Detroit Tigers rookie Max Clark wanted a clean appearance.
In the starting lineup for his MLB debut Friday night against the host Athletics, the 2023 No. 3 overall draft pick did not want to repeat his Grapefruit League performance from Feb. 24.
Facing the Atlanta Braves during the Tigers' third exhibition game, Clark misplayed two routine fly ***** at CoolToday Park, creating a poor look.
"It was 100 percent the sun," he said, as reported by MLB.com.

The clock has started on the two-season window at Bayern Munich.
As the roster currently stands, the Bavarians are set up to make a strong run at winning a treble this season and next season. The talent and depth far exceeds even last season and — right now — the team appears to be one of the best in the world.

There is no doubt about it at this point — Bayern Munich has no intention of selling Harry Kane, nor Michael Olise.
So…what's next? The Bavarians need to get both men extensions and hopefully soon. Let's not let any potential distractions linger into the heart of the season. Both will be expensive and both will thrust the two players to thew very top of the club's pay scale when factoring in the salary + bonus structure.

Joe Burrow has never been shy about telling the Cincinnati Bengals what he thinks they need to do to build a championship-caliber team. The star quarterback has mentioned this 2026 Bengals team being one of the best he's been a part of to date.
On Wednesday, as the Bengals opened training camp for the 2026 season, Burrow offered a particularly strong endorsement of one player who is currently looking for a new contract: running back Chase Brown.
Brown is entering the final year of his rookie deal, and while contract talks have been part of the Bengals' offseason storyline, the 26-year-old running back remains without an extension. Burrow's latest comments certainly sounded like a quarterback who would like to see that situation changed.
"He does everything. He's a complete back," Burrow said of Brown.

NBC Sports Philadelphia is budgeting to add a courtside voice to its Sixers broadcasts ahead of LeBron James's arrival this season, network vice president of content Alexandra Matcham told the Philadelphia Inquirer.
"I think you need a voice on the court where Alaa [Abdelnaby] and Kate [Scott] can't be to give us insight, do pre- and postgame interviews, **** ysis, all of that," Matcham said. "It's a very hard job to do."
For years, NBC Sports Philadelphia and its predecessor, Comcast SportsNet, used reporters like Serena Winters and Taryn Hatcher to fill that kind of role for the Sixers. That stopped in 2020, when the network began eliminating in-arena and in-game reporting jobs across its properties as basketball and hockey seasons wrapped that year, according to Crossing Broad's Kevin Kinkead. Hatcher stayed on covering the Phillies for five more seasons after that before her contract lapsed at the end of 2025 and NBC Sports Philadelphia cut the position rather than renew it. Kinkead later reported that the network and Hatcher had discussed a freelance arrangement that would have let her take on other work at the same time, but the talks ended without an agreement over what Kinkead's sources described as a standard contract disagreement, not any real conflict between the two sides.
That left NBC Sports Philadelphia without anyone in that role for the entirety of the Sixers' 2025-26 season, and the roster now taking shape gives the network far less room to go another year without one.
"If you get a generational talent on your team, it could easily become a situation where the people that work for us are burnt out by December, and you don't want that," Matcham said. "You need extra help."

Anthony Smith has been released from Sarpy County Jail in Nebraska.
The former UFC light heavyweight ****** le challenger, who later transitioned to the role of ****** yst for UFC broadcasts, was arrested last Monday night (July 27, 2026) on felony charges of Attempted First Degree Domestic ****** ault, Terroristic Threats, and First Degree False Imprisonment.
Smith appeared before the judge on Wednesday morning and released on $500,000 bond.
That's according to a report from MMA Fighting, though Smith's arrest affidavit remains sealed. All we know at this stage is that "Lionheart" is facing serious allegations and will return to court at some point in the near future. Neither Smith nor UFC have issued a statement at the time of this writing.
Smith, who turned 38 just a few days back, retired from UFC in early 2025 but returned to action for Jorge Masvidal's Gamebred Bareknuckle MMA in April, securing a submission victory over fellow UFC export Chase Sherman. If convicted, Smith (39-22) could be facing up to 20 years in prison.

According to a report from The Spokesman Review's Greg Woods, the Washington Huskies and Washington State Cougars will not play their annual Apple Cup rivalry on the hardwood.
It's the first time since 1917 that the two teams won't meet in the regular season after the Huskies moved from the Pac-12 to the Big Ten following the end of the 2023-24 season; instead, the in-state rivals will play an exhibition game in Seattle at some point this fall.
The Huskies currently lead the series 189-111, and have won the last three matchups against the Cougars, most recently an 81-69 victory in Pullman.
In that contest, the Huskies were led by freshman forward Hannes Steinbach, who posted 14 points and 13 rebounds as part of a stellar season that saw him selected by the Charlotte Hornets with the No. 14 overall pick in June's NBA draft, while sophomore guard Wesley Yates added 26 points and 7 rebounds in the win.
Coach Danny Sprinkle, who grew up a Husky after being born in Pullman because his late father, Bill, played defensive back for Washington in the 1960s, is undefeated in his two games against the Cougars and will have to wait at least another year for an opportunity to earn another win over WSU.

Former IndyCar Series driver and F1 TV pundit James Hinchcliffe has argued that Aston Martin's highly anticipated upgrade package at the Hungarian Grand Prix should not be judged solely on its immediate pace, warning that the team will need time to maximise the changes.
Ahead of the final race before Formula 1's summer break, the Silverstone outfit is debuting a massive upgrade package at the Hungaroring. Aston Martin opted against introducing incremental changes, instead choosing to target Hungary to essentially bring a B-spec car.
Speaking on F1 TV's Weekend Warm-Up, Hinchcliffe discussed the pressure on the Adrian Newey-led squad to deliver a result.
"Yes, there's a lot of pressure, certainly. They've made a bold choice. I've never seen anything quite like it in Formula 1 to just sit on the car as is and have everything come in one go," Hinchcliffe explained.
"And there's just going to be so much hope, so much anticipation for this weekend that it all works. Now remember, just because you bolted it onto the car today doesn't mean you've maximised the package today.

The biggest transaction the New York Giants have made ahead of training camp might actually be the one they did not make.
Third-year wide receiver Malik Nabers has manage to avoid placement on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list ahead of training camp. New York placed three players on the list – tight end Thomas Fidone II, defensive lineman Roy Robertson-Harris and defensive lineman Sam Roberts – but notably left Nabers off of it.
Nabers, 22, missed all but four games in his second season in the NFL after tearing his ACL in a game against the Los Angeles Chargers. The young wideout was coming off of a Pro Bowl rookie season, and his injury in 2025 was a major blow to a Giants offense that was just starting to find its footing under then-rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart.
The fact that the Giants did not need to put Nabers on the PUP list is a very positive sign for his recovery from the torn ACL. As New York ramps up its preseason preparation in West Virginia starting on July 28, Nabers will be among training camp participants as he works back up to full speed. Barring any setbacks, the young wideout may be in line to play during the first four weeks of the season.

The Atlanta Falcons did not have a first-round pick in the 2026 NFL Draft, but they added two players in Round 1 of last year's draft. Edge rushers Jalon Walker and James Pearce Jr. both impressed as rookies (on the field), however, the team still missed the playoffs last season.
The Falcons' blockbuster trade with the Los Angeles Rams to acquire Pearce in 2025 left general manager Ian Cunningham a bit shorthanded in his first draft taking over for Terry Fontenot. The team's philosophy on draft capital has shifted under Cunningham, but Fontenot definitely hit on a few of his first-round picks.
The Falcons drafted Kyle Pitts, Drake London and Bijan Robinson in consecutive years. While the jury is still out on Michael Penix Jr., most of Fontenot's Round 1 picks were solid.

Indiana Fever superstar guard Caitlin Clark picked up her seventh technical foul of the season on Wednesday night, putting her one technical foul away from a one-game suspension.
At least this latest technical foul was pretty funny.
She and Connecticut Sun guard Saniya Rivers both picked up techs for trash-talking at each other during the Fever blowout victory in Indy, with intrepid lip-readers catching what Clark said to get her technical foul.
"Look at the scoreboard," Clark seemed to tell Rivers during the lopsided game. That's apparently what got Clark the foul; something high school cheering sections chant at opposing teams across the country.
The refs should have just dropped both technical fouls and let Clark and Rivers do their talking and move on, but that's not what happened. Now, Clark is a tech away from sitting out for a game.

An attorney representing Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Puka Nacua referred to the biting incident that left him facing a lawsuit and possible battery charges was "a minor incident’" and said it "caused little harm."
The attorney, Levi McCathern, II, made his comments Tuesday, July 21, after USA TODAY Sports published a photo of the injury a woman said she suffered when Nacua bit her Dec. 31, 2025.
Joseph Kar, the woman’s attorney, provided USA TODAY Sports a color copy of a photo in court documents.
“This is just another attorney, along with his client, trying to turn a minor incident into a multimillion-dollar payday,’’ McCathern said in written comments provided to USA TODAY Sports by his law firm. “I think most people see this for what it is, a young man’s mistake that caused little harm. Now they’re going after one of the NFL’s brightest young stars because they see dollar signs.’’
McCathern added, “We have to stop rewarding this type of behavior, where every minor incident involving a public figure is treated like a winning lottery ticket.”

Friends and family of rising boxing star Hannah Rapp will host candlelight vigils Wednesday as part of a national movement to honor her life and memory.
Rapp, the 26-year-old Yorktown native and WBC women's featherweight boxer, died on Saturday after being hit by a car while riding her bicycle in Brazos County, Texas, in an apparent road rage incident.
The Brazos County sheriff's office said in a statement that 31-year-old Charles Medina had passed two cyclists Saturday morning before stopping his vehicle, shifting into reverse, and striking one of the riders, identified as Rapp. Medina has since been arrested and charged with manslaughter.
Connor Mitton, owner and coach of Dark Side Boxing Club at 1433 E. Dollar Ct. in Brookston, said his club will host a candlelight vigil to honor Rapp, a former member of the club, to coincide with a vigil at her boxing gym in Bryan, Texas, and in her hometown of Yorktown, Indiana, held in Morrow Meadows at the Pavillion.
The vigils will start at 8:30 p.m., Mitton said, with candle lighting to begin at 9:30 p.m.

Not only were current Alabama Crimson Tide baseball players selected in the 2026 MLB draft, but a few committed to play for the program next season were as well.
Among those were a pair of transfer portal additions, the first of which was selected in the opening rounds Saturday night in Dylan Marionneaux. The Northwestern State transfer was selected in the fourth round, taken by the Chicago Cubs with the No. 126 pick overall.
In addition to Marionneaux, Garrett Lambert also came off the board early Sunday. The Mercer transfer was drafted by the Colorado Rockies, selected with the No. 165 overall pick in the sixth round.
Alabama also had one of their top high school commits selected as well in Hudson DeVaughan, who was drafted in the 19th round at pick No. 569 overall by the Kansas City Royals. DeVaughan is a right-handed pitcher out of Mooresville High School in Indiana, ranking as the nation's No. 125 overall player in the 2026 class by Perfect Game.
All three will likely be names to watch in the coming days and weeks to see whether they sign professionally with those teams or not. If they do not sign, each will then likely play a significant role for the Crimson Tide in 2027.

Josh Allen tries to be one step ahead on the football field. Now the NFL star is attempting to do the same off the field.
The Buffalo Bills quarterback figures to have plenty left in the tank for his playing career. At age 30, Allen is in the prime of his career and just recently won the NFL MVP award in 2024. He is still chasing that first Super Bowl, something the Bills franchise has yet to win either.
Even if Allen plays for another 10 years, it's never too early to start thinking about the future. Allen joined CNBC's Alex Sherman for an interview, where the quarterback revealed that he would "entertain" the idea of going into broadcasting when his playing days are finished.
However, Allen does have some reservations about making that leap.
"I do think it would be cool if you can keep it from a strictly broadcasting angle," Allen told Sherman. "When players go from players to journalists and say certain things that they hated people saying about them, I think that's where it gets a little murky for me. But, I do think that it would be something I would entertain.

UNC baseball’s Ryan Lynch was selected by the San Diego Padres with the 97th overall pick in the 2026 MLB Draft on Saturday, July 11.
Lynch was the fourth Tar Heel to be selected on the opening day of the draft, joining pitcher Jason DeCaro, who was picked by the Pittsburgh Pirates, along with shortstop Jake Schaffner and outfielder Owen Hull, both of who were drafted by the Boston Red Sox.
A draft-eligible sophomore pitcher, Lynch was the No. 2 starter in his second season at UNC. His projected slot value at No. 97 in the draft is $808,100.

PHILADELPHIA — With the No. 1 pick in what could be the last MLB draft of its type, the White Sox selected UCLA shortstop Roch Cholowsky on Saturday afternoon at the Pennsylvania Convention Center.
The White Sox, winners of the draft lottery last offseason, opted for the more secure route in taking the back-to-back Big Ten player of the year. Chicago also seriously considered taking Texas high school shortstop Grady Emerson, who instead went to the Rays with the second overall pick.
Cholowsky, expected since late last year to be the top overall pick, will be in line for a $11.35 million signing bonus. The White Sox, however, have some latitude within their overall $20.49 million bonus pool to go above or below that individual slot value for Cholowsky—to either help get a contract done or to save money to aid in deals with other draft picks.
The White Sox have been one of the more notable stories of the 2026 MLB season so far, rebounding from three consecutive 100-loss seasons that included a MLB-record 121-loss campaign in 2024. Entering Saturday's games, Chicago is now in a virtual tie with the Guardians for the AL Central division lead.
Cholowsky is the first Bruin to be picked first in the MLB draft since the Pirates selected Gerrit Cole, now with the Yankees, at that position in 2011.

She went on to star for the Leith-based club, making more than 170 appearances in all competitions and scoring almost a goal every other game. Adams won the SWPL ***** le with Hibs in 2024/2025. She helped the club end an 18-year wait to regain their league crown.
On the international stage, Adams has been capped by Scotland on four occasions.
