The Atlanta Dream had a rough go of things on Friday night. The Dream entered the action against the Portland Fire looking to stave off the Indiana Fever and hold onto the fourth spot in the standings. It was a sight for sore eyes when Arizona Cardinals edge rusher Josh Sweat participated in practice Monday for the first time in training camp after being removed from the active/physically unable to perform (PUP) list.

However, a closer look shows that Sweat's snaps and productivity plummeted during the final eight games of the 2025 season, a stretch that saw the Cardinals lose each of those games and with a defense that lost four by a combined score of 159-71.

Buffalo Bills general manager Brandon Beane issued a statement on Saturday expressing his and the organization's condolences to defensive tackle Ed Oliver on the death of his 2-year-old son.
"It's an unthinkable tragedy for any parent. We will continue to support Ed and his family as we grieve this tragic loss," Beane said as the Bills prepared to play a preseason game in Cleveland.
Oliver has asked for privacy and prayers while still mourning his son, who was also named Ed. The toddler was **** ounced dead after being found unresponsive in a residential pool in Harris County, Texas, on June 28, a person briefed on what happened told The **** ociated Press. The person spoke to the AP on the condition of anonymity because the team and player have not revealed that information.

In what has become an increasingly common chapter in high-profile NFL contract negotiation sagas, Steelers cornerback Joey Porter Jr. is now the subject of trade rumors, according to insider Jordan Schultz.
"Joey Porter Jr. is a name multiple teams around the NFL have wondered about as a potential trade target, per source," Schultz posted late Thursday. "(Porter) is in the final year of his rookie contract, and with where the CB market is, teams have wondered if Pittsburgh could ultimately be open to a move with the Pro Bowl caliber corner."
The Steelers have completed contract extensions with three members of the team's 2023 draft class already this offseason with Nick Herbig, Darnell Washington and most recently Keeanu Benton landing new deals. And with the top of the cornerback market now solidly over $30 million per year on average — the Seahawks' Devon Witherspoon recently signed a four-year, $132 million extension — Porter's asking price is expected to be well above what his teammates received.
Porter remains under contract in 2026, but started camp on the physically unable to perform list with a reported back injury.

Oregon football coach Dan Lanning has often expressed his disinterest in polls, preseason or otherwise. When asked in 2024 about his team's No. 1 ranking midseason, its first atop the polls in over a decade, the coach said, "Who cares?"
In 2026, with the Ducks carrying their highest preseason ranking ever heading into the year in the AP Poll and holding the same preseason rank in the USA Today coaches poll at No. 2, Lanning offered a similar two word answer when asked Aug. 18 if ever takes the time to appreciate what the ranking says about the program.

Lanning was asked later about blocking out outside expectations, with many outlets giving Oregon preseason All-America honors, national ****** le favorite odds and so on, and how easy that task is in today's day and age.
The fifth-year coach wasn't quite as brief, but was just as frank about what preseason accolades mean to him and his program.

WEST LAFAYETTE — Purdue football's next foray into expanding corporate sponsorships opportunities will begin on Rohrman Field this fall.
Progressive on Tuesday announced a new partnership with 13 programs, including Purdue, through Learfield. The Progressive logo will now be featured on the Ross-Ade Stadium playing field.
The sponsorship will include on-field branding inside Ross-Ade Stadium, per a news release, as well as videoboard features, LED signage, digital and social media integrations and other experiences throughout the game.
Financial terms and duration of the agreement were not disclosed. By securing the deals through Learfield, its marketing and branding partner, Purdue and other schools have also traditionally shielded the financial terms of such deals from public records disclosures.

On the eve of the season, the Lobos brought in some extra help.
After being granted a fifth year of eligibility, Memphis transfer linebacker Jayden Flaker has joined New Mexico and began practice with the Lobos on Monday afternoon.
The 6-foot-2, 235-pound Scarborough, Maine native made 19 total tackles over the last two seasons with the Tigers. He started his college career at North Carolina Central University, where he led the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference with 85 tackles as a sophomore in 2023.
Monday, head coach Jason Eck said Flaker will play as a Star (nickel, or fifth defensive back) in UNM's 4-2-5 base defense.
"He kind of gives us a bigger body at Star, which could be good against teams that want to run the ball — you know, Central Michigan, North Dakota State," he added. "You want to be more three linebackers than five (defensive backs) and things like that. He'll help on (special) teams as well."

Every NFL player remembers his first game. Regardless of position or draft status, there is no substitute for experiencing an NFL game for the first time. That reality hit home for several members of the New York Jets' rookie class Friday night.
The preseason opener against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers may not count in the standings, but it represented a major milestone for players who spent years imagining what it would feel like to wear an NFL uniform and compete in front of family and friends.
How about that game by the undrafted rookie, Mory Bamba? He told media members that he "can't wait" to call his mom. And how about the No. 2 overall pick, David Bailey? The latter described the experience as something he won't soon forget.
"That was my first NFL game," Bailey said. "It's definitely going to be memorable. Obviously, there's going to be no experience like that. Having the fans out there was a lot of fun. Playing with my teammates, getting out in that particular environment was a lot of fun."
Bailey's comments reflected a sentiment shared throughout the rookie class. The game offered more than another step in training camp. It confirmed that the long journey from college football to the NFL had officially reached a new chapter. Head coach Aaron Glenn was very proud of the rookie's efforts.

Barcelona have agreed a deal with Manchester City for midfielder Rodri and are now set to welcome the World Cup winner to Camp Nou.
The midfielder was into the final year of his contract at City but has chosen to head back to Spain. Real Madrid were keen on Rodri but he's decided to head to Barcelona instead.
The Catalans have agreed to pay €76.5million (£65.3m; $87.8m) for Rodri, according to David Ornstein at The Athletic. The fee breaks down into an upfront fee of €60m (£51.2m; $68.8m) plus add-ons.
Ornstein says that €11m of the bonuses are "highly achievable" so Barcelona are set to pay at least €71.5m for Rodri.
Rodri is now set to sign a four-year contract with Barcelona and will hope to add more ***** les to his already impressive collection during his time in Catalunya.

Tied after nine innings of baseball, the Orioles and Rays each turned to a member of their bullpen to try and keep the other team from scoring. For the Rays, it was Bryan Baker. Baker has transformed himself into a leading closer this year, posting a 1.55 ERA and a league-leading 34 saves. His last 21 appearances have come in Rays wins. For the Orioles, it was Cam Sanders. In 2025-26, Sanders made 15 appearances for the Pirates with an 8.44 ERA and 15 walks in 16 innings. The Orioles claimed him on waivers on July 13th. Which pitcher would you take?
Baker started the 10th inning against his former team with free (and pinch) runner Colton Cowser at second base. He was facing the top of the order, which naturally meant Tyler O'Neill. O'Neill was hitless to that point, but he came through in extras. Baker gave him a 96 mph fastball and O'Neill served it right back up the middle for a single. Cowser scored and the Orioles were back on top, 4-3. Pete Alonso followed with a single, but Baker stopped the bleeding after that. (If you were watching and worried about Alonso's apparent injury on this hit, Craig Albernaz said after the game that his calf was cramping and it's not serious.)
Then it was Sanders's turn. The bushy-bearded four eyes somehow already has two saves for the Orioles. Sanders got the first out on a line drive to center field that made me glad it was Cowser out there, then issued a walk to make things dramatic. But he came back and struck out Cedric Mullins and Richie Palacios to end the game. Orioles win, 4-3! Cam Sanders 1, Bryan Baker 0.

I am beginning to see why it's not ideal for him to bat fifth.
