Some love stories begin with a grand gesture or a chance encounter — but for Jonathan Scott and Zooey Deschanel, the unusual start to their journey was captured on camera from the very beginning.
During a trip down memory lane on Tuesday, August 4, Jonathan, 48, posted a throwback selfie on Instagram showing the day he filmed Carpool Karaoke with brother Drew Scott, 48, as well as his now-fiancée, 46, and her sister Emily Deschanel.
"7 years ago I met this amazing woman on carpoolkaraoke and well…the rest is history," he captioned the shot. "How many people can say their origin story was caught on video." Jonathan concluded the sweet message with laughing and heart emojis.
During the episode, the group sang along to a mix of beloved songs, including K-Ci & JoJo's "All My Life," Britney Spears' "…Baby One More Time" and Christmas classic "Baby It's Cold Outside," a fun nod to Zooey's famous role in Elf.
Although the episode aired in 2020, it was filmed the previous summer, when Jonathan and the New Girl alum's love story was just beginning.

Scott showed his love for his fiancée on Instagram on Tuesday, July 7, by sharing new photos of them. "Yeah… I'm crushin," he wrote underneath the post, adding a heart eyes emoji.
The post's first slide featured sweet snaps the two took in a photo booth. Scott followed up the photo with a selfie the couple took while enjoying a meal out, as well as a red carpet pic of the pair at the A Complete Unknown movie premiere in December 2024.
Fans gushed over Scott's heartfelt post in the comments. "Please just 'Get married!'" one user quipped. Another added, "OMGGGGGGGGG, long live love, and may your love be eternal." Someone else shared, "I love it!!! You've always been my favorite! You have such great energy and you can see just how much you love her. I wish you both tons of happiness!!"
