MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (WCBD) – Organizers of the Cooper River Bridge Run have unveiled the official design for the race's 50th anniversary event, set for spring 2027.
The winning artwork, created by Chuck Jones, was revealed Wednesday during a special event at Alhambra Hall in Mount Pleasant featuring Storm Team 2 Chief Meteorologist Rob Fowler.
Selected after months of submissions, public voting and judging, Jones' design commemorates the milestone anniversary by featuring the Arthur Ravenel Jr. Bridge alongside the two former Cooper River spans, the John P. Grace Memorial Bridge and the Silas N. Pearman Bridge.
Race organizers said the design will be featured on official race merchandise and promotional materials, including T-shirts, posters and billboards leading up to the event.
The 50th annual Cooper River Bridge Run is scheduled for April 3, 2027.

Luke Evans is paying tribute to Tim Curry by sharing an emotional letter he sent to the late "Clue" actor just weeks before his death at age 80.
Evans made his Broadway debut as cross-dressing mad scientist Dr. Frank-N-Furter in "The Rocky Horror Show," for which he received a Tony Award nomination, earlier this year. Curry originated the role when the musical premiered in London in 1973, and later reprised it on the New York stage and in the 1975 film adaptation, "The Rocky Horror Picture Show," co-starring Susan Sarandon.
Shortly after Curry's death was announced Wednesday, Evans posted the text of his letter on Instagram, describing the actor as "a bright fierce flame" who was "an inspiration to me and so many more people."

Gallery Dept. started through Thomas' desire for the vintage pieces in his parents' closet and digging through thrift stores before it was a widespread phenomenon with a full resell economy. He began altering what he found, most famously deconstructing Carhartt workwear pants into his now-signature Flair jeans, adding panels cut from scraps of other pairs and exposing the faded contrast under a double knee. "I've always made clothes for myself, even now," he says. "I do collections of just literally stuff I want to wear." The items have become a piece of the modern hip-hip uniform. Major artists and athletes like Drake, Migos, and LeBron James have all supported the brand.

Robert Irwin is celebrating some big news from his former Dancing With the Stars partner, Witney Carson.

Nearly two years after retiring from fighting in professional mixed martial arts, Jack Shore's name is back on a combat sports poster.
The former UFC fighter from Abertillery remained in the sport as a coach but now turns his hand to fight promotion.
The first iteration of Shore's new Stand and Bang venture is on Saturday, 22 August when 23 bouts will take place inside a 20-foot boxing ring.
It will feature only striking with no takedowns or grappling at Ebbw Vale Leisure Centre.
Shore is hoping to make the show a success with the Welsh MMA scene at "an all-time high".

The artists behind a large sand drawing on Skegness beach say they hope it will raise awareness of the town's role in the Tour of Britain men's cycle race.
Work on the artwork, which recreated a tour poster, began at 04:00 BST on Thursday.
Jamie Wardley, creative director of Sand In Your Eye, said: "It took about three-and-a-half hours for them to make it, which is pretty fast to make such a big picture. To see somebody making something is quite special."
Stage one of the event will start and end in Lincoln. The second stage, on Thursday 3 September, will start in Boston and finish in Skegness.
Wardley said work on the sand art was due to start on Thursday afternoon, but the timing was changed due to the weather forecast.

A little over a month ago, Georgia Tech defensive lineman Tawfiq Thomas' made a viral social media post about his former team.
On Monday, the former Colorado Buffaloes transfer justified his remarks. Thomas is dressed in Georgia Tech game day gear from head to toe. Hat, jersey, uniform pants and cleats. However, there were additional elements that take this from a reasonable post to regrettable trolling.
The most noticeable is that Thomas is standing in front of a framed poster that shows the final score and stats from Georgia Tech's 27-20 victory over Colorado last season. This included is a countdown clock to the Week 1 match-up between the Buffs and Yellow Jackets. He tagged CU Football's official account and even made it Shedeur Sanders specific by including audio of Sanders' "Perfect Timing" song as well as corresponding lyrics.
The ploy by Thomas likely did not have the result he was hoping for. It might have been a friendly jab, but it was anything but effective. Perhaps during his time in Boulder, Thomas failed to grasp the built-in Sanders fanbase. Established Buffaloes fans might be less likely to engage a player who is no longer with the program. Sanders fans, on the other hand, are all too happy to check receipts and push back.
Following Thomas' original tweet from July 20, the critics showed up in droves. Some of the comments were of the 'act like a professional' variety, while others were much more direct and insulting. Many of the keyboard warriors that patrol social media in an effort to protect Deion Sanders and the Buffs wasted no time responding. Colorado alum Matt McChesney also addressed the post on his Zero2Sixty podcast.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Civil rights advocates on Monday said they asked the U.S. Supreme Court to review a Texas law requiring public schools to display the Ten Commandments, teeing up a case that could set a new national standard for the limits of state-sponsored religious expression in classrooms.
Over two dozen Texas families represented by the American Civil Liberties Union and other groups petitioned the nation's highest court to overturn a split decision in April by the conservative-leaning 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals. The New Orleans-based appeals court's 9-8 ruling upheld the Texas law, which requires public school classrooms to display a state-selected version of the Ten Commandments drawn from the King James Bible.
In their Supreme Court brief, the families' attorneys argue that the law violates basic First Amendment principles governing the separation of church and state.
"The question of whether a state may impose scripture on impressionable, captive-audience children — for nearly every hour of every school day, for up to (13) years — implicates the most fundamental guarantees of the First Amendment and our Nation's highest ideals," they wrote.
The 5th Circuit reversed a lower federal court ruling that had blocked approximately a dozen Texas school districts from putting up the posters. Republican Gov. Greg Abbott signed the law, which took effect last September.

It's hard to believe four years had passed since I last saw Yard Act perform at the Black Cat. The post-punk Leeds outfit came out of the Covid-era with a banger of a debut album. It was clear that they had something to say.
The odd thing is that, in their third record, You're Gonna Need a Little Music, James Smith has a little bit of a different message: "I've done absolutely nothing since I last saw you four years ago / Ah, how you doing, yeah, I'm still chipping away / But I've got absolutely nothing / Absolutely nothing new to say"
This is the sort of imposter syndrome Yard Act tackle in their most recent project. The quartet are exploring new styles and adopting different references from disco house to Blur and Muse to create a far more varied sound.
That all creates for a deeper, richer backlog of tracks to dig into when they hit the stage. And, four years on from first seeing them, they returned to Black Cat with as much ferocity as ever.

Greg Hurst did what he does every time he arrived for a post-match interview. The New Mexico United forward sprang up from the bench inside the visitor's dugout at Isotopes Park and strolled over alone, ready to answer a variety of questions.
At least, that's what initially happened before it was agreed that Saturday was better for Hurst to do this round with a bit of extra support. In a manner of speaking, anyway.
So, off he went and returned with "Little Greg" in tow.
It was made from what looked to be black and yellow posterboard. It had Hurst's last name painted on the back. It was more than a foot high and attached to some kind of pole so it could be held up and waived around.
A young fan made it and presented it to Hurst after the match. The fan certainly picked a good time to bring some custom artwork.

49ers running back Christian McCaffrey missed practice again Tuesday. Offensive coordinator Klay Kubiak attributed McCaffrey's absence on Monday to tightness, with nothing more specific.
The concern is McCaffrey had calf tightness during the 2024 training camp that carried into the season. He played only four games with what was later announced as Achilles tendinitis and a separate injury to his posterior collateral ligament.
Coach Kyle Shanahan, though, said he is not concerned by McCaffrey's current setback.
"No," Shanahan said, via David Bonilla of 49erswebzone.com. "My concern would be him toughing through tightness, like a lot of people do, and then hurting something bad, and then pulling something, which then, it could be a month. That would be our concern, so once we hear him talking a certain way, Christian's a guy who needs to get prepared for Week 1. But also, we're pretty confident in what he's done before. We're confident in what he's done these two weeks, and we just want to make sure we don't make it something to be concerned about."
McCaffrey, 30, led the league with 413 touches last year. He finished the season with 311 carries for 1,202 yards with 10 touchdowns and caught 102 passes for 924 yards with seven touchdowns. He had 37 more touches in two postseason games, rushing 26 times for 83 yards, along with 11 catches for 105 yards with two scores.

Pitching in front of a revved up, eager audience, Skubal was downright mediocre in L.A.'s 6-5 victory over the Royals.
His fastball command was, by his cathedral standards, scattershot. He struggled to locate the four-seamer consistently at and just above the top rail, right where the world-beating southpaw makes his bread. Earlier this week, The Beagle Freedom Project shared a video spotlighting Mia's journey after being rescued in 2022. The charity, which rescued Mamma Mia from a breeding facility alongside her puppies, shared a throwback clip of the pup nursing a litter of puppies before her adoption.

For 114 games this season, Ozzie Albies has been in the starting lineup. Sometimes he's hit third, sometimes he's hit sixth, he had a long stretch hitting second… but he's been in there.
Tonight, for the first time in 2026, Albies won't be in there. He gives way to Mauricio Dubon, who will slide over to the keystone and bat fifth.

Taylor Trammell of the Houston Astros hit the ball far and did the things a player might do after a home run.
He ran around the bases, stuck out a "No. 1" sign as he headed toward home plate, touched his heart and looked skyward.
There was just one problem, though. It wasn't a home run. Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Myles Straw had made a leaping catch at the wall.
Trammell eventually realized that his big dinger was actually a flyout. The camera followed him into the dugout where he threw what looked like a towel in disgust. The Astros eventually lost on Monday, 3-1.
One poster on X who shared the TV feed of Trammell's goof called it "the most embarrassing moment of his life."

It's already been two days, but it appears at least some Milwaukee Brewers fans still have a severe case of the Tarik Skubal blues.
Though Brewers general manager Matt Arnold added to his stable of power arms by acquiring starting pitcher Dustin May and relievers Jojo Romero and Antonio Sanzatela, many so-called armchair experts that float in and out of cyberspace appear unimpressed.
For weeks Brewers nation has patiently listened to baseball insiders project that the Brewers would be aggressive and use the depth of their top tier minor-league system to make a "going-for-it" move that would challenge the Los Angeles Dodgers in the National League in October.
But the Dodgers landed Skubal for the price of three promising minor leaguers and the Brewers pivoted to adding three-hard-throwing veterans to their roster. But many social media posters didn't change direction with them.
Perhaps the memory of an underwhelming deadline day last season still lingers. The Brewers had the league's best record when they traded for pitchers Shelby Miller and Jordan Montgomery and outfielder Brandon Lockridge.

If I find it hard to quibble, it could be because at the FanDuel Sportsbook the Sox have the 5th best odds, -$1500, to win the whole dang thing! To be fair to the Rays — which doesn't feel natural, but whatever — they're also at -$1500. Both teams are ahead of the Phillies at +1900, the Cubs at +2200 and the Angels and Mets at a cool +100000 each. (Perhaps you can predict baseball?) Anyhow, the Yankees are the only team with shorter odds in the AL than the Sox and the Rays at +600. But they stink, so all is fine.
However this season ends, it's reignited a spark around here that hasn't been lit since 2021 and hasn't roared in nearly 10 years. The Blue Jays were two outs away from winning it all last year and changing the whole labor narrative, some say, tho ultimately I don't think by much. Meaning the Sox have a shot. While I love that the Dodgers (a preposterous +160) do their thing, they're up against a emboldened, whiny club of failsons who've had it out for them from the word go and this is something of a last stand. The only other thing that can bring the Dodgers down, seemingly, is the Sox, who just swept them in LA. They're now Sox likely to make the playoffs (-950) and are closing in on the division (Rays -110, Yankees +155) at +430. The sportsbooks plainly recognize, respect and reflect Bres's ambition. The reward is ours.

Baseball players have a decent amount of down time during a game, and that can lead to some wild conversations and conspiracies.
But when it comes to baseball conspiracies, Cubs star Pete Crow-Armstrong came in strong with an objectively preposterous theory.
In a recent appearance on Let's Be Honest with Kristin Cavallari, Crow-Armstrong was asked to share an unpopular opinion. And he said — somewhat jokingly — that he didn't think that Babe Ruth actually existed. And he went on to explain that he mainly didn't think this one person could have been a god of the sport given how the game has evolved.
The podcast he was referencing was a 2024 interview with Mariners pitcher Tayler Saucedo. Basically, Saucedo claimed that since he's only seen one video of Ruth, the baseball legend probably never existed. Mind you that Babe Ruth was probably the most photographed person in America at that time. There are still living people who witnessed him play. Like, he objectively existed.
