O.J. Brigance, a Super Bowl champion with the Baltimore Ravens, has passed away at the age of 56 following a 19-year battle with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) – also known as Lou Gehrig's disease, the team announced.
A native of Houston, Texas, Brigance didn't have to travel far to play in college – starring at Rice University before turning pro and playing in the Canadian Football League with the BC Lions beginning in 1991. The linebacker later joined the Baltimore Stallions, helping the team win the Grey Cup in 1995.
The following year, Brigance made the jump over to the NFL and signed with the Miami Dolphins. He became a key contributor for the Ravens during the 2000 season, especially on special teams.
Brigance recorded the first tackle of Super Bowl 35, a game the Ravens went on to win over the New York Giants, 34-7.
He stepped away from the NFL after seven seasons, having played in 98 games with four different teams. After retiring, Brigance returned to the Ravens in a personnel role focused on player engagement.

On August 6, Corvus Pharmaceuticals (NASDAQ:CRVS) held its second-quarter 2026 earnings call, and the story was almost entirely about one molecule. Soquelitinib, the company's oral ITK inhibitor, is now being tested across five different diseases at once, from a rare blood cancer to asthma. That kind of breadth from a single-asset biotech is either a sign of real conviction in the science or a company spreading itself thin before it has proven anything. The quarter's numbers and trial updates offer evidence for both readings.
The clearest bright spot is atopic dermatitis. In the highest-dose cohort of a Phase 1 trial, presented at the Society for Investigative Dermatology meeting, 75% of soquelitinib patients hit EASI-75 after 8 weeks of 200 milligram twice-daily dosing, versus 20% of patients on placebo. A quarter of treated patients reached EASI-90, and a third achieved clear or almost-clear skin, outcomes no placebo patient matched. Management also pointed to something more unusual: the benefit persisted after dosing stopped, without the rebound seen with other drugs in the class.
Corvus is carrying that data into a roughly 200-patient Phase 2 trial, called SEERA-1, with enrollment set to finish in early 2027 and results due the following quarter. The company's finances give it room to run. It ended the quarter with $215 million in cash and marketable securities, up from $56.8 million at the end of 2025, largely thanks to $189 million raised in a Q1 follow-on offering, enough to fund operations into the second quarter of 2028.
That cash cushion exists because Corvus is spending a lot more than it used to. R&D costs jumped to $16 million in the quarter from $7.9 million a year earlier, and the net loss more than doubled to $18 million from $8 million, driven by higher trial costs and added headcount tied to soquelitinib. The company remains a one-drug story in practice, and its most advanced program, a Phase 3 trial in relapsed or refractory peripheral T-cell lymphoma, will not offer a public readout soon.
An independent committee is expected to run a futility ******* ysis around the first quarter of 2027, with no data released publicly at that time. Much of the atopic dermatitis story outside the US also runs through Angel Pharmaceuticals, a China-based partner in which Corvus just put another $5 million as part of a $13.5 million financing round. That trial's first cohort of 24 patients is not expected to finish enrolling until September, meaning part of the bull case still sits ahead of the company.

Michigan football quarterback Bryce Underwood showed flashes as a true freshman starter last season, but ultimately struggled throughout most of 2025. However, recent reports suggest the former five-star quarterback could take a huge jump in 2026.
Underwood — the unanimous No. 1-ranked player of the 2025 class among recruiting industry leaders — passed for 2,428 yards with 11 touchdowns to nine interceptions last season, rushing for 392 yards and six additional scores. First-year head coach Kyle Whittingham gives Underwood an "A-plus" so far during fall camp after Underwood experienced some struggles in the spring.
REQUIRED READING: Bryce Underwood gets 'A+' grade in camp. Here's why Michigan is hyped
"He's coming along well," Whittingham told the Big Ten Network. "He's much further ahead than he was at the end of spring. He obviously worked hard this summer and did a lot of positive things getting himself ready in the film room, on the field and so far through six practices. I'd grade him an A-plus."
Underwood disappointed in the Wolverines' spring game, completing 3 of 9 passes for 22 yards. However, the second-year quarterback spent time this summer with Michigan quarterbacks coach Koy Detmer Jr. and outside quarterbacks coach Jordan Palmer, which helped his development, according to the Detroit Free Press, part of the USA TODAY Network.

Editor's note: Each day, Hogs Haven compiles a collection of articles, podcasts & tweets from around the web to keep you in touch with the Commanders, the NFC East, the NFL and sports in general, with a sprinkling of other stuff. Enjoy!

Sonny Styles made his NFL debut in the Commanders preseason opener against the Dolphins on Friday night. The seventh overall pick started the game but played just one series before being held out for the rest of the game. In that series, the Commanders defense struggled to stop the Dolphins as Miami drove 93 yards down the field on a 14-play touchdown drive. Some fans have been quick to jump on Styles and be extremely critical of his performance, which is obviously silly given the context. But as such, I thought I'd take a closer look at how Styles played.
Run Game
In the run game, Styles had a few ups and downs but was largely pretty solid. There were a few plays I saw people online being critical of when actually Styles did exactly what he was meant to do.

In his memoir of life in the tech industry, "Chaos Monkeys," Antonio Garcia Martinez wrote that it's not the rats who first abandon a sinking ship but rather the crew members who know how to swim.
By that measure, Brooks Koepka made like Michael Phelps, presciently jumping overboard early from LIV Golf and stroking his way to safe harbor. Now that the Good Ship Yasir seems doomed for the sea floor — the bullshit that long acted as ballast having shifted to expose the dead weight of washed-up hangers-on — those who remained are left eyeing leaky life rafts.
Just two members of LIV's roster matter, no matter how much its CEO, Scott O'Neil, blathered about the importance of Dean Burmester on the South African stop. They are Bryson DeChambeau and Jon Rahm. The former because every carnival needs a barker, the latter because leagues need credible competitors. While DeChambeau remains welded to LIV, Rahm's tone has been lukewarm and several sources in his orbit are convinced he'll exit soon. He has alternatives, but they're not painless and require accepting conditions that the prideful Spaniard might balk at.
Rahm's obvious first choice for life after LIV would be returning to compete on the PGA Tour. He lives in the U.S., and it's the most lucrative, competitively demanding and commercially relevant circuit. But no one around the Tour thinks Rahm will be offered the terms Koepka accepted, and many believe he'd be asked to pay stiffer financial penalties, accept restricted playing privileges and perhaps even apologize (for what, and to whom, is unclear). How would that sit with a man who went to war with the DP World Tour in Europe over comparatively modest fines?
Koepka chose to leave LIV with time remaining on his contract. Rahm would be leaving by necessity, knowing he won't see all of the cash promised and that the league, if it survives, would do so only because someone wanted to leverage its losses to dodge taxes elsewhere in their investment portfolio. His former peers haven't forgotten that he went to LIV months after the Framework Agreement was announced, willingly becoming leverage for the Saudis, and that he later said (with amusing self-regard) that he felt his leaving would be the catalyst to uniting the game. Rahm thought he could take the bag and return as a hero. No one did more to ensure there'd be no deal between the Tour and the Saudis (with the possible exception of Patrick Cantlay in the boardroom). He chose his side and the guys he left behind were determined to make him live with the decision. Plenty remain so, and are disinclined to roll out the welcome mat too quickly.

For the last five years, I have cleared my schedule for every A'ja Wilson versus Breanna Stewart matchup — and there have been many. They are the two defining players of this WNBA generation, with a combined six MVPs and six **** les between them, and the faces of USA Basketball. They relish the competition of playing against the best at their position and raise their levels when they meet.
The Wilson-Stewart era is far from over. Wilson is on pace to be MVP yet again, while Stewart is putting together yet another All-WNBA season. Although the Las Vegas Aces sit higher in the standings, the New York Liberty have mostly gotten the best of them this season, including in the Commissioner's Cup final. A playoff series between them (a fifth matchup in seven seasons) would be high-level theater.
It would be near-impossible for another individual rivalry to reach those heights — again, look at all the hardware the two have in their trophy cases — but it was fun to get a look at the future during the aptly-named rivals week. Paige Bueckers and Caitlin Clark have a lot more winning to do to reach the Wilson-Stewart level, but they do have the right ingredients in place. They're elite players at essentially the same position who came up together through USA Basketball; like Stewart and Wilson, they each were the MVP at a U-19 World Cup. They both had outstanding college careers, and now they are trying to compete for **** les in the WNBA.
Bueckers and Clark have met only three times in the pros, and the first was mostly forgettable. The last two, however, have been worth the wait. The third quarter of Friday's game between Dallas and Indiana was a true highlight, as these two unselfish guards kept trying to one-up the other as bucket-getters. Six of their baskets were immediately followed by points from the other, including a very fun stretch in which Clark hit a layup, Bueckers followed with a pull-up 3, Clark responded with a pull-up jumper and Bueckers hit another shot in the midrange. Not a lot of passing from the nominal point guards, but the budding seeds of a longer rivalry.
Ideally, the Wings and Fever will meet in the playoffs (with Azzi Fudd and Jessica Shepard both healthy by that point) and give this matchup the stakes it deserves. For now, it's an enjoyable undercard to the Wilson-Stewart rivalry.

The Dallas Cowboys may not have made a "splash signing" in the traditional offseason sense, but make no mistake: this is a significant moment for both the franchise and Texas A&M's football community.
Von Miller has been open for years about wanting to play in Dallas. The Cowboys, meanwhile, have been searching for a seasoned pass rusher who could stabilize the edge, mentor their young defenders, and bring championship‑level experience into the locker room. For now, it feels like a match made in football heaven, with both sides getting exactly what they've been looking for.
Whether this partnership becomes a long‑term success story or simply a short‑term boost remains to be seen. Miller is entering the twilight of his career, and the Cowboys are navigating a roster that's shifting under them. But the move is undeniably noteworthy not just because of Miller's resume, but because of what his presence represents for a team trying to stay competitive in a loaded NFC.
And as expected, the moment the news broke, NFL fans across the league jumped in with their reactions. Cowboys fans celebrated the addition of a future Hall of Famer. Aggies fans took pride in seeing one of their greatest defensive players land with one of the most visible franchises in sports. Rival fanbases chimed in with skepticism, jokes, and hot takes about Miller's age, his production, and whether Dallas is getting the "real" Von Miller or just the name.
That's the beauty of a move like this: it doesn't just shift a depth chart. It sparks conversation, debate, and emotion across the NFL landscape. And when a player of Miller's stature changes teams, especially to a franchise as polarizing as the Cowboys, the reaction is always loud.

Customer relationship management software provider Salesforce Inc. (NYSE:CRM)'s shares are down by 19% over the past year and by 22% year-to-date. It is one of the most commonly discussed stocks by Jim Cramer. For instance, in May, Cramer revealed that Salesforce Inc. (NYSE:CRM) was one of his smallest positions because the "market hates software." However, in July, the CNBC TV host countered Keybanc's negative coverage by pointing towards remarks made by Salesforce Inc. (NYSE:CRM) CEO Marc Benioff. In his morning appearance on August 6th, he discussed the firm's decision to promote Miguel Milano to operating chief:
"Yeah, look, I've met Miguel, he's a terrific guy, the guy that just got promoted, but, look, we're not that far from Dreamforce, so I'd hate to see any turmoil there. Miguel Milano is the guy who did, the last time I went, he was part of the major speech. But, you need to see, right before Dreamforce, it's really important. I can't wait to talk to Marc, cause, the stock had been going up but that may have been as part of an unwind of Situational along with Workday, along with ServiceNow, but didn't want to see this. Didn't want to see that departure."
Cramer's remarks about Salesforce Inc. (NYSE:CRM) tie into his earlier sentiments and the broader debate surrounding the firm. On multiple ocasions he has discussed the difference between the firm's AI (Agentforce) and non-AI offerings. With Milano previously being the chief revenue officer, Cramer's worries seem to reflect his concerns about Salesforce Inc. (NYSE:CRM)'s revenue from its AI products.
On the bullish front, Salesforce Inc. (NYSE:CRM)'s market presence and enterprise relationships can drive Agentforce revenue higher and enable businesses to expand their operations without relying on the traditional seat-based business model. Despite being a legacy software firm, it is also growing sales in the AI era. During its fiscal Q1 2027, Salesforce Inc. (NYSE:CRM)'s revenue jumped by 13.3% annually to sit at $11.13 billion, while its earnings marked a whopping 50%+ annual jump. Yet, there are fears that this growth could moderate. As its fiscal Q1 ended, Salesforce Inc. (NYSE:CRM) kept its full-year support-and-subscription guidance growth at 12% while its Q1 growth was 14%. Additionally, $444 of the firm's Q1 revenue came from its Informatica division and didn't reflect organic business.
Looking at the hedge funds, sentiment slightly moderated in Q1. In Q4 2025, 115 out of the 1,041 hedge funds covered by Insider Monkey had owned a stake in Salesforce Inc. (NYSE:CRM), while this figure dropped to 101 out of 1,022 in Q1 2026. The bearish sentiment appears to be reflected in the valuation as well, since Salesforce Inc. (NYSE:CRM)'s forward P/E of 14.51 is lower than ServiceNow's 31.15 and Oracle's 18. Short interest is higher at 4.15% of the float compared to 0.74% for SAP.

Figma, Inc. (NYSE:FIG) is a website and mobile application design products and services provider. It is one of the weakest-performing stocks on the market as the shares are down by 68% over the past year and by 32% year-to-date. On the 6th, the day that Cramer discussed the stock, Figma, Inc. (NYSE:FIG) closed a whopping 14.9% lower. The dip came after Figma, Inc. (NYSE:FIG) had reported its second quarter earnings after market close on the 5th. The CNBC TV host didn't believe the post-earnings reaction was completely justified:
"Okay so Figma's another one. I looked it over. It wasn't that great, it wasn't that bad, and people decided to just trash it. They just trashed it."
Figma, Inc. (NYSE:FIG)'s earnings were a mixed bag of results. The firm's $370 million revenue, which marked a 48% growth, beat ****** yst estimates of $351 million. Figma, Inc. (NYSE:FIG) also ****** ped its full year revenue guidance to $1.463 billion and $1.467 billion from the earlier $1.422 billion to $1.428 billion. Yet, at the same time, the software company had to launch an artificial intelligence agent to fuel its revenue growth. The launch pushed its research and development costs to $167 million for a strong 101% annual jump. Additionally, Figma, Inc. (NYSE:FIG)'s operating margin also dropped to 10% from 16%. However, on a non-GAAP basis, the R&D jump was a milder 34%.
On the bearish front, Figma, Inc. (NYSE:FIG) might be ****** e to a slowdown which often rings the death knell in software valuation. The firm's third quarter revenue guide ranged between $373 million to $375 million and implied a modest growth of roughly 1% at the midpoint sequentially and 36% annually. Additionally, Figma, Inc. (NYSE:FIG) might also experience increased competition should AI enable competitors to create similar products.
Hedge fund sentiment in the firm appears to be static. During Q4 2025 and Q1 2026, 51 hedge funds part of Insider Monkey's database had held a stake in Figma, Inc. (NYSE:FIG). As for valuation, the firm is very richly valued compared to its peers. Its forward P/E ratio of 87.72 is significantly higher than Adobe's 9.95, while short interest as a percentage of float of 30% is also nearly six times Adobe's 5.45%.

Hunter Tipton spoke to the media on Saturday after practice, and he discussed multiple topics from his new Memphis tattoo to the ongoing quarterback competition.
Tipton joined the Tigers in the offseason after spending the 2025 season at Middle Tennessee. The Blue Raiders were his fourth school in four years after playing at two JUCOs before making the jump to the Division I level.
Tipton started his career at Tyler Junior College, where he appeared in only three games, before he transferred to Northeast Oklahoma A&M. After two years at the JUCO level, Tipton transferred to Louisiana Tech, where he played in six games and finished with 23 yards on five receptions.
He entered the transfer portal again and landed at Middle Tennessee and had a breakout season. The tight end finished the season with 411yards and two touchdowns on 39 receptions.

Tyrod Taylor is a married man!
The veteran NL quarterback tied the knot this summer with Bianka Charity-Parker, who posted a collaboration gallery of photos to her Instagram on Friday, Aug. 14 of the rustic wedding. She wore a longsleeve white lace dress, and he wore a white jacket with black wide leg pants for the outdoor ceremony, which included them jumping the broom. Her caption said that the two wed on July 11.
Victoria Holland, owner of Victoria Ann Events, also shared photos of the nuptials to her company's Instagram page. She revealed that Grammy-winning rapper Pusha T helped connect her to the couple.
"I was fully planning on JUST talking to Bianka and Tyrod, and figuring out which of my many friends in this industry I could recommend to do their wedding," she said in the caption. "But as soon as I got on the zoom, listened to their story, I knew I had to be a small part of their wedding story! Shoutout to kingpush for always knowing best."
Taylor, who signed with the Green Bay Packers this offseason for his 16th NFL season, and Charity-Parker, who is a Clinical Psychology ******* ociate for KIPP DC Public Schools, according to her LinkedIn, each wore multiple looks for the day. The quarterback's outfits were put together by his longtime friend, stylist and business partner Dex Robinson. Besides the white and black suit, Taylor donned a gold suit and a black look with an embroidered cropped jacket and long shorts. It appeared Charity-Parker removed her sleeves to reveal a strapless bodice for her second look.

Deion Sanders has never done things the conventional way, and his latest rules for fall training camp put him right back in the national crosshairs. When Coach Prime restricted standard media access, national sports commentators quickly jumped on the story, accusing him of trying to control the press and shield his team from tough questions.
While national pundits tore into the decision, a voice deep within the Colorado football family offered a very different perspective. Liz Munsterteiger, whose late husband, Adam, spent over two decades covering the Buffaloes before his passing in May 2026, shared a clear, thoughtful reflection on social media that cut through the noise.
Writing to the fanbase and media community, Liz admitted she was never the one drawing up X's and O's, but she knew the beat inside and out: "When I started this BuffStampede journey, I made it clear l'd never have the football knowledge to be one of the beat writers. That hasn't changed. But I do know what I witnessed over nine years of watching adamcm777 lose access to this team, bit by bit. I've been thinking about him a lot watching this whole "fight" over DeionSanders and CUBuffsFootball opening practice to media with restrictions," she tweeted.
"Adam covered this program for more than 20 years, through a lot of coaches and a lot of different eras of access. He'd find it insane that opening the gates more somehow became a story about shutting media out."

In a recent post, The Athletic talked about who they believe is the most intriguing newcomer for all of the teams in the Power Four. Newcomer can mean any player that they picked up out of high school or the transfer portal, or any coach they nabbed on the carousel. While most Rutgers fans likely would have named new defensive coordinator Travis Johansen as the team's most intriguing addition, The Athletic chose another direction.
They chose to name former Tulsa EDGE J'Dan Burenett as the Scarlet Knights' most intriguing newcomer, pointing out his ability to make plays in the backfield as the reason for it.
"This is Burnett's third stop in as many seasons after he played at Louisiana Tech in 2024 and Tulsa in 2025. He earned second-team All-American Conference honors last year after recording 6.5 sacks and 9.5 TFLs," said Antonio Morales, writer of the post.
It has been some time since Rutgers has had a truly consistent pass rusher. There is a possibility that Burnett could be the answer to that; however, his stats at the lower level don't necessarily jump off the page. Rutgers did add several defensive line pieces in the portal overall, so there is a possibility that the overall improvement of the defensive line gives Burnett what he needs to be successful, but that seems to be a reach given what we know now.
It is a surprise that Johansen was not the name called here, given that he is taking over a defense that set records for poor performance last season. On top of that, he has a proven track record of building defenses at the lower level, so seeing what he can do to the Knights' defense in year one is definitely intriguing, to say the least. It is unreasonable to expect a complete turnaround in one season; however, a good leap forward from where they were is still on the table. How much they improve is one of the most intriguing things about the team next season, and Johansen is the architect behind that.

Rookie Anne Chen had made only one cut on the LPGA this season prior to this week and a grand total of $7,097. Chen closed with a 6-under 66 at The Standard Portland Classic thanks to playing her last five holes in 5 under, including an ace on the par-3 eighth. She earned $29,230 for the week after a T-14 finish.
CME donates $20,000 to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital for every ace made on tour.
Duke's Chen began the final round at Columbia Edgewater Country Club on the 10th hole. After making the turn in 34, she turned up the heat with a run of three birdies beginning on the fifth hole. Then came the ace.
"Well, you know, it was a good pin," said Chen after the round. "It's one of the shorter par 3s as well, so when you can kind of take advantage of it, be a little careful because there is a lot of water on the right-hand side.
"But I had like a small 9-iron and it was 134, so I was like, anywhere near the hole could be good, give myself a chance for birdie. Then it jumped into the hole and I was like 'Oh, OK."

When Brooks Koepka announced his departure from LIV Golf, the PGA Tour was put into a difficult position.
While it was important to punish Koepka for jumping ship to the competition, the PGA Tour could not deny that having the five-time major champion back would be a boost.
There is a debate to be had about the terms offered to Koepka. And it seems that plenty of tough decisions may be just around the corner for Brian Rolapp with LIV Golf's future in serious doubt.
Jon Rahm is now expected to leave LIV, according to The Telegraph. That could be a big problem, with the league's prospective investors wanting all of the big names to commit to hanging around before they sign on the dotted line and fund the 2027 season.
The timing could hardly be better for the PGA Tour, with the tour set to be split in two from 2028.

Every year, like clockwork, there are rookies who break into the NFL and make an impact. These players get all the headlines, but we also see second-year players take a major jump in production and carve out a major role on their side of the ball. The Minnesota Vikings have a chance to have a large number of rookies and second-year guys step up, but the guys at PFF highlighted this wide receiver specifically.
When discussing second-year breakout candidates, Daire Carragher of PFF named Tai Felton as a breakout candidate. Felton has caught the eye of many for his camp performance so far, and has a chance to step up in 2026:
Felton's 4.37-second 40-yard dash speed should add an explosive element to a Vikings passing attack that desperately needs it after producing just 28 explosive passing plays from Week 11 onward last season, the fewest of any team not named the Jets.
We all saw the incredible catch he had in camp last week, and if he can stack days and put together a string of strong performances in the preseason, he could push Jauan Jennings for snaps as the WR3 on the depth chart in 2026.

Yesterday's 2-2 draw with Borussia Dortmund marked the official end of Roma's pre-season, a period filled with the usual highs, lows, hyperbole, and overreactions we see every August. While the Giallorossi looked much sharper in Dortmund than at any point during the summer schedule, there was still a noticeable lack of pace on the left side of the attack, a wrinkle they haven't been able to smooth out for several years.
Since Sunday is typically a day of rest, we'll spare you the trauma of recounting Roma's many failures in this department over the past few years. Instead, we'll focus on a relatively new name in the Giallorossi transfer web: Lyon left-winger Malick Fofana. A 21-year-old winger, Fofana began his professional career with Gent in his native Belgium before signing with Lyon on a €19.5 million transfer in January 2024.
In his first 18 months with the club, Fofana scored 15 goals and provided five ******* ists in roughly 1,000 minutes across all competitions, an impressive start for an 18- or 19-year-old making the jump to Ligue 1. Unfortunately, he wasn't able to build on that success last season after missing nearly six months due to ankle surgery. Still, during his brief time on the pitch last season, Fofana managed two goals and an ******* ist in 749 league minutes.
Despite the injuries, Fofana has the necessary pace and trickery to take flight under Gasperini. The problem, as you're no doubt aware, is cost and competition. According to Nicolo Schira, Roma have lodged an official €40 million bid for the Belgian international but face a stiff challenge from Galatasaray, which can offer Fofana a higher salary.
With opening day only a week away, the time for delays has long since passed. Whether it's Fofana, Rodrigo Mora, or a mysterious dark horse candidate, Roma's attack needs an injection of speed and creativity.

Only two weeks ago, Fed Chairman Kevin Warsh said markets had done "quite a bit" of the Fed's tightening. Wall Street has since taken it all back — and then some.
A gauge of US market conditions published by Bloomberg rose Thursday to its easiest level since 1996, capping a remarkable reversal from late July.
"Financial conditions" is Wall Street shorthand for how easy or hard markets are making it to take risk and raise money. Rising stocks, calmer markets, and cheaper corporate borrowing make them easier. Falling stocks and rising borrowing costs tighten the screws.
The index in the chart is especially geared toward those market signals, so this isn't saying mortgages or credit cards are suddenly cheap. It's saying Wall Street itself is unusually loose.
Between Warsh's first Fed meeting on June 17 and his next on July 29, Treasury yields rose, stocks slipped, volatility jumped, and corporate borrowing got more expensive. The Fed left its benchmark rate untouched at 3.5% to 3.75%, but markets tightened around it.

Payment giants Fiserv, Inc. (NASDAQ:FISV) and Mastercard Incorporated (NYSE:MA) announced a major strategic global partnership on August 4. The deal integrates Mastercard Merchant Cloud into Fiserv Commerce Hub, creating a unified connection for enterprise merchants across online, mobile, and in-store channels. Building on this momentum, Fiserv separately partnered with Stuut Technologies on August 5 to bring agentic AI-enabled automation to B2B enterprise receivables via SnapPay and Commerce Hub. While both agreements showcase how payment rails and software are converging, the underlying financial trajectories of these two companies present a stark contrast.

Mastercard Incorporated is operating at peak efficiency. In Q2 2026, net revenue rose 14% year-over-year (12% currency-neutral) to $9.3 billion, driven by an 8% increase in gross dollar volume to $2.9 trillion, a 12% jump in cross-border volume, and 20% growth in value-added services. Adjusted net income reached $4.5 billion, yielding an adjusted diluted EPS of $5.04, up 21% from Q2 2025. Operating margins expanded to an exceptional 61.1%, proving Mastercard's elite pricing power and operating leverage even as card issuance hit $3.7 billion.
Fiserv, Inc. (NASDAQ:FISV), on the other hand, faces execution hurdles in its corporate turnaround. In Q2 2026, GAAP revenue dropped 4% year-over-year to $5.29 billion, while adjusted revenue fell 4% to $4.96 billion. Adjusted EPS fell 26% to $1.84, missing Wall Street expectations. Top-line contraction was seen across both key segments: Merchant Solutions declined 1% organically, and Financial Solutions dropped 8%. Compounding the pressure, management slashed full-year 2026 organic revenue guidance to between (1%) and 0% (down from 1%–3%) and trimmed adjusted EPS guidance to $7.20–$7.40 (down from $8.00–$8.30), citing transformation costs and elevated technology spending.
Mastercard's bull case is supported by its dominant duopoly position, high operating margins of 61.1%, and strong secular tailwinds from the ongoing shift from cash to digital payments. The company's value-added services, including cybersecurity, fraud prevention, and ***** ytics, are expanding rapidly at around 20%, while resilient cross-border travel provides additional growth and downside protection. Truist ***** yst Matthew Coad highlighted these strengths when raising his price target for Mastercard to $633 from $554 while maintaining a Buy rating on August 5. On the downside, Mastercard's elevated valuation leaves limited room for execution missteps. Capital One's portfolio migration presents a near-term headwind, while increased regulatory scrutiny of swipe fees and a 22% rise in customer rebates in Q2 could pressure long-term yields.

Amar'e Stoudemire, who is being inducted into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame, was one of the handful of high school players to make the jump to the NBA and be successful.
He was selected with the ninth overall pick in the 2002 NBA Draft by the Phoenix Suns and made an immediate impact, winning the 2002-03 NBA Rookie of the Year.
As one of the catalysts of Mike D'Antoni's "Seven Seconds or Less" philosophy, along with fellow Hall of Famer Steve Nash, Stoudemire blossomed into one of the league's best power forwards before knee injuries slowed his career.
Stoudemire averaged 21.4 points and 8.3 rebounds during his first eight seasons with the Suns, then signed a five-year, $99.7 million contract with the New York Knicks.
Stoudemire finished his 14-year NBA career (2002-16) averaging 18.9 points and 7.8 rebounds, making six All-Star appearances.

Pizza chain Papa John's International, Inc. (NASDAQ:PZZA)'s shares are down by 49% over the past year and by 39% year-to-date. On the 6th, the shares closed a whopping 17.8% lower. The dip occurred after Papa John's International, Inc. (NASDAQ:PZZA) reported its second quarter earnings before market open. Looking at the report, it's unsurprising why the shares fell as the firm's second quarter revenue dipped by 8.8%, its system-wide restaurant sales dropped by 4.8% and net income dipped by $1 million to $8.7 million. Cramer hadn't been optimistic about Papa John's International, Inc. (NASDAQ:PZZA) ahead of the earnings and the latest results didn't change his mind:
"Think about how Domino's could make a comeback here. Pizza Hut, bought by private equity, always a bad sign. Papa John's, just terrible, and got rid of the dividend. Domino's, hold, I mean I think that maybe Domino's [inaudible] to stay here. Good CEO, good numbers coming, some new dishes."
Naturally, the latest results leave a lot to talk about Papa John's International, Inc. (NASDAQ:PZZA). To support the bearish point of view, the firm also announced a dividend suspension, cut its EBITDA guidance to a midpoint of $185 million from an earlier $200 million and announced that it would close between 200 and 250 North American stores in 2026. These metrics indicate a troubled business that doesn't inspire confidence. However, the earnings wasn't all bad as Papa John's International, Inc. (NASDAQ:PZZA) also delivered on the bottom line. During Q2, its adjusted earnings per share jumped to 46 cents from the earlier 41 cents. Percentage wise, the firm's gross, operating and net profit margins in Q2 marked 29 basis points, 18 basis points and four basis points jumps.
Comparing Papa John's International, Inc. (NASDAQ:PZZA) to Domino's Pizza Inc. (NASDAQ:DPZ) makes the picture clearer and explains Cramer's preference. While the shares are down by 23% over the past year and 18% year-to-date, the second quarter earnings painted a slightly better picture. Domino's Pizza Inc. (NASDAQ:DPZ)'s revenue of $1.19 billion was higher than ***** yst estimates and marked a 4.3% jump.
Yet, the firm's earnings missed ***** yst estimates and its US same-store sales also marked 0.1% growth which also missed estimates. Looking at these figures, it's clear that Domino's Pizza Inc. (NASDAQ:DPZ) isn't that far ahead of PZZA when it comes to performance. Yet, the firm's order count continued to grow in Q2 despite the overall turmoil in the industry. Looking at this, Cramer recommending 'hold' does make sense. However, Loop Capital downgraded the shares to Hold from Buy as it expressed skepticism about same-store sales growth.

Host Hotels & Resorts (NASDAQ:HST) held its second-quarter earnings call on August 6, and the numbers gave management enough confidence to raise full-year guidance by more than expected. Comparable hotel RevPAR climbed 7% to $251.53 in the quarter, and CEO James Risoleo pointed to luxury resort demand and a run of high-profile events as the drivers. That combination pushed the company to lift its 2026 RevPAR growth range by 125 basis points at the midpoint, to 4.75% to 5.25%.
Every demand segment moved in the same direction. Transient revenue rose 6.9% to $559 million, the strongest growth in seven quarters, while group room revenue grew 7.4% to $332 million on a sellout of 1.1 million room nights. The World Cup added roughly 160 basis points to second-quarter RevPAR growth, and RevPAR in World Cup host markets jumped 15% in June against 12% elsewhere. Maui kept recovering too, with RevPAR up 14% and occupancy up more than 8 percentage points, and golf revenue there now sits 9% ahead of levels seen before the wildfires.
Behind the quarter sits a longer bet on renovated properties. Host Hotels has poured about $2.1 billion into 34 hotels across its Marriott and Hyatt portfolios, a program expected to generate 60% of hotel EBITDA in 2026, and the 21 properties already stabilized have gained roughly 9 points of RevPAR index share on average. That reinvestment, plus a $500 million gain from selling its Four Seasons resorts, funded a $0.72 per share special dividend in July on top of the regular $0.20 payout, all while leverage held at 2.2 times.
CFO Sourav Ghosh was direct about what comes next, saying the company expects margin comparisons to moderate in the second half largely because rate growth will not repeat at the same pace. Much of the first half's strength leaned on tailwinds that fade as the year goes on, including the World Cup and a busy events calendar.
Costs are creeping in from other directions too. A Kona low rainstorm in Hawaii is expected to cause $27 million to $32 million in property damage, and while insurance should cover most of it, remediation alone runs about $2 million. The Four Seasons condo development at Walt Disney World, with 28 of 40 units closed, saw its 2026 EBITDA guidance trimmed to $16 million to $20 million from $20 million to $25 million purely on closing timing. Wage rates are still climbing 5% for the year, and labor makes up about half of total hotel operating expenses.

MercadoLibre (NASDAQ:MELI) just crossed $10 billion in quarterly revenue for the first time, yet the stock sits roughly 30% below its high. That gap between a record top line and a beaten-down share price is the whole story here. On the call covering the quarter ended June 30, held August 5, management laid out exactly why it is choosing growth over profit right now, and investors are still deciding whether to believe them.
Net revenue grew 50% year-over-year in the second quarter, powered by a 44% jump in gross merchandise volume and a 56% rise in total payment volume. The more interesting number sits underneath that headline. A year after MercadoLibre lowered its free shipping threshold in Brazil, items per buyer there climbed 19% year-over-year and conversion rose 1.1 percentage points, even as the company kept adding new buyers who typically spend less at first.
Management framed this as proof that existing shoppers are engaging more deeply, not just a bigger crowd showing up. That matters most for what the company calls ecosystemic users, people who use both the marketplace and Mercado Pago. Those users generated 70% more GMV and 55% more items sold per user than marketplace-only shoppers, and contribution profit per ecosystemic user runs multiples above a marketplace or fintech user alone. The credit book backs this up. It reached $16.4 billion, up 75% year-over-year, while delinquency rates sat near historical lows and net interest margin after losses improved from 18% to 21% between the first and second quarters.
That growth came at a real cost. Operating income fell from $825 million to $683 million, and operating margin narrowed from 12.2% to 6.7%, a 550 basis point drop from a year earlier. Management did not suggest relief is coming soon, calling the trade-off a deliberate choice to keep prioritizing long-term engagement and scale over near-term profitability. Net income for the first half of 2026 fell 13% year-over-year to $883 million even as revenue climbed 50% to $19 billion, a gap that shows growth and profit are currently moving in opposite directions.
Competitors including Amazon have pushed MercadoLibre to compete harder on price, and the company's expansion into consumer lending has meant absorbing more loan losses along the way. The quarter also demanded serious capital, with $441 million in capital expenditures and $2.1 billion funneled into growing the credit portfolio, leaving adjusted free cash flow at $214 million.

On August 6, Curtiss-Wright (NYSE:CW) held its second quarter 2026 earnings call and reported that the company's sales climbed 5% year-over-year to $924 million, but the real story was underneath. Operating income grew 12%, more than double the pace of revenue, pushing margins up 110 basis points, and free cash flow jumped 37% to $160 million. Management liked what it saw enough to raise full-year guidance across the board, and that raise is worth digging into.
Orders are the clearest signal here. Second quarter bookings rose 8%, giving Curtiss-Wright a book-to-bill above 1.1x, and year-to-date orders are up 12% against 9% sales growth, a book-to-bill above 1.2x, usually a preview of what revenue looks like a few quarters out. Defense Electronics led the charge, with orders up nearly 50% year-over-year in the quarter and more than 30% year-to-date, fueled by turret drive stabilization systems for international ground vehicles and tactical communications gear for the US Army, Marine Corps and Air Force.
The Aerospace & Industrial segment stood out, with sales up 12%, operating income up 25% and margin expansion of 180 basis points, helped by demand for actuation equipment on the Army's IFPC program. Naval & Power is leaning on submarine production timing and the CVN-81 carrier program, with full-year sales guidance there raised to 7% to 9% growth.
Commercial nuclear is the multi-year lever management keeps pointing to. In June 2026, the Department of Energy issued a conditional $17.5 billion loan commitment for up to 10 new Westinghouse AP1000 reactors, and Curtiss-Wright's reactor coolant pumps are expected to be among the long-lead equipment purchased. A DOE launch customer toured the company's operations in July 2026 and came away impressed, and management expects an AP1000 order before year-end.
Not every segment cooperated. Defense Electronics sales fell 3% as tactical communications orders shifted timing, though the segment still posted a 28% operating margin. Naval & Power orders also declined year over year, driven by the timing of submarine defense orders, a reminder that this business runs on lumpy government contracts.
