Election nights tend to rattle retirement savers, but Wall Street opened Wednesday more calmly. The SPDR S&P 500 ETF Trust (NYSEARCA:SPY), the most widely held stand-in for the benchmark S&P 500, traded at $763.08 before the open on November 4. That was up 1.16% from its November 3 close of $754.35. Reuters reported that stocks rallied and the dollar dipped after what it called a Democratic midterm sweep. But one session tells a 401(k) holder very little. The more useful guide is how the index behaved in the weeks and months after past midterms. That record shows a steady winning run, along with a few sharp breaks.

Walmart is reworking an iconic piece of pop culture history to bolster its holiday marketing and a "Who Knew?" brand platform starring Walton Goggins. The goal is to offer a unified marketing push with multigenerational appeal throughout the crucial gift-giving season.
The retailer in the past ran separate campaigns around different legs of the holiday season, such as the ramp-up to Black Friday, but has leveraged "Who Knew?" to streamline its storytelling. "Who Knew?," which launched last year, was developed to dispel misperceptions about the brand and position it as more style- and trend-forward as Walmart wins over higher-income shoppers.
"The holidays are an incredibly cluttered period of time from an advertising standpoint, and so the ability to break through is really important," Walmart CMO William White said in an interview. "Having one [theme], one campaign throughout the season allows a really quick read for customers to know it's Walmart."

Uber Technologies Inc. (NYSE:UBER) has secured Madrid as the fourth city covered by its partnership with WeRide, bringing Spain into its rapidly expanding autonomous vehicle network. The company's broader AV strategy covers more than 30 partners, while Uber expects to commit more than $10 billion across AV investments, infrastructure, and vehicle offtake over the coming years. At the center of that strategy is Uber's decision not to build self-driving technology itself. Instead, the company wants to become the indispensable demand layer for whichever AV providers ultimately emerge as winners. Yet the diversification strategy is facing pressure in key areas. One of its most prominent AV partners is pulling back, while another remains under an active safety investigation.
Uber, WeRide, and AVOMO have secured Spain's first national permit covering level 4 autonomous passenger vehicles. The permit was issued by Spain's Directorate General of Traffic and allows the companies to begin deployment preparations on public roads in Madrid. Under the permit, WeRide can test its GXR vehicles and conduct roadmapping throughout Madrid in preparation for a commercial launch planned for year-end. The rollout will begin with 20 vehicles, each supervised by an in-car specialist, operating across high-demand areas of Greater Madrid. Madrid becomes the fourth city included in the Uber-WeRide partnership, which plans to reach 15 cities globally by 2030. The expansion also fits Uber's broader ******* et-light AV strategy, which includes more than 30 partnerships while Uber expects to commit over $10 billion across AV investments, infrastructure, and vehicle offtake over the coming years.
The diversification of Uber's AV network does not eliminate risks from individual partners. Uber and Waymo confirmed in late June that their Phoenix partnership had ended, while Waymo is reportedly considering a broader exit from its relationship with Uber. This comes even as Uber executives have publicly criticized Waymo's model while investing substantial capital in competing fleets. Avride is facing a separate challenge, with the NHTSA investigating the Uber AV partner after multiple crashes. At the same time, Tesla is ramping up its own Cybercab fleet, while Waymo has raised $16 billion to accelerate its independent growth. Together, these moves could reduce Waymo's reliance on Uber while increasing competitive pressure on Uber's AV platform.

WASHINGTON, Sept 16 (Reuters) - The U.S. International Development Finance Corp on Wednesday approved a $500 million trade financing facility that will help U.S. companies access emerging markets in ‌South America, Southeast Asia and Africa, the agency's chief executive, Ben Black, said.
The facility, ‌approved by the DFC's board, will offer counter-guarantees in partnership with the World Bank's International Finance Corp, its private-sector arm, and its Global Trade Finance Program, Black told Reuters.
"The goal is trying to expand the program and further grow U.S. exports," he said in an interview.
Under Black's leadership, DFC has expanded its investment cap to $205 billion and shifted its focus from traditional poverty alleviation toward mining, extractive industries, energy and digital infrastructure, ‌with an eye to countering China's global influence and securing vital supply chains for the U.S.

The pre-market for Amazon looks a bit bullish, although I wouldn't call it overly bullish. We are in an area that should be interesting for technical traders, though, as the last earnings call produced a massive gap and we find ourselves at the 61.8% Fibonacci retracement level.
We are getting close to an oversold condition in the stochastic oscillator, and the 10-year yield is now at 5% again, so that has its own part to play here.
I do think we have a situation where traders continue to look at this as a potential value play, but it is also going to be heavily influenced by the U.S. consumer and how it is feeling. Interest rates rising and inflation rising are not good things, but so far it looks like we are at least finding some type of support.
Walmart is doing very little in pre-market trading. It is currently finding the 50-day EMA as a potential barrier, and as a result, it might be worth looking at this through the prism of whether or not we can get above there. We are in the overbought condition in the stochastic oscillator, so maybe a little bit more consolidation. That would not be overly surprising because after all, most of the day is going to be waiting around for the Federal Reserve interest rate decision, and perhaps more important than that will be the press conference.
Target looks as if it is going to basically open up where it closed during the previous session, which was pretty ugly for Target. We are sitting just above the 50-day EMA, and it is in a nice uptrend. We are oversold in the stochastic oscillator now, so I'll be looking for some type of bounce.

Kimberly-Clark Corporation (NASDAQ:KMB) is preparing ***** et sales to address EU antitrust concerns surrounding its planned $40 billion acquisition of Kenvue, according to Reuters. The company is reportedly seeking to offer remedies that could secure European Commission approval by the September 29 deadline, avoiding a more extensive four-month investigation. Similar regulatory concerns have already emerged in Australia, where the deal received conditional approval after Kimberly-Clark agreed to divest Kenvue's Carefree and Stayfree brands.
The transaction is strategically important because it would create a consumer-health and personal-care company with approximately $32 billion of annual revenue and $7 billion of adjusted EBITDA. Kimberly-Clark Corporation (NASDAQ:KMB) expects about $1.9 billion of annual cost synergies and $500 million of revenue synergies, although it expects to invest roughly $2.5 billion in cash to achieve the cost savings. Therefore, the scale of any EU divestitures will be critical to determining whether Kimberly-Clark can retain the expected economic benefits of the deal.
The strongest bullish argument is that Kimberly-Clark Corporation (NASDAQ:KMB) is actively working toward a regulatory solution rather than allowing the EU review to threaten the transaction. If the company can satisfy regulators through limited ***** et sales, it could preserve the majority of Kenvue's revenue and earnings while moving ahead with the combination. The expected $1.9 billion in annual cost savings represents a substantial earnings opportunity relative to the combined company's roughly $7 billion adjusted EBITDA target, giving Kimberly-Clark significant potential to improve margins and cash generation after integration.
The Australian precedent also suggests that targeted divestitures could be sufficient to resolve competition concerns without materially undermining the broader deal. Securing EU approval by September 29 would be particularly positive because it would remove a major source of uncertainty and allow Kimberly-Clark Corporation (NASDAQ:KMB) to focus on integration and synergy execution. With Kenvue adding major brands across consumer health and personal care, successful completion could also broaden Kimberly-Clark's portfolio and reduce its reliance on its existing product categories.
The biggest risk is that the EU requires more substantial ***** et sales than Kimberly-Clark Corporation (NASDAQ:KMB) currently expects. Giving up attractive Kenvue brands or businesses in Europe could reduce the revenue and EBITDA acquired through the transaction, while Kimberly-Clark would still have to bear much of the financing, transaction, and integration burden. That could make the $40 billion purchase price less attractive on a risk-adjusted basis, particularly if the divested ***** ets are among Kenvue's stronger European businesses.

Ryanair, the biggest low-fare airline in Europe, on Wednesday lowered its winter traffic target to reduce exposure to high unhedged oil prices, and warned the some of its less well-hedged competitors could struggle to survive this winter amid high fuel costs.
Since the Iran war slashed deliveries of crude oil and petroleum products from the Middle East, rising jet fuel prices have eaten into the profitability of all airlines globally.
Ryanair is one of the most hedged airlines, with about 80% of fuel costs hedged at $67 per barrel. However, the remaining unhedged 20% is highly exposed to the jet fuel prices currently trading at about $140 per barrel, Ryanair said in its August 2026 traffic stats.
In light of the high unhedged oil prices, "it is sensible to strategically reduce the Group's exposure to unhedged jet fuel during the unprofitable winter schedule (from Nov. to Mar.)," the budget airline said.
Ryanair cut its winter traffic target to 214 million from 216 million passengers, expecting traffic to be broadly flat year-over-year.

Kraken, which isn't publicly traded but has filed the regulatory documentation necessary for an IPO, announced the Krak Card last week. The company's timing was fortuitous. The day after it formally announced its product, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said the Treasury would, at a minimum, double its regular repurchases of relatively long-term government debt securities.

The wars in Iran and Ukraine are turning into a money-making opportunity for Indian and U.S. oil refiners as traditional global supply chains get jammed up. These refiners are running near capacity and subbing for Russian and Gulf oil in Asia, Europe and Latin America. In exchange, they're minting billions of dollars in export income.
Washington and New Delhi might have their own squabbles over oil, but that's not stopping either from sitting on an export windfall worth billions of dollars, mostly from selling heating oil and diesel.
U.S. refiners exported diesel and heating oil at a record 1.9 million barrels per day in the week ending August 7. Also, jet fuel exports of 443,000 bpd were just below May's record of 455,000 bpd.
Brazil, historically a top buyer of Russian diesel, imported 196,000 bpd of U.S. diesel last month, more than double June's volume, after Moscow extended its fuel-export ban to January 2027, according to Kpler vessel-tracking data.

Cybersecurity company Mitek Systems (MITK) is seeing the proliferation of artificial intelligence as a business advantage, and its stock is headed toward a buy point amid a year of outperformance over other technology names.
The small-cap company sells verification, authentication and fraud-prevention products. On its website, Mitek touts American Express (AXP), Experian and Intuit (INTU) among its more than 7,000 customers.
The stock has a solid IBD Composite Rating of 94 and has climbed more than 80% during 2026. A recent beat-and-raise financial report helped propel shares toward an entry in a forming cup base.
Mitek shares bulked up nearly 5% in the past week. Further, the weekly chart showed them edging above their 10-week moving average. Trading above 19 on Friday, the stock was nearer to an ideal cup-base buy point of 21.05 set on July 1.
Shares started building the right side of a cup base since a July drag-down with a wider downturn in technology names. Tech stocks got rattled in part by concerns about rising corporate capital expenditures for artificial intelligence. Software stocks in particular this year have been swamped by worries about competition threats from AI tools.

CFOs and treasury professionals are looking for more transparency and visibility when it comes to their payment and treasury systems in an age where companies are increasingly required to conduct their business in real-time, with faster, more data-saturated systems.
For finance chiefs, incorporating new payment rails or solutions is a balancing act: On the one hand, they want to reduce manual work for their teams, which is increasingly a cause for friction, but on the other hand, "certainly, there's always concern about resiliency in their own systems," said Richard Dooley, VP of Product Commercialization at payments company The Clearing House.
"Less friction in their processes, whether it's the payment process, the liquidity visibility process, obviously their AP and AR processes, that's always a top-of-mind issue," Dooley told CFO Dive regarding how executives are considering innovation. "How do they get greater visibility into what they're doing, into what's happening?"
In Dooley's experience, when it comes to what treasurers want out of their payment rails, visibility is key, he said—more insight into the payment data can help companies identify when something is a timing problem, versus a problem of liquidity, for instance, he said.

Shares of ASML (NASDAQ: ASML) fell after technology publication The Information reported this week that an unnamed Chinese company backed by the Chinese government has begun manufacturing its own chip-making equipment. However, investors shouldn't be worried, as this is unlikely to hurt ASML's fortunes any time soon.
The machines reportedly being made in China are deep ultraviolet (DUV) lithography machines. This is an older technology used to manufacture older chips and the less critical components of advanced chips. DUV machines are also used to manufacture ordinary DRAM and flash memory. While ASML is a top supplier of DUV machines by a wide margin, it is not the only company that makes these machines. ***** anese companies Nikon and Canon also supply them.
Missed Nvidia in 2009? This Rare Signal Is Flashing Again. In 2009, a "Double Down" signal flashed for a little-known chipmaker called Nvidia. For the first time in years, that same "Total Conviction" signal is flashing for a company 1/100th the size of Nvidia. Continue »
What separates ASML from the pack, though, is that it is the only company in the world with EUV (extreme ultraviolet lithography) technology, which is needed to make advanced logic chips and is also used to make high-bandwidth memory (HBM). These are extremely complex machines, and competitors outside China have largely given up trying to replicate the technology. These are also the machines that drive ASML's growth. EUV machines can cost more than $220 million apiece, while DUV machines can cost as little as $5 million, with higher-end advanced immersion DUV machines running closer to $90 million.
While a loss of DUV sales to China could impact ASML's revenue, the region now accounts for a smaller share of its overall revenue. The company is restricted from selling EUV and advanced DUV machines to China and is only allowed to sell older-technology systems to Chinese companies. As such, only about 14% of its sales came from the country last quarter. Meanwhile, there was already a bill in Congress set to prevent ASML from selling or servicing machines for the first three Chinese companies expected to receive these homegrown DUV machines, so this revenue was likely to be cut off regardless.

(By Oil & Gas 360) – For decades, the United States measured energy security by asking whether America could produce enough oil.
The shale revolution largely answered that question. The United States became the world's largest producer of crude oil and natural gas, reducing import dependence and reshaping global energy markets. But production is only one part of the system. Crude still must be transported, processed, and converted into gasoline, diesel, jet fuel, and petrochemicals.
That raises another question:
Who owns America's refining advantage, and whose capital will determine its future?
The issue becomes more important whenever tensions rise around the Strait of Hormuz. A disruption there can quickly lift crude prices, tanker rates, insurance costs, and refined product prices around the world.

If the team determines that the range of outcomes has narrowed enough for promotion to a resilient position, we add capital; otherwise, we trim the position back to optionality. While we might leave incremental upside on the table, we believe this strict reduction in overactive stocks with wide ranging outcomes allows us to continue benefiting from further upside without letting risk run. This quarter, the portfolio had five positions that worked their way into the middle – a few even ran all the way through the middle in a single day. This situation is unusual and perhaps symptomatic of the volatility in the market. In the cases of ARM Holdings, Marvell Technology, Inc. (NASDAQ:MRVL), Lattice Semiconductor, and Snowflake, we trimmed the positions back to optionality. For example, Marvell rallied significantly after Jensen Huang extolled the company as "the next trillion-dollar company" on stage at Computex in Taiwan. While we agree it's within the range of outcomes, in our view, Jensen's statement only resulted in the market applying a higher valuation to a stock whose fundamental range of outcomes remained unchanged; thus, we trimmed Marvell."
