Adjustable-rate mortgages (ARMs) can allow you to land a lower interest rate in today's high-rate environment. However, ARMs aren't without risk, and they're only right for certain borrowers in certain situations. Find out how ARMs work and whether this type of home loan is right for you.
ARMs behave like two different mortgages rolled into one loan agreement. It begins with a fixed-rate term, usually between five and 10 years. During this period, your interest rate and payment will remain the same.
After that, it converts to a variable-rate loan with an interest rate that can change (up or down) every six months or annually. This means your monthly mortgage payment also changes.
To fully understand how ARMs work, you need to understand what their formulas mean. For example, let's examine the "5/1" ARM:

A financing mechanism that gained traction among private equity firms in recent years has cooled off in 2026. Fading optimism about the exit market could, however, spark a turnaround in the final months of the year.
Dividend recapitalizations, in which companies borrow money to pay dividends to shareholders, are down roughly 40% year-over-year, according to data from PitchBook-LCD.
Recaps financed through the US broadly syndicated loan market, by some distance the largest capital source for these loans, totaled $28.69 billion in the year through Sept. 2, down 39% from $47.4 billion over the same period in 2025.
There were $72.2 billion of dividend recaps in full-year 2025—the second-highest annual volume recorded.
The average size of a dividend recap in 2026 also compressed, to $541 million from $668 million a year earlier.

Amazon and Nvidia just got a lot closer. The two companies announced Wednesday an expanded partnership that includes a deal to add another 2 million Nvidia GPU chips to Amazon's data centers.
These GPUs, which are designed to handle the heavy compute demands of training and running AI models, include Nvidia Blackwell Ultra, Rubin, and Rubin Ultra GPUs. The chips will head to Amazon Web Services' data centers in 2027 and 2028.
The announcement, made during Nvidia's quarterly earnings call, comes just five months after Amazon agreed to deploy more than 1 million Nvidia GPUs across AWS infrastructure starting this year. Nvidia said in a statement that since then, "demand has exceeded those expectations."
Neither company shared financial terms. It's unclear what the exact return will be for Nvidia. But considering GPU unit costs, the deal is worth tens of billions of dollars.
The announcement is notable not just because of its size and the speed in which it grew, but also because it extends beyond Amazon buying more Nvidia chips. And it's happening even as Amazon invests in its own potentially competing AI chips.

Stellantis just got another North America headache.
Trump's Canada tariff threat dragged down Ford and GM too, but Stellantis looks especially exposed because its Canadian factory footprint is already complicated, underused and politically sensitive.
President Donald Trump threatened to raise tariffs on Canadian cars, trucks, auto parts and steel to 50% from January 1, 2027, after US-Canada trade talks collapsed.
The market did not wait for the fine print. Stellantis shares fell roughly 3% in Paris and U.S.-linked trading, while Ford and General Motors also dropped as investors priced in higher costs for North American supply chains. US steelmakers moved the other way, with Cleveland-Cliffs, Nucor and Steel Dynamics rallying on the prospect that tariffs on Canadian steel could support domestic pricing.

When you find a great dividend stock, there are really not many reasons to ever sell it. Thatʻs because great dividend stocks play an essential role in a portfolio.
A quality dividend stock pays you reliable, consistent income every quarter, no matter if the market is high or low. If the market is low, thatʻs when strong dividend stocks shine because that income can be reinvested in the stock to boost total return when you most need it.

Some shoe firms have already received their tariff refunds, others are still waiting to get theirs. So far, the shoppers who paid higher prices seem to be out in the cold.
The tariff refunds are for reciprocal duties imposed last year under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act that shoe firms paid, but were ruled illegal this past February by the U.S. Supreme Court. Some companies absorbed a portion of the added costs from the duties, while others raised prices. For example, Nike in May 2025 said it was doing a "surgical" price increase for a select group of items, averaging between $2 and $10. And Swoosh's sneaker competitor Adidas said last October that new products to the U.S. featuring innovative technologies would see higher prices.

Verizon Communications (NYSE:VZ) jumped recently after posting earnings. Profit beat estimates and rose year over year, but revenue missed estimates.
The stock still trades at a discount to peers, under 9.5 times forward earnings versus roughly 13x for the group. The question is whether that discount is a gift or a warning sign.
Verizon just posted a strong quarter for postpaid phone net additions in five years, beating ****** yst expectations by a wide margin. Broadband adds stayed strong across fixed wireless and fiber. Adjusted EBITDA hit a record, up 7.2%, pushing margins to an all-time high above 40%.
Management raised full-year guidance for the second straight quarter. EPS growth is now guided to 6-7%, and free cash flow growth guidance got ****** ped to 9-10% from 7% previously. That's a meaningful acceleration from the low single-digit free cash flow growth Verizon posted the last few years.
The dividend looks safe. Free cash flow payout ratio sits under half of what the company generates, and the roughly 6% yield comes with a multi-year streak of annual hikes. Buybacks add another layer of shareholder return: the company is already ahead of pace for the year, and management just raised the full-year target further.

Varun Sharma, founder and CEO of NEUVIOR, reflects on the necessitates of the recently forged India-UK pharma trade deal.
The India UK Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement became operational on 15 July. That is good news for businesses in both countries. It is also the moment to stop treating tariff reduction as a synonym for market access, especially in pharmaceuticals, medical technology and digital health.
Medicines and devices do not move from factory to patient through one gate. They move through at least five. A product must qualify for the tariff preference under the rules of origin. It must have the right approval in the destination market. Its manufacturing and quality evidence must withstand inspection. It must meet the terms of any public procurement. Its people, systems and data must be able to operate lawfully across borders.
The agreement changes some of these gates. It does not collapse them.
The Indian schedule places 198 of 226 pharmaceutical tariff lines in immediate staging, four already at zero, with the rest phased over five or ten years. Medical technology receives a more mixed pattern of phased elimination and partial reduction. These preferences matter, but only for products that satisfy the product specific origin rule.

Bitcoin, the largest digital currency by market capitalization, is showing signs. It surpassed the psychologically important $65,000 level and is higher by nearly 3% for the week ending July 21.
It remains to be seen if months of cryptocurrency frustration are nearing an end. The same is true regarding a bitcoin bottom. However, with the CLARITY Act close to passing and bullish price action of late, crypto investors may have credible reasons to get back in the game. Thanks to the NEOS Bitcoin High Income ETF (BTCI), market participants can earn compensation while waiting for the bitcoin dust to settle.
The $1.12 billion BTCI turns two years old in October and has rapidly become royalty in the bitcoin income ETF ***** e. The actively managed BTCI writes or sells options on a pair of well-known spot bitcoin ETFs, ensuring a solid liquidity profile. It's a smart income move, as highlighted by a 30-day SEC yield 2.13% — a percentage previously unthinkable with crypto ETFs.
BTCI's status as an income-generating bitcoin avenue is potentially attractive at a time when some market participants are apprehensive about what comes next for the dominant digital currency.
