GLASGOW, Scotland (AP) — Scotland hired Sébastien Pocognoli as its new coach on Sunday to replace Steve Clarke, who stepped down from the role after the team was eliminated from the World Cup without advancing from its group.
Pocognoli, a former Belgium international, was fired by Monaco on June 1 after a seventh-place finish in the French league and missing out on Champions League qualification.
The 39-year-old Pocognoli signed a two-year deal that takes him through to the European Championship in 2028 that Scotland is co-hosting.
He was described by the Scottish FA as "one of Europe's brightest emerging coaching talents," with his big success being leading Union Saint-Gilloise to its first Belgian league ****** le in 90 years in 2025.
"When I first heard of the interest, I was immediately excited about the opportunity," said Pocognoli, who underlined how impressed he was by the passion of Scotland's supporters that was on show during the country's first World Cup appearance in 28 years.

The 39-year-old Belgian takes charge after a short spell at Monaco, where he was dismissed at the end of last season following a seventh-placed finish in Ligue 1.
Despite that setback, Pocognoli arrives with an impressive achievement on his CV, having guided Union Saint-Gilloise to their first Belgian league **** le in 90 years during the 2024-25 campaign.
Pocognoli will become only the second overseas manager to take charge of Scotland, following in the footsteps of Berti Vogts, who led the national side between 2002 and 2004.

There are a number of battles going on for the Chicago Bears during training camp and preseason, including running back depth behind D'Andre Swift and Kyle Monangai.
Assuming the Bears carry three running backs like last year's initial 53-man roster, there's one spot available between Roschon Johnson and Salvon Ahmed, among others. And the competition kicked into gear during Saturday's preseason opener against the Clelvenad Browns.
Johnson got the most carries out of any running back in the Bears' win against the Browns. He finished the game with eight rushes for 34 yards, including a 19-yard gain that set up Chicago's first touchdown of the preseason midway through the second quarter.
Ahmed did not get as many rushing opportunities, as he only had two rushing attempts, but he turned those attempts into 17 yards. However, he made a difference as a pass catcher with three receptions for 55 yards including a 49-yard touchdown to give the Bears a 17-10 lead at the beginning of the third quarter. Head coach Ben Johnson had a lot of praise for Ahmed after the game.
"Yeah, we feel good about those top two backs right now and where they're at. So, the battle for three, four, five, whatever that looks like, a lot comes down to special teams," Johnson said. "A lot comes down to how do you separate yourself from those top two guys? What's your skillset? How's it different? He got that slashing mentality where he's hard to bring down in ******* e, and that showed up again today. Showed up in practice really throughout camp so far. We'll continue to challenge him to find a defined role there on special teams where he can help us out the most there. And then pass protection, how do we continue to improve? When you're a little bit smaller as a running back… that's always what I'm looking for is, how well, how stout are we holding up to a blitzing linebacker as well."

Aug. 16—MITCHELL — The Clark Traders have spent the 2026 postseason finding ways to win games they probably had no business winning.
On Friday night at Cadwell Park, they found another one. After trailing by four runs early, committing five errors and being outhit 12-8, the Traders continued their remarkable postseason run by rallying past the Hartford/Humboldt Wood Ducks 7-6 in the Class B state amateur baseball tournament semifinals.
And with that, Clark is headed somewhere no Clark baseball team has gone in 41 years.
The Traders will play in the Class B state amateur championship game for the first time in club history at 2 p.m. Sunday at Cadwell Park, following the Class A championship between the Harrisburg Woodies and Renner Monarchs. The last Clark team to reach a Class B state championship game was the Clark Cubs 41 years ago.
"We were down early, just like we have been in every single game this tournament, and the guys just stuck with it," Clark active manager and third-base coach David Grantham said. "The perseverance, the patience, and again, the breaks were going our way. They all believe in themselves and each other."

Last season, the Badgers finished their 4-8 campaign with the third-worst scoring offense in the nation, scoring a paltry 12.8 points per game.However, after an offensive revamp that has seen a new starting quarterback, Colton Joseph, join the program, there has been a refresh ******* on hit heading into a crucial season for Fickell.In a recent interview with the Big Ten Network, the Old Dominion transfer was asked what to expect from the Badgers' 2026 offense.
"Explosiveness, I think we're going to be explosive. Big plays down the field, big runs, big passes, all of it, and we're going to score a lot of points," Joseph said.
In 2025, Joseph was a key part of what was measured as the nation's 30th-best scoring offense with the Old Dominion Monarchs, which averaged 30.2 points, along with a stellar 447.3 yards per game. If Joseph can settle in quickly and second-year offensive coordinator Jeff Grimes can steady the offense, then there is no reason why this Wisconsin side can't make it to Fickell's second bowl, but if the Badgers take one too many missteps, then the future could be bleak.

There are many reasons this could be true, and one of the main ones could be Charles' unconventional bed set-up. Queen Camilla's sister Annabel Elliot said in the book Charles III: New King. New Court. The Inside Story, that the royals have different preferences when it comes to heating and duvets.

Newcastle United has been linked with yet another potential attacking addition as Matthias Jaissle continues **** sing a squad that struggled for consistent goals last season.
According to L'Équipe's Flavien Trésarrieu, Thomas Doucet and Loïc Tanzi, Newcastle has been closely monitoring Monaco striker Folarin Balogun since the beginning of the summer, although Tottenham has already made a move for the United States international and could beat the Magpies to the American.
"Since the start of the summer, several English [clubs] like Newcastle and Spanish clubs have been closely monitoring the player," L'Équipe reported. "Tottenham have made their move in recent hours. Balogun is represented by Jorge Mendes and remains under contract at Monaco through 2028, leaving the Ligue 1 club in a relatively strong position if Newcastle or another interested side decides to challenge Tottenham.

Once news broke that Josh Kushner and Bob Iger had agreed to purchase a majority share of the Los Angeles Lakers from Mark Walter this week, questions arose about how they would run the franchise. Part of that speculation has to do with any immediate or quick changes that could be made.
Ramona Shelburne of ESPN said that Chris Paul is a name to watch as far as someone who could be brought into the organization. Paul recently retired, ending a legendary 21-season career in the NBA as one of the league's better point guards of all time, and he has had a close friendship with Iger that goes back a number of years.
In an article for the California Post, Khobi Price shed some light on what type of role Paul could hold with the Lakers if he were to be hired by Kushner and Iger. While it is unknown how much interest Paul has in joining the organization, one person who works in the front office of an NBA team said that the future Hall of Famer could be a consultant.
"A front office member on an Eastern Conference team told the Post they could see Paul, at least initially, best fitting in as a consultant as someone who people around the organization can pick the brain of the 12-time All-Star," Price wrote.
"'Just comes down to commitment and how much he listens,' the front office member told the Post of Paul's fit as an executive. 'Understanding [the] game at such a higher level goes such a long way.'"

Liverpool's pursuit of Bradley Barcola has dragged on long enough to invite doubt, noise and the usual transfer-window nonsense. Strip that away and the position looks fairly clear. Liverpool want the player, the player wants Liverpool, and Paris Saint-Germain may finally be approaching the point where keeping him becomes less important than cashing in at the right price.
That is the crux of the latest update, with credit to Ben Jacobs on GiveMeSport's Market Madness podcast. The key line remains unchanged: "Liverpool feel they've got that Barcola buy-in, so the only way someone else is going to beat Liverpool in Liverpool's eyes, at least, and I stress that's Liverpool's sources' perspective, is if they get completely outbid and then back away."
That matters because it frames this as a deal Liverpool believe they can still control. **** nal may admire Barcola, and plenty of elite clubs will keep an eye on any forward of this level, but admiration is cheap. Convincing the player is harder, and by all accounts Liverpool think they have done that part already.
The real development is not on Merseyside, it is in Paris. PSG are reshaping their attacking options, and once clubs start stockpiling players in the same area of the pitch, priorities change. As Jacobs explained, "And now, what is the domino or three dominoes really is Maghnes Akliouche coming in from Monaco, Ferran Torres coming in from Barcelona, plus the fact that Mika Godts is expected to join from Ajax. That's three attack-minded players, and suddenly PSG have more urgency to sell Barcola. So Liverpool have been playing a waiting game in order to see whether that 170 million euro price drops. Now PSG are about to add two more editions on top of Akliouche."
That is where this starts to look less like wishful thinking and more like sensible timing. Liverpool were never likely to sprint into a €170 million, £145m, agreement unless they had no alternative. They have already spent heavily in recent windows, and no serious club keeps throwing £100m-plus fees around without calculating the consequences. Waiting for market pressure to build on PSG was logical.

The Chicago Bears are going to run plenty of 13-personnel in 2026. Head coach Ben Johnson was a big fan of those types of packages as the offensive coordinator for the Detroit Lions, and he's now expected to use them in Chicago.
With Colston Loveland and Cole Kmet already in place, they surprised some with the selection of Sam Roush in the third round of the 2026 NFL Draft. Why did they take a tight end so early when they already have two great ones? It's to run those 13-personnel packages, where quarterback Caleb Williams will be surrounded by three tight ends, one wide receiver, one running back, and five offensive linemen.
There are multiple reasons why Johnson wants to execute an offense with these types of plays in the mix. For one, it helps establish the run game. A lot of big bodies will be crowded up at the line of scrimmage as a result of this formation, creating gaps for guys like D'Andre Swift and Kyle Monangai to take advantage of.
With the run game established in the 13-personnel, that opens the door for play action, which would then allow Williams to make a play for his receiving options, which likely includes at least one of the tight ends. With Loveland and Kmet specifically, mismatches can arise when they are all out there at the same time.
What players would take the field in a 13-personnel? For one, Williams will be out there with one of his running backs. Swift is the ideal player for this, but Monangai is sure to get his fair share of carries as well. It will be a true team effort in that regard.

In a surprising turn of events, the new owner of the Los Angeles Lakers, Mark Walter, has reportedly decided to sell the team less than one year after his initial purchase. Walter finalized his purchase of a majority stake in the Lakers on October 30, 2025, for a then-record amount of $10 million.
Now, as ESPN's Ramona Shelburne first reported, Walter will sell the Lakers to businessman Josh Kushner and Bob Iger for a new record-setting amount of $12 million. King Charles reportedly takes unusual control over his daily meals. His former head chef, Visen Anenden, says the monarch stays closely involved and pays attention to where his ingredients come from. Anenden, who served as Charles' head chef for nearly a decade, told Marie Claire that the King has a genuine passion for food and takes a keen interest in what he eats.
According to Anenden, as reported by The Royal Observer, Charles prefers seasonal ingredients and often sources produce directly from royal estates. "He's very seasonal, and everything comes from the estate," Anenden explained. "He always wants to know where something has come from, so menus were very particular."
The chef said the menus could also change depending on where the royal family stayed. Meals at Balmoral, for example, could look very different from those served at Highgrove. When the family stayed at Balmoral, Anenden said the kitchen relied heavily on what the estate's garden could provide.
"It would be only what you could source from the garden," he explained. That approach gave Anenden and his team a practical lesson in farm-to-table cooking. "You really learn how the farm-to-fork aspect works, and it's a phenomenal lesson for a chef!" he said.
Anenden also revealed how much food Charles and Queen Camilla eat. The former chef said they watch their diets closely and usually avoid large portions. "The thing with the royals is that they don't eat a lot," he said. "It was always small portions. It's never substantial, loaded plates at all, never," he added.
