Newcastle United have signed forward Matias Fernandez-Pardo from Lille for an initial £51.4m.
Fernandez-Pardo flew into Tyneside on Monday night to have a medical and sign a long-term contract.
The 21-year-old said he was "very proud to be at such a big club" following talks with head coach Matthias Jaissle.
"He really showed how much he wanted me to be here," the Belgium international said.
"In terms of my own career progression, it made complete sense to come so I didn't hesitate at all.

Newcastle United's search for an additional attacking reinforcement is showing no signs of slowing down, with Matthias Jaissle's side exploring several possibilities as the transfer window enters its final stretch.
Matias Fernandez-Pardo remains the No. 1 target, with Newcastle nearing an agreement with Lille, but the Magpies could have turned their attention toward another versatile attacker from Italy's Serie A.
According to Foot Mercato's Santi Aouna, Newcastle is interested in Roma's Matias Soule and contact between the parties is already underway.
"Newcastle is interested in Matías Soulé of AS Roma," Aouna reported. "Contact is ongoing between the parties."
TEAMtalk's Graeme Bailey subsequently provided further details, reporting that Soule has been added to Newcastle's attacking shortlist alongside Fernandez-Pardo and Stuttgart's Bilal El Khannouss.

Roma head coach Gian Piero Gasperini has explained why Roma were able to pinch Marten De Roon from Atalanta in such quick fashion, has commented on the recent arrival of Leonardo Balerdi, but denies that there have been any formal approaches for Matias Soule.
The Giallorossi are having a busy end to the summer transfer window, with De Roon on his way over from Atalanta to reunite with Gasperini, and with the arrival of Balerdi from Marseille. Additionally, Neil El-Aynaoui looks set to join RB Leipzig, Soule has been linked with a move to the Premier League, while Gasp says that he still wants another two additions before the close of the summer transfer window on September 1.

Gasperini had an opportunity to discuss Roma's transfer business during his pre-match press conference on Sunday, ahead of his side's upcoming league clash away against Lecce on Monday evening.
"It was something that came about quickly," said Gasperini, discussing Roma's deal for long-term Atalanta servant De Roon.

Sunderland are accelerating their late-window business, with TeamTalk reporting that Igor Paixao is now one of the club's leading priorities as Regis Le Bris looks to sharpen his squad before the deadline. The headline detail is encouraging, "Personal terms are already in place" and an "overall fee is close to being agreed", even if Marseille are still trying to retain the Brazilian.
This feels like a significant push from Sunderland. The club have been clear in the market that they want added quality in the final third, and Paixao appears to be the name moving fastest. TeamTalk add that Marseille "need to raise funds to satisfy financial regulations" and that "Paixao's situation remains one to watch as Sunderland push to get the deal over the line". Those are the sort of conditions that can create an opportunity late in the window, provided negotiations remain steady.
There are, however, other attacking names under consideration. Sunderland "made an approach for Sporting winger Geny Catamo", but his "near-£50million asking price has so far put the Black Cats off making another move". The club have also "spoken to Roma about Matias Soule as they **** s alternatives before the window closes". Even so, the report is firm that "Paixao remains a key target".
Sunderland's work is not confined to the forward line. TeamTalk say the Black Cats "are also working on another central defender" and have "enquired about Tottenham's Kevin Danso". They have also "asked about Chelsea's Tosin Adarabioyo", with both players described as experienced options. There is competition, with Fulham also making checks, so this is a situation that may move quickly in the closing days.

Newcastle United are reportedly set to submit their final bid to LOSC Lille in their efforts to sign Matias Fernandez-Pardo (21), according to information from journalist Sacha Tavolieri.
After an initial bid of around €45m was dismissed by the Dogues' management, the Magpies are expected to return to the fray in the coming hours with an increased offer of €60m, including bonuses.
This sum could well prompt Olivier Létang, Lille's chairman – who had not necessarily intended to part ways with the Belgian winger before the transfer window closed – to reconsider his position. However, given Fernandez-Pardo's desire to leave France and the financial incentives put forward by Newcastle in their bid to secure his services, the situation could well be up in the air.
Regarded as one of LOSC's greatest talents, the 21-year-old Belgian international made 41 appearances in all competitions last season, finding the net eight times and providing seven **** ists.

Over the weekend, it was claimed that RB Leipzig had made an offer of up to €33 million, including bonuses, for Lille and Belgium forward Matias Fernandez-Pardo.
However, Sky Germany has since reported that the offer was deemed too low by Lille, who have "bigger offers on the table".
One of these offers has seemingly come from Newcastle, with L'Équipe reporting that the Magpies have tabled a €40 million bid for the 21-year-old Belgium international.
Time will tell whether that will be enough to convince Lille to sell – and whether Leipzig will be willing to raise their offer to that level.
As reported by Sky, Die Roten Bullen will pull out of the transfer if Lille's asking price becomes "exorbitant".

One player who signed for Liverpool this summer is reportedly attempting to persuade a defensive midfielder on the Reds' radar to join him at Anfield.
Last month, the Merseyside club confirmed that they'd agreed a deal to sign Colombian attacking midfielder Samuel Martinez from Atletico Nacional in his homeland, with the teenager moving to England next year after he's turned 18.
The youngster is now understood to have taken on some ad-hoc agency duties by trying to convince a friend of his to follow him to L4.
According to information shared on VBar Caracol (via Sport Witness), Liverpool sent scouts to watch Matias Orozco during Deportivo Cali's 2-2 draw against Inter de Bogota on Sunday, with the midfielder understood to have played well before being forced off with a minor injury in the second half.
During that livestream, it was claimed that Martinez has been trying to convince the 18-year-old (who's a close personal friend) to join the Reds.

Newcastle United have reportedly made a bid to sign promising Belgian forward Matías Fernández-Pardo.
French side Lille are keen to hang on to Fernández-Pardo but according to L'Equipe, the 21-year-old Belgian is keen to leave the club this summer after having previously been linked with a move to Atlético de Madrid.
The Magpies are said to have submitted a €40 million (approx £34.2 million) bid for the player who featured off the bench three times for Belgium at this summer's World Cup.
Fernández-Pardo initially joined Lille from Gent at the start of the 2024/25 season and has since featured 67 times for the club in all competitions, scoring 12 goals and making nine ****** ists.

RB Leipzig have officially submitted a bid worth €35m plus add-ons for 21-year-old Belgian forward Matias Fernandez-Pardo, according to Fabrizio Romano.Fernandez-Pardo can play as a center forward or as a winger on either side. He joined Lille from Gent in 2024 and has made 51 Ligue 1 appearances, scoring 12 goals and providing eight ****** ists. He has also represented the Belgium national team, making five appearances for The Red Devils after passing through the youth teams. Previously, the player had notified his club Lille that he wants to leave, but he was told that he won't be allowed to depart this summer unless a hefty offer is received.GGFN | Brook Genene
RB Leipzig seem to be strengthening their forward line, with Christopher Nkunku also set to return to the Bundesliga on loan with an option to buy. Leipzig sold 19-year-old talented winger Yan Diomande to Real Madrid for €125 m and are building their attack wisely following the mega deal. They will be hoping these possible additions, together with new head coach Martín Demichelis, will enable them to challenge for a top-four finish.

Whilst Bianconeri coach Luciano Spalletti is desperate to seize a new central midfielder to bring equilibrium to the core of the pitch, Juventus have now set their sights emerging candidate Matias Galazara of River Plate.
TuttoJuve reports that other than Franck Kessie and Tijjani Reijnders, the Turin based club have been monitoring the 22-year-old Paraguayan midfielder throughout the Fifa 2026 World Cup and are reportedly keeping their tabs open in regards to a potential swoop.
As it stands, the Italian tactician is eager to acquire a midfielder that is capable of organizing the attack, dictating the rhythm in possession and constructing the play whilst moving vertically. Hence, the Old Lady believe that the promising River Plate star fits the criteria and believe that a fee of €6m would be enough to persuade the Argentine outfits in permitting Galazara to depart the club in favour of joining the Italian giants.

Roma have set sights on both Endrick and Franco Mastantuono to complete their frontline. Gian Piero Gasperini have explicitly asked for two more forwards, despite the recent arrival of Santiago Castro.
According to Alfredo Pedullà, the Giallorossi have been keeping tabs on the Brazilian for a month, but they are unlikely to pounce on him in short order. They want to make a splash on the left wing first, for Antonio Nusa or other options, before addressing the other one. The future of Matias Soulé, who's been for sale for the whole summer but not particularly close to leaving yet, also contributes to the timing.
Roma are dueling with Fiorentina for Mastantuono, while Endrick has some suitors abroad, Mediaset reports. The former is poised to go out on loan or with a formula similar to Nico Paz's. That could also be the case for his teammate, who has a €45/50M price tag.
The capital club has some tactical reservations. The 20-year-old isn't a pure winger nor a no.10 and is at his best as a false-nine. He's not far from Donyell Malen and Castro in terms of characteristics, even though he could still be molded. He starred for Olympique Lyonnais last year, notching 8 goals and 8 ****** ists in 21 fixtures.
Perhaps there could be an opening to sign the former permanently, as he's been under Real Madrid's control for longer without properly leveling up; if not, they'd better look elsewhere, as this kind of deal is a double-edged sword and works okay only for second-tier teams, as it winds up developing youngsters for somebody else's benefit.

More details are emerging on Matias Soulé, as it's believed Roma want €30m plus €2m add-ons to make a sale, with the player proposed to Milan.
The Argentine is not part of Gian Piero Gasperini's plans this season, and with the arrival of Santiago Castro from Bologna, will have even less chance of playing time.
It has been said by several sources in recent weeks that Soulé and his agent have been shopping him around to various European clubs, with a particular focus on staying in Serie A for Milan.

Mexico all but booked their ticket to the Quarterfinals of the CONCACAF U20 Championship after defeating Costa Rica by a 2-0 score. Mexico overcame going down to 10 players to get a victory that place them at 6 points, basically guaranteeing them to be at worst one of the two best third placed teams and thus the ticket to the Quarterfinals. Mexico will look to win the group against Guatemala on Thursday while Costa Rica faces off against Antigua and Barbuda earlier that day.
The 1st half started with Mexico coming out with most of the starting 11 from their opener against Antigua and Barbuda. Off a free kick, a cross into the area was almost deflected in by Gabriel Sibaja, as Costa Rica had the first chance of the match. Off a counter, Kionell Estrada got off a right footed shot in the area that went wide. A right footed shot from outside the area from Hugo Camberos went well wide. Both teams traded possession as the match became very even. A bad clearance allowed Matias Cordero to get the ball in the area but his shot was well saved by Mexico's goalkeeper, Juan Liceaga. After a harsh foul, there was a short scuffle between teams that ended with David Carro getting a Yellow card. The match continued to be extremely chippy as Mexico couldn't get going against Costa Rica's physical play. From outside the area, Samir Inda got off a great left footed shot that was deflected off the post. Mexico started to dominate possession as Costa Rica sat back and waited to counter. After a cross into the area was won by Santiago Sandoval, he would get brought down in the area by Adrian Espinoza and a Penalty Kick was given to Mexico. Hugo Camberos stepped up to take the PK and got off a thunderous right footed shot that went past Costa Rica's goalkeeper, Ian O'Rourke to score and give Mexico the 1-o lead. From outside the area, Juan Echivelstre got off a great right footed shot that forced O'Rourke to make a great save. Emmanuel Hernandez answered with a right footed shot from outside the area that Liceaga made a great save on it. The halftime whistle blew and after a slow start to the match, Mexico ended the half being the better team.
The 2nd half started with Mexico subbing out Carlos Hernandez for Yohan Orozco. Strangely three minutes into the half, Mexico subbed out Aldahir Valenzuela (possibly because of an injury) for Diego Reyes. A bad clearance from Liceaga ended up with him clearing the ball and kicking Sibaja in the face which earned him a straight red card. It was a terrible mistake from the goalkeeper that now placed the match in extreme danger with only 10 players. Mexico would sub out Juan Sigala for Cristo Navarrate, which because of the strange substitution of Valenzuela, meant that Mexico only had one window for subs for the rest of the match. Off a counter, Inda would make a great pass to Santiago Sandoval, whose left footed shot would be deflected by Emmanuel Brenes past O'Rourk and into the net to score and give Mexico the surprising 2-0 l

Serie A sides Milan and Roma have an increasingly heated market axis and the latest transfer between them could involve Matias Soule.
This week, the Giallorossi stepped forward for Christopher Nkunku. It was expected the two clubs could open discussions for other players, with the Rossoneri having rejected Roma's approach for the Frenchman.
But PianetaMilan note that it is Milan who have stepped forward for a Giallorossi player in Soule.
They have spoken to his entourage about a possible deal and their interest can grow in the next few weeks. Ruben Amorim is a fan of the Argentine's profile, as he seeks players who have a reliable 1v1 ability and can play in attack.
A move though would depend on Rafael Leao's Milan exit. If he leaves for the required fee of €50 million, they could use that to sign Soule. But for now, the Portuguese staying at Milan is holding up the Rossoneri's entire transfer window and they don't want to wait until August to seal incomings.

Roma’s transfer market is experiencing one of its most heated phases: after seeing Greenwood, Garnacho, and Summerville all disappear at once, the Giallorossi must now seriously push to give Gasperini the four signings he has repeatedly requested.
Tony D’Amico continues to have a large list of names, especially in attack. But given the current situation, one of the key players in that department for next season could be Matias Soulè.
According to Il Messaggero, the Argentine’s chances of wearing the Giallorossi jersey for a long time to come are high, despite numerous transfer rumors suggesting several teams have their eye on him.
Gasperini is looking for strikers with different characteristics than the Mar de la Plata native, but this doesn’t rule out Gasperini’s desire to entrust him with the key to the attack next year.
Furthermore, it’s important to emphasize that, despite interest from several clubs, the 2003-born player has always put Roma first and has never considered leaving the capital. Soulè is still eager to prove himself, and Roma is ready to offer him the right platform to shine.

Grêmio is still looking in the market to sign a center-back to partner Gustavo Martins, following the departure of Viery, who was sold to Fiorentina.
According to ge, the coaching staff believes that veteran Kannemann, at 35, does not have the physical condition to cope with an intense marathon of matches.
The Tricolor's problem is its financial limitations when it comes to investing in a replacement. The club has a strict wage cap and wants to avoid major spending on the purchase of economic rights.
The names of Argentines Matías Moreno and Nicolás Valentini, both linked to Fiorentina, have emerged as alternatives for the position.
Talks for Moreno, however, have not progressed. The player prefers to remain in European football, and the Italian club is demanding a permanent transfer, which rules out the loan model sought by the Gaúchos.

Matias Soulé's future at Roma is far from certain.
The Argentine striker, who returned to the capital yesterday after a holiday in his homeland, is expected at Trigoria tomorrow for the start of his training camp. But he could leave again soon.
Sunderland want to bring him to the Premier League. After interest from Borussia Dortmund and Arab clubs in June, who, however, did not submit offers, the English clubs are now the most interested in the 2003-born player.
Roma values the 2003-born player at €35 million (about £30 million), a figure deemed reasonable by the English club, according to The Northern Echo.
The goal of Florent Ghisolfi, Sunderland's sporting director who brought Soulé to the capital in the summer of 2024, is now to convince Soulé to accept the English destination, where, among other things, he would be reunited with Enzo Le Fée, with whom he shared his first season at Trigoria.

In a recent report, El Intransigente stated that Sunderland are expected to move in for River Plate midfielder Matias Galarza this summer. It is understood that the Black Cats are eyeing a move to bring the Paraguay international to the Stadium of Light this off-season.
Galarza enjoyed a solid loan spell at the MLS club as he put in a series of impressive displays for them in the middle of the park. The 24-year-old made 13 appearances for Atlanta United last season across all fronts.
The Paraguay international is currently among the most talented midfielders in his homeland. Thus, Sunderland would do well to lure him to the Stadium of Light this off-season.
His current contract at his parent club, River Plate, will expire at the end of 2028, which could make it tough for the Black Cats to sign him on the cheap later this year.

Toulouse FC have opened talks to sign FC Basel midfielder Andrej Bacanin (19), according to a report from Foot Mercato.
Toulouse are looking to bolster their midfield options ahead of the coming season. Their attention initially was focused on Matias Siltanen, who currently plays his football for Djurgarden.
Le TéFéCé had been hopeful of concluding a deal for the Finland youth international, however, whilst the midfielder agreed to the move, finding an agreement with Djurgarden has proved more difficult. The latter's valuation may be too high for Toulouse, Foot Mercato understands, hence their shift of focus onto another target.
Bacanin, who primarily plays as a defensive midfielder, but who can also play as a No.8, played 25 games for FC Basel last season. The Serbia youth international (10 caps for the U19s) registered two ****** ists in that time. Toulouse have now made contact with the Serb concerning a potential move this summer.

Matias Soulé could leave Roma.
In June, the Giallorossi instructed the player's agent to find a club interested in the former Frosinone player willing to make an offer before the beginning of July in order to finalize the settlement agreement with UEFA.
Guastadisegno, the Argentine winger's agent, was clear on June 30: "I've received a lot of calls in recent weeks, I've spoken to several clubs, but no one has actually come forward, so we're not going anywhere. Soulé is an ******* et to Roma, and if someone inside is spreading such rumors, it will only harm Matias, an exemplary professional who has given everything to this club."
Soulé could move to the Premier League. As reported by Corriere dello Sport, the player's agent is in England negotiating with Sunderland and Fulham, two clubs that have expressed interest in the Argentine winger.
The former Frosinone player's book value is approximately €15.5 million, so a transfer of around €35 million would allow Roma to realize a capital gain of between €20 and €21 million. The Giallorossi are awaiting offers around these figures. These are crucial hours for Matias Soulé's future.

Uruguay were the only South American team not to make it out of the group stage, in what was a very disappointing campaign from La Celeste. They had a decent squad and a favourable draw. However, the local media heading into the tournament were talking about the breakdown in internal cohesion, and those concerns were evident straight away against Saudi Arabia, who controlled much of the first half and deservedly took the lead through Abdulelah Al-Amri just before half-time.
Despite all the criticism of coach Marcelo Bielsa, it was his changes at half-time, taking off Matias Viña and Darwin Núñez, and bringing on Juan Sanabria and Agustín Canobbio, that changed the balance of the second half. Uruguay pretty much dominated after the break and were unlucky not to win the game. They found an equaliser through Maximiliano Araújo, who was definitely one of the bright sparks for La Celeste throughout the tournament.
However, they just didn't kick on from that performance.
Against Cape Verde in the second match, they were well off the mark. Kevin Pina opened the scoring for Cape Verde before Uruguay turned the game around through Maximiliano Araújo and Canobbio. However, their lead was cancelled out in the second half as Helio Varela equalised for Cape Verde, earning what was probably a deserved point.

Liverpool are still searching for their successor to Mohamed Salah.
The Egyptian King, 34, was allowed to leave following an agreement to rip up his £400k contract one year early. But sporting director Richard Hughes is very much on the back foot regarding a new forward - because Yan Diomande is no longer approachable.
The outgoing Premier League champions were rebuffed in their attempts to land the Ivorian from RB Leipzig with a preference since expressed about favouring a move to Paris Saint-Germain.
That development leaves Liverpool shopping on their alternate list of targets - which includes Bradley Barcola, Matias Fernandez-Pardo and Said El Mala.
One more player reported to feature on that list is Yankuba Minteh. The 21-year-old Brighton attacker is seen as a successor to Salah inside Anfield - and a bid is coming imminently.
