The offensive line has become one of the more appreciated aspects of team-building after being forgotten about for years, it seemed. Teams now build up their offenses through the trenches before attempting to add the right quarterback and pieces to make plays happen.
The one spot specifically of the offensive line that gets built up is the interior positions. Some teams, like the Vikings, have made it a point to have reliable pieces in place to protect the interior aspects of the line.
We say this because PFF recently ranked the top guards in the NFL, and we wanted to know which Vikings guard made the cut. When it came down to it, they had Will Fries ranked barely in their top 32
They wrote about the ranking, saying, "Fries didn't quite live up to the five-year, $87 million contract he signed last offseason in his first year with Minnesota. His 61.8 PFF grade was much more in line with the level of play he showed in 2022 and 2023. Perhaps he can recapture the excellent form he displayed in 2024, but that performance came across fewer than 300 snaps. It's possible, but Fries will need to show meaningful improvement this season to justify his hefty contract."

The NFL officially enshrined its 2026 class in the Pro Football Hall of Fame on Saturday. It was a loaded class that is headlined by former New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees and Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald, who are both going in as first-ballot selections.

The Red Sox are 27-4 in their last 31 games. It's the most remarkable stretch of regular season baseball I've ever had the privilege to witness. So believe me when I say that I do not want to be the person talking about cyclosporiasis at the barbecue. But in light of the fact that that's kind of my job, I do have to say: if the good times are going to end, today's game was offered a template of how it's going to happen.
Jake Bennett has been a huge (and completely unexpected) part of this unfathomable stretch of baseball. But he's a relatively unheralded rookie who, just today, set a new professional career high in innings pitched. He was by no means horrible, but he didn't have his best stuff and couldn't make it through six innings, leaving the game as the Sox found themselves in a one-run deficit.
Justin Slaten, who replaced him, was actually one of the more well-rested arms in an otherwise depleted bullpen. But "well-rested" in this case just meant that he didn't pitch yesterday, having thrown 17 pitches the day before. He immediately walked a hitter and allowed a double, giving the A's a three-run lead. This, essentially, was the ballgame. The Red Sox offense, which has been magic for most of the past six weeks and was again in the first inning today, scoring two runs on the strength of three stolen bases, suddenly reverted t0 pre-streak form, stranding runners on second base in both the fourth and fifth innings and otherwise barely even threatening to wake up.
This run has been amazing and magical and will never be forgotten. Dave O'Brien absolutely nailed it when he thanked the surging Sox for saving the summer. But the bill is coming due and it's going to paid in the currency of arms. There's only one question that matters for the Red Sox for the rest of the regular season: can this pitching staff hang on? Today, it didn't.
Raymond Burgos: When the ***** was the last time a pitcher threw three or more innings in consecutive days? Burgos did it for the Sox this afternoon, and, thus, saved the rest of the bullpen to throw another day. He's not long for the big league roster, but let us not forget his contribution this afternoon.

Often the forgotten pending unrestricted free agent on the Colorado Avalanche, Artturi Lehkonen — like Cale Makar — has been eligible to sign a contract extension since July 1.
When general manager Joe Sakic was asked about Lehkonen's situation back in June, he said getting a deal done with the veteran forward was a priority for the Avalanche and something the team hoped to accomplish this summer.
Basically, it's no different than Makar's pending extension.
"We're going to talk to their agent in the summer. That focus is going to take place in the summer," Sakic said. "All the extensions — once we get to mid-July, that's when those talks start beginning. We're definitely going to be looking to hopefully come to an agreement with Artturi as well. He's such a big, important player for our team."
If that remains the plan, the Avalanche and Lehkonen's camp have now been in discussions for several weeks. But unlike Makar, there may not be much urgency to get a Lehkonen extension done immediately.

Former All-Star pitcher Tommy John, whose innovative elbow surgery from more than 50 years ago has helped thousands of pitchers prolong their careers, sent an emotional message to the New York Yankees on Old-Timers' Day on Saturday, thanking the organization and the fans while acknowledging his failing health.
John, 83, who has battled bladder cancer and other ailments in recent years, reached out and expressed his gratitude to late Dr. Frank Jobe, late Yankees owner George Steinbrenner and Yankees fans.
"I want to thank the Yankees organization & the Steinbrenner family for giving me this opportunity to say goodbye to everyone, along with all the friends & fans who followed me throughout my 26-year career."
He concluded the message saying, "The day I left for my first job as a pitcher, my father looked at me & said, 'Good luck, Tommy. Just remember one thing: whether you make it big in the big leagues or you don't, you'll always just be Tommy John from Terre Haute, Indiana.
"I've never forgotten those words. Thank you & God Bless."

Valerie Bertinelli found a forgotten strip of film frames while decluttering her home, and the discovery sent her followers straight into preservation mode.
The 66-year-old actor shared a close-up of two color frames showing her younger self posing in black lingerie and strappy heels around a chair. Bertinelli referred to the find as "negatives" in her Instagram caption and said she had completely forgotten she had them.
"I had totally forgotten that I had them, which is why we probably haven't seen them in print anywhere," Bertinelli wrote.
She asked followers a simple question: "Toss or save?" The answer in the comments was clear, with many urging her to keep the images from her early Hollywood years.

Sometimes, you gotta make the tough call to put the old steer out to pasture.
Rhys Hoskins has a 95 wRC+ this season. That, especially on the Guardians, is not bad. However, this includes a 79 wRC+ since June 1st, during which time he has struck out 37% of the time. Even more prominently, since June 1st of LAST season, Hoskins has a 57 wRC+ against LHP. Why has Hoskins forgotten how to hit southpaws on a team that needs him to be able to be the career 130 wRC+ against them he has traditionally been like no other? I don't know. Because the baseball gods hate us, probably. It's likely one of two options: 1. small sample size and he'll eventually correct things, or 2. the canary in the coal mine that he is washed overall.
Regardless, Hoskins isn't helping the Cleveland Guardians win baseball games in his current role of supposed lefty masher who plays first base when LHP are on the mound. He's not a good defender. But, he is, from all accounts, great in the clubhouse. So great that the team is a game under .500 on August 8th. You can probably sense my skepticism that his clubhouse skills are indispensible to this team's success.
I think it's probably time to give Kody Huff a chance at a platoon first-base/occasional catching reps role. Huff has a .793 OPS against LHP and .914 OPS against RHP this season, but has traditionally hit LHP better than RHP as most RHH's do. Most importantly, he has a higher OPS away from the Columbus bandbox than at home (.888/.879). Zach Meisel of the Athletic has repeatedly mentioned on the Selby is Godcast that the team "LOVES" Huff and it was a big reason they were willing to trade Jacob Cozart and Bo Naylor at the trade deadline. Great opportunity to potentially get Huff some experience with Austin Hedges and Patrick Bailey and make use of the 235 innings he has played at first base to hopefully leverage their way to an improvement over what Hoskins has done against left-handed pitching.
By September, if Huff struggles and Ralphy Velazquez continues his recent breakout, I would love to see the team give Velazquez reps in a first base/DH role and let him hit LHP. (Cooper Ingle cannot hit lefties, in case anyone is wondering about him in a full-time DH role). Ralphy has consistently hit LHP slightly better than he has RHP over the past two seasons. He's a full-time hitter, eventually, and it would be great to give him a chance to experience big league pitching and potentially help a team trying to make the playoffs. But, for now, the team needs to take a shot at improving their roster in the Hoskins' role, even at the risk to clubhouse chemistry, and Huff seems to be the best potential option.

Sydney Towle, a social media content creator who projected enduring optimism as she chronicled her life with a rare form of cancer, has died, according to her family. She was 26.
Towle was diagnosed with cholangiocarcinoma, an aggressive form of cancer in the bile ducts, in August 2023. Her mother, Elizabeth Morrow, and brother, Austin Towle, posted a video to her TikTok account confirming she died Wednesday.
"Syd went peacefully last night after an almost three-year long battle with cholangiocarcinoma," her brother said. "She fought really hard, and we're so proud of her, and we thank all of you for your support over the years." Towle's mother said they appreciated the messages of support and that "she will not be forgotten."
Her family described her as "an endless ray of sunshine" and a friend to many. Sydney Elizabeth Towle was born in Newburyport, Massachusetts, on Nov. 15, 1999, and grew up in Hobe Sound, Florida, according to the New York Times. The newspaper reported that she died at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland.
At the time of her diagnosis, Towle already had a presence on social media where she shared videos from her everyday life. She often posted from the beach and loved the outdoors. She was an avid surfer and runner.

The forgotten man in the Cleveland quarterback rotation is forcing himself into the conversation by performing well in practice. But Dillon Gabriel has yet to officially enter the competition to win the starting quarterback job with the Browns.
Does he feel disrespected by that?
"Never disrespected," Gabriel told reporters on Wednesday. "I don't take things personally, it's a business. I'm focused on what I need to do to get better, and that's all I'm focused on. I'm present with that."

Tottenham Hotspur centre-back Ashley Phillips is closing in on a move to Middlesbrough.
According to Sky Sports reporter Michael Bridge, Tottenham are in advanced talks with the Championship side over a deal for the forgotten defender.
Tottenham and Middlesbrough initially struggled to find common ground, but negotiations are now moving in a positive direction. It's only a matter of time before an agreement is finalised.

CharlesOliveira has vowed that AllanNascimento's legacy will live on through Chute Boxe following the death of his longtime teammate.
Wednesday, Aug. 5, marked a solemn day for the Brazilian gym asmembers of the Chute Boxe family gathered to pay their finalrespects to Nascimento. Teammates and coaches formed a guard ofhonor and applauded as Nascimento's casket was carried by membersof the academy.
After Nascimento's funeral, Oliveira shared an emotional message onhis Instagram Stories while fighting back tears. The formerlightweight champion and current BMF ***** leholder promised thatNascimento's impact would continue to inspire the team.
"Allanzito, you were always an example of commitment, disciplineand character to our team," Oliveira said. "Be sure your legacywill never be forgotten. Now we have something even greater tofight for. Nascimento died after suffering a heart attack in his sleep. He was34 years old. "Puro Osso" signed with the Ultimate Fighting Championship in 2021, competing in theflyweight division. He had won four of his six Octagon appearancesbefore his death.

Wednesday, Aug. 5, marked a solemn day for the Brazilian gym asmembers of the Chute Boxe family gathered to pay their finalrespects to Nascimento. Teammates and coaches formed a guard ofhonor and applauded as Nascimento's casket was carried by membersof the academy.
After Nascimento's funeral, Oliveira shared an emotional message onhis Instagram Stories while fighting back tears. The formerlightweight champion and current BMF ***** leholder promised thatNascimento's impact would continue to inspire the team.
"Allanzito, you were always an example of commitment, disciplineand character to our team," Oliveira said. "Be sure your legacywill never be forgotten. Now we have something even greater tofight for. Every time we step into the cage, you will be there withus, yelling 'Heeyyy.' The spirit of Chute Boxe has only grownstronger."
Nascimento died after suffering a heart attack in his sleep. He was34 years old. "Puro Osso" signed with the Ultimate Fighting Championship in 2021, competing in theflyweight division. He had won four of his six Octagon appearancesbefore his death.

It is a massive season for Alexander Isak.
It sounds weird because he is Liverpool's most expensive player in their history, but people have forgotten how much he cost and how big of a coup his arrival was viewed as last summer.
Talk about replacing Mohamed Salah - that's something Liverpool clearly had on their mind last summer. I think we can all agree you're not going to find a right forward who has the output of Salah.
He was the unicorn in the transfer market and a generational player in that respect. I think Liverpool have maybe looked at replacing Salah's numbers through an out-and-out number nine.
That's something we haven't seen Liverpool use over the last couple of years. If you think back to the peak Jurgen Klopp era, it was Roberto Firmino who was a false nine dropping into midfield.

Andrew Baggarly just described today's activity as "frenetic," and he's right. The past two trade deadlines have been practically Zaidian for Buster Posey, Zack Minasian, and the San Francisco Giants. For as much as the franchise has oversteered from the 2019-2024 days, the new regime is a lot like the old one in that no matter what they've done to improve the team, it's been stuck in the zone of mediocre-to-bad. But Zaidi was (seemingly) constrained by ownership in how he could rebuild on the fly. Posey doesn't seem to have any constraints. Does that automatically make today's deadline deals great? In a moment, I'll grade them.
First, though, let's contextualize this ******* ysis. It helps that these 2026ers will go down as one of the worst teams in franchise history, something Zaidi's squads never came close to even suggesting. Trading away a chunk of the roster, then, would seem like a mercy killing. But also, with free agency and the regular season being such busts, the only real excitement these days seems to come from acquiring hope in the form of prospects. The Giants have done that in their past two drafts, at last year's deadline, and now, possibly, this year's deadline, too.

I admit that my eyes darted far to the right by sheer instinct. I've seen farm system rankings for decades now and have become accustomed to the Giants being down, down on the list. And yes, I'd forgotten that I'd written up FanGraphs' farm rankings back in June. The Giants have been on the rise for some time now. But heading into the trade deadline ranked #9 ? Cool! And that was before the majority of the trades.
Second, I hope people have internalized that trade deadline deals are usually not great deals. Yes, headliners are moved, but rarely does the team getting prospects in return get equal (future) value. But, like, in the case of say, the Detroit Tigers, it was going to be hard to get back fair value for Tarik Skubal whether they traded him before the season or at the deadline, and the fact that they decided to try to go for it this season with Skubal is a very reasonable one on their part that just didn't work out in the way they'd hoped.

The Los Angeles Rams lit up the scoreboard last season as the No. 1 offense in the NFL, and they're returning all of their key players. Puka Nacua, Davante Adams and Kyren Williams are the primary skill players around Matthew Stafford, but second-year tight end Terrance Ferguson should not be forgotten.
Ferguson made the most of his limited opportunities last season, averaging 21 yards per catch on 11 receptions, with three of those catches going for touchdowns. Entering Year 2, Ferguson's stock is trending up.
Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated recently visited Rams training camp and from what he's heard, Ferguson has had a "fantastic offseason" and the Rams "now believe he could grow into one of the NFL's best tight ends.
On offense, Davante Adams, Puka Nacua and Kyren Williams are where you'd expect them to be, and Colby Parkinson is leading a deep, versatile tight end group. The second layer of skill talent is where the offense could look a little different than it did a year ago. Terrance Ferguson has had a fantastic offseason. The man responsible for delivering Glasgow 2026 said the city had "saved and reinvented" the Commonwealth Games, three years after its future was plunged into doubt.
Ahead of Sunday's closing ceremony - which featured a dazzling fireworks display over the River Clyde - Phil Batty recalled how Glasgow stepped up when the original hosts pulled out.
And he believes the legacy of the sustainable, scaled-back Games will shape the future of the multi-sports event.
The Commonwealth flag was last night ceremonially handed over to the Indian city of Amdavad, which will stage the centenary event in 2030.
But Batty said Glasgow's decision to host the event for a second time in 12 years would never be forgotten.

The offensive line has become one of the more appreciated aspects of team-building after being forgotten about for years, it seemed. Teams now build up their offenses through the trenches before attempting to add the right quarterback and pieces to make plays happen.
The one spot specifically of the offensive line that gets built up is the offensive tackle position. Some teams, like the Bucs, have made it a point to have bookend tackles in place to protect the interior aspects of the line. They have both Tristan Wirfs and Luke Goedeke in place, and they make the Tampa Bay line one of the best.
We say this because PFF recently ranked the top offensive tackles in the NFL, and we wanted to see where they ranked. When it came to Tristan Wirfs, he ranked 2nd overall in their piece, making him arguably the best offensive tackle in the NFL.
They wrote about the ranking, saying, "Wirfs has long been established as one of the NFL's premier players and, when healthy, he recorded the best performance of his career in 2025. Though he played a career-low 778 snaps due to injury, Wirfs ranked second among qualified tackles with an elite 92.7 PFF grade. He allowed just two sacks while setting a new career-high with a 91.6 PFF run-blocking grade. Wirfs is in the early stages of building a Hall of Fame resume and should perform at an elite level again in 2026."

Eight-time PBA Tour champion Jakob **** urff died on Friday, July 31, the Professional Bowlers **** ociation announced. He was 32.
No cause of death was announced. The PBA said **** urff "died unexpectedly."
"Jakob was one of the most unique players in PBA history," PBA Commissioner Tom Clark said in a statement. "Fans marveled at his delivery, as he rode a wave of strikes into becoming a top player in the sport, capable of winning at any time, in any event.
"Jakob was kind, he was respectful, and he was a champion. He will never be forgotten. Our hearts are with all **** ers touched on his one-of-a-kind journey."
Included in **** urff's eight victories was a major win at the 2019 USBC Masters. He also picked up 27 PBA Regional Tour **** les and was a 7-time member of Team USA, per the PBA. He bowled a televised 300 during the 2020 PBA Tour Finals.

De'Zhaun Stribling has been one of my favorite fantasy rookie wideouts, despite the fact that he started the summer behind Mike Evans, Ricky Pearsall, and Christian Kirk on the depth chart. Now Kirk is hurt. A strong camp would make Stribling one of fantasy's biggest bargains.
When the Niners selected Stribling with the first pick in the second round of this year's draft, they were investing in a potentially NFL-ready wideout. But why? Aren't they deep at receiver with Evans, Pearsall, and Kirk, along with TE George Kittle and monster pass-catching RB Christian McCaffrey? But most of these guys are on the verge of post-prime. McCaffrey is 30. Kittle and Evans are entering their age-33 seasons. Kirk will turn 30 in November.
All four -- plus Pearsall -- are sub-par on the durability scale. It would be farfetched to think that Stribling won't earn starts. Kirk has been the most likely domino to fall, as he's been frequently injured and in decline these past two years. Now that he's injured, the door is open for Stribling to seize a Week 1 starting role.
Three weeks ago, Stribling's ADP was WR68. Now it's somehow 100. The market has forgotten about him. Savvy managers shouldn't.

And on that horizon, it shouldn't be forgotten just how much is at stake this season; the Eagles have one of the most talented rosters in the NFL and at least some reason for optimism that they can continue the trend of following up a Super-Bowl hungover season with a deep postseason run the next year.
As we eagerly await the start of this season's journey, here are five thoughts on Jalen Carter signing a contract extension and the biggest position battles that will play out over the next handful of weeks.
On training camp eve, the Eagles made Carter the richest defensive tackle in the NFL with a four-year contract extension reportedly worth $152 million with another $8 million in incentives and $106 million in guarantees according to ESPN.
Since Carter had both this upcoming season and the fifth-year option in 2027 left on his rookie deal, his contract is now essentially a six-year contract that will give the Eagles some flexibility in how they handle that new money. My guess is the cap hits will be friendlier than the initial shock value may have suggested as a result, even with Carter surpassing the $100-million guaranteed mark the Tennessee **** ans gave Jeffery Simmons earlier this month.

While neither head coach Gautam Gambhir nor chairman of selectors Ajit Agarkar has publicly committed to their participation in the 2027 World Cup, keeping the speculation around their future alive.
India's recent 1-2 ODI series defeat against England only added fuel to the conversation. Rohit silenced critics with a match-winning century in the series finale, registering his 34th ODI hundred amid speculation that the Lord's fixture could be his final international appearance. Kohli, meanwhile, chipped in with two half-centuries during the series after both senior batters struggled in the opening match.
Former India wicketkeeper-batter Deep Dasgupta believes there is no need to question Rohit and Kohli's places in the side, but stressed that both must make an immediate impact whenever a series begins instead of taking time to settle.
"That has to be a conversation with everyone, not just them (Kohli and Rohit), that they have to start the series well and hit the ground running. That is a challenge. You can't take one or two games to get into the groove. But that's where the support staff comes in and has conversations with the players by creating an environment to get the best out of everyone," Deep Dasgupta said on his YouTube channel.
Dasgupta insisted that the standards applied to the two stalwarts should remain unchanged despite the increasing scrutiny around their careers.
"There is no conversation needed with them about their places in the team. Four years back, it wasn't like they had to be reminded before every series that they would be in the team. They knew they would be in the team based on their performances. So how does that change now? It does not and should not change," he added.
Questions over the future of Rohit and Kohli have surfaced repeatedly since both retired from Test cricket last year, leaving ODIs as their only international format. Before the Lord's ODI against England, reports suggested that the selection committee was considering moving on from Rohit ahead of the 2027 World Cup to create an opening for Yashasvi Jaiswal.
However, the BCCI leadership dismissed reports that the Lord's encounter would be Rohit's final international appearance.

Jenny Shin fell in love with links golf the first time she played the Women's British Open at Carnoustie 15 years ago.
"I couldn't believe what I was seeing, what I was playing," she said. "One day it was blowing 40 miles. The next day, it's just calm. I had forgotten to play when it was calm.
"So I kind of fell in love, like this is a true test of golf. You have to be so creative, and I'm quite creative around the greens and I love hitting different shots."
Shin's love is certainly shining through at the ISPS Handa Women's Scottish Open, where she leads by five at the halfway mark. Rounds of 66-67 put her at 11 under for the tournament, taking a total of 50 putts in the first two rounds. She'll play in the final group on Saturday alongside Olympic silver medalist Esther Henseleit. Major champion A Lim Kim is six shots back at 5 under.
Shin said she's never skipped the Scottish Open, calling it her favorite stop on tour.
