Florida State edge Jalen Anderson started his collegiate career at Pearl River Community College in Louisiana. He had two productive seasons there before coming to FSU.
Anderson registered 39 tackles, nine tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks, one interception, two forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, and a defensive touchdown as a freshman. He earned First-Team All-MACCC honors, and he also won the South Division Defensive Player of the Year award.
Anderson already had plans to play at a higher level. In fact, he reached out to the Seminoles during his recruiting process. What he told them was pretty bold, but Anderson made it happen.
"I texted Coach Ris, Coach Devin Rispress, on Twitter. I said by the end of the season, you're going to offer me," Anderson said via Warchant. "I'm going to be the No. 1 Edge, and you're going to be begging to offer me. I'm going to be the No. 1 Edge, and y'all are going to be begging to have me in y'alls room."
Once he was available, the 6-foot-3, 240-pounder was listed as the No. 1 edge in 247Sports JUCO rankings and the No. 4 prospect overall. Florida State made him a scholarship offer Nov. 6 of last year, which was three weeks before their season ended. On Nov. 14, Anderson visited FSU, and three days later he committed. He signed on Dec. 3, and by Jan. 7 he was enrolled.

Nats first round pick Chris Hacopian will be making his minor league debut tomorrow. Interestingly, it will not be in Fredericksburg. Instead, the local kid will be skipping over Low-A and will join the Wilmington Blue Rocks. The old regime would always send draft picks to Low-A first, even if it were only for a few games, but that has changed.
After being drafted 11th overall last month, it will be exciting to see Hacopian get started. That Wilmington team was already loaded, and now they are getting another top prospect. The likes of Eli Willits, Ronny Cruz and Miguel Sime Jr. are some of the players currently in Wilmington. Now, Paul Toboni's first draft pick will join them.

Following a self-described "OK" freshman year, Sanchez is embracing the challenging moments in practice, which have mainly included Smith standing directly across the line of scrimmage.
Sanchez joined the Buckeyes last season as a five-star recruit out of Houston and secured a spot in the rotation behind starter Jermaine Mathews Jr. by the season opener against Texas. However, with Mathews and Davison Igbinosun slotting in at cornerback for the majority of plays, Sanchez was limited to an average of just over 31 snaps across 13 games, recording 15 tackles.
Igbinosun's departure from Ohio State – he is now with the Buffalo Bills – opened a starting position that has essentially belonged to Sanchez since spring practice.

On Monday, Carolina Panthers head coach Dave Canales stated that his starters would not be suiting up for the Hall of Fame Game. Apparently, and perhaps surprisingly, inside linebacker Trevin Wallace is not included in that group.
Per Joe Person of The Athletic, Wallace is in uniform for tonight's preseason opener against the Arizona Cardinals.
Here's what Canales told reporters at the beginning of the week:
"There are some competition battles for starting positions, where guys will have an opportunity to play a little bit. Some of the guys we're expecting to be out there right off the bat, I think we won't play those guys in this game."
That would likely mean that Wallace, the projected starter alongside free-agent addition Devin Lloyd, does not have that spot locked down as of yet. And given the underwhelming results of Wallace's first two pro campaigns, perhaps Canales and the staff aren't wrong.

The conversation surrounding the Jacksonville Jaguars' linebacker room has largely centered around who will replace Devin Lloyd, who signed with the Carolina Panthers in free agency. Competition at the position has begun to unfold, and that has received the majority of the attention, but it's worth remembering that the Jaguars already have a strong, reliable linebacker on the roster who often goes overlooked.
Bradley Locker ranked the top 32 linebackers in the NFL for Pro Football Focus, and Foyesade Oluokun came in at No. 15. Locker specifically noted that he tends to be overlooked and underappreciated.
"Oluokun still isn't a household name, but his play warrants legitimate attention. Since 2023, he ranks 10th in overall PFF grade (78.0) among qualified linebackers, taking off ever since he arrived in Jacksonville. Although Oluokun has been strong in coverage — including placing fifth at the position in 2025 — he could stand to augment his run defense, which has never exceeded a 73.6 grade. Perhaps leading a Jaguars defense now without Lloyd could enable him to do just that."

Williams is entering his third season following a breakout sophomore campaign where he set a franchise single-season passing record, led an NFL record seven fourth quarter comebacks (including the postseason) while leading Chicago to an 11-6 record, NFC North ****** le and playoff win. That was all in one season with head coach Ben Johnson. Now, all eyes are on Williams this summer as he continues to develop under Johnson and make a huge leap in Year 3.
We're taking a look at the good, the bad and the noteworthy with Williams from the seventh practice of Bears training camp:
Following a rough padded practice on Tuesday, Williams bounced back during a light, non-padded session. Williams was incredibly sharp during 7-on-7 work, where he completed 9-of-10 passes and five touchdowns, per CHGO. Those scores went to tight end Colston Loveland (2), receiver Luther Burden III and running back Kyle Monangai. But the best touchdown was caught by receiver Kaden Davis who made the best catch of the day with a one-handed, laid out grab, per Chris Kwiecinski. CHGO added that "Williams and Co. repeatedly took advantage of linebacker Devin Bush in short coverage on wide receivers Rome Odunze and Burden."
In what was a light, non-padded workout, there weren't any significant mistakes made by Williams on Wednesday. If you want to nitpick, he had an incompletion during 7-on-7 that prevented him from going a perfect 10-of-10.

Phoenix Suns forward Dillon Brooks has signed a three-year, $73-million extension, The Arizona Republic confirmed August 5.
"Villain is here to stay," Brooks told The Republic. "Championship is all on my mind."
ESPN's Shams Charania first reported the news August 5, as the extension runs through the 2029-30 season.
Brooks averaged a career-high 20.2 points a game in his first year with the Suns, who acquired him from the Houston Rockets in the Kevin Durant trade.
The Suns finished 45-37 last season and returned to the postseason after missing the playoffs last season with Devin Booker, Kevin Durant and Bradley Beal, who they bought out.

After generating the NFL's third-fewest turnovers from 2020-24 (89), including the fewest in the league in 2024 (9), the Jags ranked second with 31 forced turnovers in 2025. The secondary adopted the moniker "Strapsonville" about halfway through the season. It was quite the debut for defensive coordinator Anthony Campanile and his staff.
"We're being coached to take the ball away," cornerback Jourdan Lewis said after Monday's training camp practice. "High pointing the ball, making sure that the receiver can't make a catch, make a play on the ball in the air. We're being coached to do that. Everything that you see, all the turnovers, everything that we're doing, being ball hungry, that's getting coached."
"And we have the talent to go out there and do it every single week, as you saw last year. When we came out here at OTAs last year, I knew, like, 'Wow, we got some guys that can go take the ball away.' Just like this year. OTAs and training camp, we just have to fine-tune some of our detailed things, but we have the talent to take the ball away."
While I don't disagree with anything Lewis said, it's hard to imagine Jacksonville forcing 30+ turnovers for a second straight season. Linebacker Devin Lloyd accounted for nearly a fifth of the 2025 production with 5 interceptions and 1 fumble recovery; he's now a Carolina Panther. The defense will gain playmaking ability via Travis Hunter, sure, but a 15.6% clip of turnovers per drive will still be difficult to carry over. Such rates tend to fluctuate from year to year.

The streamer revealed its full broadcast team for the 49ers-Rams matchup at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, with Elle Duncan hosting studio coverage alongside desk ***** ysts Michael Irvin, Nick Foles and Clay Matthews III, while Noah Eagle calls play-by-play with Luke Kuechly as his ***** yst and MJ Acosta reporting from the sideline. The game airs Thursday, Sept. 10 at 8:35 p.m. ET, kicking off Netflix's expanded five-game NFL slate.
Netflix expanded its NFL footprint from two games to five for the upcoming season, and Duncan, the face of the streamer's fledgling sports division, told Sports Media Watch that Netflix intends to run a consistent crew across that entire slate.
"We want every single one of our events to, yes, have a through-line and some consistency, and you'll get that with the desk and the talent," Duncan said.

With Devin a fixture on NBC's Football Night in America since 2023, Jason McCourty will add Monday Night Countdown to his ESPN workload. Jason's move to the Monday pregame show was announced on Monday morning.
As we understand it, it wasn't part of the recent deal that prompted Jason to go all-in with Bristol and to abandon calling Sunday games for CBS.
With ESPN using a recent round of layoffs as a pretext for firing Ryan Clark (in the least graceful way possible), a seat became open on the Monday Night Countdown desk. Initially, and in all candor, we thought it would be another opportunity to advance the More McAfee plan — if only to further justify a looming $60 million per year payday.
McCourty moving into Clark's chair doesn't mean there won't be a McAfee presence on Monday nights. Whatever his role will be, it likely won't be announced until the ink is dry on the new contract.

White was originally drafted by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers with the fifth overall pick out of LSU in the 2019 NFL Draft.
White racked up a game-high 12 tackles in Tampa Bay's 31-9 Super Bowl LV victory over the Kansas City Chiefs to cap the 2020 NFL season. The former Buc put one of the final exclamation marks on the victory as he intercepted Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes. White would add a pair of tackles for loss in the ***** le-clincher, too.
White was a second-team All-Pro during that 2020 championship season as he totaled 140 tackles, nine sacks, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery. He was also a Pro Bowler in 2021.

The Detroit Lions' 2026 NFL Draft class has already been hit with two significant injuries. Back in the spring, fifth-round pick Kendrick Law suffered a season-ending ACL injury. And on Friday, fourth-round pick Jimmy Rolder left a training camp practice early with a leg injury. According to a report from Justin Rogers, Rolder is expected to be out "for a while." As a response, the Lions opted to sign veteran Devin White to help Detroit's linebacker room.
It's a tough break for Rolder, as he had a promising starting to training camp. While he wasn't likely to be a prominent feature on Detroit's defense in his rookie season, the former Michigan linebacker was in line for a significant role on special teams.
Back in the spring, Lions coaches were optimistic about how Rolder was progressing in the early stages of his NFL career.
"Still has a lot of room for growth, but I'm pretty good with where he is now," Lions linebacker coach Shaun Dion Hamilton said in June. "I just continue to challenge him day in and day out, where it's always a learning curve for rookies coming from college football to the pros, but I'm excited to work with him and it's gonna be a lot of meat on the bone and a lot of things that he can grow (from) coming into training camp."
Unfortunately, it appears Rolder's development will have to be on hold.

The Lions agreed to a one-year contract with former Pro Bowl linebacker Devin White on Saturday, Aug. 1.

One day after rookie linebacker Jimmy Rolder left training camp with a leg injury, the Detroit Lions have signed his potential replacement.

The Detroit Lions are signing former top-five pick Devin White, as first reported by NFL insider Jordan Schultz.
White was selected fifth overall in the 2019 NFL Draft by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. His career got off to a hot start, making second-team All Pro and winning a Super Bowl by his second season. But after four productive season with Tampa, things dried up relatively quickly. He signed with the Eagles in 2024, but never ended up playing a snap for them. Then he jumped to Houston for a half season and played a full 17 games for the Las Vegas Raiders last year. In 2025, he actually finished third in the NFL in tackles with 174—just behind Detroit's Jack Campbell. However, he has not traditionally graded out well by PFF grade. He's never finished a season with a grade above 57.0, struggling both in the coverage and run defense departments.
This is the second linebacker the Lions have added in the last week, signing Troy Reeder just at the start of training camp. During Friday's practice, rookie linebacker Jimmy Rolder suffered a leg injury and did not return. At this time we don't know the severity of that injury.
White will have a chance to compete for a primary reserve role with the starting jobs likely already taken by Jack Campbell, Derrick Barnes, and Malcolm Rodriguez. But with his experience and strong athletic profile, there's certainly a chance he can make a run at a situational role on defense.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — The Carolina Panthers scrimmaged in front of approximately 40,000 fans at Bank of America Stadium on Friday night in their first appearance on their home turf since losing in the opening round of last season's playoffs.
Injuries continue to be the story of the team's training camp with three other players kept out of the action.
Tight end Tommy Tremble, defensive tackle Derrick Brown and linebacker Devin Lloyd all sat out.
Coach Dave Canales said after the scrimmage that Tremble had "general soreness" in his right knee on which he wore a sleeve on Friday night, and Brown and Lloyd were taking their regularly scheduled "veteran days."
With starting offensive tackle Taylor Moton (blood clot) not participating in training camp and out of action until the regular season, linebacker Nic Scourton and wide receiver Chris Brazzell suffering season-ending knee injuries in the first week of training camp and tight end Mitchell Evans (ankle) carted off the practice field, injuries are a concern.

Any Carolina Panthers fan could tell you that you have to be wary of training camp superstars. (Do any of David Gettis, Stephen Hill, Devin Funchess or Terrace Marshall Jr. ring a bell?)
But there are some who do go on to make great careers for themselves. Perhaps the best the Panthers have ever had in this category is former left guard Andrew Norwell, who has been named the franchise's greatest preseason/training camp riser in its history by ESPN.

The Chicago Bears beat reporters were all pretty much in agreement in their praise for the offense on day two of training camp practice.
"Good day overall for the offense," shared Bear Reports' Zack Pearson, who had a nice recap thread about the day.
"Massive day for Luther Burden, he was the most targeted receiver on the field," wrote FOX32's Devan Kaney. "Caleb Williams looked great, completing the majority of his passes."
CHGO's Adam Hoge shared that it was "One of Caleb Williams' better practices. Well over 70% today. Only 4 incompletions all day in 7-on-7/team, and two were tipped at the line."
The Chicago Tribune's Brad Biggs highlighted a "Nifty diving catch by Colston Loveland with LB Devin Bush in tight coverage for 20 yds in 11/11. Dart of a throw by CW."
