Like most Gen X-ers, 51-year-old Angelina Jolie likely had to study penmanship in elementary school. (As a fellow Gen X-er, I can attest that this particular class often lowered my grade point average.) But now that many schools place less emphasis on cursive, younger generations might struggle not only to write it, but to read it, too.
A recent post on the How Everything Works Instagram page shared a thank-you note reportedly written by Jolie for hotel staff. As the note goes viral, many have weighed in, calling it mostly illegible. This is causing quite a stir between generations, with some blaming a lack of education on this subject as the culprit.
The original poster added, for context, "Angelina Jolie left a handwritten thank you note for the staff after staying at a luxury hotel, but the internet quickly became more interested in trying to read it. Her distinctive cursive proved so difficult to decipher that people began sharing their guesses about what the note actually said, turning a simple message into an unexpected online puzzle. Some words were easier to make out than others, but the handwriting became the main attraction, with fans collectively trying to decode the entire note. What started as a thoughtful gesture from Jolie ended up becoming a viral guessing game over her handwriting."
Many commenters tried to transcribe the letter, which appears to have first been shared back in October, 2023. One commenter immediately notes how difficult it might be for Gen Z to read it. She first shares her take on what the note says. "'Thank you for a restful stay at your beautiful resort. The 'Maria' crew had a lovely time here. With love, Angelina Jolie' — With some context and if you know cursive, you can make most of it out. I don't think any GenZ's would know what this said."
Others suggested it was some kind of medical professional "script." This Instagrammer explains, in part, " This is NOT script. It's just her sloppy 'style' of writing. Yes. I'm a nurse."

Leave it to Elon Musk to say, essentially, I've been right all along.
The **** eX (SPCX) and Tesla (TSLA) CEO agreed with Anthropic (ANTH.PVT) CEO Dario Amodei on his essay arguing for pacing AI advances.
The crux of Amodei's argument is that AI using recursive self-improvement "could outrun our ability to understand and control these systems, and so must be pursued very carefully, if at all."
In order to prevent future harms, Amodei said frontier AI companies should commit to embedding third-party evaluators in their organizations that can **** s their AI models and confirm the labs' "adherence to safety practices and commitments, report incidents, and help **** s the alignment of not just completed AI models but training pipelines and processes."
Musk replied on X.com, "Dario is right," but also added later that he's been "sounding the alarm" over AI for some time now, linking back to a post he made back in 2023, when he wrote, "AGI is significantly higher risk than nuclear weapons, in my opinion. Super smart humans have trouble imagining something vastly smarter than themselves."

VC investment in quantum computing notched a record $2 billion in Q2 across 23 deals, accounting for a third of dollars in the chips and datacenters vertical, according to a new PitchBook report.
Quantum's marquee event this quarter was Quantinuum's IPO, which accounted for most of the $19 billion in quantum exit value and was the first major test of the technology in public markets. On the VC side, Oxford Quantum Circuits raised a £260 million Series C led by Bullhound Capital.
Strategics are eyeing quantum technologies, too. Miraex, a quantum hardware startup, was bought in June following Quantum Circuits $538 million sale earlier this year.
Overall, investment in chips and datacenters fell for the second consecutive quarter, hitting $6.6 billion across 133 deals in Q2. Despite the pullback from recent highs, 2026 is still on pace to exceed 2025's record of $21.6 billion.
The declines were concentrated in semiconductor chip design startups, which posted their weakest quarter since Q1 2025 at $1.7 billion. While newer chip design entrants like Etched, d-Matrix, and Ricursive Intelligence are making waves, the dominance of larger players has given investors pause.

As usual, the Nvidia earnings call was a discursive affair, touching on many different subjects. But the only thing that mattered in the end came right near the beginning of the call.

Sandra Bullock debuted a new tattoo at the European premiere of Practical Magic 2 on Wednesday, August 26.
The 62-year-old turned heads at London's Odeon Luxe Leicester Square in a stunning leopard-print Givenchy gown designed by Sarah Burton.
The dress featured a structured corset top and an elaborate skirt with a near-waist-high slit, which she paired with layered gold necklaces and feathered black open-toed heels.
The strapless gown exposed Sandra's back, revealing a delicate cursive tattoo on her shoulder that reads "LB²."
The dainty ink, which Sandra has not publicly discussed, appears to be an homage to her two children, son Louis, 16, and daughter Laila, 12, and her late partner Bryan Randall, who died on August 5, 2023 at 57 after a three-year battle with ALS.

Nike and the NFL revealed the 2026 Rivalries uniforms for teams in the AFC South and NFC North, including a new design for the Jacksonville Jaguars. The Jaguars will wear the new uniform on Nov. 1 during a home game against divisional rival the Indianapolis Colts.
The Rivalries program launched in 2025 as a collaboration between Nike, the NFL and participating clubs to create uniform designs influenced by local team communities. The 2026 release expands the initiative into its second year with eight new team uniforms.
The Jaguars uniform combination features a white jersey, black pants and white socks with prominent teal, gold and black accents. A teal-glossed helmet displays a gold face mask and a "904" mark representing Jacksonville's area code. The outer collar features a "Since "95" inscription honoring the franchise's inaugural season and cursive script spelling out "Jaguars" references the team's Southern roots.
The black pants feature a teal stripe with gold trim over a subtle jaguar print pattern, with the names of Jacksonville neighborhoods hidden inside the spots on the pants. Following the game against Indianapolis, the Rivalries uniform will remain in the team's uniform rotation for three years alongside existing alternate uniforms.
Fanatics will begin selling coinciding fan merchandise in stores and online on Sept. 1, including jerseys, helmets, shirts, jackets, footwear and hats. The Miller Electric Center Pro Shop will operate with special hours on Sept. 1 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., while maintaining standard hours from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday and opening 3 hours before kickoff on home game days.NFL executives highlighted the rollout of the new division designs across both conferences. Taryn Hutt, vice president of club marketing for the NFL, commented on the expansion of the program.
