NEW YORK (AP) — Bob Mackie, the fashion designer whose visually provocative Hollywood style defined glamour for the 1970s — including putting Carol Burnett in some of her kookiest getups and Cher in her raciest ones — died Monday. He was 87.
"He lived his 87 years to the fullest, fulfilling his dream of being a Fashion and Costume Designer, which is all he ever wanted to do," a read statement on his social media accounts. "His genius and extraordinary designs will live on forever, continuing to bring beauty into this world."
Dubbed the "Designer to the Stars," Mackie won nine Emmy Awards, a Tony Award and was nominated for three Oscars, including one for Barbra Streisand's "Funny Lady," in which she wore a sheer batwing gown. He was inducted into the Academy of Television Arts & Science's Hall of Fame in 2002.
He designed gowns for Madonna, Barbra Streisand, Sharon Stone, Diana Ross and Julia Louis-Dreyfus, and concert costumes for Pink. When Marilyn Monroe delivered a breathy, seductive take on "Happy Birthday" at a fundraiser for President John F. Kennedy and the Democratic National Committee, she did it in a sheer, beaded gown that Mackie dreamed up in a sketch.

The beginning of the Washington Commanders' season is not for the weak. NEW DELHI: Social media has found a fun new way to bring the 1980s back, with AI turning modern-day pictures into vintage portraits. The trend has now reached the Indian cricket team, with several players enjoying a hilarious surprise ahead of their T20I series against Afghanistan in Delhi.
Two days before the series, the Indian players gathered at their hotel for a photo session. But before it began, they found a table filled with AI-generated pictures of themselves.
The portraits, featured in a video shared by the BCCI, showed the players in classic 1980s looks, complete with bell-bottom jeans, big sunglasses and retro hairstyles.
India allrounder Axar Patel and Abhishek Sharma picked up the portraits and burst out laughing as they showed them to their teammates. Jasprit ****** rah also joined in the fun.

Washington Commanders head coach Dan Quinn is beloved by his players. Whether it was during his time as a position coach, defensive coordinator, or now in his second tenure as an NFL head coach, Quinn is loved and respected across the NFL.
There's a reason why you hear other prominent players on rival teams express their love and respect for Quinn, such as Micah Parsons. Most recently, Quinn has taken a special interest in Washington's first-round pick, linebacker Sonny Styles. During training camp, Quinn referenced a conversation he had with Styles about making mistakes.
"We're chasing hard to have absolute elite execution," Quinn said last month. "I also recognize there are gonna be mistakes, and I want them to happen when you're working right on the edge of something; you're going to make them. I encouraged Sonny just the other day: make them. I want you to test yourself to see: Can I go to that ****** e to get the ball? Can I be in that location? Can I go take my shot? I want them right on the edge, knowing that mistakes are part of it, and then when they happen, that they don't get repeated. And so, that's the execution piece."

Last night in New York City, the Kering Foundation held its fifth annual Caring for Women dinner in the midst of New York Fashion Week. Co-hosted by founders (and spouses) Salma Hayek and François-Henri Pinault, the event raises money to end gender-based violence, and it's become one of the starriest fundraisers of September—as well as a ****** e where the stars can get a bit daring with their looks.
This year, one of the most memorable ensembles of the night came courtesy of Pamela Anderson. Days after making a statement in a bright orange dress at the amfAR Gala Venezia, the queen of makeup-free red-carpet appearances turned heads again in an elegant all-black look that exuded classic Hollywood bombshell glamour.

The defending U.S. Open champion knocked off this year's Wimbledon champion 7-6(1), 3-6, 7-6(7), by reversing the narrative of her season since April.
When Nosková's unflappability under pressure left the world No. 1 facing a 4-2 deficit in the third set — as well as the loss of her ranking — Sabalenka did not spiral to defeat, as she has done several times the past few months.
Instead, she found the indomitable poise and unstoppable power that has carried her to the top of the sport, advancing to a sixth consecutive U.S. Open semifinal.

West Bromwich Albion left-back Callum Styles has said he has taken on more of a leadership role in the side after the departures of several experienced players and the arrival of younger talent during the summer transfer window.
Seven new arrivals at The Hawthorns were aged 23 or younger, while three players aged over 30 made their exits this summer alongside Karlan Grant and Kristian Bielik, both 28, and 27-year-old Josh Maja.
The plan to bring more youth into the team means Styles, 26, is one of the older members of the squad.
"I think that's natural [to step into leadership] when you've played a lot of games in the Championship and you're getting older season by season," Styles told BBC Radio WM.

Iowa's safety position will look different this season. Xavier Nwankpa went on to the NFL, where he has found a home with the Kansas City Chiefs. His starting safety partner, Koen Entringer, transferred to Louisville not long after.
With a pair of talented defensive backs departing the program, Kirk Ferentz knew he had to hit the transfer portal to fill that roster hole.
Ferentz and the Hawkeyes did exactly that, bringing in a trio of transfer safeties: third-year Tyler Brown from James Madison, third-year Xavier Styles from Robert Morris and third-year Anthony Hawkins from Villanova. Brown was the most highly regarded of the group, with many expecting him to start right away on the back end.
However, an offseason injury has put a wrench in those plans.

ANYWAY, Cara Conseugra has a new Golden Eagle on her Marquette women's basketball roster for 2026-27, as MU announced the signing of Amina Traore at 10am Central time on Monday, the first day of classes for fall semester.
Traore is a 6'2" center from Paris, and yes, I mean the one in France, not the one in Kenosha County.
Here's what Consuegra said in the press release:
"Amina brings a unique combination of physicality, versatility and experience that will make an immediate impact on our program," Consuegra said. "She has competed at a high level in France against a variety of styles and competition, and that experience shows in her maturity, adaptability and understanding of the game. The death of adult film actor Christian Styles is under investigation after police responded to his Michigan home over the weekend.
Styles, whose real name was Zachary Jaghab, died on Aug. 20 at 29 years old. Canton Township Police Chief Joseph Bialy told TMZ that officers were called to Styles' residence Saturday afternoon following a report of a "non-responsive adult male."
Bialy said Styles' family contacted authorities, though he did not identify who discovered him and placed the call.
Canton Township Police have since opened a death investigation alongside the Wayne County Medical Examiner's Office. Styles' body was taken by the medical examiner for an autopsy that will seek to determine both his cause and manner of death.
