Meta Platforms (META) stock is riding a near 20% rally this month with shares boosted by optimism about its Muse AI agent app and, more recently, custom chips. The next test for Meta's rally comes next week.
Meta is hosting its annual Connect developer conference starting Wednesday. Chief Executive Mark Zuckerberg typically uses the event to preview the company's slate of application updates and new hardware. Last year's event focused on Meta's Ray-Ban Display smart glasses.
But Meta has been plenty busy ahead of the big conference at its Menlo Park, Calif., headquarters. Its recent rally was kick-started by the release of its Muse AI agent application earlier this month. The application quickly climbed toward the top of the download charts.
Earlier this week, Meta launched a new subscription service called Meta One. Subscribers get access to bonus features across Instagram, Facebook and WhatsApp, starting at $2.99 per month. Meta also detailed to Bloomberg how it plans to deploy custom AI computing chips in it data centers starting next year.

Alex Golesh crossed off another milestone last week when Auburn defeated Southern Miss, 43-8, for the first home win of his tenure. This week, he could reach another when the Tigers host Florida for the Tigers' first SEC game of his era.
Golesh stood at the podium Monday to preview the matchup with the Gators and to close the book on Auburn's Week 2 win. One topic Golesh discussed Monday was his relationship with Florida head coach Jon Sumrall. Like Golesh, Sumrall took the leap to the SEC from the American Athletic Conference after leading Tulane to an AAC championship and the College Football Playoff.
The pair have a lot in common and have bonded over their time as coaches. However, Golesh says that his friendship with Sumrall is taking a brief pause this week.
"He said we were friends? Not this week, we're not," Golesh said Monday (via ABC 33/40). "I got a ton of respect for Jon (Sumrall). We were both ****** istants in this league at the same time, and he did a great job at Troy, a high-end job at Troy. Did a high-end job at Tulane. I got a ton of respect for how he works; I got a ton of respect for who he is. I think he does it the right way. He competes like crazy. I got a lot of respect for him. This week? Don't care."

The 2026-27 season is quickly approaching for the Philadelphia 76ers as they have their eyes on ending a long ***** le drought after the big additions made in the offseason. The Sixers will field one of the more talented rosters in the league and will look to get to the mountaintop in 2027.
It's now time to look ahead to the new season and time to break down each position for the Sixers in an effort to preview what the season might look like. Sixers Wire will look at the centers now and take a look at what the Sixers bring to the table at the position:
Sure, the Sixers have some shiny new players in Jaylen Brown and LeBron James, but all of this still comes down to the health of Joel Embiid. The big fella is still a dominant player when he can get on the floor as evidenced by his 26.9 points, 7.7 rebounds, and 3.9 ***** ists he averaged in 38 games in the 2025-26 season. Embiid being able to return early from an appendectomy completely changed that Round 1 series with Boston when the Sixers rallied from a 3-1 deficit. He averaged 28.0 points, 9.0 rebounds, and 7.0 ***** ists in Round 1 against the Celtics as he spurred the rally for Philadelphia.
When Embiid is right, there aren't many players in the league who can slow him down. He has lost a step defensively as a result of the injuries and surgeries he's had to undergo has robbed him of a lot of speed and athleticism, but Embiid is so smart and able to find new ways to be effective on defense. He is still one of the top players in the game and should be treated as such. If he's right and healthy, the Sixers take an even bigger leap forward.
The Sixers will rely on third-year big man Adem Bona as they did in the 2025-26 season. He averaged 4.8 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 1.2 blocks as he was able to establish himself in coach Nick Nurse's rotation. He will have competition, though, as the Sixers did add bouncy Ariel Hukporti early in free agency. Also, in his third season, Hukporti will look to find an opportunity in Philadelphia.

To help us preview this matchup, Glenn Erby, the managing editor of Ravens Wire, answered a handful of our questions to provide some insights into this Baltimore team.
Ravens Wire: Minter has been organized, direct, and consistent since taking over. He brings energy without manufacturing it, and players have responded to his detailed but collaborative approach. He has also allowed his coordinators to establish their identities while remaining heavily involved with the defense. The biggest takeaway is that he appears comfortable leading the entire operation rather than simply functioning as a defensive-minded head coach. The regular season will present different challenges, but the transition from John Harbaugh has been smoother than many expected.
Ravens Wire: Baltimore's defensive front should be its biggest strength. The Ravens added Trey Hendrickson to a group that could regain Nnamdi Madubuike while also featuring Calais Campbell, Travis Jones, and second-round pick Zion Young. Roquan Smith and Kyle Hamilton give the defense elite talent behind that front. If Madubuike remains healthy, Baltimore should be able to stop the run without sacrificing its ability to pressure quarterbacks.
Ravens Wire: The interior offensive line is the primary concern. Baltimore will start Jovaughn Gwyn at center and rookie first-round pick Vega Ioane at right guard. Gwyn has never started an NFL game, while Ioane will make his regular-season debut against DeForest Buckner and Grover Stewart. The Ravens are also installing Declan Doyle's offense, so communication and protection errors could occur early. Lamar Jackson and Derrick Henry can cover plenty of weaknesses, but Indianapolis has the personnel to test that inexperienced interior.

Carter Jensen hit a pair of doubles, drove in a run, and scored a pair to lead the Royals to their second straight victory and first win against Boston since August 6 of last year. The final score was 3-2 in favor of Kansas City.
It was kind of a weird start for Seth Lugo. I attempted to do a reverse jinx on him with the game preview, and he ultimately allowed only two runs in five innings. That's good enough for now. However, looking toward the future, allowing 7 hits and 2 walks, even while striking out 7, in 5 innings is not a recipe for sustained success.
He only threw seven of his pitches tonight and, perhaps most notably, eschewed the slow curve entirely. The curveball and four-seamer were both much more effective than they have been of late. Perhaps this is a sign he's on the rebound.
For a while it seemed like the jinx on Sonny Gray might work, too. Gray came into the game with a 1.74 ERA against the Royals, the best among any pitchers with at least 10 starts against the team. Jensen's first double led off the game. He advanced to third on a groundout from Bobby Witt Jr. and scored on a Salvador Perez single when Gray inexplicably threw Salvy a sinker in instead of the usual breaking stuff away.
In the third inning, it seemed like the Royals might just go ahead and knock out Gray then and there. Isaac Collins led off with an automatic double at 103.2 MPH down the right field line that hopped over the short fence near the pole. Carter followed up by smashing one at 102.6 off the monster in left to trade places with Collins. Bobby flew out to center at 103.3 to advance Carter to third and Vinnie Pasquantino hit one at 102.4 to give the Royals their final run. Sadly, Salvy grounded into a double play to end the inning and that was the last time KC would score.

The Atlanta Braves went up to Philadelphia and got a split in a four-game series against the Phillies last week and now they'll have to hold serve against this same Philadelphia team a week later if they want to ensure that their hold on the NL East lead is as sturdy as possible as the calendar begins to wind down. The NFL star, who married Taylor Swift over the summer in a ceremony at Madison Square Garden, opened up more about the high-profile nuptials during a preview of his upcoming ESPN interview with Chris Berman.
Swift and Kelce tied the knot at the iconic New York City venue on July 3. The star-studded wedding featured a bevy of A-list guests, including Ed Sheeran, Gigi Hadid and Bradley Cooper, Tom Cruise, Adam Sandler and Zoë Kravitz.

After five rounds of high-octane tennis, we have an all-American showdown in the semifinals, as the No. 1 American men's player Ben Shelton takes on a three-time US Open semifinalist in Frances Tiafoe.
The excitement for this match in New York is so high that, despite playing their quarterfinal matches a day earlier than the other half of the draw, the tournament has scheduled their match for the primetime night session slot, with a fully packed crowd expected for a match that, before even a ball is hit, has already secured an American player in the final this year.
And we here at LWOT will be bringing you an in-depth preview of what to expect in one of the biggest matches for American men's tennis this decade.
Despite making it this far in the tournament, it has been far from an easy road to the semifinals for both players. Frances Tiafoe has had to battle through two five-set matches, the second of which came in the quarterfinals against Alex Michelsen, in which Tiafoe had to come back from two sets to love. But in between all this, the American has played some inspired tennis again this tournament, the highlight of which was the efficient straight-sets win over the 2021 US Open champion Daniil Medvedev.

Here's what Steve had to say about tomorrow's game.
It's year two for K.C. Keeler at Temple. He went 5-7 in his first year in Philadelphia. What do you make of his fit at Temple and what are expectations for the Owls the rest of this season?
K.C. Keeler has already proven to be an excellent fit at Temple. His résumé speaks for itself, and he is a proven winner even with a lack of resources. He won FCS national championships at both Delaware and Sam Houston, but his 10-win season at Sam Houston in year two of FBS membership might be his magnum opus. Additionally, he's a great fit since he has publicly declared this will be his final job, which promises Temple players and staffers a sense of stability.
Keeler walked into Philadelphia last year and immediately turned Temple into a 5-win team, after the Owls hadn't won more than three games in the entire 2020s. Temple fell one point short of both service academies, and flipping either result would have pushed the program into the postseason.
Temple played incredibly sound football in Keeler's first season, only losing four turnovers the entire year. The Owls should have lofty expectations considering they didn't lose a single starter to the transfer portal. However, they lack experience at quarterback and replacing Evan Simon is no easy task, which could present some challenges offensively. I would label bowl eligibility as a reasonable and attainable goal for this 2026 team.

2. There's a quarterback controversy right now, including former Penn Stater Jaxon Smolik. Where does that stand now and what do you expect from the offense against Penn State?

Sep. 10—To preview Washington State's next game, a road test against Big 12 foe Kansas State, The Spokesman-Review conferred with K-State beat writer Ryan Gilbert, who covers the Wildcats for GoPowercat.
Here is our Q&A.
1. How did K-State's offensive line look against Nicholls, and do the injuries to John Pastore and George Fitzpatrick look to hamper the Cats as much as it might seem?
The offensive line checked all the boxes it could on Saturday. There were a lot of questions surrounding this group entering the season, but game No. 1 was a success. That being said, Nicholls is just not a good football team, so it's tough to get too excited over that performance in the trenches. K-State simply had the bigger, more physically dominant dudes at the point of contact. Anything other than a promising night would have been a concern for the offensive line.
George Fitzpatrick not being able to give it a go didn't help matters, but Collin Klein & Co. certainly couldn't have been caught off guard when they learned he had to be sidelined this season. His health condition from last offseason just lingered and lingered, so it's not like this just happened out of nowhere. There was ample time to create a backup plan. John Pastore, though, was supposed to be not just a starter but a true star at left tackle. His injury, which will sideline him for the season, happened about a month before the season, and then Tanner Morley also had to miss some time late in camp, so everything kind of just compounded at once.

Hello! I'm back this year with BGN, as always, and I'll have two review articles and two preview articles every week. If you missed the first preview of the year, make sure you check it out here.
The same Week 1 warning applies here. Washington's new offensive coordinator, David Blough, has never called an NFL offense, so there is no real film that tells us exactly what Vic Fangio will be preparing for. We can make educated guesses based on Blough's background and what Blough has said publicly, but anyone claiming to know precisely what this offense will look like is guessing.
It's really hard for me not to spend the whole article comparing Sean Mannion and David Blough, but the similarities are so obvious. Blough only stopped playing quarterback recently and spent the past two seasons as Washington's ******* istant quarterbacks coach under Kingsbury. Before that, his playing career put him around a wide range of offensive coaches, including Ben Johnson in Detroit and Kevin O'Connell in Minnesota. Washington has also been open about wanting to move away from some of the philosophical elements of Kingsbury's offense, particularly by becoming more balanced and using more under-center play action. Sound familiar?!
Blough's challenge is deciding how much to change. Daniels has already spent two seasons getting comfortable in Kingsbury's system, particularly operating from shotgun, using tempo, and using his legs a lot. Daniels looks like someone suited to a shotgun, spread-heavy RPO offense.
Throwing all of that away would make very little sense. At the same time, Washington didn't change coordinators because it wanted the exact same offense, so I would expect the eventual structure to keep some of the shotgun and RPO elements Daniels already excels at while adding more motion, heavier personnel, under-center formations, and a more connected run and play-action game. Once again… sound familiar?!

The biggest game of the week is set to take place in Salisbury, as Wi-Hi hosts Stephen Decatur in a battle of two teams who were the Bayside's best teams last year, and will hope to replicate that again in 2026. That game is set to kick off early at 4 p.m. and will be followed by games like Parkside visiting Easton, Snow Hill traveling to Nandua, Bennett on the road against Cambridge, and more great Bayside Conference football showdowns.

Ben Shelton and Frances Tiafoe will go head-to-head for a place in the US Open final.
And the winner of the all-American battle at Arthur Ashe Stadium will reach the final of the US Open for the very first time.
Shelton defeated Carlos Alcaraz to make the final four, while Tiafoe battled past Alex Michelsen, with both matches going to a fifth set.
The highly anticipated meeting between Shelton and Tiafoe has now been previewed by former ATP players Sam Querrey, Steve Johnson and John Isner.
Speaking on the Nothing Major Show, Isner asked the question: "I imagine Ben's a pretty big favorite. Would you agree with that?"

As the regular season approaches, Last Word will preview each team's current outlook and stories to watch for the upcoming year. We'll also do our best to project how things will go for each team throughout the campaign. Today, we're previewing the 2026-27 Minnesota Wild.
There's been plenty of chatter about the 2026-27 Minnesota Wild. The main offseason rabble has been whether or not Quinn Hughes will sign an extension. Minnesota general manager Bill Guerin was able to weaponize the salary cap **** e since the buyouts of Zach Parise and Ryan Suter were greatly reduced. Guerin has been taking care of players like Brock Faber and Kirill Kaprizov.
However, the Hughes question hangs over the franchise's head like a cloud. The Wild rolled the dice to get the high-flying defender from the Vancouver Canucks. However, it would be a disaster if the Olympic Gold Medal winner doesn't stay beyond this season. The Wild have only made the Western Conference Final once in the franchise's history. Minnesota knows the pressure is on to at least get back there.
Guerin fulfulled his promise of making the team into a Stanley Cup contender. He managed to give Kaprizov the deal that would keep the dynamic forward in the fold. However, getting Hughes proved to be a masterstroke. It cemented the Wild as a contender despite being in one of the toughest divisions in hockey.
Minnesota looked the part of a contender by finishing 10th in scoring, fourth in defence, and seventh in points. The Wild even broke some of their bad postseason luck by getting past the Dallas Stars. However, the same old Wild came back in the second round in a loss to the Colorado Avalanche. The Wild were exposed as not having as much depth as the Avs and not having enough team speed. Minnesota has made plenty of progress, but the team still has a long way to go.

The Arizona Cardinals begin their 2026 regular season this weekend against the Los Angeles Chargers. They have 13 other opponents this season. One is the Philadelphia Eagles, whom they will face at home in Week 13, their final game before the bye week.
In the final opponent preview show for the podcast, I was joined by Eagles Wire lead writer Glenn Erby to talk about the Eagles' 2025 season, offseason and expectations for the 2026 season.

At WWE Sunday Night's Main Event 2026, Lil Yachty stepped into a WWE ring for the first time as a wrestler in defense of his friend Trick Williams.
At SummerSlam earlier this month, Corbin shocked the world when he defeated Williams for the WWE United States Championship just weeks after his return. The following week, Corbin retained that ******* le against Williams on SmackDown when he blasted Williams with the ******* le belt in classic heel fashion.
With Williams going 0-2 against Corbin but never being pinned cleanly, Corbin was forced to face Williams' manager Lil Yachty at WWE Sunday Night's Main Event. Yachty's goal? Last five minutes in order to get Williams another ******* le match immediately afterward.

Hamburger SV head coach Merlin Polzin offered no excuses after his heavily rebuilt side suffered a horrendous 0-5 home defeat to Mainz 05 on Sunday afternoon.
Hamburg entered their first home Bundesliga fixture of the season looking to respond to their 2-0 opening-day defeat away at Borussia Dortmund. Instead, the afternoon developed into one of the club's worst top-flight home performances in decades.
Sunday's defeat also leaves Polzin's side without either a point or a goal after two league fixtures.
"The result speaks for itself," Polzin remarked in his opening press-conference statement. "It was a totally **** afternoon for us. It was a thoroughly deserved loss. There's no need to sugarcoat anything or attempt to explain anything so soon after the game when the emotions are still running high."
The scale of the defeat proved particularly striking given how aggressively Hamburg strengthened their squad during the closing stages of the summer transfer window. The club entered the season with several unresolved personnel questions, many of which were examined in GGFN's 2026/27 tactical preview of Hamburg.

With former Bearcats and NFL stars Jason and Travis Kelce, Connor Barwin and Brent Celek on hand, the University of Cincinnati football squad extended its home-opening winning streak to 25 games on Sept. 5, bashing Boston College 34-15.
The game was a slow grind with UC holding leads of 3-0 after one quarter and 10-0 at halftime. It was 24-0 late in the third quarter before Boston College scored and a late touchdown pass with just over a minute to go cut the Eagles' final deficit to 19.
In the UC vs. Boston College game preview, The Enquirer predicted 200-plus running yards.
Outcome: The Bearcats ran for 254 yards, with fifth-year player Gi'Bran Payne, who ran for 108. The last UC player to surpass 100 yards on the ground was Tawee Walker last Nov. 15 against Arizona.
We also said the Bearcats would pass for more than 200 yards.

The New England Patriots are still trying to find a resolution to Christian Gonzalez's contract situation before the NFL season begins, and head coach Mike Vrabel is making it clear that he wants to help get a deal done.
However, Vrabel also understands that there is a line he cannot cross when it comes to negotiations between the Patriots and their star cornerback. With the regular season opener against the Seattle Seahawks just days away, the situation has become increasingly important for New England.
