The Houston Texans still could be adding in a name or two ahead of their first preseason game.
According to the latest NFL transaction report, the Texans tried out both running backs Alexander Mattison and Hassan Haskins on Thursday. Neither player was signed to a contract, but the Texans could re-explore a deal later on this week.
The 28-year-old former Boise State running back has rushed for 2,370 yards during his five seasons in Minnesota and Las Vegas. During his rookie season, Mattison rushed for a career-high 700 yards that season, but he did not score a rushing touchdown and eventually lost the secondary role to Ty Chandler.
Haskins has only rushed for 229 yards and two touchdowns during his time with the Los Angeles Chargers.
Right now, the Texans have little room for a running back with the additions of David Montgomery and Noah Whittington, but it doesn't hurt to at least look.

BALTIMORE (AP) — The Baltimore Orioles acquired catcher Jake Rogers from the Detroit Tigers on Thursday for minor league right-hander Zane Barnhart.
The Tigers designated Rogers for ******* ignment earlier in the week, and it wasn't a huge surprise Baltimore was interested. The Orioles' top two catchers — Adley Rutschman and Samuel Basallo — are on the injured list. They used Sam Huff and Chadwick Tromp as replacements, getting almost no offense from either, before designating Huff for ******* ignment and bringing up Yohel Pozo from Double-A.
Rogers is batting .161 with three home runs and nine RBIs this season. His career average is .197.
Since July 19, Huff, Tromp and Pozo have gone 2 for 35 at the plate for the Orioles.
Barnhart has gone 2-3 with a 4.05 ERA in 31 relief appearances this year for Double-A Chesapeake.

Shane Steichen was very pleased with what he saw from Daniel Jones during the Indianapolis Colts' first practice on Wednesday.
"I thought he looked really good," Steichen said after Day 1.
On Day 2 of training camp, Jones continued to build upon that initial performance.
Kevin Bowen of 107.5 The Fan wrote that Jones was "very sharp" to begin Thursday's practice, starting the day 5-for-5. He was perfect during the 7-on-7 period as well.
Jake Arthur of Roundtable Sports noted that after Charvarius Ward and Sauce Gardner generated some pass breakups on Wednesday, Jones didn't shy away from either defender on Day 2, and completed "successful 10-plus-yard dig routes."

More than half of MAGA voters say they would support a Republican candidate accused of ******* ual ******* ault, according to a new poll.
In a recent Politico poll, 66 percent of MAGA voters who cast their ballot for President Trump in his last contest for the White House said they would back a GOP candidate even if "a former partner has accused the Republican candidate of ******* ual ******* ault" rather than support the Democratic candidate in a hypothetical congressional race.
Twenty-five percent of the MAGA voters said they would not cast their ballot for either candidate in the same hypothetical race, while 9 percent of the same group said they would cast their ballot for the Democrat.
In a larger group of Republican-leaning respondents, 42 percent said they would cast their ballot for the GOP candidate accused of ******* ual ******* ault, while 11 percent went for the Democrat and 47 percent went for neither.

The UTEP men's basketball team's Mexican travels picked up another destination, as the Miners are headed to the Cancun Challenge.
The Cancun Challenge, which is Nov. 24-25, is a four-team Thanksgiving tournament where they will play the College of Charleston and either Kennesaw State or Eastern Michigan.
Two weeks later, they conclude the multi-national event at Don Haskins Center when they host North Dakota (not to be confused with new Mountain West member North Dakota State) on Dec. 5. That tip-off time has not been set but likely will be 7 p.m.
The Nov. 24 game against Charleston will tip at 6:30 p.m. MT, while the Nov. 25 game against the Kennesaw/Eastern Michigan winner is TBA.
"The opportunity to play in the Cancun Challenge is a great honor for UTEP basketball and we look forward to being tested against three quality opponents," UTEP coach Joe Golding said. "Many great teams have played in this MTE (multi-team event) in the past, and we're excited to add UTEP's name to the list. Quarterback Rocco Becht is intent on setting things right in 2026. Becht's transfer to Penn State after a rough 2025 season, along with several of his teammates, gives him a unique opportunity to start anew. Along with pass catchers Chase Sowell, Brett Eskildsen, and Benjamin Brahmer, Becht is looking to elevate the production of the offense. However, during Big Ten media day, Becht highlighted the role that a returner could play in the offense.
"That guy is really special," Becht said of sophomore wideout Koby Howard. "He did a lot of good things in spring ball and he's probably going to do a lot of great things in fall camp [and] in the season for us. So, hopefully I can get him over 1,000 yards receiving, but something I'm looking forward to is just playing with him." While that is a lofty goal to set for a receiver you have never worked with, it is one that should intrigue Penn State fans.
Howard is the youngest member of Penn State's new-look receiving corps and is also the only player who got meaningful snaps at the position. Still, being a true freshman meant that he didn't receive many targets either. He only caught seven passes for 133 yards. This year, with Becht now at the helm, Howard will almost certainly see more snaps.
Whether or not he breaks 1,000 yards remains to be seen. After all, Penn State receivers have not covered themselves in glory in that regard over the past several years. Still, both Becht and Howard have apparently built a nice rapport with each other during fall camp, with Howard serving as a potential touchstone to Becht during his transition to life in Happy Valley. That connection may not result in a breakout season for Howard, but it could definitely be better than last season for Howard as well.

With neither team scoring through nine innings on Thursday afternoon, the White Sox lineup had a little more juice in extra innings to outlast the Yankees in a 2-1 walk-off win. The decisive plate appearance was a bases-loaded free pass from Tristan Peters against a clearly gassed Fernando Cruz. In a game in which neither team hit well, it was fitting that the winning run would score without a bat being swung.
Wasted opportunities in the first are not something a team normally dwells on for too long, but in this matchup, both clubs had reasons to lament not opening the scoring right from the get-go. Sean Burke saw the first two hitters reach safely with a catcher's interference and a walk, only for the Yankees offense to go 0-for-3 with a runner in scoring position. In Ryan Weathers' turn, the left-hander had a dose of luck as Colson Montgomery swung at a middle-middle 3-0 fastball but couldn't square it, rolling over to second with runners at second and third.
The lament stems from a lack of scoring on both sides that lasted until the ninth inning. ***** sing the big picture, one cannot praise Weathers enough for the job he did today. Despite needing 27 pitches to complete that tumultuous first, Weathers recalibrated to complete seven scoreless innings efficiently. Perhaps not as overpowering as Burke with four strikeouts to Burke's eventual 10, Weathers succeeded by relentlessly keeping the ball on the ground, recording over half of his 21 outs on the ground. The value of this lengthy outing for a tired bullpen in the middle of 13 games on 13 days is immense and could very well mean an extra win or two when all is said and done.
On the other side, having created his own mess in the first, Burke went on to dominate the Yankees with an outing even more impressive than his win at Yankee Stadium—at one point, the right-hander had a stretch of nine strikeouts in 11 at-bats.

Triathlete Mohamed Lahna has competed in three Paralympics, winning a bronze medal for Morocco in 2016 and a silver medal for the United States in 2024. He's no stranger to extreme endurance events, either, having swum the Strait of Gibraltar and completed the Marathon des Sables in the Sahara Desert.
But on July 29 in Los Angeles, Lahna crossed a finish line and into unprecedented territory when he completed a cross-country triathlon that he started on June 13 in New York.
The 44-year-old, who was born without a right femur, is believed to be the first athlete with a prosthesis to complete a triathlon across the United States.
Lahna traveled through 16 states and covered a total of 3,300 miles – equivalent to completing 206 Paralympic sprint triathlons or more than 23 Ironman triathlons. For 47 consecutive days, he rose at 4:30 a.m. and battled persistent pain, extreme weather and tough terrain.

Neither can his teammates, especially along the line.
"Honestly, they don't know what's coming when we get pads on," Johnson said Thursday. "But we say that in the best way possible. We're just eager to really play this front the right way, and you can only do that with pads on, so we're just very excited."

In the cold chain world, every box of frozen food that lands on a doorstep carries a cost decision made days earlier. One example: five pounds of dry ice, or 15? Undershoot and the product arrives thawed. Overshoot and the brand pays to move weight it never needed.
That calculation, repeated across millions of orders, is the business Grip built. The Miami-based cold chain fulfillment company is now handing its national operation to a 40-year veteran of frozen and refrigerated distribution.
Grip said Tuesday that John Hummel will join as president of Grip Fulfillment, leading the company's national fulfillment operations. For the e-commerce brands that rely on Grip to move pet food, prepared meals and grocery orders, the hire brings proven experience. It's a high-stakes industry: a shipping decision that misses by either too few pounds of refrigerant or a single day in transit eats margin or may even destroy the product.
Hummel served as president of Burris Logistics' Custom Distribution division, where he oversaw five frozen and refrigerated distribution centers and eight direct-to-consumer fulfillment facilities. Earlier he was president of United Natural Foods Inc.'s Central/Southeast Region, running eight distribution centers with more than $6 billion in annual sales. Before that he led operations for 31 distribution centers at Reinhart Foodservice as the company grew from $2 billion to $7 billion.
"I've known Juan since his ButcherBox days, and I've followed Grip's journey ever since," Hummel said. "Joining the team to lead its fulfillment operation is an incredible opportunity."

Mainz 05 and German national team midfielder Nadiem Amiri has declined to guarantee that he will remain with the club beyond the summer transfer window, insisting that he does not wish to make a promise he may later be unable to keep. The 29-year-old addressed his future during Mainz's training camp in Hopfgarten, Austria, amid continued speculation surrounding a potential move to RB Leipzig.
Asked whether he would play for Mainz during the 2026/27 campaign, Amiri directly dismissed the links in a rather glib and formulaic fashion. As quoted by Kicker, however, Amiri effectively admitted that he would be moving on once the right opportunity arises.
"Right now, Mainz 05 is the only thing on my mind and everything else is unimportant," Amiri said. "Things can always change. That's why I didn't commit to Mainz at the end of last season either. I don't want to disappoint the fans. I'm not the type to say, 'I'm staying here' and then be gone three weeks later."
Recent reports suggested that Amiri remained keen on joining RB Leipzig and had reached a basic agreement with the Saxon club. Kicker now reports that Leipzig have not submitted an offer, while Amiri himself sought to play down the speculation entirely.
"They're not even an issue," the former Leverkusen midfielder said. "Someone had an idea, but neither Mainz, Leipzig, nor I have said anything about it. Why should we even address it now?"

Former Olympique Lyonnais and Montpellier HSC midfielder Jordan Ferri (34) is open to returning to France this summer, according to a report from Foot Mercato.
Ferri left Ligue 1 a year ago to join Sampdoria, looking to experience Italian football in Serie B. However, his first season in Genoa did not unfold as hoped, with the Frenchman making only six appearances across all competitions.
Despite that limited playing time, Ferri remains determined to relaunch his career ahead of the new campaign. The midfielder would reportedly be receptive to an interesting project in either Ligue 1 or Ligue 2.
The Cavaillon-born player remains under contract with Sampdoria until 2027, meaning any prospective French club would need to reach an agreement with the Italian side.

Two YouTube golf stars will tee off Thursday at the Rocket Classic in Detroit after receiving sponsor exemptions into the PGA TOUR event.
Former GoodGood member Brad Dalke and The Lads member Ryan Ruffles both earned sponsor exemptions as tournament director Mark Hollis looks to attract a younger audience.
"We're always looking for ways to connect with new audiences in Detroit and continue building one of the most fan-friendly events on the PGA TOUR," Hollis said in an article published by The Golf Wire. "Brad has made a tremendous impact both on the course and through the way he connects with fans across different platforms."
This is not the first PGA TOUR-related event for either player. Dalke was a national NCAA champion and has competed in both the U.S. Open and the Masters. Ruffles has played in 21 PGA TOUR events, making 11 cuts. Most recently, he competed in the ONEflight Myrtle Beach Classic, where he made the cut and finished tied for 45th.

Nevertheless, The Athletic recently released a piece theorizing the valuation of all 138 FBS teams in the nation, and Florida State ranked as the 20th most valuable program in the country with an $819 million price tag.
Last year, FSU was valued at $867 million, a $48 million decline year-over-year. This is almost certainly having to do with the back-to-back losing seasons and with the ACC conference television deal that FSU and the rest of the ACC have been concerned about for many years now.
At No. 1 is the Texas Longhorns with a $2.46 billion valuation. The top ACC team is Miami, at $950 million (up from $604 million last year!) The Florida Gators were valued at $1.16 billion.

The 2026 Carolina Panthers may just be snakebitten. Any lingering question about that was answered emphatically on Wednesday morning, when the team suffered their third injury in just their fifth day of training camp.
Last week, it was second-year outside linebacker Nic Scourton who went down with a season-ending ACL tear, followed by tight end Mitchell Evans getting carted off with an ankle sprain on Tuesday. And yesterday, it was rookie wide receiver Chris Brazzell II, who was wheeled away with a moderate LCL tear.
Scourton is the biggest loss in the bunch—for now, at least—and his absence represents a devastating blow to a defense that could have taken a big step forward this season. With their rising star out, Carolina's pass rush has been ranked 31st in the NFL by CBS Sports.

If not for the injury Nic Scourton sustained on the first day of training camp, the Panthers would rank a healthy number of spots higher. Instead, his season is over before it even begins due to a torn ACL. Neither Phillips nor Jones is exactly reliable in terms of staying on the field, either, so the bottom has the threat of really falling out from underneath this group. Phillips is a plus starter when healthy, though, like he was all of last year.

Barclays Women's Super League fixtures for the 2026-27 season have finally been released.
The schedule is always published later than many supporters would like because a number of clubs share stadiums with men's teams. The league therefore has to wait until the fixture lists for the top five tiers of the men's game have been finalised before confirming dates.
It should be a slightly less congested campaign for ***** nal than last season. The club are not involved in the FIFA Women's Champions Cup, avoiding a trip to Miami, while there is no Subway Players' Cup either, as clubs competing in the UEFA Women's Champions League are exempt on player welfare grounds.
The previous format, which awarded Champions League clubs a bye to the quarter-finals, provided a significant advantage. The fact that only ***** nal, Chelsea and Manchester City have ever won the competition suggests that format may not have helped competitive balance. With none of those three clubs involved this season, a new name will be added to the trophy.

Two new films featuring Sir Geoff Hurst and fans have been released to mark the 60th anniversary of England's World Cup victory in 1966.
Hurst's famous hat-trick in the 4-2 win against West Germany took place six decades ago on July 30 at Wembley Stadium.
Wembley has brought together the voices of people who were there, with Hurst, the only surviving member of the team, saying: "Coming up the tunnel that day, only a section of the crowd could see us, then 96,000 – that memory will always stay with me.

Barcelona have gone to the market to search for a new central midfielder after Frenkie de Jong was ruled out long-term with an MCL tear sustained during the World Cup, according to transfer expert Matteo Moretto. The Dutch international will miss a significant spell, leaving Hansi Flick short in the middle of the park as the new LaLiga season approaches.
The injury alone would be enough to trigger a reassessment of Barcelona's midfield resources, but de Jong's relationship with Flick has also grown strained following several incidents in recent months. Former F1 designer and Jordan technical director Gary Anderson has urged Lewis Hamilton to own up to his recent mistakes instead of pointing the finger at others.
Over the past few race weekends, the seven-time world champion has picked up several penalties from the stewards, including two in Hungary that partly compromised his final result.
The first came in qualifying, when he was handed a three-place grid penalty for impeding Oscar Piastri. Having originally qualified second, it cost him the chance to challenge Lando Norris off the line at the start. The second came during the race, when a five-second penalty for speeding in the pit lane dropped him behind his teammate in the final classification.
In his latest column for The Telegraph, Anderson questioned Hamilton's recent performances, admitting he found it surprising that a driver of his experience had been making so many mistakes. He suggested the errors could either be the result of an unfortunate run of form or point to a more significant underlying issue.
"I have to say that I am surprised that, with all his experience, Hamilton is making these mistakes. It is difficult to say why exactly he is making them. Sometimes it is just a run of bad luck and the driver wonders why they are happening. Other times there is something deeper going on."

July 28 (Reuters) - Royal Caribbean raised its annual profit forecast on Tuesday after beating quarterly estimates, sending its shares up 5%, ‌even as it factored in a modest hit to bookings due ‌to the travel disruptions caused by the Middle East conflict.
Geopolitical uncertainty linked to the U.S.-Iran conflict has made some travelers wary of booking cruises, hurting demand for certain itineraries and adding to fuel-cost pressures for operators.
Royal Caribbean said bookings for some sailings, including Mediterranean itineraries, have been modestly hit, primarily in the third quarter.
"When ‌you include a cruise plus ⁠the airfare (to get to the ports), it's a little bit more costly (for American consumers)," CEO Jason Liberty said, adding travelers ⁠are either putting off their trips to next year or opting for the Caribbean instead of Europe.
