The Presidents Cup is set for next week outside of Chicago, but the first Tour event since the season-ending Tour Championship is up. The Cliffs at Walnut Grove will host the tournament. The layout is a par-71 measuring 7,249 yards.
Being a fall event, the purse is significantly smaller than most events from the regular season. The biggest name initially in the field, Justin Thomas, withdrew Sunday, too, but there are other notables set to take on the Biltmore.

That's up 1% compared to the 2025 season average when using Nielsen's Big Data + Panel methodology (2.6 million), and up 17% when compared to Nielsen's panel-only numbers (2.3 million). Big Data became Nielsen's standard measurement formula on Sept. 1, 2025, after last year's PGA Tour season concluded.
In 2024, the PGA Tour's season-long average for weekend coverage on linear networks was 1.9 million viewers using panel-only measurements, which was standard at the time; that figure is 2.3 million when retroactively applying Big Data.
This season, no PGA Tour player won more than three times (Scottie Scheffler, Wyndham Clark, Matt Fitzpatrick, Chris Gotterup). Less-than-truckload carrier FedEx Freight announced Wednesday after the market closed that it has terminated Mike Lyons, its chief specialized services and commercial officer. Lyons was appointed to the role in June 2025, one year ahead of the company's spinoff from FedEx Corp.
"Following an internal investigation, the Company determined Mr. Lyons violated its Code of Conduct and no longer met the standards of employment at FedEx Freight," a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission stated. "Mr. Lyons's conduct was not related to and did not impact the Company's financial reporting or performance, internal controls, strategy, or customer relationships."
The company said duties performed by Lyons will be reassigned to other executives while it conducts a search for a replacement.
Lyons had been with the company for 19 years, according to his LinkedIn page. He led commercial strategy and customer experience as well as FedEx Custom Critical.

The two-time Masters winner was in form, carding a 7-under score of 63 and skyrocketing up the leaderboard on Saturday, Aug. 29. He started the day near the bottom in 23rd and found himself tied for third after 18 holes at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta in the third and final event of the FedEx Cup.
Like his performance in the previous rounds, McIlroy started off with a bogey, this time on the second hole. Then, he rebounded with four birdies on the front nine and five in the last nine holes for a total of nine birdies. He had three straight birdies in holes No. 15, 16 and 17 to secure his overall score of -10.
Since he had an earlier tee time, McIlroy will now sit and wait to see how his score holds up. Ryan Gerard and Viktor Hovland were the top of the leaderboard after Friday's second round with a score of 10-under. At the time of publication, McIlroy sits tied in fourth place. Gerard has surged slightly ahead with two early birdies to bring his score to -12 and take the lead on his own.

ATLANTA – Ryan Gerard has dialed in his distance control with his short irons this week at the Tour Championship and the proof is in the pudding. He shot his second straight 5-under 65 at East Lake Golf Club on Friday to share the 36-hole lead at the FedEx Cup finale with Viktor Hovland.
But his short irons aren't all that Gerard has figured out. The 27-year-old North Carolina Tarheel already reeled in his "white whale," making it to the field of 30 for the first time in his Tour career, and now he's seeking a captain's pick to play for Brandt Snedeker on Team USA at the Presidents Cup.
"It's hard not to think about it a little bit. I think very aware that a good week this week goes a long way to help my chances," he said. "Just going to go out there and play good golf, and Sneds is going to decide whatever he thinks is best for the team, and I hope that I can contribute."
In a previous conversation, he was even more candid: "I want to play in that tournament. I want to be part of the team. I want to play for my country. I want people to want me to be there."
And he very well may get the chance, as his expectations begin to catch up with his abilities. When he first was chasing a Tour card, those expectations, he admits, didn't always match with reality. "It took me a little while to figure out I didn't have it figured out and then it took me even longer to try and figure it out from there," he said. "I'd like to think I'm getting close to getting a little more consistent but I'm still learning."

ATLANTA (AP) — The PGA Tour is reshaping its postseason for 2028 by ending the year with a Tour Championship played over two weeks at different golf courses involving match play.
PGA Tour CEO Brian Rolapp announced the changes Tuesday before the Tour Championship, which currently is 72 holes of stroke play for the top 30 players. Whoever wins the tournament is declared the FedEx Cup champion and earns $10 million in official money from the $40 million purse.
Starting in 2028, the BMW Championship — the only postseason event that rotates is being held that year at Olympia Fields near Chicago — will be for the leading 90 players on the points list. Points from the season continue, and the leader will be the season champion and bonus money distributed accordingly.
The top 32 after the BMW Championship will be broken into eight groups of four-player pools. The leading two players from each pool advance to the final event, which will be match play over four days. Even players eliminated early will play through Sunday to determine final positions.

McIlroy was spotted on the range at Bellerive hitting **** with Flat Cat putter grips attached at 45-degree angles to both clubs. He explained to Golf Channel's Kira Dixon on Thursday that his right arm was staying too straight in the backswing and was getting too far across the line at the top, not supporting the club like it should.
"I was trying to save it a lot," said McIlroy, who is coming off his worst finish in a no-cut tournament, a 66th at the FedEx St. Jude Championship, where he ranked ahead of just three of the 68 other competitors in strokes gained off the tee and 35th in strokes gained approach.

ST. LOUIS — Gary Woodland doesn't need any reminders about the challenges he has encountered over the last three years, the surgery he underwent in 2023 to remove a lesion from his brain and his subsequent battle with post-traumatic stress disorder that forces him to keep constant anxiety in check while competing at the highest level of professional golf.
But there he was last week at the FedEx St. Jude Championship in Memphis meeting with an 11-year-old boy from New Zealand after the youngster followed the former U.S. Open champion around TPC Southwind. The boy has an inoperable brain tumor.
Woodland shared this anecdote on Thursday after the first round of the BMW Championship. And just seeing the look in his eyes relaying that moment in Memphis said so much about how he ***** ses what his career has come to mean to others and not just himself.
"I think I got a lot of perspective over the last couple years. I know I'm fighting for a lot more than playing golf," he said. "I'm hopefully having a positive impact on a lot of people's lives just showing up and fighting. Knowing that I'm struggling every day, and hopefully … I'm having a bigger impact than just showing up and showing that I can still compete and play out here and live my dreams. That's the big deal is I'm struggling and I'm still living my dreams. I hope people see that and try to do the same thing."
Woodland's dream took a fairytale turn in late March when he won the Texas Children's Houston Open less than a month after revealing that he suffers from PTSD. The week started abnormally for Thomas, who copped to practicing harder than usual on Monday after coming off a T-47 finish at TPC Southwind last week and entering Bellerive No. 44 in FedExCup scoring.
Only problem for JT? The extra work backfired — at least in the short term.
"Just couldn't get anything going and then — more than anything — I left there in a way worse place mentally than I feel like I should have or would have liked or hoped," said Thomas of his time in Memphis.
"It was a day that I likely would take off, but I just wanted to come out and feel like I kind of had some positivity or something to build on," he added about the work put in earlier this week. "It took a lot longer than I planned or wanted it to. Really it was, honestly, a pretty terrible day, to be perfectly honest."
