The NFLPA's P.R. push for grass fields should focus less on making a broad-brush effort to shame the owners into choosing a better surface and more on getting specific teams to flip. That effort, as previously explained, should start with the Seahawks, who are in the process of getting a new owner.
On Tuesday, a pair of Seattle veterans made the case for grass during training-camp press conferences.
Defensive lineman Leonard Williams was asked whether seeing temporary grass at Lumen Field for the World Cup made him wish the grass would remain permanently.
"For sure," Williams told reporters, "I think the whole NFL felt that way. We obviously prefer to be on grass. It's less impact, better on the body. I understand there's a lot of things that go into having grass in the stadium that I don't fully understand yet, but if it was up to a player and it just came down to grass or turf, we obviously prefer grass."
Receiver Cooper Kupp was initially more concise. "That would be sweet," he said with a laugh.

Charlie Woods got off to a slow start at the Junior PGA Championship on Tuesday.
The 17-year-old son of Tiger Woods shot 3-over 75 at Fields Ranch East in Frisco, Texas in the opening round, seven strokes off the lead and tied for 53rd.
Woods bogeyed the first and fourth holes before making his first birdie of the day at the seventh hole. He made a double bogey at the ninth to tour the front nine in 39. On the back nine, Woods traded birdies at Nos. 15 and 18 with bogeys at Nos. 14 and 16.
Woods finished T-9 at the Junior PGA last year at Purdue University's Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex, one of the few tournaments his famous father never won. Tiger finished runner-up in 1990.
Conditions were difficult on Tuesday, including 100-degree heat, at the course that will play host to the PGA Championship next May. Only 16 players in the field of 156 managed to break par on a difficult day in which 29 players shot 80 or higher. No one played better than Kailer Stone of Alameda, Calif., who birdied three of the final four holes to shoot 4-under 68 and claim the lead.

The San Francisco Giants unsteady future plans for their rotation just got murkier. On Tuesday, the team announced what many had feared for a few days: that right-handed pitcher Trevor McDonald will undergo Tommy John surgery to repair his throwing arm.
McDonald, who has a 5.12 ERA and a 4.28 FIP on the year, left his last start after feeling discomfort in his elbow during warm-up pitches before the fifth inning. The 25-year old was promptly placed on the 15-Day Injured List with a UCL strain which, unfortunately, leads to Tommy John most of the time. After getting a second opinion from a specialist, McDonald and the Giants decided on the surgery, which will take place next week.
The timing of the surgery means that McDonald will not only miss the rest of this year, but almost certainly all of next season as well. Barring any setbacks, he should have a good chance of being ready to return by the time Spring Training rolls around in 2028. Unfortunately for McDonald, he'll find himself in an unenviable situation then: he'll be not only trying to shake off the injury rust and get back in form, but he'll be out of options, essentially eliminating his leash to get back in a rhythm and proove himself.
But that's a problem for another day. Unfortunately, a whole lot of rehab awaits McDonald before he gets to the stage. And a whole lot of moves await the Giants, who will need to rebuild an already-bad rotation this offseason — and one that is likely about to lose Robbie Ray and Tyler Mahle — without McDonald as an option.

FRISCO, Texas (AP) — Texas Rangers shortstop Corey Seager hit a solo homer and made a nifty defensive play in a rehab appearance for Double-A Frisco on Tuesday night after being sidelined all this month because of lower back inflammation.
Seager is on the injured list for the third time this season, and has missed 52 games for Texas — one more than he has played for the AL West-leading Rangers. They are 24-28 without the two-time World Series MVP.
Seager went 1 for 2 with a walk and a strikeout against Corpus Christi, homering in the fifth before being replaced in the field after that inning. The top of the third ended when the shortstop made a backhanded stop in the hole and made a strong throw to first for the out.
His last game had been June 30 at Toronto, when he was removed in the first inning because of back discomfort. The rehab appearance came after Seager took live batting practice the previous two days before Rangers home games.
It wasn't immediately clear when he would rejoin the big league club.

A trio of up-and-coming young talents at La Liga giants Barcelona have turned the heads of the club's coaching staff with their performances in pre-season.

Initial reports about San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan claimed he was not at fault for the car crash that occurred on July 14.
According to the California Crash Reporting System database — Case ID 5249308 — Shanahan was allegedly holding and using his cell phone prior to the crash. Still, Shanahan was not considered at fault. It was determined that the 21-year-old woman driving made an unsafe turn, which resulted in the crash. Both airbags were deployed.
The state of California prohibits holding and operating a cell phone while driving, according to Vehicle Code 23123.5(a), but Shanahan was not cited.
Chris Simms said he received pictures from Kyle's wife, Mandy. Simms said, "He was this close to maybe losing his right eye. The scar is so big right here. And he's still battling with this concussion. He's healing. His face looks a whole lot better, but this concussion, of course, being part of that kind of accident, is lingering, and it's giving him issues."

An estimated 21.5 million additional adults in the United States may now be eligible for statins under updated cholesterol treatment guidelines, according to a new study.
The researchers aimed to estimate how many adults in the US would be considered eligible for statin therapy under the new 2026 blood cholesterol guidelines issued by the American Heart **** ociation, the American College of Cardiology and nine partnering medical societies, compared with the previous 2018 guidelines.
The **** ysis, published July 20 in the journal JAMA, found that the changes could bring the total number of Americans eligible for statins, medications that lower cholesterol, to about 87.5 million people, or more than half of adults ages 30 to 79.
What prompted this major expansion, and does being eligible mean that someone should immediately begin taking medication? To help us understand the study and what patients should discuss with their healthcare providers, I spoke with CNN wellness expert Dr. Leana Wen. Wen is an emergency physician and clinical **** ociate professor at George Washington University. She previously served as Baltimore's health commissioner.

Kia Corporation announced a 2.3% rise in net profits to KRW 2,327.8 trillion (US$ 1.59 billion) for the second quarter of 2026, up from KRW 2,268.2 trillion a year earlier, with US import tariffs and higher sales incentives offset by record global vehicle deliveries. Operating profits fell by 4.9% to KRW 2,628.5 trillion.
The South Korean automaker reported a 12.6% increase in global sales revenues to a record KRW 33,037.0 trillion in the three-month period, while global wholesale deliveries rose by 4.5% to 851,639 vehicles – including 154,816 units in South Korea and 696,823 units overseas. The company was not affected by the component shortages that held back Hyundai Motor's second-quarter results.
Sales of electrified vehicles jumped 60% to 296,000 units, accounting for 35% of Kia's global sales, driven by strong hybrid-electric vehicle (HEV) sales in the US and higher battery electric vehicle (BEV) demand in South Korea and Europe. Total HEV retail sales rose by 61% to 178,000 units, helped by the launch of the new Telluride and Seltos models, with sales in the US surging by 152% to 66,000 units, while total BEV retail sales surged by 88% to 110,000 units.
Kia said it expects solid business results in the second half of 2026 to enable it to meet its full-year guidance, "supported by competitive new model offerings and sustained BEV and HEV demand." The company is targeting 3.35 million global vehicle sales in 2026, supported by the launch of new BEV models in Europe and a recovery in Middle Eastern demand.
In the US, Kia said that its plans to expand production capacity of the Telluride SUV, including hybrid variants, and the ramp up of deliveries of the Sportage hybrid produced at the Hyundai Motor Group Metaplant America (HMGMA) will help enhance profitability.

Domestic revenue rose 6% on higher revenue per piece, international jumped 12.5%, and healthcare logistics cleared $3 billion for a second straight quarter, with Tomé bragging UPS is the only carrier offering true end-to-end healthcare delivery on its own ******* ets.

Shares of D-Wave Quantum (NYSE: QBTS) jumped Monday morning on the announcement that AT&T (NYSE: T) is expanding its use of the company's quantum computing technology across its network operations. This is excellent news in a rough year for D-Wave's stock, which is down more than 26% in 2026.

Hurley, during a recent interview on SiriusXM's "Andy Cohen Live," said the couple – who have been together nearly a year and a half – are "remarkably similar in strangely different ways."
"We've both been in showbiz our whole lives. We've both lived out of suitcases our entire lives, so that's very normal for us," she said. "You're not reliable for anything because work comes first, so we've both been that person for a very long time, and that really helps. We're both also, again, even though we've always both worked in the cities, we're both country mice at heart."
Hurley, who grew up in a market town in Hampshire, England, and Cyrus, who is from Flatwoods, Kentucky, share a desire for a quiet life, she said.
"We like bird watching. We've got binoculars. We've got long lenses, and we watch 'Birds of Prey' a lot," she continued. "I do the gardening. He sits under a tree and plays his guitar, and we couldn't be happier. May sound odd to some people, but for me, it's bliss."

Carolina Panthers running back Jonathon Brooks was finally able to put on his pads at an NFL training camp.
Tuesday's session proved to be another showcase for Brooks, who is progressing through his first healthy offseason as a pro. The 23-year-old shined this morning, putting his speed and suddenness on display—as he did during spring workouts.
He was asked about the session afterwards.
"It felt good. It felt good to be back out there," Brooks stated. "I'm just trusting the process that the trainers and coaches have for me. And just ultimately, believing in myself throughout the whole rehab process. And it was a blessing to be back out there."
Between two ACL tears to his right knee, one from college and one from his rookie campaign, Brooks has been limited to just three games since being drafted back in 2024. After being sidelined for the entirety of the 2025 campaign, the former second-round pick seems likely to factor into the Carolina offense from the jump—even drawing whispers of earning a featured role down the line.

LYTHAM ST. ANNES, England – Charley Hull admits she never watches YouTube golf but nevertheless has decided to launch her own YouTube channel.
"Sweet Spot Golf" makes its debut this week with a tour 'round Royal Lytham and St. Annes, site of this week's AIG Women's British Open. Hull hosts the channel alongside good friend Ryan Evans, the guy she bet 10,000 pounds that she could quit smoking.
"Ryan is one of my very good friends, my best friends, and he's played golf with me since I was 10, 11 years old," she said during a pre-tournament press conference. "We was just playing loads of golf rounds last year, and like some of the rounds I was – I think one of the rounds I was 8 under through nine holes and then he birdied six of last seven holes to then be all square.
"I turned around to him I was like, oh, my gosh, like we have like played so well and like had so much banter in this round. Imagine someone recording this. It would be hilarious. He was like, yeah, and I was like, maybe we should start our own YouTube channel like joking around.

So far, so good for San Francisco 49ers rookie wide receiver De'Zhaun Stribling. We're reading about Stribling impressing early in training camp, making big plays downfield or creating yards after the catch by turning underneath routes into 20+ yard receptions. Stribling is performing like the player he was drafted to be.
Brock Purdy is noticing the rookie. On Monday, Purdy said, "Dude is a baller, and I mean that. It's hard to say that for a rookie, right off the jump, but just seeing him run routes, going up against defenders in OTAs and then in camp yesterday. He's a great route runner. He's smart. He's learned the playbook really quick, which is awesome.
And then, on top of that, you can see his strength, too. When he's going up against guys and creating separation, I'm like, 'Alright, this guy's a strong receiver.' And so, I'm excited to see what he does, but all of us, all the quarterbacks in the room, were like, 'Alright, this guy's going to be the guy that's going to come in and play.'"
Stribling returned the compliments to Purdy, calling him a "Very talented guy, very talented guy, great leader." With training camp here, the excitement for football season is about to ramp up to a fever pitch. For the Dallas Cowboys, it's been an offseason where more noise has come from their roster moves, free agent acquisitions, and draft picks than any off the field drama, which is a welcome change for a team that will begin the regular season 973 days removed from their last playoff game appearance.
That playoff game was the now-infamous 48-32 home loss to the Green Bay Packers. The Cowboys and Packers have met just once since that January game in AT&T Stadium, and it was memorable for a whole other host of reasons, ending in a 40-40 tie on Sunday Night Football last season in week four.
The Cowboys and Packers will meet again on Sunday night primetime this season, at Lambeau Field, this time in week six. As we continue our season preview series, Dallas' division rivals are now all behind us, and our focus will shift to some of the potential toughest games on the schedule against either other rivals or expected playoff contenders at large.
Also for the second year in a row, the Cowboys and Packers early season meeting will be marked by a trade between the two sides involving a pass rusher. Last season, it was Kenny Clark coming over to the Cowboys from the Packers (plus some draft picks) in exchange for Micah Parsons, and this year the Cowboys acquired Rashan Gary after seven seasons with the green and gold. With Parsons still rehabbing from a week 15 ACL tear last season against the Broncos, the Cowboys may not be playing against their own former pass rush star this time around. The Packers scored 40 points on the Matt Eberflus defense in 2025; this game will be a very important early comparison point to just how much of a difference new defensive coordinator Christian Parker is making.
Another theme both of these teams will have going into 2026 is the expectation for their all-important QB/HC pairing to prove they are the right men for the jobs. The Packers will go into year four of Jordan Love as the starting quarterback and year eight for Matt LaFleur having lost in the Wild Card round the last two postseasons. Italian soccer federation Giovanni Malagò announced Mancini as the new Italy coach on Tuesday, adding that Claudio Ranieri will become the new technical director after Paolo Maldini stepped down the previous day — just 16 days after being appointed.

Just before the Chicago Bears opened training camp this week, big news came out that could grab the attention of the front office with a position player they could use having requested a trade. According to several NFL insiders, Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive tackle Vita Vea, a former first-round pick in 2018, has requested a trade due to stalled contract negotiations.
While it could just be a ploy to get the franchise to bite into his favor during contract talks, Vea's trade request should immediately perk the ears of Bears general manager Ryan Poles. Coming into this season, the Bears really only have Gervon Dexter Sr. and Grady Jarrett as their production leaders at the defensive tackle but severely lack depth behind him, and Jarrett underperformed in his first season with Chicago last year.
The question now becomes if the Bears should entertain a trade for Vea, and if they do, what would that look like to acquire him, as there's no doubt he'd be a big upgrade to the defensive line as a whole. Here's our examination of a potential Bears pursuit of acquiring the two-time Pro Bowl defensive tackle.
A trade for Vea, at the very minimum, is going to likely start with a second-round pick, and another Day 3 pick going back to Tampa Bay, but the Bears may also want to consider dangling Gervon Dexter in return. The issue with potentially including Dexter is that he would be the youngest of the three between Vea, Jarrett, and himself, and he's a free agent after the 2026 season, so a contract is going to be on the table for both players. If Chicago believes that Vea could lead the defensive tackle position, and improve their run defense, they should swing big if they can make it work from a financial fit, because he would most certainly be a big upgrade on the field.

The Bears had a knack for saving their best work for the latest portions of games while winning the NFC North and advancing to the divisional round of the playoffs last year, but quarterback Caleb Williams isn't looking for a repeat of that in 2026.

Detroit — First, off came the shoes.
Then, off came the gloves — well, at least, what passes for that in the mostly congenial world of professional golf.
Longtime PGA Tour player Lucas Glover expressed annoyance with a fellow pro — or pros — on Monday when he clarified the strange incident that happened during Sunday's final round of the 3M Open in Minnesota. After making a birdie putt on the 10th hole at TPC Twin Cities, Glover turned around, walked back to the collar of the green and removed his golf shoes before walking back to the hole to retrieve his ball.
Glover then walked off the green in his socks, carrying his shoes. The clip of the incident quickly went viral.
In a statement Monday, Glover explained his reasoning. It turns out, a player — or players — had complained to a tournament official that Glover's metal spikes were causing damage to the greens, around the holes.

Longtime PGA Tour player Lucas Glover expressed annoyance with a fellow pro — or pros — on Monday when he clarified the strange incident that happened during Sunday's final round of the 3M Open in Minnesota. After making a birdie putt on the 10th hole at TPC Twin Cities, Glover turned around, walked back to the collar of the green and removed his golf shoes before walking back to the hole to retrieve his ball.
Glover then walked off the green in his socks, carrying his shoes. The clip of the incident quickly went viral.
In a statement Monday, Glover explained his reasoning. It turns out, a player — or players — had complained to a tournament official that Glover's metal spikes were causing damage to the greens, around the holes.

Detroit — The stars are set to take their swings at the Rocket Classic.
Several local sports celebrities will play alongside PGA Tour golfers at Detroit Golf Club during Wednesday's annual pro-am tournament, which is open to the public and free for fans.
Among the celebs scheduled to play are Lions legends Barry Sanders and Calvin Johnson, new Michigan head football coach Kyle Whittingham, former Michigan State basketball greats-turned-broadcasters Greg Kelser and Steve Smith, current Red Wing Alex DeBrincat, former Lion Joique Bell and Oakland head men's basketball coach Greg Kampe.
There might be more celebs participating, but those are the ones Rocket officials have publicized. Notably, Red Wings captain (for now) Dylan Larkin's name isn't on the list. He's played in previous pro-ams, including last year's. Larkin hasn't spoken publicly since requesting a trade earlier this offseason.

Chennai: As India look to usher in a new generation of fast bowlers, Australian great Glenn McGrath believes Prasidh Krishna has all the ingredients to become Jasprit ****** rah's long-term pace partner.
The legendary fast bowler, who is the director of coaching at the MRF Pace Foundation, has closely followed Prasidh's rise and feels the tall Karnataka seamer has transformed his potential into performances.
"I'm a big fan of Prasidh," McGrath said. "If he gets his length right, he's got everything going for him."
"He has really matured. He's tall, bowls in good areas, generates bounce and has genuine pace. Occasionally he's a little short, but apart from that, I think he's the whole package. He's really developed and put his potential into performance," he said.
India have handed opportunities to several young quicks during the recent tours of the UK and Zimbabwe as they prepare for a demanding cycle of white-ball cricket, with the ODI and T20 World Cups to be played in South Africa and Australia-New Zealand respectively. It means India will need a strong pace attack firing on all cylinders, and McGrath believes the transition phase they are going through will not be easy.
"You've got ****** rah, who's a class bowler, and Mohammed Shami, who's world-class as well. Mohammed Siraj has been around for a long time too. You can't just expect to pick up straight where you left off. It's always going to be a transitional period," he said, referring to the Australian team, which will also go through a similar phase.
"Other than Pat ****** mins, Josh Hazlewood and Mitchell Starc, hardly anybody gets a chance... So it's not going to be easy for Australia either."
McGrath also pointed out that ****** rah's unconventional action demands careful workload management.
"The way he powers through those last few steps probably puts more stress on his body than most bowlers. It'll be interesting to see how he manages himself," McGrath said.
While India appear keen to fast-track younger bowlers, McGrath insisted experienced pacers still have an important role to play.
"It's always good to have experience there. Young bowlers learn by playing alongside senior guys. I was fortunate to watch Craig McDermott and Merv Hughes. That's where you really learn. I'd always pick an experienced team over a potential team," he said.
On whether veterans such as Shami or Bhuvneshwar ****** ar could still mount a comeback, McGrath said the decision rested on their bodies, motivation and the selectors.
"If they're prepared to put the work in and their body allows it, then why not? As fast bowlers get older, the work only gets tougher. Ultimately, it's up to them and the selectors."
McGrath also called for a rethink in the way fast bowlers are rehabilitated after injuries, arguing that modern systems often "wrap bowlers in cotton wool" instead of making them physically stronger.

FORT PIERCE — LaDaris Vann was still in the midst of moving down from Georgia when the 2025 high school football season and the fall practice schedule officially got underway.
With a year under his belt, the second-year Fort Pierce Westwood head coach is happy to be settled. But Vann understands there is much more work that needs to be done now that the 2026 season has arrived.
"It's just a day-to-day grind," Vann said. "I got a whole year and summer to get these kids in the weight room, but just one summer isn't good enough. We just have to continue the momentum, keep working and stay committed throughout the season."
The program as a whole will look to carry momentum from a strong close to the 2025 season.

After a dominant run through the East Zone Tournament, the Hagerstown PONY-13 All-Stars will fly to California to play in the PONY-13 World Series in Carlsbad starting Friday, July 31.
"I don't think it will set in completely until they get out to California and see the Dominican Republic, ****** an, France, Mexico," said manager Jeff Mills. "When they start seeing these guys they get to play against, it's going to kind of hit them. But I don't think these boys will get nervous."
Hagerstown outscored its opponents by a combined 39-8 in the East Zone. Hagerstown broke a 4-4 tie with a pair of runs in the sixth inning of a 7-4 win over Athletix in the opener, then blew open its other two games with 10-run innings while defeating the Ohio Prospects 16-1 and Athletix 16-3 in the ****** le game.
"They played great the whole weekend," Mills said. "They're very mature for their age. They never got down at any point in the tournament, just stayed strong. The pitchers threw great. ****** ody had a really rough outing. Defensively, there were only two or three errors. They're solid the whole way around.
"When they put up 10 runs on Ohio, that was a big confidence boost because at that point they knew they'd have to get beat twice in the championship round. Then they put up 10 again."
