"LyondellBasell Industries N.V. (NYSE:LYB), the plastics producer gave back some of that 88.3% return of last quarter, and fell 34.0%, We are continually amazed by the market's response to the war in Iraq. It seems that this so called "ceasefire" (the one where Iran keeps attacking ships in the Strait of Hormuz and the US keeps bombing) has led to expectations that all is well for the affected commodity markets. Management provided results in early May, and reported expectations that the higher prices will be sustained for some time. That makes sense to us. But since then, Polyethylene and Polypropylene prices, for example, have fallen by around 15%. After we sold around two thirds of our holding during the March quarter, we ceased as the price fell to levels below our valuation. It currently accounts for 2.1% of the Fund and we are comfortable with maintaining this position."

On August 6, PureCycle Technologies (NASDAQ:PCT) reported second-quarter results for the period ended June 30, and buried in the numbers was something the plastics recycler has chased for years: an actual branded product on store shelves. Select Downy detergent caps made with PureCycle's PureFive resin entered commercial production for Procter & Gamble during the quarter, the first tangible sign the company's purification technology can clear a major consumer brand's supply chain. Revenue came in at $4.5 million, up roughly 173% from a year earlier and the sixth straight quarter of sequential growth.
The Downy win was not an isolated event. PureCycle said select Tide caps are scheduled for retail production in the third quarter, with Vicks ZzzQuil PURE Zzzs child-resistant lids targeted for the fourth quarter of 2026. Seven customer conversions took place during the quarter, alongside six new commercial partnerships spanning closures, automotive, film, and food packaging, including Amcor, Motherson, and Innovia Films. Regulation is doing real work here too. New Jersey's Department of Environmental Protection approved PureFive as post-consumer recycled content, a decision that arrives as the state's food contact exemption expires in January 2027 and its recycled content requirement climbs to 20%, while California's SB54 is already in effect.
Operationally, the Ironton facility's planned turnaround finished ahead of schedule and under budget, with more than 170 reliability and rate projects completed and inspections showing no corrosion on major equipment. On-site compounding, commissioned in April, is now running 24 hours a day, five days a week, with plans to expand to seven by the fourth quarter. PureCycle also picked up ISO 9001:2015 certification in May and closed the quarter with $236.9 million in total liquidity after a June capital raise.
The other side of the ledger is harder to ignore. PureCycle posted a net loss of $142.2 million for the quarter, and adjusted EBITDA actually widened to a loss of $31.7 million from a loss of $27.8 million a year earlier, a shift the company attributes to smaller non-cash addbacks rather than weaker operations. PureFive production fell to 4.5 million pounds for the quarter, a direct result of the planned turnaround, even though output was still up about 32% from a year ago. Growth is not coming cheap either. Full-year 2026 project spending guidance was raised to a range of $45 million to $50 million, up from the prior $39 million to $45 million.

Dow Inc. (NYSE:DOW) is reportedly considering selling its 35% stake in Sadara Chemical, its $20 billion chemicals joint venture with Saudi Aramco, as the company continues to reshape its portfolio amid a prolonged downturn in the global chemicals industry. No final decision has been made, and Aramco or another strategic or financial investor could potentially acquire Dow's stake.
The potential exit comes as Sadara has become a significant financial burden for Dow. As of June 30, Dow Inc. (NYSE:DOW) had a negative investment balance of $793 million in Sadara and had suspended recognition of its share of the venture's equity losses in the first quarter. Dow has also been exposed to Sadara's financing obligations and previously disclosed that the venture had drawn on a credit facility.
At the same time, Sadara remains a major industrial ****** et, operating a complex in Jubail with more than 3 million metric tons of annual chemicals and plastics capacity. Its operations were disrupted earlier this year by the Middle East conflict, adding transportation, supply-chain, and operating pressures to an industry already dealing with weak demand and global oversupply.
The strongest argument for Dow Inc. (NYSE:DOW) is that exiting Sadara could remove a persistent drag on cash flow and allow management to redirect capital toward businesses with better returns. Dow's exposure to Sadara is no longer simply an investment in a large Saudi chemicals complex; the company has accumulated a negative investment balance and financial obligations ****** ociated with the venture. A sale could therefore reduce Dow's exposure to future funding requirements and limit the amount of capital that could otherwise have to be committed to the partnership.
That would be particularly valuable because Dow is already trying to improve its cash generation. Management has said its objective is to reach free-cash-flow breakeven while pursuing significant cost reductions. In March, CEO Jim Fitterling said Dow's goal was to avoid putting additional cash into Sadara during 2026, while describing the venture as having low operating cash costs but more challenging fixed costs and financing obligations.

Dow is considering an exit from its stake in the $20-billion Sadara Chemical Company venture with Saudi Aramco as the U.S. chemicals giant battles a prolonged industry downturn compounded by the Iran war.
Dow could sell its reported 35% interest in the Saudi petrochemical complex, with Aramco potentially emerging as a buyer, Bloomberg reported on Wednesday, citing people familiar with the matter. Strategic and financial investors could also be interested, although no final decision has been made.
The potential exit comes as the global chemicals industry struggles with weak demand, persistent overcapacity and elevated costs. The Middle East conflict has added another layer of pressure by disrupting petrochemical flows and supply chains and increasing transportation and operating expenses.
Sadara itself was temporarily shut earlier this year due to conflict-related supply disruptions.
Located in Jubail Industrial City, Sadara was developed as a $20-billion mega-project and was the world's largest integrated chemicals complex built in a single phase when completed. Its 26 manufacturing plants have the capacity to produce more than 3 million metric tons of performance plastics and high-value chemicals annually.

The late Queen spent 70 years on the throne, during which time she carried out more than 21,000 public and official engagements. As such, there wasn't a lot that would phase Her Majesty.
But her composure did slip on one very rare occasion - and the cameras were there to capture the moment.
The momentary mishap took place back in 2010, when Elizabeth stepped out to mark the 150th anniversary of the Eton Combined Cadet Force at Eton College - coincidentally where her great grandson Prince George will start this week.
Dressed in a lilac skirt suit and matching hat, she was warmly greeted by excited crowds as she arrived for the occasion.
The Queen was certainly used to accepting bouquets of flowers on her public engagement - but on this occasion, she struggled to keep hold of a plastic-wrapped display offered to her by a well-wisher.

For years now, fans of Oscar-winning actress Jennifer Lawrence have speculated that she underwent plastic surgery to enhance her ageless looks, with many believing that she had an entire facelift done.
Jennifer finally admitted to the cosmetic enhancements she had received over the years and shared the one procedure she would never dare to do.
Jennifer shared that she had received baby Botox in the past (@ Penske Media via Getty Images)
"I need to have movement in my face," the star told Vogue. "I get baby Botox, but I can't do a lot. If my skin is going to be a little saggier than I would like, at least it looks dewy and pretty."
Jennifer explained that she wanted to undergo a buccal fat removal procedure, which occurs when the fat pads from the lower cheeks are removed from the face to make it appear slimmer. "I would love to have a buccal fat removal. I can't because everybody would know, but just know that I want that," she said.

MD Sass, a boutique **** et management firm, published its second-quarter investor update for its flagship, the "MD Sass Concentrated Value Strategy." The letter can be downloaded here. In the first half of 2026, AI infrastructure stocks led the market, with the Russell 1000 Value increasing by 16.3%, outpacing the S&P 500 (10.2%) and Russell 1000 Growth (5.3%). This growth was fueled by semiconductor, memory, and hardware companies benefiting from AI development, even though they are considered cyclical. These sectors, representing only 7.7% of the Russell 1000 Value at the start of the year, contributed nearly 70% of its returns. The portfolio gained 10.0% in the second quarter, net of fees, compared to 13.9% for the Russell 1000 Value Index. Year-to-date, the strategy returned 6.6%, net of fees, versus 16.3% for the Index. The portfolio faced challenges due to limited exposure to companies with the greatest upside from AI infrastructure investments. It also lacked exposure to the Energy sector, which returned about 20% in the first half amid geopolitical tensions with Iran that increased commodity prices, affecting performance. The firm recognizes the importance of adapting its strategies while maintaining core investment principles as it explores future opportunities in emerging technological themes. Also, check the fund's top five holdings to see its best picks in 2026.
In its second-quarter 2026 investor letter, MD Sass Concentrated Value Strategy highlighted Primo Brands Corporation (NYSE:PRMB) as a notable contributor. Primo Brands Corporation (NYSE:PRMB) operates as a branded beverage company in North America. On August 28, 2026, Primo Brands Corporation (NYSE:PRMB) closed at $23.00 per share. Over the past month, Primo Brands Corporation (NYSE:PRMB) returned 3.00%, while its shares have declined 8.40% in the last 52 weeks. Primo Brands Corporation (NYSE:PRMB) has a market capitalization of $8.32 billion, and its stock has traded within a 52-week range of $14.36 to $26.21.
MD Sass Concentrated Value Strategy stated the following regarding Primo Brands Corporation (NYSE:PRMB) in its Q2 2026 investor letter:
"The largest positive contributors to performance in Q2 were Primo Brands Corporation (NYSE:PRMB), Micron Technology (MU), and Henry Schein (HSIC), which collectively contributed approximately 382 bps. PRMB, a leading North American branded water company with a significant retail and home and office delivery business, declined 23% from its March 3 year-to-date peak amid concerns about commodity inflation following the onset of the conflict in Iran. Prices for plastic resins and other oil-related inputs rose sharply from the end of February through mid-April, raising concerns that PRMB would need to cut guidance given its exposure to PET resin and other packaging costs. The company's May 7 financial results and earnings call provided a big sigh of relief. Management explained that a combination of hedging, forward purchase agreements

It's reasonable to **** ume that people only really talk about Taylor Swift's outfits because she's Taylor Swift. But even beyond the hype, the Grammy winner has proven time and again that she possesses an impeccable fashion sense. The "Shake It Off" hitmaker knows how to cleverly build each public appearance to reward a closer look, whether it's the best outfits Swift has worn in every era of her career or a casual 2026 street style moment during which Swift perfectly nailed the '70s nostalgia look with only two items of clothing. On May 15, 2026, she and her then-fiancé Travis Kelce were photographed enjoying a night out on the town in Manhattan. The singer-songwriter was wearing some of the most expensive jewelry out there, but her dreamy ensemble was what stole the show.

Understandably, what everybody noticed first was the dress — a gorgeous, cream-colored midi scattered with faded blue olive sprigs. Paired with beige, strappy leather sandals, the "I Knew You Were Trouble" hitmaker looked like she'd walked straight out of an Emily Brontë or Jane Austen novel. Swift's lipstick, the one colorful stroke in an otherwise neutral palette, is definitely worth a closer look, too. The pop star opted for a rosy shade, though not so bright as to look jarring against the rest of the outfit, which consisted mostly of muted florals. It complemented everything seamlessly, hammering home that prairie vibe she was going for. Being one of her last date-night looks as a bride-to-be before the July 3 ceremony, it offered yet another look into why Swift's story-rich aesthetic is one of a kind, and why we keep chasing the details well after the moment has passed.

Patient fans have been waiting nearly three decades for a follow-up to "Practical Magic." Based on a best-selling book by Alice Hoffman, the 1998 fantasy rom-com starred Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock as witch sisters, trying to dispel a curse that threatens their love lives. Now the wait is almost over, as "Practical Magic 2" is set to release in September 2026. The stars have been promoting the film in recent weeks, and we're wondering if they used a little magic of their own for their enchanting beauty.
Appearing in London for the European premiere of the sequel on August 26, 2026, Kidman, doing better than ever since her recent divorce from Keith Urban, stunned in a custom sequin Chanel gown that flattered her height and figure. Bullock also defied the outdated "wisdom" that women over 40 should dress demurely; her leopard-print Givenchy number was anything but sedate. Both actresses' dresses also featured high slits to better show off their legs.
John Phillips/Getty
Style-wise, the women easily outshone their Gen Z costars as they posed for press photos. Joey King and Maisie Williams play Bullock's adult daughters, Kylie and Antonia Owens. Williams paid homage to a red dress Bullock wore in 1999; her Ellie Misner gown was gorgeous, but perhaps just a bit aging on a young woman. King went the daring route with an ultra-sheer floor-length dress that seemed more sleepwear than red-carpet.

Calling all crypto-heads! Last week, crypto exchange operator Kraken announced the Krak Card, a debit instrument that provides cashback in either traditional U.S. dollars or cryptocurrency.
This isn't the first crypto cashback plastic on the scene and, given the recent upswing in digital coinage, probably not the last. Here's a brief look at the card and this interesting new niche of the payment card market.
Missed Nvidia in 2009? This Rare Signal Is Flashing Again. In 2009, a "Double Down" signal flashed for a little-known chipmaker called Nvidia. For the first time in years, that same "Total Conviction" signal is flashing for a company 1/100th the size of Nvidia. Continue »
Kraken, which isn't publicly traded but has filed the regulatory documentation necessary for an IPO, announced the Krak Card last week. The cashback feature returns from 0% to 2% (depending on the user's total holdings across the Kraken network) on every purchase. It's affected by either greenbacks or Bitcoin (CRYPTO: BTC).
The company's timing was fortuitous. The day after it formally announced its product, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said the Treasury would, at a minimum, double its regular repurchases of relatively long-term government debt securities.

USC debuted its latest concession stand item, which could take over the College Football landscape: the Trojan Beer Sword.
The item is meant to consume its namesake, letting fans pour their beer of choice into the top and fill it up.
It has a red plastic handle with a vertical sword grip, while the "blade" is a clear plastic tube that looks quite long and features the infamous USC logo.
Rather than the top of the sword being round, it is shaved off to be quite pointy, allowing the drinker to put their mouth on the tip and tilt it up for easy consumption.

PENGHU, Taiwan, Aug 28 (Reuters) - In the pre-dawn darkness on an island in the Taiwan Strait, Taiwanese troops earlier this month pulled long, gleaming 105mm shells from their green plastic canisters. After all the ammunition had been checked and safely loaded through hatches on four tanks, troops waited silently for the order to fire.
(Read the story on Reuters.com: )
The soldiers are among the thousands of troops that form a garrison on the Penghu Islands and they are training for war with China. If Beijing decides to attack, they will be on Taiwan's frontline.
A popular tourist destination known for its pristine beaches and coral reefs, this strategically crucial cluster of 90 islands and islets, about 50 km off the southwest coast of the main island of Taiwan, would be hit in the first wave of an attempted Chinese invasion, according to senior Taiwanese security officials and military experts.

For Kylie Jenner, bigger is better.
On the Wednesday, August 26, episode of the Better Half with Stas & Vic podcast, the Kardashians star, 29, talked about the plastic surgery she's had, specifically when it comes to her chest.
Hosts Anastasia Karanikolaou and Victoria Villarroel brought up the time that the Kylie Cosmetics founder revealed the exact augmentation order she asked for when a social media fan requested she disclose what she had done to achieve her look.
"I really didn't think much of it," Jenner said of answering the TikToker. "I know that sounds crazy to some people, but I really didn't think it was going to be like a moment, you know?"
While Jenner revealed what exactly she had done — as well as the cosmetic surgeon who did the job — the reality TV star admitted, "I do want them bigger."

Amcor is supplying Tiptree, the preserves and spreads business owned by Wilkin & Sons, with packaging films containing certified 30% post-consumer recycled (PCR) plastic for use in shrink film and pallet stretch wrap.
The change covers Amcor's collation shrink film and Bontite Sustane stretch wrap, each made with 30% PCR content.
Tiptree is making the switch before revisions to the UK Plastic Packaging Tax (PPT) take effect in April 2027.
Under those rules, post-industrial recycled (PIR) material will no longer qualify towards the 30% minimum recycled plastic requirement, with only PCR content set to count.
According to Amcor, the films are intended to preserve packaging, supporting efficiency, load stability and wider cost considerations.

Justin Bieber posted a sneaky new photo of his and Hailey Bieber's son, Jack Blues Bieber, and the dad-son duo shared an uncanny resemblance. The youngest member of the Bieber family celebrated his second birthday recently. His beauty mogul mother shared a glimpse of the celebrations on her Instagram Stories on August 22.
On August 25, Justin Bieber posted a carousel of photos, featuring his family and friends. The eighth slide was a sneaky picture of his son, Jack Blues Bieber, whose face his parents have deliberately kept hidden from the media. Captured from behind, the 2-year-old sat in the foreground, leaning over.
Jack had short, light brown hair and wore a long-sleeved white textured top, while holding a miniature black-and-white soccer ball. He was also wearing a gold braided bracelet on his right wrist. The resemblance between Jack and his father made the young boy look almost like Justin's twin.
Jack sat in front of a large outdoor ball pit. A white padded border with a decorative scalloped top edge enclosed the pit. Hundreds of plastic play ***** in a color mix of white, light beige, sky blue, and pops of red filled the pit, with a small brown football tucked into the mix near the right side.
The "Beauty and a Beat" singer has mostly been tight-lipped about his family. However, in February 2025, he expressed his interest in introducing his son to hockey (via ***** o!). He participated in the Skate for LA Strong charity ice hockey game to help raise money for those who lost their house in the devastating wildfires.

Venezuela-born model and social media influencer Veronica Perasso claims that she cannot undo the illegal silicone injections she got at a friend's place because it would require open surgery and a month-long stay in another country.
Perasso, who has over 4.7 million followers on Instagram, recently began posting video tutorials about her cosmetic procedures. She emphasized that she intends to educate, not to advertise plastic surgery.
In her exclusive interview with Where Is The Buzz, the influencer elaborated on her experience. She revealed details about the night when she got injections, the advice she received from the surgeons, and explained why she feels ready to give up on her earnings for the sake of publicizing her story.
According to Perasso, she started getting plastic surgeries at the age of 20, but she chose not to conceal her breast augmentation.
"I had no problem talking about my breast augmentation, but after I did the silicone injections I felt embarrassed of what I have done to my body," she said.

Exxon is in the running for Shell's U.S. chemicals business that could fetch $8 billion, the Financial Times reported today, citing unnamed sources familiar with developments.
The U.S. supermajor is competing with LyondellBasell, Apollo Global Management, and the Kuwait Petroleum Corporation, the unnamed sources also told the publication. The potential buyers have submitted non-binding offers to Shell, with these ranging from offers to buy parts of the business to offers for the whole division.
Shell's chemicals business in the United States comprises four facilities in Louisiana, Texas, and Pennsylvania that make chemicals used in a range of industries, from plastics production to detergents.
Shell has made two **** et sales recently, one of its onshore wind and solar power business in Europe and the other of a stake in a gas project offshore Cyprus. The wind and solar power deal went to TotalEnergies and involved 500 megawatts of combined renewable generation capacity in operation and in development, as well as a pipeline of projects for future development across Italy, the Netherlands, Spain, and the UK.
The transaction is subject to regulatory approvals and is expected to complete by the end of 2026, Shell said earlier this month in the announcement of the deal with TotalEnergies.

"Family Ties" launched Michael J. Fox into fame, but it also introduced many people to his stunning wife, Tracy Pollan. Pollan landed the role of Ellen Reed, the love interest of Fox's character Alex Keaton. The New York-born actor made her mark after filming one season of the '80s sitcom, and despite becoming her husband's caretaker, she's worked on different shows and movies in the following decades. "Family Ties" fans definitely know what the cast looks like today, but they might need a reminder that Pollan is such a beauty without makeup in her 60s.
In March 2025, the actor posted on Instagram to wish her friend Jennifer Grey a happy birthday. Pollan and the "Dirty Dancing" star took a selfie outdoors with both of their hands resting under their chins. Pollan' cheeks looked smooth as she gave a close-mouthed smile. She had slight signs of aging around the mouth and the eyes, but her forehead also seemed pretty creaseless. The wind blowing on her hair also made the "Family Ties" alum look effortlessly gorgeous.

In May 2026, she shared an Instagram carousel celebrating the birthday of Sam Fox, the eldest of her and Michael J. Fox's four children. "Happy, Happy, Happy Birthday Schmoo!!! You are the best and I could not love you more," she wrote. "You make me and everyone in your lucky orbit so happy!"

DEIR AL-BALAH, Gaza Strip (AP) — Hundreds of thousands of displaced Palestinians in Gaza make the difficult choice every day between digging into garbage dumps for combustible materials to help cook their meals or crowding around the territory's scarce charity kitchens.
The Kahlout family has tasked their 12-year-old son, Omar, with walking daily to a nearby dump to collect plastic and other material they can use as fuel. He digs with his bare hands and fills a worn-out sack, then carries it back to the tent where he lives with his family of eight.
They live close to the dump. Rats swarm their tent. This is life for many of Gaza's 2 million Palestinians who still languish in displacement camps and war-ravaged buildings, 10 months after a fragile ceasefire was reached between Israel and the Hamas militant group.
Families expressed doubt on the progress of talks that aim to end the war. "The truce is only in the media," said Omar's father, Adam. He said the family survives on food from humanitarian aid packages and charity kitchens.
And yet Palestinians say the food at the kitchens is not enough. Each family is allowed one piece of fish with rice. May people leave with their pots empty, even as Israel's government has said it is allowing enough food into the territory that remains largely cut off from the world.

A birthday gift for a young Max Verstappen fan took an unexpected but funny turn at Circuit Zandvoort when the shirt pulled from a green plastic bag turned out to be bright red and covered in Ferrari branding.
Formula 1 had its Dutch Grand Prix fan forum on on the Friday ahead of the sprint weekend, featuring Verstappen and his temporary team-mate Liam Lawson. Both drivers shone in their team colors; blue Oracle Red Bull Racing jackets with Ford Racing branding. It's the outfit's first season with power units built in partnership with Ford. And it's been mildly successful. Although not quite as successful as Ferrari who have been enjoying being the 'best of the rest' team.
The host tells the crowd the child is celebrating his birthday and has brought a shirt for Verstappen to sign. She offers Max a pen, at which point he spots the problem.
"Max Verstappen fan? He's got a Ferrari shirt!" Verstappen laughs.
The host looks playfully mortified. "There is no way that he's a Max fan! Come on! I should've checked, sorry."

On August 13, Applied Industrial Technologies (NYSE:AIT) held its fiscal fourth-quarter earnings call, and the numbers surprised even the company's own leadership. Organic sales grew 9.7%, the fastest pace in more than three years and a sharp jump from the 6% growth reported just one quarter earlier. For a distributor whose fortunes track the health of American manufacturing, that kind of acceleration is not a small thing, and it set up a call that ended with management raising its long-term ambitions rather than just its short-term guidance.
The breadth of the improvement stood out as much as the headline number. Twenty of the company's top 30 end markets posted positive year-over-year sales growth in the quarter, up from 17 last quarter and just 15 a year earlier, with metals, technology, utilities and energy, machinery, rubber and plastics, and pulp and paper leading the way. Automation sales jumped more than 20% year-over-year, the strongest growth in over four years, as customers lean into robotics, machine vision, and what management called physical AI.
The technology vertical now makes up more than 15% of the Engineered Solutions segment, with semiconductor demand and data center buildouts both contributing. The Service Center segment grew organic sales 8%, up from 4% last quarter, with 27 of 30 verticals positive. That segment has averaged 8% organic sales growth and 13% EBITDA growth over the past five years, a track record management pointed to as evidence the business is more durable than investors might ***** ume. All of that flowed through to the bottom line. EBITDA margin expanded more than 60 basis points to above 13%, EBITDA grew 16%, and SG&A expense fell to 18.6% of sales. The company generated $461 million in free cash flow for the year, returned $317 million to shareholders through buybacks, raised its dividend 11%, and used the momentum to lift its five-year targets, pushing the sales objective to $7 billion from $5.5 billion and the EBITDA margin goal to 14% from 13%.
The guidance Applied issued for fiscal 2027 tells a more cautious story than the quarter it just posted. Full-year sales growth guidance sits at just 4% to 6.5%, well below the 9.7% just delivered, with management citing tougher comparisons in the back half of the year and limited visibility into how trade policy and geopolitical dynamics evolve. Inside Engineered Solutions, flow control sales growth was muted in the quarter, weighed down by a difficult prior-year comparison and softer MRO activity across process end markets like chemicals and refining, both of which also declined outright for the year alongside lumber and wood and transportation.

Avantium still wants to make the plastic bottle of the future. The problem is that the future keeps needing more time, more commissioning work and more shareholder cash.
Avantium now expects commercial deliveries from its FDCA flagship plant in Delfzijl, the Netherlands, to begin at the end of this year.
The plant is designed to produce FDCA, the key building block for PEF, Avantium's plant-based and circular polymer marketed under the Releaf brand. Its technology converts plant-based sugars into FDCA, which can then be used to make PEF for bottles, packaging, fibers and specialty applications.
The company said the oxidation unit at the Delfzijl plant has been successfully commissioned, following the start-up of utility systems and the sugar dehydration unit. Commissioning work on the purification unit is being finalized.
