Mitchell Starc made a stunning start to the second Test against Bangladesh, taking a wicket with the first ball of the match before finishing the opening day with six wickets. Bangladesh's Shoriful Islam later matched Starc's six-wicket haul as 18 wickets fell on a dramatic day of Test cricket on Saturday.
Shoriful, who returned to the Bangladesh side after recovering from a side strain that kept him out of the first Test, finished with 6-35.
Australia were 165-8 at stumps and had taken a 101-run lead. Cameron Green was unbeaten on 51, while Nathan Lyon was not out on 10.
Australia won the toss and decided to bowl first. Captain Pat ****** mins felt the pitch could offer some help to the bowlers early in the morning.
"The wicket looks pretty good, but if there is any moisture in it, it might be this morning," ****** mins had said during the toss.
Starc quickly proved his captain right.
Shadman Islam was caught at gully off a leading edge from the very first ball, giving Starc his record fourth career wicket with the first delivery of a match.
Starc then removed Tanzid Hasan before having Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto caught lbw in the third over.
Bangladesh, which had surprisingly won the first Test of the two-match series, was suddenly in deep trouble.
Starc took his fourth wicket when Cameron Green made a grass-top catch to dismiss Mominul Haque for 9. Mominul was the only Bangladesh batter among the first four to score a run. Starc then trapped Litton Das lbw for his fifth wicket before taking his sixth after lunch. He finished with figures of 6-12 from 10 overs, while ****** mins took three wickets.
Bangladesh were dismissed for just 64 shortly after lunch. It was their lowest total while batting first in Australia since South Africa were bowled out for 36 in 1932.
No. 11 batter Shoriful Islam was Bangladesh's highest scorer with 14.
The pitch continued to be difficult for batting even after the morning session. Australia's batters also found it hard to score freely.
Starc was delighted with his incredible first session and spoke to his wife, television commentator and former Australia captain Alyssa Healy while walking off the field at lunch.
"Six (wickets) in the first session, can't beat that," Starc told his wife, television commentator and former Australia captain Alyssa Healy while walking off the field at lunch. "Obviously a little bit of anger."
After Bangladesh were bowled out, Australia looked to take control of the Test.
But Shoriful Islam had other plans.
The left-arm Bangladesh fast bowler made an impressive return after missing the first Test because of a side strain. He took six wickets for 35 runs and helped Bangladesh fight back.
Australia lost eight wickets before the end of the day and finished on 165-8. Green stood firm and remained unbeaten on 51, while Lyon was not out on 10. Australia therefore ended the day with a 101-run lead.

A dog that went missing during a Lake District walk on Helvellyn three weeks ago has been found.
The pet, called Teddy, disappeared on 2 August, promoting a search by volunteers from Keswick Mountain Rescue Team and others.
It was found stuck at Dry Gill on Friday after one of the search party heard barking.
Due to the dangerous location, a mountain rescue team was called to help bring the dog to safety, before it was returned to the "relieved" owner about three hours later and taken to a vet.
"The team are absolutely delighted to share this update, as the news of this missing dog had deeply affected so many people across our local community," a spokesperson said.

Prince William and Kate Middleton reportedly traveled to their Scottish residence amid news of the Sussexes' planned UK return. A source claimed that the Prince and Princess of Wales are not "delighted" by Prince Harry's latest move, suggesting it could be difficult for them to see the Sussexes return to the public eye while their relationship remains strained beyond repair.
Prince William and Kate Middleton joined King Charles at Balmoral with their three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis. The Waleses traditionally visit the Scottish residence each year, but it remains unclear how long they will stay this time. Their visit comes amid reports that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are planning to spend an extended period in the UK.
HELLO!'s royal editor Emily Nash discussed the Waleses' reported reaction to the Sussexes' return on the A Right Royal Podcast. She suggested that Prince William and Kate Middleton may not be particularly pleased by the prospect.
She explained, "Well, what is intriguing about this is the complete radio silence coming from that end of the spectrum. And what's interesting about it is that they're normally away at this time of year. I imagine they're not delighted about this."
Reflecting on the deeply strained relationship between the two couples, Nash added, "It's going to be a very, very difficult hill to climb, having them suddenly back in the UK, popping up, doing things publicly, if that's where they go with this. So much has been said and done that has damaged that relationship, almost beyond repair."

Just a year after leaving Borussia Mönchengladbach to join Ajax for a reported €10.5 million, Ko Itakura is back at Borussia-Park.
Die Fohlen confirmed the return of the 29-year-old centre-back on a contract until 2030 on Thursday.
"We were already considering bringing Ko Itakura back to Borussia over the winter. What sounded like a bold plan at the time has since become reality," said Gladbach head of sports Rouven Schröder.
Itakura arrives as a replacement for Nico Elvedi, who recently left the club to join Leeds United.
"We are delighted to have signed a player that brings exactly the experience and quality that we were looking for following Nico Elvedi's departure. The fact that we found all that in someone who is already familiar with the club and will need hardly any time to settle in, in addition to being really keen on coming back, just rounds everything off," said Schröder.

Brentford head coach Keith Andrews said: "I like Yunus a lot. I've seen his development at close quarters, even going back to when I was set-piece coach.
"I really like him as a young man. He came over here not speaking much English, and he's a really popular member of the squad because he's all in on Brentford.
"I have a lot of time for him. I'm delighted to get him tied down long term to allow him to go out and continue his development.
"It is really important that Yunus continues his development by playing first-team football in an environment that we think will be good for him and beneficial for his game.
"We really saw the benefits of him going out and playing regularly for Oxford last season. The easiest thing would be to keep him in and around our squad but, for him, it's important that he goes and takes the next step in his development.

Bayern Munich won the Telekom Cup against RB Leipzig 3-1. The preseason tournament featured a majority of the first-teamers, as opposed to the previous games where there was a more heterogenous mix of youngsters and seasoned players. Through the preseason, midfielders Aleksandar Pavlović and Tom Bischof have both impressed. The former spoke after the game, expressing his delight in the win.
"We're delighted to have won the game," ge expressed (as captured by iMiaSanMia).
"It wasn't an easy game; Leipzig played well and put us under a lot of pressure. But we showed what we're capable of and deservedly won," he went on. Leipzig was certainly keeping Bayern on their toes — their attack was constantly on the lookout (10 shots with 5 on target.)
"Personally, I'm very happy with my performance. I've settled into pre-season well," he went on. "I'm also very happy with the team. We have a great team spirit, we've trained hard, prepared well and shown in the games what we're capable of," he praised the team.
"We have a great mentality and great players – and there is still more to come [from the team]," he declared.

Cadillac F1 has named a new team principal as it prepares for the second half of the GM brand's inaugural Formula One season.
Marcin Budkowski, a 49-year-old Polish-French engineer, will take the helm as Cadillac has struggled to gain consistency from the back of the field. Determined to be competitive in its first year, Cadillac F1 CEO Dan Towriss said the leadership change was a planned transition from building a team to putting points on the board. Future challenges include developing the team's 2027 car and preparing for hybrid powertrain changes that could include a V-8.
Cadillac F1 is the only team yet to score a point at the midseason break. The world's fastest and most popular motorsport returns Aug. 23 at Circuit Zandvoort for the Dutch Grand Prix.
"We're at this inflection point with the summer break," said Towriss in a call with media Wednesday. "Cadillac has gone through this initial build phase . . . and now as we look at the development phase, there's a real opportunity here to build something new. We're delighted to welcome Martin to Cadillac Formula One (and) excited about what he brings to the table. This is the perfect time to make (a leadership) change as we go into the second half of our inaugural season (and) as we start to think about building the 2027 car."
Budkowski replaces Graham Lowden, who did yeoman's work to get the F1 field's 11th team to grid in just 10 months after Cadillac received approval to race in 2025.

I can still picture my prized holographic BOOK IT! pin, the one with pages that turned as you tilted it. It filled up with stars I earned through a full Baby-Sitters Club obsession and anything even remotely ghost-related, then kicked around various jewelry boxes and bins of ephemera for years. As a kid I proudly identified as a voracious reader, and the pin was the proof. The Pizza Hut pizza was simply a bonus.
Recently, I sat down to talk with Chrissy Teigen about her partnership with Pizza Hut's BOOK IT! program, and it quickly turned into a delightful nostalgia-fest. What doubly delighted me was how authentically excited she is about reading and about passing that love down to her kids. "The little exclamation point is like what excited me the most," she told me about her own childhood pin, and we were off.
There's real substance behind the nostalgia. Pizza Hut created BOOK IT! in 1984 with a simple mission, to turn "have to read" into "want to read" for kids everywhere, and it worked. It's now the longest-running corporate-supported reading program in the country, and by Pizza Hut's own count it has encouraged more than 70 million children to read since it launched, handing out an estimated 1.5 billion pizzas along the way.
Teigen, who turned 40 this year, has spent the past few years reconnecting with her childhood friends from Snohomish, Washington. The things that got them excited as kids are the same things they text each other about now, which is exactly why a reading program wrapped in 90s vibes and pizza was an immediate yes. As a senior millennial, I understood the impulse completely.
Her four kids read in four completely different ways, which any parent of more than one totally understands. Miles (8), her biggest reader, goes nonstop, plowing through Dog Man and the I Survived series in the car and on the way to camp because he loves facts more than almost anything. Luna (10), her oldest, is aging into book reports, summer reading lists, and the very specific social world of tween reading, where friends race through the same book so they can all watch the adaptation together. Then there are the littles. Esti (3) is deep in Madeline and The Very Impatient Caterpillar, which Teigen reads aloud in full character voices while the caterpillar keeps asking "am I a **** erfly yet?" and everyone shouts back, no. Wren (3), whom she affectionately calls "a much simpler man," wants Little Blue Truck and a "beep beep" on every page.

Antrim manager Elaine Dowds hailed the "resilience" of her players, who rebounded from some turbulent times to book a return to camogie's senior grade for 2027 with victory over Laois in Sunday's All-Ireland Intermediate final.
Dowds was ousted as team manager after the 2023 season when Antrim reached a senior quarter-final, which led to disquiet in the camp and resulted in Brian Kearney and Mark McFadden stepping down prior to the start of the 2024 league.
Carl McCormick and Martin Coulter stepped in but the Saffrons would suffer Championship relegation and while they recovered last term to win promotion to Division 1A of the league, they were pipped at the semi-final stage of the Intermediate Championship by Offaly.
With Dowds back at the helm, Antrim finished the job this time around as they pulled clear in the second half with the Dunloy native delighted her players got their reward for staying the course.
"It's been a long time coming," Dowds told RTE Sport.

A first senior Scotland call-up followed at age 20, when she won her first cap against Northern Ireland in February 2015.
Chloe then spent a year in Edinburgh with Hibernian, where she was part of the side that reached the 2015 Scottish Cup final.
She moved to Bristol City in English football's second tier in 2016, where her decade long spell down south began by scoring on her debut before going on to win promotion with the Robins.

Leeds have confirmed the signing of James Trafford from Manchester City for an undisclosed club record fee, reported to be £40 million ($53.8 million) plus bonuses.
Trafford has agreed a five-year contract, while the deal eclipses the £36 million Leeds paid Hoffenheim for Georginio Rutter in January 2023 and also makes him the world's fourth most expensive goalkeeper.
Kepa Arrizabalaga (Athletic Bilbao to Chelsea for £72 million), Alisson Becker (Roma to Liverpool, £67 million) and Andre Onana (Inter Milan to Manchester United, £47.2 million) are the only keepers to have cost more.
"Leeds United are delighted to confirm the signing of James Trafford," the club said in a statement.
"The 23-year-old England international arrives as our third permanent addition of the summer transfer window, after the acquisitions of Harry Wilson and Tarik Muharemovic, and becomes the most expensive British goalkeeper in history."

Cricket South Africa (CSA) on Thursday revised the schedule for the India women's team's tour later this year by adding a three-match T20I series to the itinerary, alongside the already scheduled one-off Test and three ODIs.
Under the revised schedule, the one-off Test will be played from December 9 to 12, followed by the ODI series from December 16 to 22.
India will now stay in South Africa for an extra week to play the three T20Is from December 26 to 30.
The T20I series will be held in Benoni and Potchefstroom. CSA believes the additional matches will help both teams prepare for the inaugural ICC Women's Champions Trophy, which will be played in Sri Lanka in February.
"We are delighted to confirm the revised schedule for India's tour of South Africa, with the addition of the T20 International series over the festive period, ensuring our Proteas Women have the best possible preparation ahead of the inaugural ICC Women's Champions Trophy in Sri Lanka early next year," Pholetsi Moseki, the CSA CEO, said in a statement.
"India remain one of the strongest teams in world cricket, and the opportunity to compete against them across all three formats will provide invaluable competition as we continue building towards another major ICC event," said Moseki.
India last toured South Africa in March-April this year for a five-match T20I series, which they lost 1-4.
The two teams met again at the T20 World Cup in England, where South Africa defeated India, affecting India's chances of reaching the semifinals.

Manchester United have announced a new multi-year training kit sponsorship deal with Betway which the club say is the biggest of its kind in world football.
United have not disclosed the terms of the deal but Super Group, which owns the Betway brand, will reportedly pay £20 million ($26.8 million) per season to have their logo on the training kit of both United's men's and women's teams, as well as around Old Trafford and the Progress with Unity Stadium on matchdays.
United went without a training kit partner last season after the expiry of their agreement with blockchain platform Tezos in June 2025, but their return to the Champions League has allowed them to secure more lucrative terms than might otherwise have been available.
The new deal for the training kit sponsorship comes into effect at the same time as new Premier League regulations that prevent gambling companies from appearing on the front of matchday shirts from next season.
Announcing the deal, United's chief business officer Marc Armstrong said: "We are delighted to welcome Betway as official principal partner.
