The iconic Christina Stambolian dress will be sold this December during Sotheby's Luxury Week with an estimate of $150,000–$300,000.
The dress will be offered at auction for the first time since June 1997, when the late princess sold 79 of her dresses at auction to raise funds to benefit cancer and AIDS charities.
A rare copy of the original catalog, numbered and signed by the princess and the designer of the dress, crediting Prince William with the idea of the sale will be sold with the dress. Part of the proceeds from the sale will be donated to NHS Lothian Charity on behalf of the Royal Edinburgh Hospital.

Not just a singer-songwriter, the businesswoman Dolly Parton, who died earlier this week, had a slew of projects in the pipeline, including a biopic, documentary, avatar show, museum, travel stop for truckers, coffee brand and dog treats.
"Dolly worked up until the day she died. She loved seeing her dreams come to life and loved knowing her work brought people joy," her longtime manager Danny Nozell told US media including Hollywood Reporter.

Almost five months after Bijou Phillips issued urgent plea for a kidney transplant donor, the story is getting its happy ending.
The model, 46, revealed in February that she had been hospitalized and was "in need of a kidney," asking for help in finding a donor. On July 7, she took to Instagram to share an update: She found the "perfect match" and has undergone a successful transplant.
"My wonderful brother donated in the kidney exchange!" she wrote. "He saved a life, and the life he saved had a special person donate for them, and then a few weeks later! The voucher program found me a perfect match! So close it's like I got the kidney from one of my parents!"
According to the National Kidney Registry, a kidney paired exchange occurs when a "donor will donate their kidney to another recipient in exchange for a compatible kidney for you."

On the latest episode of his Friends Keep Secrets podcast alongside Breaking Bad stars Aaron Paul and Bryan Cranston, the 38-year-old producer recalled the moment his mother made the surprising suggestion.
"The crazy thing is 2019, I'm shooting a video with Selena. I'm dating someone else," Blanco recalled near the 39-minute mark in the video below. "My mom's on the video shoot and she says, 'Hun, … you should marry Selena.' And I was like, 'What?' And she was like, 'You should be dating someone like Selena.'"
He continued, "And there was like two times in my life where I left a specific session late or video with her where I was like, 'Wow, she's so cool. She's like really cool.' 'Cause we were friendly and we were friends, but we weren't like best friends. And every time I hung out with her for an extended period of time, I'd be like, 'Oh my god, she's so cool.'"

Jill Smokler, founder of popular parenting blog and website "Scary Mommy," died Monday, June 22 after a yearslong battle with an aggressive form of brain cancer. She was 48.
Smokler's family broke the news in a social media post, writing "it's with broken hearts that we share that Jill passed away this morning, after a more than two-year fight with glioblastoma."
According to the post, "She faced it the way she faced everything — funny, fierce, and completely herself."
Smokler started "Scary Mommy" in March 2008 while she was raising her three children, all under the age of four, at home. "Here goes. Day One," were the first four words to ever be published on "Scary Mommy."
The obituary shared by Smokler's family described her contributions to the parenting community as "almost twenty years of telling the truth — the mess, the boredom, the guilt, the flashes of rage, and the love so big it somehow made all of it worth it."

The Shaftesbury Theatre in London's West End is to be renamed after the actress Dame Judi Dench, to celebrate her "unparalleled contribution" to British theatre and the performing arts.
The renaming of the venue will also honour Dame Judi's long-standing links with the theatre, bosses said.
The star was a founding member of the Theatre of Comedy, a collective that staged productions there in the 1980s and 90s. She went on to collaborate closely with the theatre's owners - the Taffner family - and their production company.
Dame Judi said the Shaftesbury Theatre had always held a "special place" in her heart, adding that the honour was "truly overwhelming".
Dame Judi is regarded as one of the most accomplished stage, musical theatre and television actresses of her generation, with a career spanning seven decades.
