The San Francisco Giants have endured the bad, the worse and the ugly throughout a 2026 campaign that started with high hopes and landed with bleak realities.
The Giants have been among the most disappointing teams in Major League Baseball this season. There was optimism in San Francisco when the team brought in first-year manager Tony Vitello from the college ranks with no previous MLB experience. Many experts predicted that the Giants would win 82 games and maybe even sneak into a wild-card berth. It would have been the most success the team has seen in nearly a half decade.
Then the season began and things shifted immediately. San Francisco isn't anywhere near discussions of making a postseason appearance. Instead, the Giants have the second-worst record in the National League (only the division-rival Colorado Rockies have a worse record).
The Giants haven't had the play they were expecting on the diamond. The Giants lacked depth in the bullpen, dealt with a series of injuries which contorted lineups, and key players just looked like a shell of themselves through large parts of the season. Vitello has been ejected from multiple games this season. Frustration has settled in San Francisco like fog covering the Golden Gate Bridge.
It's since seemed like a salvageable season after seeing younger prospects such as Bryce Eldridge see the field more. After a sluggish start, Rafael Devers found his bat as of late and is nearing a 40-homer season. There are few positive takeaways from the Giants this year, which leaves a little excitement for the next season.

The latest word is that Cardiff, which was always sort of a darkhorse contender to host the fight, is the new frontrunner, and we may actually get this deal done and see the fight happen. Principality Stadium has a roof, so weather won't be a concern for the fight itself.
Joshua (30-4, 27 KO) has fought at the venue before, beating Carlos Takam there in 2017 and Joseph Parker in 2018. He's 3-0 in Cardiff as a pro, having also defeated Dorian Darch at Cardiff International Arena in 2014. Fury (36-2-1, 25 KO) has never fought in Cardiff, but has stated repeatedly during the drama around this fight that he was willing to go anywhere.

Aaron Judge continues to stay busy for the Yankees as he works his way back from a fractured rib that has had him on the IL since June 2.
Prior to their series finale against the San Diego Padres on Sunday, manager Aaron Boone told the media that the plan is still for Judge to face live pitching on Monday at Yankee Stadium, although the pitchers have yet to be determined.
Judge checked off another box earlier in the week by taking batting practice swings with the rest of the team while on their West Coast road trip and is nearing his long-awaited return.
New York comes back to the Bronx following Sunday's game and has an off day on Monday before beginning a six-game homestand against the Colorado Rockies and Mets starting on Tuesday night.

On August 25, Qfin Holdings (NASDAQ:QFIN) reported second-quarter results that tell two very different stories at once. Total loan volume fell 25.1% year over year to RMB63,377 million, and non-GAAP net income dropped to RMB454.9 million from RMB946 million just one quarter earlier. Non-GAAP earnings per diluted ADS sank to RMB3.72 from RMB7.70. But buried in the same release, revenue from the company's technology solutions business jumped more than sixfold, and management laid out plans to turn Qfin into what it calls an AI-native lender. Investors have to weigh both halves of that picture.
The clearest growth story sits inside Qfin's tech solutions arm. Loan volume tied to that unit hit RMB10.5 billion for the quarter, up 515% from a year earlier, while the outstanding balance climbed to roughly RMB16.1 billion, up 313%. Through its FocusPRO platform, Qfin now helps banks serve borrowers priced between 3% and 12%, a segment its own consumer lending rarely touches. During the quarter, the company signed two new AI agent projects with banking partners, one built to support loan officers from lead identification through conversion, the other aimed at SME credit review and approval. CEO Wu Haisheng framed the effort as an organizational shift, saying it is "about turning individual and team experience into shared reusable organizational capabilities."
Risk metrics also moved in the right direction during the quarter itself. The 30-day collection rate rose to 88.1%, up 2.3 percentage points sequentially, while the C-M2 delinquency ratio fell 17% sequentially to 0.66%, nearing year-ago levels. The 90-day delinquency rate dropped to 2.83% from 3.5%. On the funding side, ABS issuance jumped 90% sequentially to RMB5.5 billion while issuance costs fell roughly 20 basis points, and overall funding costs eased about 10 basis points as the company leaned on a track record of stable ******* et performance. Qfin also paid a semiannual dividend of $0.46 per ADS, a payout ratio near 30%, and had repurchased $7 million of stock before pausing the buyback program.
Every one of those quarterly improvements sits next to a much rougher backdrop. Sales and marketing spending fell 13% sequentially as Qfin pulled back on growth, and new credit line users fell to 830,000, down from 1.19 million a quarter earlier. New loan provisions hit RMB1.72 billion, a booking ratio of 5.36%, the highest on record. A one-off RMB500 million tax expense tied to a change in tax treatment pushed the effective tax rate to 60.3%, though management expects it to settle near 20% going forward.

Chevron will invest more than $7 billion in Venezuela over the next five years and more than double its oil production in the country to about 600,000 barrels per day, Reuters reported Wednesday.
The investment follows new agreements with Venezuela that give Chevron improved fiscal, commercial and legal terms and additional acreage in the Orinoco Belt. Chevron said its three Venezuelan joint ventures will invest the money through 2031, with total production costs remaining below $20 per barrel.
Chevron currently produces about 290,000 bpd in Venezuela, all of which is exported to the United States, according to Reuters. Venezuela is producing about 1.1 million to 1.2 million bpd, down from more than 3 million bpd in the late 1990s.
The new acreage includes the Carabobo-1 and Carabobo-2-South-A areas in the Orinoco Belt, ******* igned to Petroindependencia, the joint venture in which Chevron holds a 49% interest. Chevron also increased its Petroindependencia stake to 49% in April and received rights to develop the Ayacucho 8 area next to its Petropiar venture. Its three Venezuelan joint ventures have increased production by 15% so far this year.
Wednesday's announcement puts a dollar figure and production target on the Chevron agreements that were nearing completion earlier this week. Those agreements were previously described only as being of "significant size," with Chevron seeking additional Orinoco Belt acreage.

Howie Roseman did not close the door on a Zach Ertz reunion, but he also made it clear that the organization likes its current tight end group. Following the Eagles' 53-man roster cuts, Jimmy Kempski of Philly Voice asked Roseman whether the Eagles had spoken with Ertz or had interest in bringing the veteran back to Philadelphia.
"First, I'd say what an unbelievable player, what an unbelievable person, tremendous respect for him," Roseman said. "At the same time, love what we have going in our tight end room, too."
Ertz is nearing the nine-month point in his recovery from a significant knee injury. Nothing appears imminent, although Philadelphia has maintained contact with one of the most accomplished tight ends in franchise history.

Serie A side Roma had been working on a move for Stuttgart's Jamie Leweling in the last few days. Just when they seemed to be making progress in the deal, it appears they will now definitely miss out.
Alfredo Pedulla reported earlier today that the Giallorossi made a fresh push for the German, who had previously not given a greenlight to the deal. Roma had earlier reached an agreement with Stuttgart but the player's decision had held the move back.
Now, Gianluca Di Marzio has reported updates, making it clear that there isn't enough time to complete the deal.
Roma were anyway facing a race against time to seal the move. But now, there is certainty the versatile winger will stay at the German club.

Newcastle United's search for an additional attacking reinforcement is showing no signs of slowing down, with Matthias Jaissle's side exploring several possibilities as the transfer window enters its final stretch.

Salesforce (NYSE:CRM) spent its fiscal 2027 second quarter proving a point it has been arguing for months: that artificial intelligence is expanding its business rather than replacing it. The company used its August 26 earnings call to unveil Claudeforce, a joint product with Anthropic that layers Claude's reasoning on top of Salesforce's customer data, while posting numbers that gave management fresh ammunition against the idea that AI agents make traditional software obsolete.
The headline metric was Agentforce annual recurring revenue crossing $1.5 billion, up more than 240% year over year, with AI and data ARR nearing $3.9 billion after growing over 210%. That growth showed up in usage too. Customers generated 3.2 billion Agentic Work Units in the quarter, a 97% jump from the prior quarter, and agentic activity through Model Context Protocol and Claude calls surged sixfold as customers moved past standard software interfaces.
Slackbot became the company's fastest adopted AI product ever, reaching 1 million active users just five months after launch and growing 150% quarter over quarter. Current remaining performance obligation climbed 14% in constant currency to $33.5 billion, a point ahead of guidance, while net new annual order value growth hit its strongest level in four years. Bookings from the premium Agentforce 1 Edition and Agentforce for Apps bundles more than doubled from the prior quarter, and contract terms lengthened across every segment.
On the data side, the Data 360 platform ingested 104 trillion records, up 355% year over year, with Zero Copy architecture usage climbing 731%. Nine of the top 10 AI companies now run on Salesforce and Slack, and their combined spending rose 435% year over year, a detail management used to argue that frontier AI firms depend on CRM infrastructure rather than displacing it. Free cash flow reached $1.1 billion, up 81% year over year, and the U.S. Army expanded its contract to potentially drive up to 55 million monthly Agentforce conversations.
Not every line told a clean growth story. Non-GAAP operating margin actually slipped slightly to 34.1% from 34.3% a year earlier, even as revenue and earnings per share climbed. Overall revenue growth remained a comparatively modest 11%, and management pointed to continued volatility in licensed revenue within its integration and ****** ytics segments, even as Slack and Agentforce carried the results. The raised full-year guidance also comes with an asterisk. Of the $300 million constant currency increase to fiscal 2027 revenue guidance, only $100 million reflects organic momentum, while $200 million depends on the anticipated closings of the Contentful and Fin acquisitions in the coming weeks, deals that have not yet closed.

Fourteen games elapsed without an Astros starter finishing six innings before Hunter Brown took the mound at Citi Field on Friday. Half of those games saw their starter work 4 ⅓ innings or fewer, taxing a bullpen showing signs of strain. The rotation posted a 5.64 ERA in that span. Just two teams had a higher one.
The formula feels unsustainable for a team with playoff aspirations, but nor are solutions apparent for this team's pitching instability. Houston has three starters in which it shows trust. One, Peter Lambert, already is nearing a career-high innings total. Another, Hayden Wesneski, has not surpassed 91 pitches yet in six starts back from elbow surgery.
With both Cristian Javier and Tatsuya Imai - the two highest-paid starters on their roster - rested, the Astros will deploy an opener Saturday against the Mets. The WNBA regular season is nearing its end, but before the league's best players take center stage for the playoffs, many will turn their attention to the FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup.
ESPN published a list Thursday of the 50 best WNBA players ahead of the international break. The list includes several former UConn women's basketball stars and a promising Connecticut Sun youngster.

Rick Barnes continues to weave his Tennessee basketball team together through summer practices, trying to build some chemistry as each new face learns the system. Two of those key guards have yet to take part in those practices, however, both battling through injuries.
Tyler Lundblade, Tennessee's first pull out of the transfer portal, has been sidelined with a back injury. Barnes has said the Volunteers are being cautious with him, but he's nearing being back to full strength.
"As with Tyler, he's just putting one foot in front of the other, step by step, just trying to continue to improve, and just work towards getting healthy," Tennessee **** istant coach Amarrow Morgan said today. "He's very close to being there, for sure."
Lundblade shot 43 percent from three-point range last season at Belmont, scoring over 15 points per game. The 6-5 shooting guard was named the Missouri Valley Conference player of the year.
Another guy nearing full strength is Troy Henderson, who returns to Tennessee for his sophomore season. Henderson has been dealing with a shoulder issue that dates back to last season.

When the Philadelphia 76ers pay a visit to Scotiabank Arena on Jan. 10 to take on the Toronto Raptors, it will mean much more than just a regular season game in January. The Raptors will honor an all-time franchise great while taking on the final team he played for.
The Raptors announced that on that night, they will retire Kyle Lowry's No. 7 uniform.
After 20 seasons in the league, including nine with the Raptors and the final two and a half with the Sixers, Lowry hung up his sneakers with career averages of 13.8 points, 6.0 ***** ists, and 4.2 rebounds. He was a 6-time All-Star and led Toronto to a championship, alongside current Sixers coach Nick Nurse, in 2019, and is considered the greatest Raptor of all time.
Lowry's greatest contributions to the Sixers were his mentorship to young players like Tyrese Maxey and VJ Edgecombe. He was nearing the end of his brilliant career by then and wanted to pass down his knowledge to those youngsters to help them take steps forward in his career.

Tokio Marine is nearing what would be its largest-ever acquisition, with Suncorp now the preferred target after months spent weighing rival prospects in Australia and Canada, the Financial Times reported.
The push for an overseas takeover by the Berkshire Hathaway-backed ****** anese insurer is part of a broader strategy under CEO Masahiro Koike to expand the group's footprint beyond its domestic market.
Tokio Marine had reportedly been weighing several options including Australia's Insurance Australia Group (IAG) and Suncorp, alongside Canada's Intact Financial Corporation.
Suncorp and IAG are valued at approximately $14bn (A$19.55bn) and $13bn, respectively, whilst Intact carries a market value of around $34bn (C$47.08bn).
According to sources cited in the report, Intact was dropped from consideration on account of its size, leaving Suncorp as the frontrunner.

Shohei Ohtani appears to be on the verge of making his return as a pitcher for the Los Angeles Dodgers. Like his comeback from internal brace surgery last year, it will be with baby steps.
Ohtani will throw a bullpen session on Friday and, if all goes well, could make a start on Sunday against the Detroit Tigers, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts told reporters via Jack Harris of the California Post. That start would see Ohtani throw only one inning, as an opener.
Tyler Glasnow reportedly remains scheduled to pitch Sunday after returning from back spasms on Tuesday. If Ohtani gets the start, he will be work as the bulk guy behind the opener. If Ohtani isn't ready, it would be a traditional start.
Ohtani has not pitched since July 3 due to a knee issue that has also caused a minor problem with his biceps. He has continued to play nearly every day as a designated hitter and remains locked in a race for NL MVP with Chicago Cubs outfielder Pete Crow-Armstrong.

OGC Nice have permitted Mohamed-Ali Cho to undergo a medical at Hull City, as per a report from Nice-Matin.
It was reported by Fabrizio Romano over the weekend that a club-to-club agreement had been reached for the transfer of the French forward. The Italian journalist understands that the deal is worth €15m, including add-ons. That deal was struck following weeks of negotiations. At one point, talks had reached a dead end, prior to a breakthrough last week.
Cho is one of several players that Nice, in desperate need of players this summer, had identified as bankable. The Frenchman was a regular for Le Gym last season and was also included in the club's Ligue 1 opener, against FC Lorient, on Sunday, albeit not as a starter.
The former SCO Angers forward has now been permitted to travel to England in order to undergo a medical. A departure is, therfore, nearing, and a welcome one as far as Nice are concerned.

Brent crude futures settled down $2.22, or ‌2.35%, to $92.17, while U.S. West Texas Intermediate crude fell $2.05 a barrel, down 2.35% at $85.01.
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent on ‌Monday announced an expansion of secondary sanctions it can impose on entities and countries that maintain business ties with Iran around the world as Washington significantly ratchets up economic pressure on Tehran with the war nearing its 6-month mark. This followed Trump's threats of "economic warfare and isolation on an unprecedented scale" against Tehran last week.
"There is not much new that came out of Bessent's commentary, beyond what was telegraphed in advance," said Raymond James Investment Strategy ****** yst Pavel Molchanov. The oil market having rallied quite a bit last week, saw profit taking ‌today, he added.
