LeBron and Steph are the two modern pillars of the NBA. While LeBron chases the legacy of Michael Jordan, Curry has proven that he belongs at the same table as the all-time greats.
James and Curry could've been teammates this summer if James had joined the Warriors, fulfilling a publicly-stated dream for the 41-year-old. Unfortunately, one factor was too much to ignore.
Draymond Green spoke about James' decision on his podcast, openly stating that he thought the optics of LeBron coming to the Warriors to play with Steph was too much of a gamble with his legacy.
"I ultimately don't think Bron was ever able to get over the history, and I understand it, I get it… He's gonna get crushed if he comes to the Warriors, 'ahhhh man, you went to team up with Steph', and ultimately I think that weighed in on the decision a lot."

Nine-time Olympic champion Caeleb Dressel won the 100m men's freestyle and Anna Moesch broke her own women's 100m freestyle American record on Tuesday's opening night of the US National Championships.
Dressel won the 100m final in 47.70sec, his fastest time since the 2024 US Olympic trials, touching 0.11 ahead of Brooks Curry.
The 29-year-old Floridian won the 100m freestyle at the Tokyo Olympics and is a two-time world champion in the event.
Moesch won in 51.88sec to lower the national mark of 51.94 she set on May 25 in London.

The nine-time Olympic gold medalist went out first and held off a stacked field to win the men's 100 freestyle in 47.70 on night one of U.S. Nationals. This marks his fastest swim since the 2024 Olympic Trials in a statement effort that the former Olympic champion in this event is trending toward his old form. It capped a big day for Dressel, who had already served notice with a sub-48 prelims swim earlier in the day.
Four men broke 48 seconds in the final, a level of depth that can energize fans of Team USA. Brooks Curry took second in 47.81, Patrick Sammon was third in 47.87, and Virginia's Maximus Williamson, fresh off his impressive freshman year, grabbed to fourth in 47.93. The Golden State Warriors have re-signed veteran Draymond Green on a one-year $28 million deal after missing out on LeBron James, US media reported Tuesday.
Four-time NBA champion Green had last month declined the same contract in order to free up **** e in the Warriors' salary cap as they pursued free-agent superstar James.
But with James signing for the Philadelphia 76ers this week, both Green and Golden State agreed to renew on the previous terms.
The 36-year-old forward, who was on the Rio and Tokyo Olympic US gold medal teams, has spent his entire career with the Warriors since being selected in the 2012 NBA Draft.
Green played a key role alongside the likes of Stephen Curry in the dynasty that captured NBA **** les in 2015, 2017, 2018 and 2022.

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Draymond Green has agreed to a one-year, $27.7 million deal to return to the Golden State Warriors, a person familiar with the decision told The ******* ociated Press on Tuesday.
Green will sign the contract that essentially matches the deal he opted out of last month before the Warriors made an unsuccessful bid to sign LeBron James, the person said.
The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the deal hadn't been announced.
ESPN first reported the deal.
Green is now set to play his 15th season with the Warriors and if he plays in 51 games he will join Stephen Curry as the only players in franchise history to appear in at least 1,000 contests.

The Golden State Warriors were a much-discussed free agency landing spot for LeBron James until he ultimately signed with the Philadelphia 76ers. Draymond Green has an indication why James didn't join him and Stephen Curry in the Bay Area.
In an episode of The Draymond Green Show, Green says the lengthy history between James and the Warriors factored into his decision to go elsewhere. James' Cleveland Cavaliers battled the Warriors in four consecutive NBA Finals, with the Cavaliers coming back from a 3-1 deficit in 2016 for their lone ***** le win over that stretch.
"I ultimately don't think Bron was ever able to get over the history and I understand it, I get it," Green said. "... He's gonna get crushed if he comes to the Warriors. 'Ah, man you went to team up with Steph.' ... And ultimately I think that weighed in on the decision a lot, that played a big role in the Warriors not landing LeBron."
The Warriors weren't able to land LeBron, but they kept their defensive stalwart in town by handing Green a one-year, $27.7 million extension, according to ESPN's Shams Charania.
With James heading to Philly, questions surrounding Curry's future have begun to emerge. Curry, 38, has a limited ***** le window, and yet the Warriors' roster is much thinner than it has been historically. If Golden State doesn't compete in 2026-27, it wouldn't be shocking to see Curry try and win a ***** le elsewhere, as he's hitting unrestricted free agency after the season. Perhaps he takes a discount deal like LeBron to play for a contender.

Although a writer from The Athletic recently reported that Stephen Curry and the Golden State Warriors "may no longer be on the same page," another NBA insider sees things differently.
According to Shams Charania of ESPN, he "fully expects" there to be contract extension negotiations between Curry and the Warriors this summer. Charania also noted, "They (Golden State) are going to give him one (contract extension) if he wants one."
Curry is eligible to add one or two seasons on to his current deal. That said, if Curry doesn't extend with the team this summer, his relationship with the front office will be worth monitoring, especially if the team isn't able to improve on a 37-45 record that saw them finish 10th in the Western Conference.

NBA insider Shams Charania recently revealed details of the package that was offered from Golden State to Milwaukee for Giannis Antetokounmpo before he landed with the Miami Heat. According to Charania, the Warriors offered four first-round picks to land Antetokounmpo, an offer that was ultimately rebuffed by the Bucks.

In Cleveland, he had a play for the romantics. It was a return home to where it started, a return home to where he won his most historically significant ****** le, a guaranteed victory lap no matter what happened in his final year(s) with the Cavaliers.
In Miami, he had familiarity. This was the only place where he had won multiple ****** les, in a market that isn't quite as challenging to its stars, with a lead star in Giannis who could lead the team himself.
Even in Golden State, where he'd have to convince longtime rival fans to embrace him as Steph Curry's partner, there would be no real burden of expectation. The prospect of LeBron with the Warriors had been referred to as an NBA version of the Expendables — a box office draw with familiar faces, but removed from the primes of all involved.
"There were only three real choices," a source familiar with LeBron's thinking told PHLY on Friday night. "The draw of Golden State was just about how fun it would be to play with Steph and Dray."

Why is Sabrina Ionescu not in the WNBA's 3-Point Contest this weekend in Chicago? She won it last year, as well as in 2023, when she put up a record round of 37. Ionescu even briefly revitalized the NBA's competition in 2024 by going head-to-head with Steph Curry, only narrowly losing to the NBA legend.
However, Ionescu is not even in the pool of participants this time around.
There are a host of reasons that could explain this: Ionescu did not make the All-Star game amid an injury-plagued campaign for New York, while up-and-comers like Azzi Fudd and Rhyne Howard will replace some of Ionescu's star power. But across the WNBA and NBA, if a reigning victor wants to participate in any of the All-Star weekend festivities, they are welcomed back.
At a press conference leading into All-Star weekend, Ionescu claimed she was never invited.
"I can't decline an offer that I officially didn't get invited to," she said.

Curry has one season remaining on his deal, but according to Anthony Slater, the Warriors would be interested in giving him a one-year or two-year max contract extension.
A one-year extension would align the contracts of both Curry and Steve Kerr, who signed a two-year extension this offseason, and could offer the opportunity for his "Splash Brother," Klay Thompson, to join him in the Bay Area for the 2027-28 season. Bronny James says he does not know where his father will play next season as LeBron James continues weighing offers from teams across the NBA.
The Los Angeles Lakers guard was approached by streamer Biggy22x and asked whether LeBron might join Stephen Curry and the Golden State Warriors. Bronny laughed but offered no indication that a deal was developing.
LeBron has already informed the Lakers that he will play elsewhere during the 2026-27 season, ending his eight-year run in Los Angeles. He has not announced his next team, and agent Rich Paul says the decision will not be rushed.

The Brooklyn Nets still have some moves to make with the 2026 NBA offseason still containing some big names on the market that could sign as soon as LeBron James decides where he will play next. Brooklyn has made most of the moves that they're going to make prior to the beginning of the 2026-27 season, but they are projected to lead the league in cap ****** e against next season.
The Nets are projected to have $68.6 million in cap ****** e following the conclusion of the 2026-27 campaign, according to Keith Smith of Spotrac in a post on X on Thursday. Following the Nets are the Chicago Bulls ($55.6 million), Los Angeles Clippers ($53.8 million), Detroit Pistons ($43.9 million), and Milwaukee Bucks ($43.3 million) to round out the top-5 teams in cap ****** e that offseason.
While Brooklyn is projected to have the most cap ****** e in the league next summer, that figure would change if the Nets agree to a contract extension with forward Michael Porter Jr. at some point this offseason. Porter is eligible to sign an extension for four years and $234 million and while he is unlikely to get the maximum amount of money he is eligible for, the structure of his extension could change Brooklyn's offseason next year significantly.
More to the point, the Nets reportedly signed center Mo Wagner to a two-year, $18 million deal, according to ESPN's Shams Charania, but the Wagner signing has not been made official as of this writing. However, even Brooklyn signs Wagner to the reported contract, his second year may not factor into the Nets' cap ****** e if it is a team option that the team ultimately declines.
Essentially, ****** uming that Porter isn't signed to a contract extension and Wagner's deal has a team option on the second year, Brooklyn will have almost $70 million in cap ****** e to work with after next season. Some of the best unrestricted free-agents next season, excluding James, will be Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry, forward Kawhi Leonard, and Milwaukee Bucks guard Tyler Herro.

I guess we could start by eliminating those who would not be considered longshots. No starter from a year ago should be in that category. I would also eliminate our first two draft picks, as they are being penciled in as starters as well. As far as free agent acquisitions, Davis-Gaither has a pretty clear path to starting, as does Arden Key. Both should, and frankly need to be, to see the Colts defense improve enough to elevate the entire team.
Maybe not every starter should be being counted on as major contributors? For me, if Travis emerged as a player that you start looking at wanting to lock up, that would mean he was making a pretty huge contribution. Fending off Farmer or Goncalves, would be setting the OL up for a couple of years of strong continuity. I would call Farmer a long-shot, but just barely. I don’t think many would be shocked if he won a role, but he does have a hill to climb as a rookie.
Seeing Dulin, NWI, Gould, or Burks might be candidates, if one of them holds on to a role that many want to see a proven veteran be brought in to take. Either of our draft picks, Giddens or McGowan, would be logical choices, provided they win a role or see the field often enough to help. Seeing AR or Leonard become the starter for any stretch, would mean that something went wrong. But, should either get the opportunity and run with it, it certainly would change the narrative for 2027.
There is a decent chance that Haulcey gets the first shot at Safety aside Bynum. There are some players who might push him, or push for time as a 3rd Safety/coverage LB. Wohler, Thomas, and Owens might get some opportunities, should Haulcey not take the role by the horns. If Ward or Sauce are not on the field, we have spent unwisely. If Walley is not on the field, we have ****** umed too much. It would, however, open up a chance to see if Taylor-Britt’s experience in the defense might play well. We have seen the other candidates at corner and a leap would have to be considered in the longshot range.
Boettcher is interesting prospect. Although not truly hyped, he doesn’t have a proven player to rise above. I think if Carlies really had something, we would have seen it by now. Behind Grover, the most likely options are Wooden and Adebawore to have some impact. On the edge, JTT and Clemons are the “vets”, along with the rookies Gumbs and Curry.

The Philadelphia 76ers remain behind the Golden State Warriors in the betting market for LeBron James, but the latest message from inside Golden State could provide Philadelphia with a potential opening.
ESPN Warriors insider Anthony Slater said Wednesday on NBA Today that Golden State is pessimistic about its chances of signing James. The Warriors have kept a roster spot open and would welcome the four-time NBA champion, but they do not believe his decision is leaning in their direction.
“They’ve just not thought they’re at the top of the list,” Slater said. “I talked to somebody last night that basically said they’ve given no sign or hint that it’s going to happen.”
Slater noted that Stephen Curry has contacted James directly and Draymond Green recently vacationed with him. Those relationships should give Golden State some insight into James’ thinking.

Reports on Tuesday had swirled that Ionescu — who holds the all-time three-point contest record among either the WNBA or NBA — had been among the high-profile players to decline an invite to the competition. But ahead of the Liberty’s matchup against the Chicago Sky on Wednesday, Ionescu told reporters that she was never invited in the first place.

The Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame will introduce its newest exhibit on Friday, July 24, which will be dedicated to the 12-time NBA All-Star, two-time MVP, Olympic gold medalist, four-time NBA champion and the undisputed greatest shooter of all time.
This development is a part of the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame acclaimed gallery called "The Vault."
The exhibit is called "Stephen Curry: Beyond the Arc" and it showcases Curry's prowess on and off the court. In a creative partnership with Curry's Thirty Ink business team, the exhibit will showcase Curry's legacy as a basketball icon, entrepreneur, philanthropist and family man.

Stephen Curry is still adding to his legacy with the Golden State Warriors, but his latest achievement will not come with a basketball in his hands. The Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame is honoring Curry with a dedicated exhibit while the four-time NBA champion remains an active player. According to an announcement shared by the Warriors on Tuesday, "Stephen Curry: Beyond the Arc" will open Friday as part of "The Vault," an immersive gallery at the Hall of Fame in Springfield, Mass.
Curry will become the first active NBA player to receive his own exhibit in the museum's 75-year history.
"He changed the game for good," the Warriors wrote on Instagram. "And now, he makes history yet again. Beginning this Friday, Stephen Curry will become the first active player EVER to have an exhibit at the hoophall."
It is an unprecedented honor for a player whose impact has stretched far beyond his statistics, championships and individual awards.

With it being a day ending in Y, the Mets have made another roster move. The team has called up right-handed pitcher Daniel Duarte from Triple-A Syracuse and optioned fellow right-handed pitcher Xzavion Curry to Syracuse. Both pitchers have been part of the team's roster churn at the fringe of its major league bullpen this year.
Duarte has thrown five innings for the Mets at the major league level, and he has a 0.00 ERA and a 2.50 FIP in that extraordinarily small sample. He'll presumably get sent back to Syracuse before long, and in 30.1 innings at that level this year, he has a 4.75 ERA and a 4.96 FIP.
As for Curry, he's thrown six innings over the course of four appearances for the Mets, and he has a 3.00 ERA and a 4.94 FIP. He's thrown 49.1 innings for Syracuse this year, working almost exclusively as a starter, and he has a 4.74 ERA and a 5.67 FIP there.
