India's growing injury crisis has raised fresh questions over the functioning of the BCCI's Centre of Excellence (CoE), with former cricketer Mohammad Kaif expressing surprise that the world's richest cricket board has struggled to recruit some of the world's leading medical and rehabilitation professionals.

The latest setback came with Sai Sudharsan being ruled out of India's upcoming two-Test series against Sri Lanka due to a toe injury. He joins Jasprit ****** rah, Harshit Rana, Nitish ****** ar Reddy and Washington Sundar on the list of players unavailable for the Sri Lanka series because of injuries.

The repeated injury setbacks have frustrated the BCCI, particularly as several players have had to make trips to the CoE in Bengaluru for rehabilitation. The issue also came into focus when BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia travelled to Bengaluru to discuss the situation with CoE head VVS Laxman.
Laxman, during a press conference, revealed that the BCCI has been facing difficulties in finding the right personnel for the CoE. According to him, the board had approached several candidates, but some potential appointments fell through at the final stage.

The revelation has now drawn a strong reaction from Kaif, who questioned how the BCCI, despite its enormous financial resources, has been unable to bring some of the best medical professionals and physiotherapists into its setup.

"There was a statement from VVS Laxman that they had approached several people. Those things were being worked out, but at the last minute, they turned it down. So, what I am trying to say is that whatever is happening needs to be fixed. I am not an expert on this. The experts appointed by the BCCI need to do their job. But I am telling you that it is having a significant impact," Kaif said on his YouTube channel.
Kaif admitted that he was particularly surprised by the situation given the financial strength of the BCCI and the attractiveness of working with Indian cricket.

"Now, I am surprised because so many people are eager to work with the BCCI. We have so much money that if we call someone, they will come running. They do, don't they? Just look at the players. Players leave their countries' matches to come and play in the IPL. They come, don't they?" Kaif said.

He further questioned why the BCCI had not been able to finalise contracts with leading physiotherapists and medical experts.

"So, I was a little surprised that we haven't been able to work things out with some of the world's best physiotherapists and medical professionals and get them to work with the BCCI. I am surprised because we pay so much. We offer such good contracts. If someone comes and works here, they are bound to make a lot of money. They get paid very well," he added.

The timing of the concerns is significant, with India heading into a two-Test series against Sri Lanka without several key players. The series begins in Galle on August 15.

• "At best, your (gift to) ... Stephanie White is over all of the noise around the WNBA lately.
The Indiana Fever head coach went off in a roughly two-minute address to reporters ahead of their game against the New York Liberty on Tuesday night in Indianapolis. White erupted while both defending the call made after a hard foul on Indiana's Sophie Cunningham and lighting up those who have taken over the discourse in the league in recent weeks.
"The hate, the fear-mongering, the divisiveness, the stuff that is trying to hijack our league will not win," White said while pounding the table. "It won't win. We are united. We are connected. We will not be divided.

Zoe Saldaña is growing frustrated with political questions, mainly because she doesn't find them being asked in equal measure across the industry. The Oscar winner said during a conversation at the Locarno Film Festival that she often participates in Q&As because she is eager to talk about the craft of acting. However, Saldaña keeps finding herself fielding political questions instead.
"One thing that's incredibly limiting, and frustrating, is when I'm the only person of color or the only woman on stage, and that happens quite a lot for women and for people of color. And I wait for my turn to be asked a question about my craft, and I'm asked the political question," Saldaña said, giving the following example: "What do you think we need to do to make films more inclusive?"

When the New England Patriots took the Gillette Stadium fields on Tuesday for their joint session with the Indianapolis Colts, Christian Gonzalez was nowhere to be seen. The star cornerback did not make a late entry either; for the first time this training camp, he missed practice.
Gonzalez's absence comes in light of his ongoing contract negotiation with the Patriots. Naturally, it raised questions whether or not the two were related.
According to a report by Greg Bedard of the Boston Sports Journal, they were not. Gonzalez apparently sat out the session due to a "minor injury sustained at the end of Monday's practice."
The 24-year-old appeared to hurt his ankle during that particular session, trying to defend a touchdown pass from Drake Maye to Romeo Doubs. He did not receive any medical attention on the field and left the session with no obvious limitation.
Speculation nonetheless ran high on Tuesday, especially with Gonzalez seemingly throwing oil on the fire on social media later during the day:

Kyle Newman of the Denver Post is reporting that the Colorado Rockies have recalled outfielder Zac Veen (No. 9 PuRP) and will designate for ***** ignment infielder Edouard Julien.
This comes on the heels of the news from yesterday that Connor Norby was recalled after Tyler Freeman went to the IL with lumbar pain.
Veen, who has won the Pacific Coast League's "Player of the Week" honors for two consecutive weeks has been on an absolute tear. The 2020 first-round draft pick is currently slashing .327/.402/.635 and leads the Pacific Coast League in both slugging percentage and OPS (1.037) in 100 games with just under 400 at-bats.
As for Julien, in January, the Rockies acquired him and pitcher Pierson Ohl from the Minnesota Twins for cash considerations. The Rockies hoped Julien could bring versatility and a lefty bat to their lineup. However, he has struggled during his time in Colorado.
Currently, he is slashing .208/.322/.292 (65 wRC+). There have also been questions about his fielding where he has -7 DRS at second base.

We're still just under two years out from tip-off, but we do finally have a name for Cleveland's WNBA expansion franchise. The Cleveland Sirens will be the newest professional sports team coming to Cleveland.
The new WNBA team decided to forge its own path with this branding. Instead of using the name of Cleveland's previous teams, the Rockers, or tying their identity closely to the NBA team, as we've seen with the Minnesota Lynx, Washington Mystics, etc., the Sirens are going ahead with something completely new and original. Their all blue logo and word marks are distinct in a city with a storied professional sports history.
Distinct and unique doesn't always mean great. While I personally like the direction that the team is heading, I would understand if you thought otherwise. Casting aside tradition — even one that wasn't necessarily great — is always a risky move. It would've been easier to just resurrect the Rockers' name and just update the logo and uniform.
It also would've been just as easy to tie the team to the Cavs — similar to what we saw with the G League team, the Cleveland Charge. There is some value in tying all these related professional basketball teams together. Especially one that will be playing in the same arena as the Cavs.

The most recent start from Cincinnati Reds ace Chase Burns was a uniquely poor one. He yielded 5 ER and 6 H with a trio of walks in just 5.1 IP, exiting earlier than anyone would have liked in an eventual 8-2 loss to the Washington Nationals that may just have been the final nail in the coffin for the 2026 Reds club.
As you can see from the fine folks at FanGraphs, the average fastball velocities in his starts has also begun to decline over the course of the season, something that's not at all uncommon for a young pitcher who's being tasked with throwing more innings this year than he ever has before.
To date, Burns has fired 124.0 IP for the Reds, already topping the 109.1 IP he threw across all levels of professional ball last year. That in itself eclipsed the 100.0 IP mark he logged in his 2024 season with Wake Forest at the collegiate level, as Burns – who was oft-used as a reliever at Tennessee prior to transferring to Wake for his senior year – simply hasn't ever had a huge workload put on his prized right arm.
The Reds, obviously, hope that changes over the course of the long-term contract Burns signed earlier this season. But in a year where they're mired in last place and effectively out of a playoff spot, just how far should the Reds let him go in 2026?

The Minnesota Vikings named Kyler Murray their starting quarterback on Tuesday in the least-surprising news of the NFL offseason. Despite the Vikings branding this as a "quarterback battle," it was always Murray's job — and that's become apparent in recent days during training camp. Now it's caused unnecessary drama, as some onlookers at training camp believe that not only was McCarthy neck-and-neck in the battle, but that in recent days he out-performed the No. 1 overall pick who Minnesota signed this offseason.
There is no doubt that McCarthy was bad last year across his 10 games, and that Murray's veteran experience made him the clear-cut answer for the job, but it was covered in unnecessary consternation. The Vikings knew that Murray would be their starter when they signed him, and if there wasn't some sort of promise that he would be the starter, then Murray would have signed elsewhere. However, the Minnesota front office wanted to ease the eventual benching of McCarthy with the charade that this was really anyone's job, when it wasn't.
The attempt to pretend this was an open battle was predicated on the Vikings' belief that Murray would win the job easily, but that was complicated by McCarthy playing quite well in camp up to this point, especially recently where it seemed like he was more comfortable in the new-look Vikings offense, especially on deep routes. It also raises questions of the team's timing, and whether or not the decision to announce Murray as the starter right now was an effort to stop the bleeding after a weekend where Murray struggled, while McCarthy took strides ahead in the battle.
If there's one thing about this Vikings team it's that they routinely have messaging issues, almost as if its left and right hands struggle to be in concert. This was the case during Minnesota's so-called "competitive rebuild," which saw the Vikings attempt to rebuild its roster and be a successful playoff team in the process — not really achieving either, to the point where the franchise has been locked in draft purgatory without a good way to take the step forward. This was further accentuated this offseason with Justin Jefferson, who reportedly courted Murray to come and play with him, being forced to make public statements about how it didn't matter who the QB was, and that he didn't have a preference in the battle.
There's always subterfuge in the NFL when it comes to making decisions in-season, but far too often the Vikings shroud their offseason plans in a cloak-and-dagger way that makes it feel as if the team itself doesn't really have a plan. A throated, enthusiastic approach to Murray's arrival, and naming him the starter from Day 1 would have felt better than what's taken place. As for how McCarthy is handling all this: Look no further than Adam Schefter's tweet, which might as well have come directly from McCarthy's agent.

Liverpool's summer is taking on a familiar shape, ambition in the market, patience at the negotiating table, and a fanbase watching the calendar as much as the pitch. Credit to The Athletic, whose latest DealSheet offers a useful snapshot of where matters stand at Anfield, and the picture is one of selective movement rather than frenzy.
The headline development is clear enough. "Liverpool have completed a deal to bring in Ronald Araujo on loan for the season in the first move of the summer to tighten up the defence." In a window that has carried an urgent undertone around squad balance, that feels significant. Araujo arrives with stature, pedigree and versatility, and Liverpool have moved to address an area that had begun to look vulnerable.

FIRST ON FOX: A Senate Republican leading the charge on investigating Dr. Anthony Fauci's old government phone told Fox News Digital that the revelation that the former COVID-czar was concerned that vaccines could cause miscarriages was "just the tip of the iceberg."

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump announced Sunday that his new White House counsel will be Will Scharf, the staff secretary who as the Trump-appointed head of the National Capital Planning Commission helped secure approval for the $400 million ballroom project.
Trump said that, beginning Sept. 1, Scharf will be replacing David Warrington, who will be leaving the administration to join the private sector. Trump noted that Scharf previously served as a federal prosecutor and represented him in a number of cases, including at the Supreme Court.
"Will is Tough, Strong, and Smart! He also loves our Country, and respects the Law," Trump wrote on Truth Social. "Will Scharf will do a great job as White House Counsel!"
The shakeup in the White House counsel's office comes at a critical juncture — just months ahead of the midterm elections, where Trump's Republican Party will be fighting to hold on to control of Congress. Democrats have vowed to pursue investigations into Trump and his administration if they are successful in November.
The White House counsel's job is to advise on legal and policy questions related to the presidency. The office is the primary White House contact for the Justice Department, and it handles presidential pardons, works on judicial appointments and reviews legislation. The office also helps investigate and manage congressional investigations into the administration and lawsuits against the president when he is sued in his official capacity.

The Dallas Mavericks star was spotted with an unidentified woman at a Rebelution concert during the Orange County Fair on August 8. Video obtained by TMZ showed the pair watching the reggae group together from a private box.
The sighting comes less than four months after Megan Thee Stallion publicly announced the end of her relationship with Thompson. Their breakup followed a highly visible romance that began publicly during the summer of 2025.

US President Donald Trump is heading to Ohio to watch high school students compete in the Patriot Games, a sporting event set up by his administration to celebrate the 250th anniversary of America's founding.
Two teenagers were picked from every US state to compete in the games, which are taking place in the city of Geneva, about 50 miles (80km) north of Cleveland.
Some military bases, Native American tribes and US territories are also participating.
To qualify, competitors were required to answer questions about American patriotism. The winners, one boy and one girl between the ages of 14 to 17, will each receive $125,000 (£93,000) in scholarship money.
On Tuesday, Trump will attend the final day of the games, to see the top 32 athletes compete in the final round.

Liverpool FC supporters group Spirit of Shankly (SoS) has written a letter to the club to seek 'further information and greater clarity' on prospective investment in LFC from a consortium involving Jeff Bezos.

The club kick-off their campaign with a home match against Luton Town at the SCL on Saturday, having been hard at work over the summer making improvements to the ground.
Some sections of the Reading support have grown frustrated with Couhig over the summer and some previous transfer windows after a slow start in the market.
Questions have also been raised about his future and whether his stay at the club might be for the short-term.

In the last couple of weeks, there has been increasing speculation surrounding the future of Real Madrid forward Endrick. The 20-year-old is facing a significant lack of minutes during the 2026-27 season after the club confirmed the signings of Carlos Espi, which has led to reports that he could be set for another loan exit.
Endrick has been identified as someone that can operate on the right wing and through the middle for Real Madrid, but with Diomande and Espi respectively having been brought in to address those positions, it has led to questions as to whether the Brazil international will be counted on by head coach Jose Mourinho.
Several clubs have registered their interest in Endrick on the back of this, with the latest being Aston Villa. However, they will not be getting him, with Diario AS reporting that Real Madrid have decided against letting their number 9 depart the club before the end of the summer transfer window.
The decision on Endrick has been made after consultation with Mourinho, who believes the youngster has a significant role in his squad for the upcoming campaign. This has been to the delight of president Florentino Perez, who holds Endrick in high regard, as was shown by the decision to pay €60m for him in December 2022.
Endrick's priority has always been to remain at Real Madrid, as he believes in himself to made an impact. However, he himself does not rule out leaving at some stage if it becomes clear that he is not going to see minutes under Mourinho, but for now, he is happy to stay and fight for his place in the attacking line-up.

In a Monday evening interview, Siegel suggested the former White House chief medical adviser was at times too "dogmatic" and slow to adapt as the science evolved.
