In the end, Kevin Warsh's Federal Reserve acquitted itself well. For all the uncertainty he had sparked at the previous meeting of the Federal Open Market Committee, when he refused to provide any indication of what he was prepared to do to tame stubborn inflation, the chair on Wednesday presided over a unanimous decision to raise interest rates for the first time in three years.
"Today's action starts to show that we're serious about this," he said at the press conference after the meeting, with "this" meaning inflation in excess of the Fed's 2% target for over five years. Welcome though it was, his embrace of economic orthodoxy nonetheless did little to dispel the Keystone Cops quality of governance in Donald Trump's US.
Warsh's resolve – raising rates just a few weeks before elections that will determine whether Republicans retain control of Congress – appeared even more resolute in the face of a veiled threat from White House economic adviser Kevin Hassett, who pointed out to his chums on Fox that "if you want an independent Fed, then one thing the Fed does is it stays out of the way of elections".

Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Warsh has revealed himself. If not a card-carrying monetarist, he is at least a camp follower. This represents a dramatic change at the Fed, where the past Chairman Jerome Powell repeatedly rejected the basic tenets of monetarism.
This is a welcomed earthquake. After all, there are almost no monetarists left in the world (except for us, and we've been fighting a lonely rearguard action for over 40 years). The Federal Reserve has rejected monetarism consistently — and on the record — because it preferred other models for understanding the economy. In academia, monetarism has been out of fashion for decades. But by his own words, a monetarist is now leading the central bank.
Just what is monetarism? It's a doctrine which holds that money has a major influence on both the level of ***** et prices, economic activity, and the price level. Any discussion of national income determination must, therefore, center on the quantity of money and the banking system, since banks produce most of the money in modern economies. When it comes to monetary policy, its objectives are best met by targeting the rate of growth of the money supply.
Today, most economists pooh-pooh monetarism. Money and banking are nowhere to be found in their macroeconomic models, or their discourses about the course of ***** et prices, economic activity, and prices. Indeed, their forecasting exercises are typically based on elaborations of Keynesian income-expenditure models that exclude money and banking.
If that's not enough, we think that the Fed's backroom staff, mostly Keynesian-leaning Democrats, don't want alignment with a philosophy usually affiliated with Milton Friedman, but that's another story. Pharming Group N.V. (NASDAQ:PHAR) announced on September 11 that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved Joenja for children aged 4–11 with activated PI3K delta syndrome, or APDS, who weigh at least 27 kilograms. APDS disrupts immune function.
The new 40 mg and 50 mg tablet strengths expand dosing options for Joenja, or leniolisib. The pediatric regimen also includes 70 mg twice daily for children weighing at least 45 kilograms. Pharming Group N.V. (NASDAQ:PHAR) expects the new strengths in October through its existing distribution and patient-support network.
The expansion arrives as the revenue mix shifts. Second-quarter Joenja revenue increased 40% year over year to $17.9 million, while RUCONEST revenue declined 10% to $72.3 million. Total revenue fell 3% to $90.2 million. Joenja's growth is substantial, but the larger franchise still determines much of the overall result.

Stocks slid Wednesday afternoon after Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Warsh followed the central bank's first rate hike in three years with a press conference that hinted it wouldn't be the last.
The S&P 500 dropped 1%, heading toward its lowest close since July. The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 1.7%, or more than 700 points, with financial shares leading the decline. The Nasdaq Composite fell 0.8%. The 10-year Treasury yield held near 5% a day after touching its highest level since 2007, and the dollar index climbed 0.6% to its strongest since late July.
Markets had priced in the quarter-point increase itself and initially took it in stride. All three indexes were higher before the 2 p.m. decision. The selling started during the press conference.
Warsh was on a tightrope going in. The question was whether he'd frame the hike as a one-off adjustment—which risked the bond market reading it as too little to deter inflation—or as the start of a longer cycle. He did neither, and instead went in a more hawkish direction. "I would be hard pressed to describe broad financial conditions as restrictive," he said in his opening remarks. "This view was widely shared by the committee, so we removed a dose of accommodation."
That's a new way of describing a rate hike, and one investors aren't used to. Under his predecessor, Jerome Powell, the Fed called policy "modestly restrictive," meaning rates were already high enough to slow the economy. Warsh was saying that at 3.5%–3.75%, they weren't—and by implication, one quarter point may not have gotten them there either. Asked directly, he declined to say whether policy is restrictive now.

Bakersfield High football coach Cody Stone calls it the "relief syndrome." It's the feeling one has by passing a tough test on the field. Stone, as he's stated each week after a Drillers' victory, doesn't believe in that kind of thinking.
So it's no surprise that BHS' 46-14 victory over Clovis West last Friday continued that approach. But scoring 46 points against a top five team in the CIF Central Section makes it harder to downplay.
"I was happy, not just with our kids, but our entire coaching staff," he said. "I was pleased with the way the kids executed the game plan. Our coaches held the kids to a high standard.
"Clovis West is a very historic program. They have a great coach, great talent, but our kids came out and got on them pretty quick. What I think our coaches liked most was that our kids came out and never let up."
He and his staff also enjoyed seeing players support each other. More than once on a long touchdown run, teammates escorted each other and celebrated in the end zone.

The line-up for one of a city's biggest Christmas pantomimes has been announced.
Craig Revel Horwood, Andy Ford and BBC Radio Bristol's Joe Sims are all joining the cast for a rendition of Sleeping Beauty at the Bristol Hippodrome for the month of December.
Strictly Come Dancing judge Revel Horwood has been cast as this year's pantomime villain, Sleeping Beauty's wicked aunt Carabosse and is relishing the prospect.
"She's a wicked fairy, which is totally unlike me darling," said Revel Horwood.

A lot has happened since our early posting this week. The biggest injury news is the meniscus tear suffered by the No. 1 tight end, the Raiders' Brock Bowers. He will miss Week 1, and at least a couple of weeks after that.
The season-opening game proved painful for New England star receiver A.J. Brown. He's now on injured reserve.with a high-ankle sprain that will sideline him at least a month.
Several questionable players are more likely to play this week. Arizona rookie RB Jeremiyah Love and Las Vegas sophomore Ashton Jeanty are now expected to start, as is Chicago wideout Rome Odunze. And while Giants WR Malik Nabers is playing it coy, he should be on the field tomorrow night against Dallas.
Cooper Rush will now quarterback Atlanta thanks to injuries to Michael Penix and Tua Tagovailoa. That might turn out to be good news for top Falcons performers Drake London, Bijan Robinson and Kyle Pitts.

The New England Patriots may need to address their edge rusher unit after another injury landed on Harold Landry's doorstep to begin the 2026 NFL season.
The Patriots have a productive unit when healthy, led by Landry and Dre'Mont Jones, with rookie Gabe Jacas expected to produce meaningfully for the team. However, more may be needed.
Bleacher Report's Kristopher Knox labeled Maxx Crosby and Kayvon Thibodeaux as being two star edge rushers that the Patriots ought to trade for in 2026, in the event that they pursue a player to fill their needs in the trade market.
"If another team comes calling about Crosby, the Raiders will undoubtedly listen," Knox said. "They're in the early stages of a rebuild and may not be ready to contend while Crosby is still in his playing prime. The asking price will be high, but teams that believe they can chase a Super Bowl are bound to target him before November 10."
Crosby is a superstar edge rusher who has the talent to take New England over the top in the Super Bowl race. Giving up draft picks and a player or two will do the Patriots much good to stack their roster with Drake Maye, A.J. WEST HAVEN – Cheshire senior kicker Tim Reinhard was feeling good in warm-ups, drilling kicks through the uprights from 50 yards away. Reinhard felt he would get his opportunity during the game.
Reinhard came through, capping a furious second half rally by the Rams, when he nailed a 44-yard field goal with 1 minute, 55 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter to lift Cheshire football to a 15-13 victory over West Haven in a Southern Connecticut Conference contest at Ken Strong Stadium in West Haven Friday evening.
"I'm so grateful to have a team to put me in a position to go help win a game," Reinhard said. "Nothing is possible without my team helping me."
After trailing 13-0 at the half and accumulating less than 20 yards of offense in the first half, Cheshire turned the game around in the third quarter by taking advantage of two West Haven miscues.
On West Haven's first offensive snap of the third quarter, the ball sailed out of the end zone for a Cheshire safety. The Rams then marched 44 yards in six plays and got within 13-10 on a Michael Chopak 15-yard touchdown run, and the conversion run by Shane Jerome.

It has been a rough start to the season for the New England Patriots. They dropped the Super Bowl rematch against the Seattle Seahawks 13-10 and lost their star wide receiver AJ Brown for at least the next four games in the process with a high ankle sprain.
Brown exited the game in the third quarter and did not return. New England scored all their points in the first half and were held without points after Brown exited. Their top receivers are now Romeo Doubs, Demario Douglas and Mack Hollins although quarterback Drake Maye could not seem to get on the same page as Doubs who did not have a single catch.
Douglas finished the opener with five catches but only 20 yards while Hollins was the Patriots' leading receiver with 51 total yards. Rookie tight end Eli Raridon scored New England's only touchdown of the game in the second quarter.

On Sept. 10, the first day of New York Fashion Week, Romeo Beckham walked in Tommy Hilfiger's Spring/Summer 2027 presentation held in the lobby of The Plaza Hotel in Midtown Manhattan.
The 24-year-old model was the last to walk the runway, claiming the most coveted slot at most fashion shows.
The closing spot is typically reserved for the collection's most important or defining outfit, often modeled by the biggest name on the runway. Still, despite his high profile, some did not believe Romeo deserved the honor.
Romeo walked the runway in a relaxed style with his hands in his pockets, his face expressionless. He modeled a light pink ****** on-up shirt with a color-block tie, a flannel, gray shorts, and brown leather loafers with black socks.

The Bears released their final injury report ahead of Sunday's opener, where four players have been dubbed as questionable against the Panthers.
