For many Americans, retirement was once expected to come with the major financial milestone of owning a home free and clear. New research from Visa (NYSE:V) shows a rising number of older Americans are still carrying mortgage debt well into retirement.
Some 41% of homeowners between ages 65 and 79 still have mortgage debt as of 2022, according to new research from Visa. Even among homeowners age 80 and older, 31% are still making mortgage payments, up from just 3% in 1989.

With Alec Pierce recovering from off-season ankle surgery the Indianapolis wide receiver room was beginning to feel concerning. A single injury to Josh Downs (who recently left practice with what was described as an "upper body injury") could have been catastrophic to the offense's chance to repeat the success it had during the first half of 2025.
Enter Keenan Allen.
In the weeks leading up to training camp and the preseason, many speculated that Indy could be interested in Allen in the days and weeks leading up to the start of the season. It made sense. He needed a team, the Colts needed a receiver, Indy has an offensive playcaller familiar with the veteran receiver and more importantly, Allen's familiarity with Steichen's offensive system. Most of the time moves this obvious don't happen for one reason or another but this ended up being the rare NFL scenario of what seemed like such an obvious solution, actually happening.
Time will tell if this signing will move any needles for an Indy offense that will likely lean hard on second year tight end Tyler Warren and it's ground game headed up by Jonathan Taylor, as always. But on paper signing a former six time Pro Bowler who caught 81 passes a season ago, this move though not flashy, could end up being just what the offense needs to continue to grow, evolve and produce the kinds of results everyone in the Colts' building is hoping for and expecting.
I have been told that this deal has taken quite a bit of time to hammer out and it isn't something the Colts recently decided to do. If that's true (and I have no reason to believe it isn't) there's no reason to panic over Alec Pierce's ankle or Josh Downs' recent practice injury. At least not yet.

Keenan Allen is headed to Indianapolis.
The Colts struck a one-year, $8.32 million deal with the veteran wide receiver on Monday night, according to NFL insider Jordan Schultz.
Allen has spent nearly his entire career with the Chargers organization, which first selected him in the third round of the 2013 NFL Draft. He was on a one-year, $3.02 million deal with the franchise last season, and became a free agent this summer.
The 34-year-old had 777 receiving yards and four touchdowns on 81 catches last season with the Chargers. He's earned six Pro Bowl nods throughout his career, and has six 1,000-yard seasons to his name. He earned Comeback Player of the Year honors in 2017, too, after missing nearly all of the 2016 season with a torn ACL.
Now that he's found a home for the 2026 campaign, Allen will get to reunite with longtime Chargers **** istant Shane Steichen in Indianapolis. Steichen, who is entering his fourth season as the Colts' head coach, worked his way up through the Chargers' coaching staff and was their offensive coordinator for two seasons with Allen as one of their primary targets.

The Colts are expected to sign longtime Chargers wide receiver Keenan Allen, a source confirmed to IndyStar. It adds a six-time Pro Bowler who in eight of his 13 seasons in the NFL has caught at least six touchdowns and at least 80 ***** seven times – including last year.
Allen lands in Indianapolis after a one-season return to Los Angeles in 2025 to rejoin the franchise that drafted him 76th overall in 2013 and where he spent the first 11 seasons of his career – and 12 of 13 overall. Allen was traded to the Chicago Bears in March of 2024 and played a single season with the NFC North team before opting to sign with the Chargers just over a year ago during Los Angeles' training camp as a free agent.
That one-year deal made the 34-year-old again a free agent this spring, and he remains unquestionably the top free agent wideout on the market – not to mention seemingly a premier fit in head coach Shane Steichen's offense.
For a coach who prizes separation at the top of routes and a trusted pair of hands above just about anything else, Allen still fits the bill as he nears the end of his career. Though he's been one nearly his entire career, the Colts don't need Allen to be a No. 1 receiver with unquestioned WR1 Alec Pierce ascending to a more all-around this role this year coming off a season where then-rookie tight end Tyler Warren led the Colts in targets (112) and two seasons ago when starting slot receiver Josh Downs led the team in receptions (72).
But after the loss of Michael Pittman Jr. in March to a salary-dump trade to the Steelers, it was widely-believed the Colts had not done enough to replace not only his production – 80 catches for 784 yards and seven touchdowns – but his veteran leadership and presence in a room where the oldest players – free agent signee Nick Westbrooke-Ikhine (29 years old), Ashton Dulin (29) and Laquon Treadwell (31) had been fighting in training camp for the Nos. 3 and 4 WR spots in the Colts offense.

Michigan sophomore quarterback Bryce Underwood, running back Jordan Marshall, safety Rod Moore and defensive tackle Trey Pierce are the Wolverines captains this season after a vote by the team.
Underwood, who started last year as a freshman, is the Wolverines' first sophomore to be voted captain, and Marshall the first junior — both represent the offense. Moore is a three-time captain, and this is the first time Pierce has been voted captain.
The captains were announced Monday night. Michigan is in preseason camp preparing for the season which opens Sept. 5 against Western Michigan.
Head coach Kyle Whittingham also announced the Leadership Council, which also was voted on by the players. The team captains and these 12 players are on the leadership council: safety Nico Andrighetto, cornerback Zeke Berry, linebacker Troy Bowles, defensive ends Cam Brandt and John Henry Daley, receivers Andrew Marsh and J.J. Buchanan, defensive tackle Enow Etta and offensive linemen Blake Frazier, Jake Guarnera and Andrew Sprague, and cornerback Jyaire Hill.

Will we see any of the Indianapolis Colts' starters during the preseason this year?
In the preseason opener against New England, the Colts' starters did not play. That will also be the case this week against Atlanta.
However, in the preseason finale, Shane Steichen is at least somewhat contemplating playing his starters.
"Most likely Game 3," Shane Steichen said on Sunday, via Colts.com. "Right now, Game 2, we're obviously going to get the two joints against Atlanta; those will be the game for those guys. And then I'll make a decision for Game 3."
With most teams taking part in joint practices, that has taken the place of preseason reps for many starters, as Steichen said.

Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Strawweight champion Mackenzie Dern successfully defended her 115-pound strap against Gillian Robertson in UFC 330's co-main event this past weekend (Sat., Aug. 15, 2026) inside Xfinity Mobile Arena in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
It was a dominant, one-sided unanimous decision victory. However, even after Dern's first successful ****** le defense, one name continues to loom large over the division: former champion Weili Zhang.
That is because Zhang never lost the Strawweight ****** le. Instead, she vacated it to pursue a second championship, only to get blanked by Flyweight queen Valentina Shevchenko in a noncompetitive fight.
In Zhang's absence, Dern defeated Virna Jandiroba to capture the vacant belt and has now successfully defended it.

Hayden Panettiere, who has died at 36, spent most of her life in front of the camera.
The actor appeared in her first commercial at just 11 months old, then was cast in the soap opera One Life to Live when she was 4. As an adult, she became a primetime TV star with Heroes and Nashville.
Panettiere's father, Skip, announced the actor's death in a statement provided to ABC News on Sunday. "It is with profound sadness that we share the tragic passing of our beloved Hayden. She was an incredible light and a force of nature who brought immeasurable love and joy to all who knew her — and to the millions who watched her onscreen," his statement said.
The cause of death has not yet been announced. Her publicist, Kasey Kitchen, told NBC News, "There's an investigation ongoing. We should know more tomorrow."
From an animated favorite to horror films and sports movies, Panettiere built a wide-ranging résumé over more than three decades. Here are seven of her most memorable roles.

As Jake points out in his piece this morning, we're on the cusp of potentially seeing some big changes to the Red Sox roster and everyday lineup. Roman Anthony isn't coming back to Boston to ride the bench, of course. And while this will make a lot of fans groan, I think the same can be said of Trevor Story. So as the Sox get healthy, we're about to say goodbye to some bit-part players who turned into unexpected contributors to the 2026 Red Sox
Those unexpected contributors are one of the most fun parts of baseball. We get them every year, and we almost never see them coming, which, of course, is where the fun comes in. Which bit-part player will you remember most fondly from the 2026 team? Andrew Monasterio, Anthony Seigler, Jahmai Jones, Nick Sogard, Tsung-Che Cheng Mickey Gasper, Nate Eaton, Tyron Guerrero, Eduardo Rivera, and even Jake Rogers have all had their moments, and all will be remembered to varying degrees. You could even put Jake Bennett into this category, though he's likely to be a meaningful contributor for years to come, unlike those other names.
Talk about modern-day Pedro Ciriacos and whatever else you want in this ****** e and, as always, be good to one another.

Real Madrid have in the early stages of an exciting new era, spearheaded by returning head coach Jose Mourinho. The Portuguese was brought back by Jose Mourinho earlier in the summer, and so far, his second spell in charge has gone well, with Sunday's 3-0 victory over Schalke making it four wins and a draw in pre-season.
Thibaut Courtois was one of the Real Madrid players featuring for the first time in pre-season against Schalke, and after the match, he spoke to Real Madrid TV (via MD) to reflect on the victory in Gelsenkirchen, as well as how he is feeling ahead of his ninth season as a Los Blancos player.
"I feel very good. I did a lot of gym on my holidays to be well, I came a couple of days before because I felt that I had to do some individual work to be well, today I tested myself and felt good. Today was the last test before starting the season and it was important to play a good game. I think we did it, we were safe at the back, created many chances, good play. Physically I see everyone very well."
Real Madrid are determined to bounce back after two consecutive seasons without a major trophy, and Courtois believes that this group is the one to turn things around at the Bernabeu during the 2026-27 campaign.
"There is a lot of enthusiasm. After the World Cup we have arrived little by little, but the team is looking forward to it, everyone wants a great season, I see a lot of dedication and a lot of desire to start. (Mourinho asks for) a lot of concentration at every moment of the game, in corners, fouls, every second of the game, playing well and seriously."

Chennai Super Kings are preparing for a significant transition after the end of Stephen Fleming's 18-year ***** ociation with the franchise, and former India opener K Srikkanth believes Michael Hussey could be the ideal man to take the team forward. Fleming's departure has left CSK searching for a new head coach for the first time in nearly two decades. The former New Zealand captain joined the franchise as a player in the inaugural IPL season in 2008 before taking over as head coach in 2009.
Over the next 17 years, Fleming became one of the central figures behind CSK's identity, guiding the franchise to five IPL ***** les and two Champions League T20 trophies. His exit comes after CSK missed the playoffs for three consecutive seasons.
Fleming has since taken up a new challenge, being appointed England's Test head coach, replacing Brendon McCullum.
As speculation grows over Fleming's successor, former India and CSK player Ravichandran Ashwin recently suggested that former England white-ball captain Eoin Morgan could be among the names in contention. Srikkanth, however, has firmly rejected that possibility.
"I won't go for Eoin Morgan for sure. He was a good player and a good captain for England. But as a coach, I won't accept him as an option. Even for KKR as their captain, he didn't do anything great. It'll be best if he just sticks to commentary," said Srikkanth, speaking on his YouTube channel.
He also advised CSK against considering Brendon McCullum, who previously coached Kolkata Knight Riders and guided them to the IPL final in 2021.
"It'll be good for CSK if they don't appoint Brendon McCullum as the head coach. They should say no to both Morgan and McCullum," he added.
Instead, Srikkanth believes CSK already have a familiar figure within their ecosystem who could seamlessly step into the role. His choice is former CSK opener Michael Hussey, who has previously worked with the franchise as a batting coach.
"CSK don't need anyone from outside when they have Mr Cricket with him. Michael Hussey should be the automatic head coach. He will be the best choice," Srikkanth said.
The coaching vacancy is only one part of a much bigger transition facing CSK. The franchise's most successful era was built around the close partnership between Fleming and MS Dhoni, with the duo forming the tactical and cultural backbone of the team for years.
Dhoni's future is another major question for the franchise, particularly as CSK look to build around captain Ruturaj Gaikwad and a younger core. Srikkanth himself believes that issue needs to be settled before the franchise can properly determine its next coaching structure.
"But what will MS Dhoni's place in CSK be going forward? That arrangement has to be fixed first, and only then will everything else fall in place," he said.
That could prove to be the most important decision of CSK's transition.

It wasn't the news that the Arizona Cardinals wanted to hear, running back Jeremiyah Love, the star taken No. 3 overall out of Notre Dame may miss the rest of the preseason after suffering an ankle injury during Thursday's victory over the Oakland Raiders according to Adam Schefter.
The potential starter had a fantastic first showing, rushing for 58-yards on 11 carries with three catches for 14-yards. As with all preseason games, the top players don't get much run, so this was just a taste of what Love can do. Every trait that you want to see from a running back is there, as he used his spin move that wowed social media.
You have to wonder if the Cardinals made the right choice by sitting Love for its first preseason game, as head coach Mike LaFleur said following the contest that he is "a rookie that hadn't played much." Unfortunately, that is going to be the case for the next few weeks, as Love will be looked at again next week and then re-evaluated. The Cardinals are hopeful that he'll be ready to go for the season opener against the Los Angeles Chargers.

Colts special teams coordinator Brian Mason will be working from a new spot for the rest of the preseason.
Mason tore multiple ligaments in his knee when he was involved in a sideline collision during the team's first preseason game and has been working at the team's practices using a large brace. Head coach Shane Steichen indicated that he is passing on having surgery for now, but the team will have him coach from a booth upstairs for their two remaining games this summer.
"He's pretty tough," Steichen said, via Joel A. Erickson of the Indianapolis Star. "Obviously, he's back out here in a brace. I think, right now, he's going to let that thing heal. He has some serious injuries, which is wild, but he's going to be up in the box for these next two preseason games, just for precautionary reasons."
Steichen said that Mason wants to remain on the sideline, but the head coach feels there's too much risk to have that happen in the next few weeks.

Nico Elvedi's proposed move from Borussia Mönchengladbach to Leeds United is on the verge of completion.
After Elvedi agreed personal terms with Leeds, Sky Germany reported on Sunday that the two clubs had agreed a transfer fee of €10 million, plus a 15 per cent sell-on clause for the German side.
The German broadcaster now reports that Elvedi is in England, where he is currently undergoing his medical ahead of the move.
If all goes according to plan, the Switzerland international will be announced as a new Leeds player shortly.
Elvedi, 29, has spent the last 11 years at Borussia-Park.

Following Sunday's training camp practice, Indianapolis Colts' head coach Shane Steichen provided some brief injury updates on Charvarius Ward and Alec Pierce.
Ward did not travel with the team to New England for the joint practice or preseason game last week as he works through a back injury. GM Chris Ballard said Ward was dealing with some "pain and irritation."
He did not practice on Saturday or Sunday either.
"He's just dealing with back pain right now," Steichen said, via Colts.com. "And that's where it's at right now. When I get another update, I'll let you guys know."
Pierce has not yet returned to the practice field since undergoing offseason ankle surgery. Ballard mentioned that the plan was for Pierce to be ready for Week 1.

Pumas struggled at home in a 0-0 tie against Queretaro. After an improving start to the Apertura 2026, their terrible Leagues Cup participation seemed to have influenced their Liga MX campaign as they had trouble in a match they were favored to win. Queretaro has been one of the surprising teams in Liga MX and they had a good plan to counter Pumas, which paid off. Pumas will stay at home before taking on Necaxa on Sunday while Queretaro will also host but will have a tougher match when they face off against Toluca.
The 1st half started with Pumas taking the surprising decision of starting with Uriel Antuna to take the place of Alvaro Angulo, a strange move especially with Cristian Calderon on the bench. From outside the area, Adalberto Carrasquilla was given time and **** e to get off a great left footed shot that forced a wonderful save from Queretaro's goalkeeper, Guillermo Allison. In the ensuing corner kick, the ball would eventually fall to Robert Morales but his right footed volley went well wide. A cross into the area was headed wide from close range by Juninho. A cross into the area was just missed by Daniel Parra but he would not get to it, had he gotten to it, he would have had a close range empty net chance. Antuna got the ball in the area but his shot went wide. A cross into the area was headed wide by Juninho. The 1st half ended with neither team making much out of their play in a very even match.
The 2nd half started with neither team making a substitution. Santiago Homenchenko got off a left footed shot that would go just wide. From outside the area, Carrasquilla got off a left footed shot that Allison easily saved. A left footed cross from Antuna turned into a shot that was just wide. Queretaro subbed out Paolo Victor and Alejandro Alcala for Erik Dueñas and Waldo Madrid. After getting into the area, Dueñas got off a right footed shot that went wide. After making a good move in the area, Madrid got off a low right footed shot that forced a good save from Pumas' goalkeeper, Keylor Navas. A great cross into the area found Antuna, whose left footed shot went wide. Pumas subbed out Juninho and Pedro Vite for Alan Medina and Luciano Herrera. A run into the area ended with the ball being deflected into the path of Herrera, whose left footed shot went wide. Victor Arteaga got off a right footed shot from outside the area that went terribly wide. Queretaro subbed out Carlos Adriano and Bayron Duarte for Bernardo Parra and Jean Unjanque. Pumas subbed out Uriel Antuna and Antonion Leone for Guillermo Martinez and Cristian Calderon. A longball into the area found Ali Avila but his low shot was saved by Navas. A dangerous cross was saved by Allison before the ball could get to Herrera for a close range chance. Pumas subbed out Adalberto Carrasquilla for Santiago Trigos. Off a corner kick, Martinez got off a header that was saved by Allison. Queretaro subbed out Ali Avila for Eduardo Perez. The whistle blew as Queretaro got off an important

Rookie Anne Chen had made only one cut on the LPGA this season prior to this week and a grand total of $7,097. Chen closed with a 6-under 66 at The Standard Portland Classic thanks to playing her last five holes in 5 under, including an ace on the par-3 eighth. She earned $29,230 for the week after a T-14 finish.
CME donates $20,000 to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital for every ace made on tour.
Duke's Chen began the final round at Columbia Edgewater Country Club on the 10th hole. After making the turn in 34, she turned up the heat with a run of three birdies beginning on the fifth hole. Then came the ace.
"Well, you know, it was a good pin," said Chen after the round. "It's one of the shorter par 3s as well, so when you can kind of take advantage of it, be a little careful because there is a lot of water on the right-hand side.
"But I had like a small 9-iron and it was 134, so I was like, anywhere near the hole could be good, give myself a chance for birdie. Then it jumped into the hole and I was like 'Oh, OK."

WESTFIELD — Colts special teams coordinator Brian Mason will coach the two remaining preseason games from the press box on the orders of head coach Shane Steichen.
Mason suffered multiple torn ligaments in his left knee when two players rolled up his leg on the final play of the Colts' preseason tie against the Patriots. Indianapolis team doctors realized immediately that Mason was dealing with something significant.
But the Indianapolis special teams coordinator waved off the cart and walked off the field at Gillette Stadium, and he immediately returned to practice when the Colts were back on the field Saturday. From the sounds of it, Mason is not planning to have surgery on the joint.
"He's pretty tough," Steichen said. "Obviously, he's back out here in a brace. I think, right now, he's going to let that thing heal. He has some serious injuries, which is wild, but he's going to be up in the box for these next two preseason games, just for precautionary reasons."
Mason has coached from the field the last two days, wearing a sizable brace on his left leg.

The relationship between Marc O'Polo and Gisele Bündchen is only growing stronger. The pair's current long-standing relationship came to fruition in the Fall 2024 campaign season, when the Swedish-German fashion brand endorsed the Brazilian supermodel as the face and embodiment of the label that was founded in 1967 by Rolf Lind, Göte Huss and Jerry O'Sheets. Fast forward a handful of campaigns later to the Fall 2026 season, and it's a repeat performance. Once again, Bündchen teams up with the photographer Lachlan Bailey and stylist Geraldine Saglio. This time around, Gisele (doing exactly what Gisele does best) retreats from the great outdoors of Miami to the comfort of a photographic studio, showcasing the collection that focuses on natural fabrics and a neutral color palette.

Inter Milan have strengthened their squad this summer with English talent after securing deals for John Stones and Djed Spence.
Spence completed his £30m transfer to the Italian champions from Tottenham Hotspur this weekend, and will link up with England teammate Stones at the San Siro, following the latter's free transfer move earlier this summer.
Stones and Spence have become only the fourth and fifth Englishman to have signed for one of Italian football's giants.
Gerry Hitchens became the first English footballer to sign for Inter Milan after arriving from Aston Villa for a fee of £85,000 in 1961.
Hitchens had scored 96 goals in 160 games for Aston Villa, and caught the attention of Inter after netting twice for England in a 3-2 win over Italy in Rome earlier in the year.

On Saturday, Rocco Reitz was rewarded for his hard work in pre-season. In the 58th minute of the Telekom-Cup, our summer signing was brought on for Nicolas Seiwald and played his first half an hour in an RBL jersey.
Rocco's debut was a highlight of the match which ultimately ended in a 3-1 defeat for the Red Bulls. "I was really happy to be back on the pitch and doing what I love," said the 24-year-old after the final whistle in an interview with MagentaTV.
The midfielder who joined Leipzig from Borussia Mönchengladbach had a delayed start to his first pre-season at RBL due to an illness. In the past few weeks, he's been gradually making up ground. His cameo against Bayern was his first real test. "The half an hour was quite a challenge, it went back and forth a lot," explained Rocco, before adding, "It's always good to go toe-to-toe with the best in the business."
Our number 20 has seen a lot of progress with a week to go before the start of the season, but also recognised that there is room for improvement. "We did a lot of things better compared to the previous friendlies. We were calm in possession and our gegenpressing was a bit better. There are still a couple of areas where we can improve, like our decision making among other things. But we're on the right track."
This Saturday, the first competitive fixture of the new season is on the agenda for Leipzig. At 18:00 CEST, RBL will travel to take on Regionalliga outfit Eintracht Trier in the first round of the DFB-Pokal. Unlike the match on Saturday, the Red Bulls are heading into the cup clash as clear favourites. Rocco called for "grit" in the match and stressed that, "We're the better side and have to make that clear in the game."
