Jim Cramer raised concerns about The TJX Companies, Inc. (NYSE:TJX) during the September 10 episode of Mad Money, as he said:
We had our CNBC Investing Club meeting today… I review each of the Charitable Trust positions on the call. This time, it was pretty clinical until I got to TJX, the off-price retailer. Candidly, I lost it on TJX. I've owned the stock for the Trust for as long as I can remember, and I've never felt so worried about this franchise. They have a bunch of divisions, but the biggest one, Marmaxx, consisting of TJ Maxx and Marshalls, really blew it. Management told us that they had figured out what had gone wrong and they've already fixed it, but because of competitive reasons or whatever, they wouldn't tell us what went wrong and they wouldn't tell us how they fixed it. I found that infuriating…
I came close to saying, forget it, Jim, it's retail. Sometimes retail is seductive. I love my local TJ Maxx, and I think Home Goods is a fun place to shop. The company's almost always about the best in the industry, crushing Burlington and Ross Stores. But this time, shockingly, Ross Stores upside surprised. It crushed TJX, much better than expected... So why bother sticking your neck out for something in this group? Simple. Because some of the greatest stories of all time have come from retail. Costco's been an incredible long-term performer. Walmart's been terrific. And TJX, it's been a wonder, one of the best stocks ever.
Could they really suddenly have lost it? Did they go all LULU? I don't think so. What happens, though, is you have to be conscious that TJX is right now being buffeted by its group, which is trading down because of the decline in discretionary income from the tax that is higher gasoline. We can't tell how much of its underperformance comes from that alone or maybe the mistakes that management made and says they've corrected. In other words, these retail stocks are very hard to own, even as they seem so easy to grasp.

The fate of Ed Sheeran's Loop Tour is suddenly uncertain after all of the British singer's remaining opening acts quit in solidarity with the rapper Macklemore, who was dropped from the remaining North American dates over pro-Palestinian comments.
Hours after Sheeran released a statement saying it was the promoter's decision to remove Macklemore from the tour and not his, the rest of his supporting acts — Irish singer Aaron Rowe, Danish pop band Lukas Graham and songwriter Finneas — as well as Sheeran's house band, Beoga, announced that they were pulling out in protest.
"Artists must not be silenced when they speak up for the oppressed," Finneas, the brother of Billie Eilish, wrote in a note posted to Instagram. "I have decided to withdraw from my upcoming tour dates with Ed Sheeran. I stand with Palestine and its people."
The Irish artists cited their country's history of oppression in their decisions to drop out.
"I don't take the decision lightly. Ed has been a friend to me and has changed my life, I could never thank him enough for this," Rowe wrote in his own Instagram post. "But as Irish people we know all too well about genocide, forced famine and violent occupation. I cannot stand by and allow billionaires to use their position of power to silence the rightful voices of those who speak up against Israeli genocide and who highlight the savage murder of children."

The ballooning US debt pile is akin to a ticking time bomb for the country, in part because it weakens national security, billionaire Carlyle Group (CG) co-founder David Rubenstein warned.
"We have, as everybody now knows, $40 trillion of debt. Now, historically, if you go back over the last, let's say, 300 or 400 years, whenever a country paid more interest on its debt than it did for its national security, that's a sign of weakness in the country. Right now, we've crossed that threshold," Rubenstein said in a new episode of the Power Players with Brian Sozzi podcast (see video above or listen below).
"We're now paying more in interest every year than we are paying on our national defense, and we're paying a trillion dollars in interest, a little bit more than that now, but we pay about a trillion dollars in national defense," he added. "And as that continues, the interest goes up, and the money available for defense goes down. That tends to weaken your national security."
The numbers surrounding the debt situation are ever more staggering.

Texas Democratic gubernatorial candidate Gina Hinojosa spent the summer keeping Republican Gov. Greg Abbott within arm's reach — never letting him lead by more than a few points.
However, two new polls disagree on whether that's still true, and the answer may decide how competitive the race really is.
A Sept. 15 poll from Mason-Dixon Polling & Research Inc. showed that Republican Gov. Greg Abbott is leading his Democratic challenger, Gina Hinojosa, by 7 points, 48% to 41%, with 8% of voters undecided.
The Mason-Dixon had a 4-point margin of error, with Libertarian Pat Dixon at 1% and Independent Jenn Mack Raphoon at 2%. It surveyed 625 registered Texas voters Sept. 8-10 who said they are likely to vote in the November 2026 election.
The poll follows a Sept. 13 poll from SoCal Strategies that showed Abbott still in a strong position in his bid for a fourth term, leading Hinojosa 52% to 44%.

All eyes will be on the September Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) meeting. Unless there is extraordinary news, like collapsing crude oil prices, I am fully expecting a key Fed interest rate hike.
The Fed never fights market rates. Since market rates have risen globally due to higher energy prices, and after the ECB hike, more central banks are expected to follow and raise key interest rates.
The big news is expected to be the FOMC statement that may signal whether or not the Fed is "one and done" or signal that more key interest rate hikes will be forthcoming. Under new Fed Chairman Warsh, the Fed may not provide good guidance, since Warsh wants Wall Street to take its cue from market rates.

The good news is that with a hike already baked into the cake, there shouldn't be a negative market reaction on September 16. In other words, don't fear the reaper because even if interest rates rise and market volatility increases, fundamentally superior stocks continue to outperform. Comedian and podcast host Bill Maher called out deep-blue California on Monday and said the state's voters would always support a Democrat, even if their policies were failing, as long as President Donald Trump was ******* ociated with the Republican Party.
During an interview on "Club Random" with David Foster, Maher argued that California would never vote for a Republican as long as Trump was involved in the party.
Maher noted Spencer Pratt, a Republican who finished third in Los Angeles' mayoral race and therefore did not advance to the general election, had the instinct that California had a "failed system," and Maher agreed.
"It just shows that, in this state, I guess everywhere, we're so bipartisan now, that we will accept failure, which we plainly have here in California, over voting for the party of Trump," Maher said. "Which, I understand, because he does a lot of things that are I mean, plus, Jesus, I mean, I get a lot of s--- from him for the things I criticize just off the top of my head, vulgar, corrupt, doesn't concede elections, you know, inept at things that sometimes were a good idea to begin with. Close the border, you know, get rid of nuclear weapons in Iran, but f---ed up the execution."

On September 14, Coda Octopus Group (NASDAQ:CODA) reported third-quarter fiscal 2026 results that quietly crossed a threshold the company had never reached in its public history: positive retained earnings, after years of operating at an accumulated deficit. Revenue rose 9.2% year over year to $7.7 million, and pretax income climbed 16% to $1.8 million, even as instability in the Middle East knocked down the marine technology unit that has long been the company's calling card. The reason the quarter held together anyway comes down to where the growth actually showed up.
Defense engineering revenue jumped 68.3% to $2.7 million during the quarter, and the momentum did not look like a one-time ****** p. Sustainment spares orders have already topped $2.4 million year to date, and one prime contractor customer's new multiyear repair and sustainment award has since fed additional subcontract work back to Coda Octopus. On the newer end of the business, the company's US defense engineering team is now supporting several prime contractors building rugged, deployable RF electronic warfare systems for unmanned platforms, helicopters, airborne pods, and ground vehicles.
The DAVID diving system added its own proof points. Coda Octopus has delivered 24 DAVID systems to the US Navy to date, including 16 untethered units earlier in the year, and the Navy's authorization for use ****** sment on that untethered system was completed during the year, clearing it for full operational deployment. Since the quarter closed, the Navy has placed about $1.4 million in additional orders covering tethered systems and DAVID Flex adoption, including four units bought specifically for diving school and academy training. A European navy that already bought in is also expected to firm up a procurement roadmap later this year, while the new Nano sonar is being tested by subsea robotics OEMs and research groups for next-generation autonomous platforms. All of that arrived alongside $31.7 million in cash, no debt, and a balance sheet management says can fund acquisitions.
None of that offsets what happened in marine technology, the segment that still generates the largest share of revenue. Marine tech sales fell 15.2% to $3.4 million as customer activity slowed across the Middle East and parts of Asia, and hardware revenue specifically dropped 17.8% to $2.3 million. Improved rental utilization, with rental revenue up 131.1%, cushioned the blow but did not reverse it, and management has tied the weakness directly to geopolitical conditions it cannot control.

Is there anything prettier than a consistently uptrending stock price chart? I'm drawn to these types of charts. I've always thought a consistent uptrend is an indication of strong buying power for a stock. However, while I can tell you if a chart looks like a consistent, methodical trend, it's hard to define it using data, which is necessary to create an indicator. That's why, until now, I've never put numbers behind my theory.
I won't go into the details, but using moving averages over various time frames, I've created a ranking system for stocks with the most consistent uptrends and downtrends over the past three months. Using this ranking system, Docusign (DOCU) is one of the top uptrending stocks. That's a pretty chart, if I do say so myself. When I see a chart like this, I think, why would it stop now?
In this week's article, I'll test my theory with actual numbers and see if DOCU and other stocks like it are good bets, like my instincts have always led me to believe.
For this study, I went back to 2024 and picked the 18th of each month, which corresponds to the end of this week. I used my trend ranking system to find the 30 stocks in the strongest uptrends and the 30 in the most consistent downtrends. Then, I tracked how each group performed over the next month of trading. The table below summarizes the results.
My instincts look correct based on the average returns of the stocks. The top uptrending stocks averaged a return of 2.15% over the next month, while the most consistently downtrending stocks averaged a return of 1.57%. The other stocks averaged 1.84%, falling between the two groups.

Canadian heavyweight icon George Chuvalo, potentially the toughest man to ever live, passed this weekend on his 89th birthday after a lengthy battle with dementia.
Chuvalo fought 93 times in 22 years as a professional, sharing the ring with icons like Floyd Patterson, Joe Frazier, George Foreman, and Muhammad Ali without ever once hitting the canvas. A multiple-time national champion, he twice challenged for world **** les, falling short against Ernie Terrell in 1965 and the aforementioned Ali a year later. His career highlights include his 1965 Ring Magazine Fight of the Year against Patterson and a 1969 knockout of Jerry Quarry.
Deeply beloved in his home country, Chuvalo suffered unimaginable tragedy in his personal life, losing two children to heroin addiction while both a third and his wife committed suicide. Despite this, he remained by all accounts a delightful and gregarious figure, a prolific anti-drug advocate and namesake of a community center that supports LGBTQ and other youth in his hometown of Toronto.

Bakersfield High football coach Cody Stone calls it the "relief syndrome." It's the feeling one has by passing a tough test on the field. Stone, as he's stated each week after a Drillers' victory, doesn't believe in that kind of thinking.
So it's no surprise that BHS' 46-14 victory over Clovis West last Friday continued that approach. But scoring 46 points against a top five team in the CIF Central Section makes it harder to downplay.
"I was happy, not just with our kids, but our entire coaching staff," he said. "I was pleased with the way the kids executed the game plan. Our coaches held the kids to a high standard.
"Clovis West is a very historic program. They have a great coach, great talent, but our kids came out and got on them pretty quick. What I think our coaches liked most was that our kids came out and never let up."
He and his staff also enjoyed seeing players support each other. More than once on a long touchdown run, teammates escorted each other and celebrated in the end zone.

Known as the "E-Train," the Lone Star side steamrolled their way to a dominant series victory, winning five of six. Outside of a 11-1 thrashing on Thursday, the Bees never held a lead in the other five contests. The Express (38-31/69-75) collected their first road series win in Salt Lake since 2021, when they swept the Bees in a six-game set.
Despite a quality start from Bees starter Ryan Costeiu, Round Rock earned a 5-1 series opening victory on Tuesday. The visitors scored in four different frames, while Niko Kavadas helped Salt Lake avoid a shutout with a fifth-inning solo blast. Wednesday was more of the same, as the Express tallied a 6-1 victory. Mestemaker faked a handoff, then took off for a 75-yard run on the Cowboys' first play from scrimmage in a 39-31 upset win over Oregon last Saturday. Oklahoma State sports information confirmed Monday that it was the longest run by a quarterback in school history.
Mestemaker setting the record is a bit of a shock at a school that has boasted prolific runners such as Zac Robinson, Spencer Sanders and J.W. Walsh. It's also surprising because Mestemaker is not known as a runner. In the entire previous season at North Texas, he ran for 89 yards on 57 carries.

Merchandise margin in retail widened 140 basis points, with 100 of those points coming from less markdown activity, meaning more inventory is selling at full price. Debt fell by $93 million to $423.1 million compared with a year earlier, and total liquidity stood at roughly $198 million, funding room for projects like the Topo sourcing integration and the new Edit at DSW store-within-a-store pilot without leaning further on the balance sheet.
The retail side of the business is still the drag. CEO Doug Howe said sandals, the company's largest seasonal category, "were pressured by early weather-related headwinds and never fully rebounded," and that alone accounted for roughly 200 basis points of the retail segment's 2% sales decline. Comparable sales fell 2.6% in retail and 2.4% companywide, and the segment battled a sequential traffic headwind even as average unit retail and average dollars per sale held firm. Strip out the brand portfolio's 18% growth, and the underlying store business is still shrinking.

Since his debut in 2018, Ronald Acuña Jr. has been one of baseball's most exciting players. His power-speed combo has made him one of the sport's best players. In 2019, Acuña fell just short of the elusive 40/40 club. In 156 games, he tallied 41 home runs and 37 stolen bases, which led the National League.
He was on an MVP trajectory in 2021. In 82 games that season, Acuña had a .990 OPS with 24 home runs and 17 stolen bases. Unfortunately, everything changed on July 10 when he tore his ACL attempting to make a leaping catch at the wall down in Miami. During his first three and a half seasons, Acuña was on the fast track to the Hall of Fame. His injury not only slowed that down, but it also raised questions about whether he'd ever be the same again.
The Braves eventually won the World Series, but Acuña was sidelined and could only celebrate from the dugout. Still, though, he received a World Series ring on Opening Day in 2022. He would return to action on April 28 against the Chicago Cubs. However, it was clear that Acuña wasn't the same player. In 119 games, he only hit 15 home runs, and his OPS dropped to .764—the worst mark of his career. It seemed he would never be the same again, but Acuña quieted the doubters with one of the greatest individual seasons in MLB history.

Wide receiver Hollywood Brown was active for Sunday's game, but the veteran never got on the field during the Eagles' 24-22 win over the Commanders.
DeVonta Smith and Dontayvion Wicks started for the Eagles with first-round pick Makai Lemon and Darius Cooper also seeing time on offense. At a Monday press conference, head coach Nick Sirianni was asked about how Brown fits into the team's plans.
"So, with yesterday, you know, we have our rotations that we're doing, you know, Hollywood could obviously help us," Sirianni said, via Brooks Kubena of TheAthletic.com. "We obviously want to get him into the football game because his speed is real. It just didn't work out that way yesterday. There are games like that. There are games where you get shut out on catches. Unfortunately, there are games, they get shut out on reps. But we know that Hollywood can help us win football games, and his speed is real, and, quite frankly, just from my end, we want to get him into the football game, right? And so, you know, we'll make a better effort to do that next time, 'cause I know the playmaking ability that he can bring with his speed. But was pleased with how the wideouts played as a whole. Of course, there were things that you want back. They made a lot of plays down the field — and with different things with their job description. But, you know, I do want to see him in that football game and getting reps and contributing to this football team."
The Eagles' offense looked like a work in progress for considerable portions of Sunday's game, which was their first with offensive coordinator Sean Mannion. The Los Angeles Rams are in a bit of turmoil following Myles Garrett's injury to start the season. It's never a good thing when an important player isn't available to do his thing, but that's even more so the case with Garrett, who the Rams obviously did a blockbuster trade to get.
Garrett was supposed to be the centerpiece of the Rams' defense, but he's out. Now, ESPN and NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport is sharing an update about the injury, and it also reveals some telling news about Garrett's health in general.
"The Los Angeles Rams knew that Miles Garrett had a knee injury, knew that he was working through it, knew that he wasn't in the kind of shape, honestly, that he really needs to be to go out and be the best player in football, which he essentially was last year," Rapoport said on Monday in a video shared on X. "They just sort of felt he could go out, manage it, handle it, and still play at a very high level."
He added that the team saw him on the field in Australia and saw he was struggling. So, "their decision was, and Miles Garrett's decision was, have surgery now, fix it, make sure that when he is next back on the field, this will no longer be an issue."
