If I don't have to reveal anything, I will wait till the deadline to reveal it."

The Miami Dolphins weren't impressed by their trio of quarterbacks battling to back up Malik Willis this preseason, which led the team to trade Quinn Ewers and cut both Cam Miller and Mark Gronowski over the weekend.
While these moves left Miami without a quarterback, they quickly pivoted and completed a trade with the Green Bay Packers to acquire Kyle McCord, who completed 65.7% of his passes for 446 yards and four touchdowns in the preseason.
Speaking with the media this week, Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst explained the decision to move on from the 23-year-old.
"He played so well during the preseason. We were contemplating, do we keep three? Do we try to get him to the practice squad, what's the likelihood of that? When somebody calls you and starts talking about a trade, the likelihood of getting him to the practice squad probably isn't strong," Gutekunst said. "It's always (tough), whenever you trade a player that you like and you think has an upside, but he wasn't going to be the No. 2 here most likely, and heading into next year, who knows? It's our job to find the next guy, and develop the next guy. That's what we do. That's what we'll do moving forward."
Instead of rolling with McCord as Jordan Love's backup, the Packers took the sixth-round pick they got in return and will have Tyrod Taylor step in if their starter goes down in 2026.

There are not many believers in the 2026 version of the Miami Dolphins in the national media. Ever since the hiring of new general manager Jon-Eric Sullivan and the subsequent mass exodus of talent across the roster, the talk has been more about Miami's dead cap situation and the possibility of the organization "earning" the number one overall pick in the 2027 NFL Draft than the team possibly winning actual football games on the field this upcoming season.
In Week One, Miami will travel to Las Vegas to take on the Raiders — a team that won three games in 2025 and wound up picking first in the 2026 NFL Draft themselves. Still, heading into that game, the Dolphins are considered the underdogs according to most sportsbooks. In fact, in most places, the Raiders are favored by at least three points, with some sites favoring them by four points or more.
Count the talking heads at NFL Network as those with the mindset that the Dolphins will be bad — like, really bad — in 2026. In fact, against the Raiders, not a single person has picked Miami to win that game, or even cover the spread.

Quinn Ewers went from looking like a potential answer in the Miami Dolphins to becoming one of the biggest quarterback mysteries of the Dolphins' offseason. The former Texas standout flashed enough during OTAs to make a starting push seem plausible. Then training camp arrived, and the picture changed fast.

Las Vegas Raiders coach Klint Kubiak revealed at a press conference on Wednesday it was an Achilles injury that led to Keyron Crawford being placed on season-ending injured reserve thus ending the edge rusher's rookie year before it even started.
Crawford suffered the injury during Las Vegas' final preseason game against the San Francisco 49ers on Aug. 27, ending a promising summer for the Raiders' third-round pick from this year's draft. The Auburn product had emerged as a developing pass-rush option for the team and was expected to contribute behind Maxx Crosby and Kwity Paye in 2026.
The season-ending designation represents a significant setback for both Crawford and the Raiders, who will enter the regular season without one of their top young players. Crawford's absence has Patrick Johnson in line to have a bigger role at edge rusher in Las Vegas next season.
Kubiak and his staff will now have to redistribute Crawford's defensive snaps while managing the rookie's long-term rehabilitation.
The Raiders will begin the regular season on Sept. 13 against the Miami Dolphins, with Crawford expected to spend the season recovering from the Achilles injury.

In what has been expected for months, Kirk Cousins will be the Las Vegas Raiders starting quarterback in Week 1 when they host the Miami Dolphins at Allegiant Stadium.
New Las Vegas coach Klint Kubiak made the announcement Wednesday that Cousins and not rookie, No. 1 overall pick, Fernando Mendoza, will lead the team to start the season.
This has long been the expectation. Both Kubiak and Las Vegas general manager John Spytek have said, in a perfect world, they wouldn't rush a rookie quarterback onto the field. Raiders' part owner Tom Brady reportedly also was in favor of not of playing Mendoza early.
Cousins, 38, made the decision easy as he had a strong training camp and preseason. The 15th year veteran has played for Kubiak in the past and should give the Raiders a chance to win while Mendoza continues to prepare to start his career.
The Mendoza era is coming, but first, it will be Cousins under center for the Silver and Black.

The Las Vegas Raiders have named veteran Kirk Cousins their starting quarterback for their Week 1 matchup with the Miami Dolphins, head coach Klint Kubiak announced on Wednesday morning.
The decision is something that has long been expected, even after the Raiders selected Mendoza with the No. 1 overall pick in the NFL Draft back in April.
Barring a late change, Cousins will start his first game with the franchise since his exit with the Atlanta Falcons last season. The Raiders signed Cousins to a one-year deal earlier this year with the expectation that he would open the season in the starting role and serve as a bit of a mentor to Mendoza while he adjusts to the league. Cousins went 5-3 as a starter last season with the Atlanta Falcons, and threw for 1,721 yards with 10 touchdowns and five interceptions.
Cousins was declared the starting quarterback at the start of training camp, too. Head coach Klint Kubiak had plenty of praise for Cousins, who is now with his fourth team in the league, back in July.
