At the Solheim Cup, we watched pros do something difficult that a lot of average golfers attempt, too: play team golf. It's different from typical stroke play, or even one-on-one match play events. Pros, like the test of us, usually play their own ball. But in the Netherlands, they had to play with a partner in foursomes and four-ball. It's a serious change from what they're used to.
Making that shift from playing your own ball to playing a team format might be something you struggle with, too. We talked to Megan Johnston, a Golf Digest Best Young Teacher at Big Cedar who played on the Northern Ireland junior team with Solheim Cup standout Leona Maguire, about how average players can more seamlessly make the transition into team play.
"The biggest adjustment for the average golfer is realizing that the goal of the format may not be to shoot your lowest individual score," Johnston explains. "In four-ball, foursomes or a scramble, you're making decisions based on what your team needs. That changes everything—from club selection, to risk management, to how aggressive you should be at the right times."

Several of architect David McLay Kidd's most popular courses have focused on extreme and creative playability, with Gamble Sands in Washington and Mammoth Dunes at Sand Valley in Wisconsin as prime examples. Even his first-ever design, the original Bandon Dunes layout at the famed resort of the same name in Oregon, put playability at the forefront.
Kidd had a few deviations from the playability theme in his career, but in recent years he has talked at length about designing courses that are approachable for any level of golfer. The trick, he has said, is to challenge the best players while allowing less-skilled golfers to keep swinging.
Consider that challenge accepted at Bone Valley in Florida, his latest completed creation that will open in late September for preview play at the well-regarded Streamsong Resort. Built with an appreciation of the resort's other courses and with those layouts' DNA in mind, Kidd has constructed a new, full-sized 18 that offers ample width and plenty of opportunities to bounce **** into greens – those are keys to playability for less-skilled players.
But just as megalodon shark teeth can be found in the sand piles left over from the site's history as a phosphate mining operation, Bone Valley can offer a bit of a bite. Stray too far from the best scoring lines, and even the best players will struggle with the angles as they attempt to set up birdie putts.
"My team and I felt like we got to build something really, really fun both visually, strategically, creatively," Kidd said. "I think golfers, when they come here, won't be disappointed. I think they'll have a blast trying to figure out how to navigate their way through. I think every hole has a dozen different attacks you could make, a thousand different ways you could recover from error. It's not overly penal, but she is going to put up a fight against scoring. I think I've been able to refine that over the last dozen years or so."

Dr. Frank Domino was one of the more than 800 volunteers at the FM Championship, the LPGA Tour stop at TPC Boston last weekend.
He didn't instruct fans where to park or urge them to keep quiet while a golfer was about to take a shot. No, he offered his services to the golfers as a doctor.
Dr. Domino, a Northborough resident, is an attending physician and a professor in the Department of Family Medicine and Community Health at the UMass Chan Medical School.
Last year, he emailed FM Championship tournament director Patrick Healy to ask if the tournament needed volunteers and Healy told him his services as a doctor would come in handy for the players.
So for the past two FM Championships, he has volunteered as the on-site, on-call tournament physician for the players and their families.

Sep. 1—ABERDEEN — In a deep field of individual standouts and top teams, the Mitchell High School boys golf team finished tied for 12th on Tuesday at the Hub City Invitational at Lee Park Golf Course.
Mitchell shot 317 as a team, which was the Kernels' second-best team score of the season so far, but it still landed Mitchell well off the pace of the top teams.
Sioux Falls Lincoln and O'Gorman tied with 294 team strokes at the top, as Lincoln won the second tiebreaker because the Patriots' sixth golfer scored better than O'Gorman's. Both teams' fifth golfer shot 74, moving the tiebreaker down to the No. 6 slot on each varsity team.
The individual medalist honors went to Aberdeen Roncalli's Harper Schnabel, who shot 3-under-68 to win the tournament by two strokes. Schnabel had five birdies in the round, including shooting 2-under-par on the course's back nine. Marc Ehudin had to wait more than seven hours on Sunday to see if he had reached the match play portion of the U.S. Senior Amateur Championship at Baltimore Country Club in Lutherville.
The wait is over — temporarily.
Ehudin, a Pikesville native and Gilman graduate who now lives in Potomac, learned he will take part in a playoff to determine whether he will be among the top 64 golfers in the match play round. He and 12 others will compete for three spots on Monday at 7:30 a.m. beginning at Hole No. 9 on the East Course.
"To not know where I stood the entire day and then find out, 'OK, I've got to kick it back into gear tomorrow and focus and get ready to play again,' I've got some mental adjusting to do tonight, but I will be very excited tomorrow," said Ehudin, who turned 63 last Monday. "This is a really new experience for me. Didn't get this far two years ago. So a mixture of wishing I had done better yesterday and excitement for what could be tomorrow. We'll see."
Ehudin carded a 5-over 75 on Sunday after opening with a 6-over 76 on Saturday for a two-day total of 11-over 151. That put him on the bubble until about 7 p.m. when he learned he was tied for 62nd.

Three LPGA golfers have won consecutive tournaments in 2026. Might there be a fourth this week?

FRIENDSVILLE — Abington Heights had a strong showing at the Ann Marie Simons Classic girls golf tournament Tuesday.
Senior Brianna Moffatt shot a 5-over-par 75 at Tall Pines Players Club to capture the individual ******* le by one stroke over Honesdale junior Marley Reynolds. Teammates Margot Grad and Liz George each shot 82 with Grad taking third place on a match of cards.
Their efforts gave the Lady Comets the team ******* le with a score of 239. Riverside was second with 267 and Elk Lake third with 272.
George wound up winning low-senior honors, while Molly Nietz of Abington Heights was low freshman with 101. North Pocono's Julia Biko was low junior with an 86 and Hannah LaRue from Elk Lake was low sophomore with an 87.
"Coming in I felt confident they were going to do well," Abington Heights coach Ed Bath said. "They've really progressed in their games, especially with the mental part of the game; their maturity with decision-making out on the golf course and playing the golf course as it's presented to them. Just in what I could see out there, I saw some good decisions being made as golfers and executing those decisions. They all kind of shot right around their averages thus far this year, which again is indicative to that good, mental approach to golf. I think they did a great job."

Aug. 25 (UPI) -- Elite golfers will compete in a two-week match play competition to cap the PGA Tour Championship Series starting in 2028, officials announced Tuesday.
The PGA Tour announced in June that it would revamp its playoff system with a new competitive structure, which includes the Championship Series and PGA Tour Challenger Series.
"From the beginning, the goal of the future competition committee was to create an easier-to-follow competitive model for our fans with greater consequence and a stronger season-long narrative," PGA Tour CEO Brian Rolapp said in a news release.
"Throughout this process, we listened carefully to our fans, players and partners. One message came through clearly: the culmination of our season should be worthy of the journey it takes to get there."
Participants in the Championship Series will compete in 72-hole tournaments and be measured through a season-long points system. The season, which will run from February to August, will feature about two dozen events, including the Players Championship, majors and international team events.

LeBron James and the PGA Tour have teamed up to announce the LeBron James Family Foundation Invitational, a two-day event at Firestone Country Club for underrepresented aspiring golfers.
The experience will connect students in the LeBron James Family Foundation's I PROMISE program with professional golfers who advanced through the PGA Tour's Pathway to Progression Pro-Bound Five program.
The inaugural event is scheduled for July 6-7, 2027. Firestone Country Club recently hosted its final Kaulig Companies Championship, which is moving to Newport Beach, California. Firestone had a 72-year run of hosting a PGA Tour event, notably the Bridgestone Invitational that Tiger Woods dominated for much of the 2000s and 2010s.

James recently launched a YouTube channel as he brings people along his own golf journey. This new partnership is aimed at opening some doors to the game of golf that some might not have previously had to the same degree.

The experience will connect students in the LeBron James Family Foundation's I PROMISE program with professional golfers who advanced through the PGA Tour's Pathway to Progression Pro-Bound Five program.
The inaugural event is scheduled for July 6-7, 2027. Firestone Country Club recently hosted its final Kaulig Companies Championship, which is moving to Newport Beach, California. Firestone had a 72-year run of hosting a PGA Tour event, notably the Bridgestone Invitational that Tiger Woods dominated for much of the 2000s and 2010s.

JUPITER — An unsung hero helped Benjamin boys golf begin their ****** le defense on the front foot.
Matthew Stigliano shot a 70 (2-under) to lead the Buccaneers against Winter Park on Friday afternoon at Bear's Club in Jupiter.
Benjamin bested their Orlando-based opponents by 18 strokes, with each team fielding eight golfers to get their complete rosters involved in the action.

The LIV Golf season (and league as we know it) is over.
A handful of golfers were relegated from the league following the conclusion of LIV Golf Indianapolis on Sunday at The Club at Chatham Hills. Michael La Sasso became the league's youngest winner, but him winning knocked one of his HyFlyers teammates below the relegation line.
LIV Golf insists the league's next iteration will continue in 2027, but some tumultuous weeks are likely to follow and will determine whether LIV does exist into the future. If it does, however, it will look nothing like it did in 2026.
If LIV 2.0 does happen, these players are going to have to find new pathways back onto the league after being relegated.

An ordinary round of golf turned into an extraordinary masterclass as an English amateur defied astronomical odds to card eight birdies across just nine holes.
Allan Harrison started his round at Fairhaven Golf Club with four dropped shots down the front nine before a "pasty and a drink" at the halfway house gave him a burst of life.
The 64-year-old then fired seven consecutive birdies and eight in nine holes - a run of form rarely seen in professional golf, let alone at an amateur level.
Harrison has some prowess as a former foursomes partner of Tommy Fleetwood at Southport and Ainsdale Golf Club.

It has been quite a few months for Wyndham Clark and girlfriend, Emily Tanner, who revealed their relationship in style at the Masters. The couple "hard launched" their relationship in Augusta as Tanner served as Clark's caddie at the Masters Par 3 Contest.
PGA Tour golfers often select their significant others as the caddie for the annual event. Months later, it appears things have gotten serious for Clark and his girlfriend.
During the BMW Championship, Tanner announced that she plans to move from California. Clark's girlfriend hinted that she intends to move in with Clark.
"I cannot believe I'm about to say this, but I am moving," Tanner revealed in an Instagram video posted on August 20, 2026. "I have lived in California for the last five years and honestly, I never thought that I would leave here.
"I think one of the most special parts about falling in love is realizing that the life you've pictured for yourself can completely change when you find someone that you want to build it with," Tanner continued.

If Yasir Al-Rumayyan, governor of Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund (PIF), was looking for a reason to pull its money out of the LIV Golf tour, he reportedly found it in Sergio Garcia's outburst at the Masters in April.
That's the claim in Friday's edition of The Financial Times.
"In April, as LIV golfers floundered at the Masters, golf's most prestigious tournament, Spanish star Sergio Garcia damaged the Augusta National course during a fit of rage in the final round," read the Times. "People familiar with the matter say Rumayyan's embarrassment at the sequence of events helped lead to his decision to pull the plug on PIF's financing of the rival tour, as the fund focuses more on its huge domestic commitments in the kingdom."
Now, one's first thought is likely that many factors led the PIF to pull its funding from LIV, which has consistently lost money amid poor ratings and bad PR since its brief moment in the sun. However, when you look at the timing of everything, it kinda checks out.
Garcia's meltdown, which included him slamming his driver in frustration, tearing out chunks of grass, and breaking it against a cooler, took place on Sunday, April 12, the final day of the 2026 Masters.
