BERLIN (AP) — Breanna Stewart was part of the U.S. Olympic team that beat France by one point in Paris two years ago.
The U.S. captain feels that victory has no barring on the rematch Sunday for the women's FIBA World Cup **** le.
"This is a completely new game and everybody has their own things that continue to motivate them," Stewart said after the U.S. topped Spain 76-66 in a semifinal Saturday. "I think that what I will continue to be preaching to this team is 'we're going to turn the page on everything.' This is one game to win the the gold medal at the World Cup in Berlin and that's our entire focus."
It's easy for Stewart to say that as more than half the U.S. roster in the World Cup wasn't on that Olympic team. Caitlin Clark, Angel Reese and Paige Bueckers are playing for their first championship with the national team. Stewart's already won three World Cup **** les since making her debut in 2014.
Kahleah Copper was a huge reason the U.S. was able to beat France two years ago. She had 12 points in that game.

The result ends St. Pauli's wait for a first league victory of the campaign, having collected just three points from their opening four matches before tonight's meeting. Wolfsburg, meanwhile, suffered their first defeat of the season after beginning the campaign unbeaten.
There was plenty of attacking intent from both sides during an entertaining first half, although neither could find the breakthrough.
Wolfsburg came closest inside the opening five minutes when Fabian Reese struck the crossbar from a free-kick, while St. Pauli goalkeeper Ben Voll was then forced into action to deny Muhammed Damar.
The hosts responded as Connor Metcalfe tested Jakub Zielinski from distance before Abdoulie Ceesay came close to opening the scoring in the 12th minute. The St. Pauli forward met a dangerous free-kick from close range but headed straight at the Wolfsburg goalkeeper.

NYCFC v Nashville SC — 7:30p on Apple TV: Matt Freese and NYCFC look to snap a five match winless streak on Friday night but they'll have to do it against league leading Nashville who have won four straight and have a nine point lead in the Supporters Shield standings.
Newcastle v Bournemouth — 7:30a on USA Network/Peacock: For the second straight week Tyler Adams came off the bench and Bournemouth conceded a late goal to drop points as Everton scored in stoppage time to draw level. Bournemouth will travel to Newcastle this weekend in search of their first win of the season as they face a Newcastle side coming off a 2-0 win over Tottenham.

The Americans have won 30 straight games in the tournament, dating to a loss to Russia in the 2006 semifinals. They'll have a young group of players trying to extend that run led by Caitlin Clark, Angel Reese and Paige Bueckers, who are making their debuts in the event.
It's not all youth for the U.S. as gold medal collector Breanna Stewart, who has already won three Olympic and three World Cup championships leads the squad.
France will be the main competitor for the Americans, having lost by only one point in the 2024 Paris Olympics gold medal game. The French team is hungry to avenge that loss. Other teams that could be a threat to end the U.S. streak include Spain, Belgium and China. The Chinese team lost to the Americans in the 2022 World Cup final.
The 16 teams were put into four groups and each will have a round-robin stage. The No. 18 ranked TCU volleyball team picked up its first win of the 2026 season Sunday, sweeping UNLV 25-17, 25-16, 33-31 to close out the Players Era Volleyball Showcase in Las Vegas. The Horned Frogs hit .264 as a team and limited the Rebels to a .139 hitting rate. The future is bright, and the future is now for Indiana Fever writes Robin Lundberg, as he believes the current crop of WNBA stars led by Caitlin Clark will bring plenty of success in Team USA's campaign in Berlin for the 2026 FIBA Women's World Cup.
With plenty of firepower in coach Kara Lawson's side, many feel that the time has come for the passing of the baton from the likes of Maya Moore and Diana Taurasi a decade ago to Clark and Angel Reese as they lead the charge for Team USA.
In a video posted on X on Sunday, Lindberg shared his thoughts on the "new era" of women's basketball in the country and how it will give more hope for the growth of the sport.
"Anytime you get this changing of the guard, in real time for Team USA, that is reason for increased interest," Lindberg said. "Being representative of this new era, it's nice to see that for Team USA."
He also pointed out that the trio of Clark, Angel Reese, and Paige Bueckers will surely turn a lot of heads once the tournament starts on Friday.
