With the MLB trade deadline approaching, Milwaukee Brewers fans are wondering who may join the Crew, but on this day in 2006 the Brewers made perhaps their most-important free-agent signing of the past 20 years.
Not Mike Cameron or Lorenzo Cain − the Chorizo.
On July 29, 2006, the Brewers added a new runner to the famous in-game sausage race in honor of the team's Latino fanbase. It was Cerveceros day at American Family Field − then Miller Park − back then. Cerveceros is Spanish for beer-maker, aka a Brewer. Chorizo finished third in that first race, which would be its only one of the 2006 season. After its debut, Chorizo was sent down to the minors for "seasoning," according to the Brewers, and returned on opening day 2007.
"This really began as a grassroots email and letter-writing campaign," current Brewers president of business operations, Rich Schlesinger, said at the time. "At first, it was a few letters a week, and, to use a food ***** ogy, it mushroomed to something much larger. We started taking it seriously."
This season, Chorizo is at the bottom of the pack in competition on the field, however, and is tied with Hot Dog for last place at seven wins, which is a better showing than previous years. Chorizo has been in last place overall for the past three seasons and has been near the bottom for the other two of the past five.

A Wisconsin brewery known for anti-Trump social media posts, including one promising a free beer promotion upon the death of President Donald Trump, has had its permit to operate in the state revoked by state officials.
The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported Monday that liberal activist and brewery owner Kirk Bangstad is "vowing to fight 'tooth and nail' after receiving a letter from the state's Department of Revenue revoking Minocqua Brewing Co.'s permit to operate in Wisconsin, according to a July 26 newsletter sent to his supporters."
"As you can imagine, I'm not taking this lying down," Bangstad wrote in a Substack post on Sunday. "We're going to fight the state of Wisconsin tooth and nail, and once again, they'll have to pry me out of my taprooms before I stop selling beer to thirsty progressives who come to visit us."

The Los Angeles Chargers quarterback and Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter Madison Beer jointly announced their engagement in an Instagram post Tuesday. It was accompanied by a photo of Herbert on bended knee holding a ring box in front of a smiling Beer, who was crouched with her right hand on his left knee. The caption read, "Meet my fiancé."
The congratulatory responses included ones from the NFL and the Chargers, as well as singer Gracie Abrams.

128-year-old beer, wine, and spirits distributor Republic National Distributing Company was a major company affected as it filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection, seeking going concern sales of its remaining ****** ets, a wind down of operations, completion of transition services agreements, and approval of its equity holder settlement.
National Distributing Company Inc. is not a part of the Chapter 11 filing, the company said in a statement on its website.
A company spokesperson was not immediately available for comment.
Republic National Distributing Company filed its petition as its business's financial position deteriorated after the Covid-19 pandemic subsided in late 2022 and demand for off-premises alcohol consumption plummeted.

So, where does the chant rank among NFL stadium chants? Sports Illustrated's Karl Rasmussen ranked the 10 best in the NFL, with the "Who Dey!" chant checking in at No. 6. If you've ever wondered how the "Who Dey!" chant came to be, here's how, according to Rasmussen:
The Bengals' chant originated in 1981, stemming from a popular local car commercial and a beloved beer, Hudepohl. Beer vendors at the team's former stomping grounds, Riverfront Stadium, used to offer the local beer by shouting "Hudy!" to fans. That eventually transitioned to "Who Dey," and it evolved further after fans incorporated the song played in commercials by Red Frazier's Ford of Cincinnati, which goes, "Who's going to give you a better deal than Red Frazier … ******* ody!" The combination of both resulted in the Bengals chant. "Who dey? Who dey? Who dey say is gonna beat the Bengals? … ******* ody!"

Earlier this season Xander Schauffele's consecutive cuts made streak ended at 72. A couple of weeks ago, Scottie Scheffler was the PGA Tour active leader at 78 when that ended at the Scottish Open. A week later at the British, Matt Fitzpatrick at 28 was the leader in the category but that was short-lived as he missed the weekend.
Heading into the 3M Open, Hideki Matsuyama was the active leader with 28 straight made cuts. Through 27 holes at TPC Twin Cities, the ***** anese start was 2 under overall and on the wrong side of the projected cut of 3 under, putting him in danger of being the latest cuts made leader to come up short.
But he flipped the script after making birdies on Nos. 10, 12, 13 and 14. His 2 on the par-3 13th also won the fans over as there was a promotion on Friday whereby beers would be half-price at the concession stand near the 13th hole for 10 minutes after any birdie. It didn't take long for a long line to form.
What about those on the wrong side of the cut?

Africa went against the grain of falling global beer production in 2025, data compiled by major hop supplier BarthHaas shows.
In a report issued by BarthHaas yesterday (21 July), BarthHaas said output fell 0.7% last year to just below 1.9bn hectolitres.
Production in each of Europe, the Americas, Asia and Oceania declined in 2025, although more beer was brewed in Africa, BarthHaas said.
Output in Africa, boosted by production in South Africa, grew 2.6% to 166.7 million hectolitres (mhl).
The picture across the Americas was mixed, with output in North America down 1.9% but rising in Central and South America by 1.3% and 1.7% respectively, the data showed.

Danny Orr’s stomach churned with nervous excitement last Saturday throughout his short walk from his hotel to London Stadium.
He downed a beer soon after making it inside, but even that did little to ease his growing anxiety.
Orr is the senior director of footwear innovation at Brooks Running, a Seattle-based company that specializes in performance running shoes and apparel. He had traveled to London to learn in person whether the most audacious marketing campaign the company had ever undertaken would turn out to be a strategic masterstroke or an ill-conceived misstep.
On March 28, Brooks-sponsored runner Josh Kerr declared his intent to run the mile faster than any human in history. With the help of a custom-made pair of Brooks spikes and a one-of-a-kind speedsuit that the company was engineering, the Scottish middle-distance star hoped to take down a world record that had stood for 27 years in front of 60,000-plus fans at the prestigious London Diamond League meet.
“Project 222” is what Brooks named the campaign, a reference to the 222 seconds it takes to run a 3:42 mile. That’s how fast Kerr would need to go to supplant Morocco’s Hicham El Guerrouj, who on July 7, 1999, at Rome’s Stadio Olimpico ran a time of 3:43.13 to become the reigning king of the mile.

Garrett Crochet didn’t choose to come to Boston, but he did choose to stay here. After making just one start as a member of the Red Sox (on the road in Texas), Crochet signed a six-year contract extension to remain with the organization through at least 2030. He was a standout on the field in his first season with the team, and while he hasn’t been able to replicate that this season, he’s working to endear himself to the community by partnering with Sam Adams for the release of Crochet’s Pale Ale, which is on tap at bars, taprooms and restaurants in the New England area and available as part of the “Our City. Our Beer” variety pack.
“A big thing for me was ingraining myself in the Boston culture, and Sam Adams is really that to a T,” Crochet said.
He isn’t wrong. When the Scots descended upon Boston for the World Cup, they drank the Sam Adams Downtown Taproom out of Boston Lager. He’s also made a habit of dominating the Yankees. In four regular season starts, he’s posted a 3.29 ERA and a 36.8% strikeout rate, as well as 7.2 innings of one-run baseball in the postseason. I conducted the interview from a hotel room in Milwaukee while on a bachelor party, and joked that the bachelor was upset with Crochet for hurting his family team. Crochet apologized but quickly rescinded it upon learning that the bachelor is a Yankees fan.
Crochet hasn’t pitched since April, but the rotation has picked up the slack in his absence. That rotation is comprised largely of huge, left-handed pitchers. Each arm is different, but Payton Tolle, Connelly Early, Ranger Suarez, and Jake Bennett all come armed with a four-seam fastball, cutter/slider, and some kind of breaking ball. Crochet’s best utilized standing on the mound, but because of the similarities with his teammates, he’s able to contribute from the bench.
“There’s much more benefit to the eye test that goes on during a series,” Crochet said. “We’re playing three or four game series and it’s all lefties that we’re rolling out there, so it’s fun to watch … When a guy is in the middle of his start I’m not passing any information, you know, he went into today prepared ready to make the start and has all the information that he feels he needs to have success … if I think someone is really looking not good on the changeup, I think me and Tolle have a little bit more room to exploit [the changeup] given that other teams aren’t planning for it at all against us.”

The Orioles found a way to avoid a complete disaster of a series in Boston by winning the second game of yesterday’s doubleheader, in the process stopping the Red Sox from setting a new franchise record for longest winning streak. The first game of the doubleheader was almost as bad as the first one was good. Splitting the doubleheader leaves the Orioles at 50-53 on the season, three games out of the third wild card spot with two teams to pass. Those teams are the Red Sox and Mariners, each of whom currently holds the head-to-head tiebreaker over the Orioles. They are in better shape than they were before the seven-game winning streak. They have, for now, passed a lot of the other fringe contenders who were in their way. That’s worth something. I don’t know if it will end up being worth enough.
There are nine games left to play before the August trade deadline. What kind of record do the Orioles need between now and then to have it where you definitely think they need to push the chips in for this year? More importantly, where do the Orioles even have an opportunity to buy?
On the other side, what record would send you into “sell-off” territory? It’s tough to feel like there should be any buying when the team is three games below .500. It’s also tough to contemplate the team being dismantled when the team is three games out of a playoff spot.

The tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite (^IXIC) jumped 1.3% as semiconductor names took center stage ahead of Big Tech results this week. The Dow Jones Industrial Average (^DJI) moved up more than 0.7%, while the S&P 500 (^GSPC) gained 0.9% after stocks slipped on Monday amid rising US-Iran tensions.
Chip stocks saw another surge on Tuesday morning, echoing a rally in Asia, after the sector attempted a recovery at the start of the week. Nvidia (NVDA) shares climbed almost 2% after the AI chipmaker revealed it has taken a stake in neocloud provider Nebius (NBIS).
Tech optimism helped offset uncertainty surrounding US trade policy and the war in Iran. On Monday, President Trump unveiled a new raft of 50% tariffs on an array of Canadian goods, including beer, hockey sticks, milk, and chemicals, that risk rekindling a ***** -for-tat trade war between the countries. The tariffs are expected to take effect in 30 days after the US accused Canada of "discrimination" in its trading practices.
Notably, the White House exempted Canadian oil imports from the tariffs, which come as crude oil prices trade at their highest level since mid-June. Oil prices eased slightly on Tuesday morning after the latest flare-up in the US-Iran war drove Brent crude (BZ=F) prices, the international benchmark, back above $91 per barrel.

The Chicago Cubs have declined to take action following a viral video showing a fan smacking another fan in the head for not standing during the national anthem.
The video, apparently taken before Sunday’s game at Wrigley Field agains the Minnesota Twins, shows the man in question appearing to berate the younger fan then slap him in the back of the head upon being rebuffed. The younger fan then stands up.
The video made the rounds online over the course of Monday and Tuesday, with predictable battles lines drawn. However, the older fan told Inside Edition on Tuesday that he “definitely” wishes he could take the smack back and revealed the other fan made peace with him over beers:
"Even though I fought in Vietnam and I had buddies killed, we fight for the rights of people and that’s one of his rights. Then later on during the game, next thing you know, he’s buying me a beer. We talk, we shook hands. I overreacted. I could’ve handled it better. I wish I would have. But my feelings are still the same: people should stand."
The Cubs officially responded to the matter on Tuesday with a statement, via NBC Chicago. The club confirmed it prohibits any physical confrontation between fans and that its security team spoke to the man who was struck. However, that man reportedly did not want any further action, such as an ejection.
