Tommy John, who won 288 games over a 26-year MLB career died at the age of 83.
John played for six teams from 1963-89. He spent eight years with the Yankees, seven with the White Sox, and six with the Los Angeles Dodgers. John won 91 games as a Yankee, 87 for LA and 82 with the White Sox.
He is also known as the namesake of a pioneering surgery after suffering a torn UCL in 1974. The procedure where a tendon was taken from the wrist and placed in the elbow, gave John his career back and has become commonplace in saving pitchers from having their baseball runs end.
"The New York Yankees mourn the passing of Tommy John, who was a bedrock of our rotation during his time in pinstripes and a longtime favorite of Yankees fans. While his incredible longevity and post-surgery achievements changed the fortunes and trajectory of countless athletes around the world, it also overshadowed his excellence as a pitcher, which included consecutive 20‑win seasons with the Yankees. We pause to remember the totality of his legacy — his competitiveness and skill, his penchant for conversation, his kind and gracious nature, and his stature as an athletic and medical pioneer. The Yankees extend our deepest condolences to his family and friends, including wife, Cheryl, daughter, Tamara, and sons Tommy III and Travis. We also keep his son Taylor in our hearts."

The San Francisco 49ers' injury report added two more names Wednesday, and it didn't take long for two more players to join them before practice was over.
Defensive tackle Gracen Halton (ankle) and right guard Dominick Puni (concussion) were held out of practice, according to NBC Sports Bay Area's Matt Maiocco. Puni's absence is a particular concern for an offensive line that has already been shuffling personnel through the opening weeks of camp, with Connor Colby working into the mix at left guard. Losing Puni to the concussion protocol, even temporarily, forces San Francisco to lean further on its depth up front.
Halton's ankle issue adds to a defensive tackle room that's already been thin. The 49ers waived Mikail Kamara with an injury designation earlier in camp after he tore his ACL, and rookie C.J. West has been trying to establish himself in the rotation. That group took another hit Wednesday when West and edge rusher ***** us Leo were both shaken up and left practice early, per the same report. Their statuses weren't immediately known, but any extended absence would thin out a front seven that's already dealing with attrition. Halton was enjoying a nice preseason before this injury.
The new additions come on top of an offseason and camp that has been rough on San Francisco's roster. Wide receiver Ricky Pearsall was placed on season-ending injured reserve because of lingering issues from last year's PCL injury, and the receiver room has been further strained by Mike Evans (quad), Christian Kirk (calf) and De'Zhaun Stribling (hamstring) all missing time. Evans and Stribling are back, at least, and Stribling enjoyed a great preseason debut against the ***** ans.
Running back Jordan James is also out with fractured ribs, and George Kittle opened camp on the active/PUP list as he continues working back from a torn Achilles.

LSU football faced a depth problem at defensive end heading into the offseason. It addressed by keeping multiple highly-rated 2026 commits and bringing in proven talent from the transfer portal. Defensive coordinator Blake Baker shared confidence in the group during fall camp.
Baker highlighted Ole Miss transfer Princewill Umanmielen and Tennessee transfer Jordan Ross, saying he's seen "a lot of growth" since their arrival in the spring. He also highlighted redshirt junior Dylan Carpenter, who developed into a key depth piece in 2025.
"Dylan Carpenter is a guy that he's absolutely been outstanding," Baker said. "When you talk about where he came in as a freshman to where he is now, you know, you don't see that much anymore because a lot of times they'll leave before that, but, man, I can't be more complimentary to him."
The Tigers lack experience down the depth chart past their starters on the defensive line, but Baker showed confidence in young guys like five-star true freshman Lamar Brown and redshirt sophomore Kolaj Cobbins. He feels LSU displays balance with different strengths, which will be the key to success.
"I feel good about our depth," Baker said. "I think we have some really good explosion off the edge as well and they're all complimentary of each other. Some guys have really good strengths in one area compared to another, so we're going to be able to play around with those weapons."

The Miami Dolphins have lost guard/tackle Jamaree Salyer for the season, placing him on injured reserve.
Salyer was expected to be Miami's top reserve offensive lineman, after signing away from the Chargers.
This makes the addition of tackle/guard Caedan Wallace, in a recent trade with the Patriots, even more important.
Miami also re-signed undrafted rookie quarterback Mark Gronowski. Backups Quinn Ewers and Cam Miller struggled in Miami's preseason opener.
Gronowski's best strength may be his ability to run.

Jordan Seaton arrived at LSU football as the nation's top transfer portal offensive lineman after two years as a starter at Colorado. He came into a room of returners and fellow transfers. The left tackle said the unit built trust over the offseason.
"I think being with each other for a long period of time is a great thing and not only that, just trying to build that non-verbal communication," Seaton said. "I think that's huge in a game where it's a stadium of 110, 105, 100,000 at that. Just being able to know what's what and being able to have those non-verbal communication, I think that goes very well with playing and playing together and practicing together."
LSU experienced instability at offensive line last year between injuries and shifting positions. The Tigers' inconsistent offensive line played a large role in LSU falling short of expectations in 2025. LSU ranked 129th in offensive line yards and 80th in pass blocking efficiency.
LSU retained fifth-year senior Braelin Moore at center along with left guard Bo Bordelon and right tackle Weston Davis. Combined with Seaton and Aliou Bah, the Tigers have a solidified starting five early in fall camp.
But Seaton says the camaraderie extends beyond the projected starters down the depth chart. He sees every offensive lineman as important to the unit's success throughout the 2026 season.

Some days, Tamara Johnson wonders how her life changed so rapidly.
Johnson, 58, made six figures in an executive leadership position, and when her mother was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease and dementia in 2017, she moved from New Orleans to Virginia, where she continued to work while caring for her mother.
Three years after her mom's death in 2020, Johnson's husband suffered a series of catastrophic medical events. To care for him full-time, she took a temporary leave and then quit her job this year. She relied on income from her job's deferred resignation program and her savings to pay for his long-term care. Johnson estimates her family spent over $700,000 in total between her mom's and husband's care. Coming up with that money has been harder, as her husband's income from medical disability retirement was quartered.
"I was one of those people who was taught that you don't quit, you suck it up, and you keep going," Johnson said. "I felt like I didn't have the luxury of falling apart, because if I fell apart, then who would pick up the slack?"

The Baltimore Ravens entered training camp with zero mystery surrounding the top of their quarterback depth chart. Lamar Jackson remains one of the NFL's elite quarterbacks, and Tyler Huntley has proven he can capably step into the lineup when called upon.
The questions don't begin until we ask who's third on the depth chart. After Saturday night's preseason opening win against the Philadelphia Eagles, that competition may be much closer to a conclusion than it was a week ago.
Joe ****** nano received the longest look of any Ravens quarterback, taking over for Huntley in the second quarter and remaining in the game until Baltimore's second drive of the fourth quarter. The extended workload felt significant, and ****** nano made the most of it. By the end of the evening, the undrafted rookie had completed 22 of 28 passes for 224 yards, one touchdown and one interception.
Fagnano looked comfortable running the offense and consistently delivered the football where it needed to go. His physical tools have never been the primary selling point of his game. No one is going to confuse him with Jackson when it comes to arm strength or athletic ability. What the rookie does possess, however, is accuracy, and that was on display throughout Saturday's contest.
Time and again, ****** nano delivered catchable footballs to his receivers, allowing them to make plays after the catch. Whether he was targeting Elijah Sarratt, Matthew Hibner or Ja'Kobi Lane, the ball frequently arrived on time and on target.

VfL Wolfsburg went into the Niedersachsen derby against Hannover 96 as clear favourites. With their squad quality and financial resources, the Wolves are expected to be among the strongest teams in the 2. Bundesliga this season. But, much like on the opening matchday, it was their opponents who looked like the better team on the pitch.
Hannover dominated the first half and created the more dangerous opportunities. The hosts repeatedly tested Wolfsburg goalkeeper Jakub Zieliński from distance, while the visitors struggled to impose themselves on the game.
Wolfsburg were not completely without chances, though. New signing Muhammed Damar was particularly active and created some promising situations for the visitors, but neither side managed to break the deadlock before the break.
The second half followed a similar pattern. Hannover continued to look more threatening, while the intensity increased in the challenges as the derby became increasingly physical.
The hosts came closest when substitute Benedikt Pichler found himself with the best chance of the match. However, he could not convert, leaving Hannover to rue another missed opportunity.

Coach Mark Few put the Gonzaga Bulldogs program and the university in Spokane, Washington, on the map. An underdog who built something that was never supposed to happen at a tiny Jesuit institution in the Inland Northwest.
Forget all the wins, championships, and NBA pedigree from its alumni for a second; his presence helped the school's enrollment and finances throughout the last 27 years. Helping grow other educational disciplines, such as mine with the Department of Integrated Media, and others. This situation for both parties was a match made in heaven from the beginning.
Along with Few, the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame's Class of 2026 inducted coach Doc Rivers, coach Mike D'Antoni, forward/center Amar'e Stoudemire, forward Chamique Holdsclaw, forward Candace Parker, forward Elena Delle Donne, referee Joey Crawford, and the 1996 U.S. Olympic Women's Basketball Team. The group received their "Naismith Orange" jackets the day before at the Mohegan Sun in Uncasville, Connecticut.
In attendance for Few's ceremony were, first and foremost, his family: wife Marcy Laca, sons AJ, Joe, Colt, and daughter Julia. His presenters were Hall of Famer John Stockton, Arkansas Razorbacks coach John Calipari, and Managing Director of USA Basketball Grant Hill.
Arizona Wildcats coach Tommy Lloyd, former Villanova Wildcats coach Jay Wright, sportscaster Neil Everett showed their love for Few. As well as some of his past and current staff members like **** istant coaches Brian Michaelson, RJay Barsh, Zach Norvell, Dan Monson, Bill Grier, Ray Giacoletti, Ricky Fois, and Roger Powell.

Former Phoenix Suns greats Amar'e Stoudemire and Mike D'Antoni delivered their Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame induction speeches on Aug. 15 in Springfield, Massachusetts.
Here's what Stoudemire and D'Antoni said about their time in Phoenix as both received standing ovations at the conclusion of their speeches at Symphony Hall.
"Playing for Phoenix as a rookie was important for me. As a high school player, growing up in Florida, you know, you're going to the NBA, and it's a different world. And to have an organization that understood that and really brought me in, and really molded me as a basketball player, helped me to become who I am today."
A McDonald's All-American who endured an unstable upbringing, Stoudemire had verbally committed to play at Memphis under then head coach John Calipari, but he elected to enter the 2002 NBA Draft.
"I had a pre-draft workout with a couple of teams, worked out in Phoenix. I had a brilliant workout. I felt great about that, and I was drafted ninth to the Phoenix Suns as a high schooler. At that time, Jerry Colangelo was the owner, Bryan Colangelo was GM. Rick Welts was there. So, I was ready to try to take on this journey of the NBA as a high schooler, a true high schooler."

Amar'e Stoudemire, who is being inducted into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame, was one of the handful of high school players to make the jump to the NBA and be successful.
He was selected with the ninth overall pick in the 2002 NBA Draft by the Phoenix Suns and made an immediate impact, winning the 2002-03 NBA Rookie of the Year.
As one of the catalysts of Mike D'Antoni's "Seven Seconds or Less" philosophy, along with fellow Hall of Famer Steve Nash, Stoudemire blossomed into one of the league's best power forwards before knee injuries slowed his career.
Stoudemire averaged 21.4 points and 8.3 rebounds during his first eight seasons with the Suns, then signed a five-year, $99.7 million contract with the New York Knicks.
Stoudemire finished his 14-year NBA career (2002-16) averaging 18.9 points and 7.8 rebounds, making six All-Star appearances.

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (AP) — Elena Delle Donne and Candace Parker's WNBA careers were intertwined with so many great moments.
Now they are forever bonded, enshrined into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame as part of the 2026 class Saturday night. They were joined by the 1996 U.S. Olympic women's basketball team, Chamique Holdsclaw, NBA player Amar'e Stoudemire, longtime NBA official Joey Crawford, NBA coaches Doc Rivers and Mike D'Antoni, and Gonzaga coach Mark Few.
Delle Donne turned her speech into a love letter to the game of basketball with all the ups and downs she faced in her career. But she always kept life in perspective, thanks to her older sister Lizzie, who is blind and deaf.
"She never played in front of thousands of people, never had a standing ovation. never been interviewed after a big win. Yet I've never met anyone stronger," Delle Donne said, choking up. "Thank you all for keeping me going."
Delle Donne won MVP awards in 2015 and 2019, the second of which came when she led the Washington Mystics to their lone WNBA championship. Delle Donne became the first player in league history to shoot more than 50% from the field, 40% from behind the 3-point line and 90% from the free-throw line.

The Baltimore Ravens have controlled much of the first half against the Philadelphia Eagles, taking a 7-0 lead into halftime Saturday night at M&T Bank Stadium. The scoreboard does not fully reflect Baltimore's offensive advantage. The Ravens have generated 233 total yards compared with Philadelphia's 81, picked up 14 first downs to the Eagles' two and averaged 6.7 yards per play.
Rookie quarterback Joe ******* nano has provided one of the biggest stories. ******* nano completed 11 of 14 passes for 118 yards and a touchdown, although he also threw an interception. His touchdown went to fellow rookie Ja'Kobi Lane, who continued his impressive preseason debut with three catches for 38 yards and a score.
Lane's touchdown came on a 15-yard connection with ******* nano and followed a 19-yard reception earlier in the game. Lamar Jackson praised Lane's aggressiveness and ability to attack the football during a sideline interview, saying the rookie's ceiling is extremely high. Baltimore's passing game has been efficient beyond Lane. Matthew Hibner leads the Ravens with four catches for 52 yards, while Devontez Walker and Elijah Sarratt have each added three receptions for more than 30 yards.
Tyler Huntley also has been effective after taking over at quarterback. He has completed 6 of 7 passes for 76 yards and has added a different dimension to the offense with his mobility.
The Ravens have not been perfect. ******* nano's interception prevented another scoring opportunity, and Tyler Loop missed a field goal. Baltimore has also been held to only 46 rushing yards.

NBA star Amar'e Stoudemire and longtime coach Glenn "Doc" Rivers were among nine inductees into the Basketball Hall of Fame on Saturday.
Joey Crawford, an NBA referee for 39 seasons, and veteran coaches Mike D'Antoni and Mark Few were also among those enshrined in ceremonies at the Hall in Springfield, Massachusetts.
Women inductees included Candace Parker, Elena Delle Donne and Chamique Holdsclaw, along with the unbeaten 1996 US Olympic gold medal team.
Rivers, who resigned as coach of the Milwaukee Bucks in April, has an NBA coaching record of 1,194-866 over 27 seasons with Orlando, Boston, the Los Angeles Clippers, Philadelphia and Milwaukee.
"It's so funny. Never in my life did I dream that I would be a coach or be good at it," Rivers said. "To be going in the Hall now, my mom had this saying, 'For the good or bad of it, you're right where you're supposed to be.'"

Ja'Kobi Lane's impressive Ravens debut has already earned the attention of the most important player in Baltimore's offense. Lamar Jackson had high praise for the rookie wide receiver after Lane caught a 15-yard touchdown from Joe ******* nano in the second quarter of Saturday's preseason opener against the Philadelphia Eagles.
Speaking during a sideline interview, Jackson pointed specifically to the traits that have made Lane such a popular player throughout training camp.
"Man, his aggressiveness to go get the ball – he's attacking the ball," Jackson said. "Big hands, tough receiver. That's what we need. We need that. ... It's amazing. The sky is the limit for him."
The comments carry weight because Jackson has spent the summer building chemistry with Lane during training camp. Baltimore's official practice reports have repeatedly highlighted Lane's ability to make difficult catches, including contested grabs against established defensive backs.
That chemistry was on display before Lane's touchdown. The rookie had already recorded a 19-yard reception across the middle, giving him multiple opportunities to demonstrate the physical traits that made him an intriguing third-round selection.

On falling short of NBA ******* le in Phoenix with 'Seven Seconds or Less' Mike D'Antoni: "I just I think that we could have easily, you know, my first year there as a head coach (in 2004-05) or the third year (2006-07), won a championship. We had a really good chance, even the second year (2005-06) without Amar'e (Stoudemire), to get into the finals. I don't know if we would've won or not."

Amar'e Stoudemire is set to enter the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame during the Enshrinement Ceremony in Springfield, Massachusetts, tonight.
An achievement of this magnitude would lead to Stoudemire being surrounded by family and friends to celebrate his career. Ahead of the ceremony, we take a look at the NBA legend's personal life.
Stoudemire has four children and was married to Alexis Welch for nearly a decade. The two met as teenagers at a party hosted by rapper Nelly in 2002, around the time Stoudemire entered the NBA as a rookie.
They would begin to date soon after. This was the beginning of a 10-year-long relationship before they ultimately decided to tie the knot.
They took advantage of the 12-12-2012 date and got married on the rooftop deck of their Manhattan home. This was when Stoudemire was with the New York Knicks.
The nuptials were a fairly secretive affair, but Vibe.com reported that it was attended by a modest 12 guests.

PHILADELPHIA − The Eagles are beginning their preseason schedule with the same players, but a different offense led by new coordinator Sean Mannion.
That's not entirely true. For the preseason opener, it likely isn't quarterback Jalen Hurts, running back Saquon Barkley, wide receiver DeVonta Smith or the veteran starting offensive line running the plays. Rather, the Eagles are expected to go with their backups and young players vying for roster spots.
Buy Philadelphia Eagles tickets
Still, we should see some of the new concepts that Mannion has been instituting during training camp, and it'll come against a Ravens team with a new head coach for the first time since 2008 as Jesse Minter takes over for John Harbaugh.
Like the Eagles, the Ravens aren't expected to play their established players such as quarterback Lamar Jackson, running back Derrick Henry or wide receiver Zay Flowers.

The Florida State Seminoles are taking their search for talent in the 2028 recruiting cycle to the state of Texas. On Friday, four-star wide receiver Damarion Mays announced his offer from the Seminoles.
"#AGTG blessed to have received an offer from Florida State," Mays said on social media.
He is ranked as the nation's No. 111 overall recruit and the No. 16 wide receiver in 247Sports composite rankings. He's listed as the No. 12 prospect in the state of Texas as well.
Mays made his name known as a freshman at Life Oak Cliff High School in Dallas, Texas. He registered 68 receptions for 1,640 yards and 13 touchdowns while averaging an amazing 24.1 yards per catch. Plus, he added 164 kickoff return yards. As a sophomore, Mays played at North Crowley High School in Fort Worth, Texas. He had another very productive season with 54 receptions for 843 yards and 11 scores. He averaged 15.6 yards per catch.
The 6-foot-3, 205-pounder has garnered around 40 scholarship offers due to his performance in his first two years of high school, which will make FSU's pursuit of him a challenging one. Mays also has offers from the Georgia Bulldogs, Alabama Crimson Tide, Miami Hurricanes, Texas Longhorns, Texas A&M Aggies, Texas Tech Red Raiders, Ohio State Buckeyes, Oklahoma Sooners, Ole Miss Rebels, and more.

By now, you should be more than familiar with our series of regularly updating leaderboards for various Marquette Golden Eagles sports accomplishments. Keep checking back to that link in the previous sentence for our charts as the seasons continue to churn through history and MU's various teams continue to create new memories and accomplishments.
Here, we take a look at the single season goals record for men's lacrosse.
Bobby O'Grady did not wrap up 2022 with the single season record for points, but he did knock down the program record for goals in a season. Before 2022, only Ryan McNamara had ever scored 40 goals in a season, and he did that exactly on the nose in 2016, the year MU won their first ever Big East championship. At the time, McNamara had become just the second Marquette player to ever record 35 goals in a season and the first to ever clear 37. O'Grady went flying right past the workhorse of Marquette's first two NCAA tournament teams, and landed on 45 goals in MU's 15 games in 2022. That makes him the first Marquette player to ever average a hat trick for an entire season. Up til now, Tyler Melnyk's 2.57 per game in 2014 was the gold standard for the Blue and Gold.
One year later, O'Grady took a run at breaking his own record. He ultimately fell short, finishing the campaign with 43 goals, but he accomplished something else instead. O'Grady is — even now, three years later — the only player in Marquette history to score 40 or more goals in two separate seasons. In 2025, O'Grady became the first Marquette player with 30 or more goals in three different seasons, and he's the only player in MU history to tally at least 25 goals in each year of his four year career.
O'Grady hasn't been alone in redecorating this top 15 list in the past few seasons. Nolan Rappis now owns two of the seven best scoring seasons in MU history after back to back 30+ goal seasons. Carsen Brandt got into the action in the spring of 2026, putting up 27 goals and passing all but the 10 best seasons in MU history, all of which featured at least 30 goals.
