WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump's proposal to send $5,000 to every American adult if his Republican Party maintains control of the House and Senate in the November election needs congressional approval, House Speaker Mike Johnson said Sunday, while pledging to try to make it happen.
Trump made the unusual pitch at the party's midterm convention in Dallas last week, promising a "Trump Dividend" if voters keep the GOP in power on Capitol Hill. The president later told CBS News Texas that he did not think Congress would need to authorize the payments, though he did not specify how he could spend more than $1 trillion without lawmakers' authorization.
But Johnson, R-La., said congressional approval is needed. "I would ***** ume, yes, he'd need Congress to act, and that's a creative idea," he said.
A few hours later, Trump said he would deliver on his promise. "The 5,000's going to happen, 100%," he told reporters before boarding Air Force One in Ireland, where he attended a pro golf tournament at his resort.

If you turn to Gordon Ramsay for cooking advice, the legendary chef is probably going to have some useful info, but if it's frozen food you're curious about, the man has sent some mixed signals over the years. As a famous TV yeller/chef, Ramsay is known for speaking his mind on foods he won't touch, and one thing he's been keen to attack in the past is frozen food meals. While many of us might turn to a frozen pizza or burrito for a cheap, quick meal when we don't have the energy to cook, Ramsay once told Bon Appétit it's the one type of food he refuses to eat.

BRATISLAVA, Sept 10 (Reuters) - Poland averted a threat to one of its border crossings with Ukraine overnight and expects its crossings will be targeted as Moscow strikes trade routes to try to weaken Kyiv economically, Prime Minister Donald Tusk said on Thursday.
He spoke after drones hit a border crossing between Ukraine and Moldova in the southern region of Odesa, killing two people on Wednesday.
"Last night, thanks to cooperation between our services and their Ukrainian counterparts, a direct threat to one of the border crossings was averted," Tusk told a press conference in the Slovak capital Bratislava.
"As you know, Russia has already resorted to provocative attacks on border crossings - for instance, in Moldova. We expect similar actions targeting border crossings with Ukraine in other countries, including Poland."
Russia did not immediately comment on Tusk's remarks.

The biggest oil companies in the United States are playing hardball in unionized labor negotiations in a bid to get more concessions from workers' unions in the new contracts.
Over the past few years, some of the top U.S. refining companies have resorted to lockouts to ensure most of the company management's proposals in new labor contracts are accepted.
The trend began earlier this decade with Exxon locking out in 2021 as many as 650 workers out of the Beaumont refinery for 10 months. This was the longest labor dispute at a U.S. refinery in four decades.
Five years later, BP and Marathon are currently in a similar position, locking out workers at their Whiting, Indiana, and Martinez, California, refineries, respectively, amid labor disputes over union contracts.
The refineries continue to operate with contractors, supervisors, and replacement workers. The continued operations show that Big Oil is not as afraid as it used to be to use replacement staff while seeking concessions from the unions.

On August 4, Wynn Resorts Limited (NASDAQ:WYNN) reported second quarter 2026 results showing net income more than doubling to $140.1 million from $66.2 million a year earlier, while revenue climbed to $1.86 billion. Diluted earnings per share jumped to $1.32 from $0.64. Behind that headline number sits a messier picture: one Macau property carried the quarter while Las Vegas and Boston watched their profits shrink, even as management pressed ahead with a resort in the United Arab Emirates that will not open until September 2027.
Wynn Palace did the heavy lifting this quarter. Revenue jumped $113.8 million to $653.4 million, and Adjusted Property EBITDAR climbed to $201.5 million from $157.2 million a year earlier. The mass market table games win percentage came in at 29.7%, well above the 22.3% posted in the second quarter of 2025, a sign that ordinary gamblers, not just high rollers, are spending more at the tables. Las Vegas also showed discipline where it counts: the table games win percentage reached 23.9%, inside the property's expected 22% to 26% range and up from 21.8% a year earlier.
Wynn Resorts backed up the earnings jump with capital returns. The board declared a quarterly dividend of $0.25 per share, payable August 28, to shareholders of record as of August 14. The company also bought back 741,098 shares during the quarter at an average price of $101.20, spending $75.0 million, and still has $326.1 million left under its repurchase authorization. Construction, meanwhile, continues on Wynn Al Marjan Island, the joint venture project in Ras Al Khaimah, with life-to-date cash contributions reaching $1.06 billion as of June 30.
Strip away Wynn Palace and the picture changes. Adjusted Property EBITDAR fell at three of Wynn's four properties. Las Vegas Operations brought in $4.6 million more revenue, but EBITDAR still dropped $19.6 million to $215.2 million, meaning costs ate into the top-line gain. Encore Boston Harbor had it worse on both ends, with revenue down $6.4 million to $209.3 million and EBITDAR down $7.8 million to $56.1 million; its table games win percentage slipped to 18.1% from 21.3% a year earlier, even though it stayed inside the expected 18% to 22% range.
Wynn Macau's revenue rose $7.3 million, but EBITDAR still slipped to $95.5 million from $96.5 million, and its VIP table games win percentage of 2.58% fell well short of both the prior year's 3.41% and the property's own 3.1% to 3.4% target range. Wynn Palace's VIP win percentage of 2.97% missed its target range too, even with mass market strength carrying the property overall.

Several of architect David McLay Kidd's most popular courses have focused on extreme and creative playability, with Gamble Sands in Washington and Mammoth Dunes at Sand Valley in Wisconsin as prime examples. Even his first-ever design, the original Bandon Dunes layout at the famed resort of the same name in Oregon, put playability at the forefront.
Kidd had a few deviations from the playability theme in his career, but in recent years he has talked at length about designing courses that are approachable for any level of golfer. The trick, he has said, is to challenge the best players while allowing less-skilled golfers to keep swinging.
Consider that challenge accepted at Bone Valley in Florida, his latest completed creation that will open in late September for preview play at the well-regarded Streamsong Resort. Built with an appreciation of the resort's other courses and with those layouts' DNA in mind, Kidd has constructed a new, full-sized 18 that offers ample width and plenty of opportunities to bounce **** into greens – those are keys to playability for less-skilled players.
But just as megalodon shark teeth can be found in the sand piles left over from the site's history as a phosphate mining operation, Bone Valley can offer a bit of a bite. Stray too far from the best scoring lines, and even the best players will struggle with the angles as they attempt to set up birdie putts.
"My team and I felt like we got to build something really, really fun both visually, strategically, creatively," Kidd said. "I think golfers, when they come here, won't be disappointed. I think they'll have a blast trying to figure out how to navigate their way through. I think every hole has a dozen different attacks you could make, a thousand different ways you could recover from error. It's not overly penal, but she is going to put up a fight against scoring. I think I've been able to refine that over the last dozen years or so."

Eugene Naughton, Dollywood Parks & Resorts President, shared the details in a press release on September 2.
"Many of us had extensive conversations with Dolly through the years about how she would want us to carry her vision forward," explained Naughton. BANGKOK, Aug 31 (Reuters) - After a long deployment in the Middle East, a U.S. Navy aircraft carrier will dock in Thailand's resort city of Pattaya this week, raising hopes of an economic boost, even as local authorities cracked down on parts of the **** tourism destination.
The Abraham Lincoln is due to dock on Wednesday at nearby Laem Chabang, with two accompanying Navy vessels, to allow nearly 5,000 sailors and Marines aboard to rest and recuperate after over 200 days at sea, according to Thai officials.
Ahead of its arrival, police are preparing additional patrols around Pattaya's main beachfront and nightlife district besides raids over the weekend that led to 40 to 50 people in detention for suspected prostitution, officials said.
"We are doing our best, but it is difficult," Pattaya police chief Anek Srathongyoo said on Monday, explaining that **** workers could potentially solicit in public areas without the knowledge of the authorities.

There was no shortage of drama during Térence Atmane and Jaume Munar's tense first-round battle at the 2026 US Open. A day after the news of Dolly Parton's death broke, the president of Dollywood gave an update on the Tennessee theme park. Co-owned by Herschend and Dolly Parton Productions, the theme park welcomes roughly four million guests every season. With Parton's passing, many fans questioned the park's future, and its president has put them all at ease.
On August 26, Dollywood's official Instagram page shared an emotional video from president Eugene Naughton. "This is a really heavy day for all of us here at Dollywood Parks and Resorts," he said. "We've been dealing with the news of our Dreamer in Chief passing, and I want to speak directly to you to make sure you realize that she's alive and well here."
Naughton addressed fans' concerns about any potential changes to the park. He said, "I know a lot of people are concerned that things are going to change without Dolly being present here, and I want to **** ure you that it's not. Just know that we're all going to keep her alive here." Growing emotional, he encouraged fans to keep the legendary country musician's legacy alive in her absence.
"We're all humans, so I ask everyone to just remember that," he said. "And to honor how she would treat others; show kindness. Don't be afraid to love big. Don't be afraid to dream big. Don't be afraid to care more about others because that's exactly what we're going to do. Because that's exactly what she'd want us to do." He concluded the video, saying, "The show must go on."

CNN has apologized for mistakenly airing a photo of a Dolly Parton impersonator while covering the death of the "Queen of Country."
During the 11 p.m. ET hour of the Aug. 25 evening broadcast of "Laura Coates Live," a photo meant to show Parton, who died the same day at age 80, was actually of Las Vegas entertainer Kelly Vohnn.
The photo that aired during the segment was taken by Getty Images on Dec. 16, 2025, when the tribute artist attended a special screening of the "Song Sung Blue" movie at the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas.
"We regret the error and apologize to the Parton family," CNN said in a statement shared with Variety and the New York Post.
Vohnn addressed the mix-up in an interview with the New York Post, where she said "I started getting all these texts in from friends saying that I was on CNN, and I couldn't believe it."

Are we forgetting The Lost City London premiere, its Los Angeles premiere, the 2019 MTV Movie & TV Awards or the Ocean's 8 world premiere?
Those who weren't convinced by the leopard print will probably prefer this Erdem Resort 2027 look. The black blazer, white asymmetric skirt and lace detailing offer a softer route into the film's witchy world, with the dark romanticism coming through the monochrome palette and black lace.
I love how the lace breaks up the monochrome layers, while the white neck scarf adds another point of interest. Smart but not overly formal, this is more subdued than her premiere look.
