From 70 to 50. The PGA Tour's FedEx Cup Playoffs rolls on to Week 2 of the postseason and now just 50 golfers remain.
The second leg of the playoffs takes the Tour to Bellerive Country Club in St. Louis for the BMW Championship, the lone playoff event to be played at a different venue each season. The postseason started with 70 golfers and only Sungjae Im, who finished T-5 and surged from No. 53 at the start of the week, to No. 40, did enough at the FedEx St. Jude Championship to get through to the next week. And if Im moved up, that means someone also had to move down, and Keith Mitchell was the odd-man out.
Maverick McNealy entered the week as the "Bubble Boy," and he did just enough to hang on, shooting 1-under 69 on Sunday and finishing T-19. He advanced at No. 49.
"Much happier trip not going to the airport and just driving a car up the river," McNealy said. "I think the top 50 number is probably the most important number on the PGA Tour right now. I'm excited to get to St. Louis and just take a Hail Mary swing to see if I can get into the Tour Championship, which is the goal every year."
The last man to qualify for the BMW was Matt McCarty, who finished 50th, less than 8 points ahead of Mitchell.

It was a bad week in Memphis for Rory McIlroy.
McIlroy struggled his way through TPC Southwind and ended up finishing alone in 66th at 8-over for the week at the FedEx St. Jude Championship. While he is safely into the BMW Championship next week — McIlroy entered the tournament at No. 12 in the FedExCup standings — it was McIlroy's worst finish of the season by far.
"Obviously [I] didn't come in here with a ton of reps," McIlroy said on Sunday. "Almost felt like the more the week went on, the more I felt lost with my golf swing a little bit."
McIlroy entered the PGA Tour's postseason after a long break. He hadn't competed since his T40 finish at the British Open in mid-July. And that showed.
McIlroy opened the tournament with a 4-over 74, and failed to break par in all four rounds. While he was already well out of contention at this point, McIlroy just looked out of it to start play on Sunday. He opened the final round with a double bogey on the first, and then went 5-over through the first six holes.

Finally, Scottie Scheffler has won on the PGA Tour again.
The top-ranked golfer in the world, after months of finishing short in frustrating fashion, ran away with the FedEx St. Jude Championship. He posted a 4-under 66 in the final round at TPC Southwind in Memphis and ended up taking a massive eight-shot win over the rest of the field to kick off the PGA Tour's postseason. It's his first win since claiming victory at The American Express in January.
The win also earned him a $3.6 million check.
Scheffler entered the week with five runner-up finishes under his belt this season, two of which were losses in playoff holes. Though the 11 top-10 finishes he had racked up are hard to be disappointed about, Scheffler was getting close to completing a one-win season for the first time in years.
But quickly, Scheffler got back to old form and absolutely dominated the field in Memphis. By the time he reached the final stretch, after a birdie at the 13th, Scheffler's lead was up to seven shots. The tournament was over early, and he was back to winning without any doubt whatsoever.

Jeeno Thitikul won what turned into a Thai shootout in Portland to collect her 10th LPGA ******* le. The world No. 2 carded a final-round 64 at Columbia Edgewater to finish at 22 under for the tournament and hold off compatriots Chanettee Wannasean (63) and Arpichaya Yubol (67) at The Standard Portland Classic.
Thitikul, now a three-time winner this season, earned $300,000 for her efforts. "I would say every win, it means a lot [because of] the sacrifice that we put in, the work we put in," she said.
Finishing solo fourth was Sophia Schubert, who'd earned only $55,000 the whole season. The 30-year-old made $105,866 for the week and picked valuable CME points needed to keep her card.
Rookie Anne Chen had made only one cut on the LPGA this season prior to this week and a grand total of $7,097. Chen closed with a 66 in Portland thanks to playing her last five holes in 5 under, including an ace on the par-3 eighth. She earned $29,230 for the week.

With home advantage for the first time, Britain were seeking to finish top of the standings after coming third at Rome 2024.
But Italy beat Great Britain to men's 4x400m gold in a thrilling finish in the final race of the championships to make it back-to back top-place finishes.

India wicketkeeper-batter Dhruv Jurel revealed that the visitors had a clear plan to score quickly but sensibly on the rain-affected second day of the first Test against Sri Lanka in Galle. India eventually ended the day at 460/9, with Kuldeep Yadav unbeaten on 12 and Prasidh Krishna on 1.
Jurel walked in after India had already lost KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant but played an attacking knock to keep the momentum going. The right-hander struck 51 off 68 deliveries, including four fours and a six. He added a crucial 55-run partnership with Manav Suthar, helping India cross the 400-run mark.

"There was a plan to score runs briskly, but sensibly. We weren't looking to go bonkers from ball one, but there was a plan," Jurel said during the post-match press conference.

The India batter also revealed that his previous experience of playing in Sri Lanka with India A helped him understand the conditions and approach the innings with confidence.

"I know conditions here, having played for India A here. I was under no pressure, it's a privilege to play for India," Jurel added.

Jurel was given a reprieve on 29 when Sri Lankan captain Dhananjaya de Silva dropped a difficult chance at first slip. However, the captain later made amends by taking a spectacular catch to dismiss Jurel off Prabath Jayasuriya.
The standout performer for India was Devdutt Padikkal, who continued his sensational form from Day 1 to score a magnificent 167 off 230 ******* . Padikkal's innings included 15 fours and a six, and he became only the third Indian batter to score 150 or more against Sri Lanka from the No. 3 position, joining Rahul Dravid and Cheteshwar Pujara.

Jurel was full of praise for his teammate and pointed out that Padikkal has consistently delivered whenever opportunities have come his way.

Padikkal's dismissal eventually triggered another phase of Sri Lankan pressure, with Prabath Jayasuriya finishing with 4/109 and Keshara Nuwantha taking 3/175.
Despite India's imposing total, Jurel knows the job is far from finished. The wicketkeeper-batter stressed that India's bowlers will need to maintain discipline and be prepared for long spells when Sri Lanka begin their first innings.

"We need to bowl long spells here and be consistent with lengths. We need to take 20 wickets," he said.

The second day was heavily disrupted by rain, with the morning session completely washed out before play finally resumed at 2:35 PM local time. India began the day at 288/2 and lost seven wickets for 172 runs, but still managed to build a formidable first-innings total. The Miami Dolphins announced the re-signing of quarterback Mark Gronowski on Sunday, nine days after he had been waived by the team. The return comes a couple of days after Miami's opening preseason game of the year, a 20-7 loss to the Washington Commanders. They also signed linebacker Cam Riley in the moves.
To create **** e under the NFL's roster limit rules, the Dolphins moved offensive lineman Jamaree Salyer to the injured reserve list and waived cornerback Ethan Robinson with an injury designation.
Gronowski started his college career at South Dakota State, where he won two Football Championship Subdivision national championships and was named FCS's top offensive player in 2023, winning the Walter Payton Award. He transferred to Iowa for the 2025 season, throwing for 1,751 yards in 13 games with 10 touchdowns and seven interceptions. His 58 combined victories at South Dakota State and Iowa is the most wins ever for a starting quarterback in NCAA history. He signed as an undrafted free agent with the Dolphins in May, then was waived on August 7.
The Colts hosted Gronowski for a tryout on Saturday before he returned to South Florida.
Riley joins Miami after signing as an undrafted free agent with the New England Patriots in 2025. He spent time with the Tennessee **** ans practice squad last year. He began his college career at Auburn in 2020 before finishing with a one-year stint at Florida State in 2024.

UConn women's basketball has won more championships than any other Division I team.
The 12 they've won came over a span of 31 years—about 39 percent of the time they won it all over that stretch, while finishing in the top 10 of the final AP poll 100 percent of the time. Just as too much was read into that Carabao Cup final, we should resist the urge to hand ******* nal the Premier League trophy before a ball is kicked. This was a glorified friendly and captain Martin Odegaard lifted the trophy with all the faux enthusiasm it deserved.
But in their slick interchanges of passing, in their ability to keep City's dangermen at bay, in the peerless performance of new signings Bruno Guimaraes and Christos Tzolis, in the sheer strength in depth available to Mikel Arteta, there were undeniable signs that this ******* nal team might be as strong, perhaps even stronger, than last season's ******* le winners.
It took Riccardo Calafiori only 24 seconds to score ******* nal's first goal, finishing a clever pass by Myles Lewis-Skelly. It took Kai Havertz only four touches to add their second, heading home Tzolis's headed pass. By the time Martin Odegaard had added a brilliant third, taking Tzolis's pass in his stride before tricking Gianluigi Donnarumma into diving too early to leave the goal half empty, City were utterly beaten.

Ryan Silverfield is taking over a daunting rebuilding job as he begins his first season at the helm of the Arkansas Razorbacks. But the roster he inherited isn't totally bereft of talent.
There may be no sturdier building block on the team than Edge rusher Quincy Rhodes. Rhodes broke out as a junior in 2025, finishing with 44 total tackles and a team-leading 15.5 tackles for loss in addition to 8 sacks, 6 quarterback hurries, and a forced fumble. That TFL total was the most by an Arkansas defender since Trey Flowers had 15.5 in 2015, and he also became the first 'Hawg to register double digit tackles for loss in a season since Landon Jackson in 2023. Nationally, he ranked 13th in tackles for loss per game and 23rd in sacks per game during the regular season.
Heading into 2026 Rhodes earned second team All-SEC honors from both league coaches and the **** ociated Press and was also tabbed with second team recognition from Athlon Sports and third team from Phil Steele. He stands out as one of the few proven players remaining in Fayetteville after a mass roster exodus following the coaching change, meaning the entire Arkansas defensive identity in 2026 will likely run through him.
For Georgia, Rhodes presents a real problem up front. At 6-foot-6 and 275 pounds, he has the length to disrupt passing lanes and the first step to win one-on-one against tackles who aren't ready for his quickness. A player who forces 15+ tackles for loss in a season has a demonstrated ability to blow up run designs before they develop, and Georgia's offensive line will need a plan specifically built around neutralizing him rather than treating him as a standard edge rusher. Early season road trips can be unpredictable, and Rhodes gives Arkansas a legitimate chance to affect the September 19th matchup with the Bulldogs from the opening series.

The Seahawks played their first home game on Saturday night since winning Super Bowl LX. Coach Mike Macdonald was impressed by the turnout from the fans.
He was not impressed by the performance of the team.
"We owe them a better performance, to say the least," Macdonald told reporters after the 17-7 loss to the Cowboys. San Diego Padres center fielder Jackson Merrill earned himself an additional $5 million with his 500th plate appearance on Friday.
The 2026 milestone kicked in a clause in Merrill's contract that adds an $1 million to his salary for five years, increasing the total value of his contract from $135 million to a minimum of $140 million.
Merrill signed a nine-year extension with the Padres early in 2025 after just one year in the majors, finishing runner-up in the 2024 NL Rookie of the Year voting, also finishing ninth in MVP voting as a 21-year-old.

This was a pre-season finale to forget for Manchester United.
Just a week away from their Premier League opener at promoted Hull City on Saturday, Michael Carrick's men took the lead twice against AC Milan before finishing on the wrong end of a 4-2 beating.
First, the positives.
Marcus Rashford, Kobbie Mainoo and Lisandro Martinez all made their first appearances of pre-season. Skipper Bruno Fernandes and Youri Tielemans played for the full 90 minutes.
From the looks of it, there are no fresh injury concerns for Michael Carrick at the end of a six-match pre-season that has been largely positive, albeit with a foot issue for Mason Mount in Gothenburg seven days ago that was initially shrugged off as a precaution but has now kept the in-form midfielder out for almost three full games.

The Cincinnati Bengals may have found something at the bottom of the 2026 NFL Draft.
Rookie tight end Jack Endries made his presence felt Thursday night in Cincinnati's 16-14 preseason victory over the Detroit Lions, finishing with three receptions for 25 yards and catching the Bengals' only touchdown.
And his first NFL touchdown came from a quarterback who has been playing professional football almost as long as Endries has been alive. Joe Flacco found Endries for a four-yard touchdown, giving the rookie a moment he won't soon forget.
"Awesome person to catch a touchdown from," Endries said after the game. "That guy's a legend. I play catch with him every day, so it's cool. Got a little connection there."
Flacco apparently understood what the moment meant to the 22-year-old. After the play, the veteran quarterback made sure the football didn't disappear.

Mackenzie Dern successfully defended her strawweight **** le with a largely one-sided but somewhat lackluster outing against Gillian Robertson in the UFC 330 co-main event.
Takedowns and submission attempts ruled the day for Dern as she came close to finishing Robertson a couple of times during the fight but she mostly just maintained control and showed she was the superior grappler. Robertson really didn't produce any offense until the final round and even then she just managed to stay in control on the ground without really damaging Dern.
When it was over the judges scored the fight 49-46, 49-46 and 48-47 with Dern getting the unanimous decision victory.
"I'm super happy," Dern said about her win. "My first **** le win I got taken down a lot of times so I've been working on my wrestling. I'm still the champion. I definitely wanted to submit her, that was the goal. I try to get submissions in all my fights. I wish I could do some more damage to set up the submissions."
A striking exchange led to Robertson shooting for a takedown but Dern countered effectively before the strawweights separated again. Dern was very effective with her combinations including a stiff leg kick that kept chipping away at Robertson's base.

CLEVELAND (AP) — A milestone win that included a bunch of zeros felt even bigger for the Guardians.
Joey Cantillo and three relievers combined on a one-hitter as Cleveland became the third AL franchise to reach 10,000 victories with a 6-1 win over the San Diego Padres on Saturday night.
Cantillo (9-7), who was drafted by San Diego in 2017, gave up a single in the first inning and pitched the first six before Colin Holderman, Hunter Gaddis and Erik Sabrowski put the finishing touches in ending the Padres' winning streak at six.
The Guardians, who were founded in 1901, joined the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox as the only AL teams at the 10K plateau. Eight NL franchises have gotten to 10,000 wins.
"It's cool," said Cantillo, who got his first win since July 12. "That's a lot of wins. Good franchise and obviously, it's been around for a long time. So obviously we want to keep getting some wins and the wins that matter."

Cincinnati Bengals CB Ceyair Wright will likely not make his NFL debut in the 2026-27 season after the rookie left training camp.
Wright spent three seasons with the USC Trojans before finishing his NCAA career with one year on the Nebraska Cornhuskers.
Despite going undrafted, the CB was signed by the Bengals as an undrafted free agent. However, the former child actor Wright is going to try his hand at a Hollywood career despite being on an NFL team.
The Bengals revealed that Wright is stepping away from camp for a major acting opportunity on Saturday, with head coach Zac Taylor later discussing the situation and praising Wright.
"He called us last night and let us know. It was a difficult thing for him. I think the two things he's really passionate about were colliding, and he decided to pursue this opportunity. He was fun to be around, and he really competed hard for us. I think he was ascending as a player, but he chose to go on a different path."

Jalin Turner kept his 100% finish rate in tact earlier tonight (Sat., Aug. 15, 2026) at UFC 330 LIVE on Paramount+ from inside Xfinity Mobile Arena in Philadelphia, Penn., as "Tarantula" put a quick stop to lightweight striker Kaue Fernandes with a 39-second knockout (punches).
Turner, who retired for about six months in 2025, was coming off a knockout win over Edson Barboza last December. The lightweight contender was a large betting favorite when odds first released, but money came in on Fernandes as the fight got closer. Some thought Fernandes' slick leg kicks and finishing ability could be enough to hand Turner the fifth knockout loss of his career.
This fight was nearly over before it even started. The two fighters exchanged a few shots over the first 30 seconds of action before Turner unloaded a perfectly-timed left hand that dropped Fernandes. Turner quickly rushed over and unloaded brutal punches from top position that had Fernandes' head moving like a speed bag. The referee finally stepped in as Fernandes' eyes rolled in the back of his head.

This is the UFC 330 live blog for Mansur Abdul-Malik vs. Dustin Stoltzfus, the main card middleweight bout Saturday at Xfinity Mobile Arena in Philadelphia.
Abdul-Malik (9-1-1) is a highly touted 185-pound prospect who has already earned a reputation for his potent finishing ability, having won seven of his first 10 fights in the first round. The 28-year-old American suffered his first pro defeat this past March, losing by third-round knockout to experienced kickboxer Yousri Belgaroui. So far, Abdul-Malik has won three of five UFC fights, all by knockout or submission.
The experienced Stoltzfus (16-8) is likely fighting for his job as he looks to avoid a third straight loss. Stoltzfus has struggled to find success inside the octagon, currently sitting on a 3-7 UFC record, with his most recent defeat coming at the hands of Kelvin Gastelum. He enters UFC 330 as one of the biggest underdogs on the card.
