World number four Felix Auger-Aliassime will be playing for local pride when the ATP Montreal Masters begins on Sunday in his hometown.
The Canadian returns as second seed to a tournament he attended frequently as a budding young player, when he used to watch and study his sporting idols up close in training between matches.
"There were several times when I didn't have a ticket, so I would watch all the training sessions," he said on Saturday at the event, where he is seeded behind Roland Garros winner and Wimbledon runner-up Alexander Zverev.
"I learned even more things during training since they (fans) have the chance to be very, very close to the players."
Auger-Aliassime recently split with his longtime coach of 10 years, Frederic Fontang, after losing a frustrating Wimbledon five-set quarter-final to Novak Djokovic.

Cape Verde is a footballing nation that's on the rise. Fresh from making history at their first men's World Cup, the Cape Verde's women's side broke new ground on Wednesday as they made their WAFCON debut.
Whilst a 2-0 defeat against Ghana wasn't the fairytale start they were hoping for, it was another sizeable milestone in the story of Cape Verdean football. The journey to Morocco 2026 hasn't happened by chance, however. It's the product of a long process that is starting to yield tangible results for the Blue Sharks. The man responsible for overseeing this plan, and much more, is Rui Costa, the national technical director of the Cape Verde Football Federation.
Costa might well be the hardest-working person in show business. "My role covers coach education, talent development, youth football, women's football, and the implementation of long-term technical projects in close collaboration with FIFA, CAF, and other international partners," he tells me. His all-encompassing role also includes "ensuring that our player development pathway is aligned with a clear football philosophy and a sustainable vision for the future."
By his own admission, the role is more than a point of professional pride. It's the culmination of a dream. Costa's journey reflects that of many of the national team players. Leaving the country to pursue increased opportunities before returning home to put those experiences into practice.
"I spent many years in England, where I built my entire coaching career. England gave me the opportunity to become the coach and person I am today. Every morning, I genuinely say, 'Thank you, England.' The experiences, the people, and the football culture shaped me professionally and personally. I learned an incredible amount from English football, and I will always be grateful to the English Football ******* ociation, the clubs I worked with, and everyone who contributed to my journey."

Indiana Fever guard Sophie Cunningham thrust herself into the headlines over the past few days after she spoke out against transgender women competing in women's sports. Needless to say, her comments did not go over well with Portland Fire fans.
During Friday night's game between the Fever and the Fire, Portland fans made their thoughts quite clear as they booed Cunningham and waved trans pride flags throughout the stands.
During a recent interview for an ESPN profile, Cunningham was asked about the "MAGA Barbie" nickname that has followed her in recent months, stemming from ******* umptions some people have made about her political views.
"I got a lot of negative feedback about me hating trans. And I'm like, 'I never once said that,'" she told ESPN. "I think that I am here to extend love. But I also think with that love is truth, being honest. And I want to protect young girls in a locker room, or young girls in sport who shouldn't have to go against biological men."
A few days later, Cunningham doubled down on this stance.

For the fourth consecutive day in St. Joe, Kansas City Chiefs players, coaches and fans were treated to a cool morning; this practice was breezy but sunny, and lasted roughly two hours.
The team is looking ahead to a rest day on Sunday before the pads come on Monday. Here's everything to know from Arrowhead Pride's in-person observations of Saturday's practice:
Jared Sapp has the details on rookie wide receiver Cyrus Allen's mid-practice injury that drew a loud gasp from the crowd watching. It happened during punt team.
With defensive end Ashton Gillotte unavailable due to a strained hamstring he suffered during Friday's practice, fourth-year player Felix Anudike-Uzomah stepped up to play more with the starting defense on Saturday.
As practice began, the first-team unit walked through different formations. Most notable was this year's first look at Dime personnel, the defensive formation with six defensive backs, one linebacker and four pass-rushing threats up front.

The Manchester Bee has been part of the DNA of our city for almost 200 years and is an iconic symbol for Mancunians.
Club News
Stylish, striking and a source of great pride, the first official ******* ociation came when Manchester was granted its coat of arms in 1842, with seven bees placed on a globe above the shield.
The bee – specifically the worker bee – conveys the city's industry, togetherness and hard work, while the globe reflected Manchester's importance as a global trading city.
During the Industrial Revolution, Manchester took the lead in terms of mass production leading to comparisons with the worker bee and the hive of activity, with factories filled with hard working individuals that helped make the city into not only a northern powerhouse, but a world industry leader during the 19th century.

Manchester City launched their new away kit on a floating pitch at the picturesque setting of the harbour in Hong Kong.
Phil Foden, Abdukodir Khusanov and Ryan McAidoo were on stage in front of scores of fans before revealing the black and yellow Puma kit, which is finished with a swarm of worker bees - a nod to one of Manchester's most recognisable symbols.
City say the bee signifies the "graft, unity and resilience that define the city" with the kit "reinforcing a shared commitment to the city, its people and the authentic connection between the club and the communities that surround it".
Puma vice president Dominique Gauthier said: "This kit is about giving Manchester City players a shirt that performs at the highest level while carrying real meaning for the city and its fans.
"We wanted every detail to reflect the identity of this club and the culture around it. It's a shirt built for the pitch but made to be worn with pride well beyond it."

OXNARD, Calif. (AP) — When Dak Prescott arrived at training camp Tuesday, he wore a vintage t-shirt celebrating the Dallas Cowboys' last Super Bowl win as a statement of intent.
After 10 years in the NFL without a meaningful playoff run for an organization that has not claimed a championship since after the 1995 season, their star quarterback is ready to end those droughts through his deeds, words, and even wardrobe choices.
"To go into training camp and to go into the season to say that those are our goals, I mean, it'd be stupid or we'd be remiss not to own that, and take accountability in that, and take pride in saying this is what we want to be and what we want to do," Prescott said Thursday.
Prescott admitted to being "definitely less patient" when it comes to the lack of postseason success, his angst rising after missing the playoffs each of the past two campaigns. He has a 2-5 record in playoff games and never reached an NFC championship game, something the Cowboys have not done over the previous 30 seasons.
However, Prescott believes the pieces are in place for the organization to move past those struggles. He expects a potent offense to be even better in its second season under head coach Brian Schottenheimer by benefitting from improved continuity on the offensive line and further growth from the pairing of standout wide receivers CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens in their the second year together.

Another domino has fallen for Victory+: On Thursday, the NWSL became the latest to cut ties with the streaming platform. In a statement, the NWSL announced that it had "terminated" its agreement with Victory+ "effective immediately."
The move comes as Victory+ has experienced reported financial difficulties, leading multiple teams to pull out of their deals. The NWSL severed the partnership after less than a year following a missed rights payment, per multiple reports.
Per the statement, games on Victory+ will instead be shown on the league's free direct-to-consumer platform NWSL+ starting this weekend. Sunday's match between the Utah Royals and the Portland Thorns will be the first to reflect this change.
In addition to the NWSL, five individual clubs (Bay FC, Washington Spirit, Orlando Pride, Gotham FC and Angel City FC) have regional deals with Victory+; the Pride and Bay both announced on Thursday that those agreements have been terminated, with Awful Announcing reporting that Gotham will make a similar announcement on Friday.
The NWSL becomes the latest to pull out of Victory+ amid the platform's ongoing financial troubles. On July 15, the Texas Rangers announced that the franchise would be switching from Victory+ to BZZR for all local broadcasts.

We asked for your views on the news that manager Eddie Howe is set to leave the club with immediate effect after almost five years in charge.
Here are some of your comments:
Ben: Eddie Howe gave Newcastle its spark back - hauling the club out of the relegation scrap, delivering that unforgettable Champions League return, rebuilding players who looked finished, and serving up some of the most fearless football St James' Park has seen in years. His time was full of graft, pride and proper memories, and whatever comes next, he's earned every bit of respect in Newcastle. Local hero.
Roger: This is a total disaster. For years Eddie Howe has been the cool headed master tactician and inspiration of the club's success. He will be difficult to replace. Right now Newcastle look like a serious relegation prospect.

According to ESPN's Eric Woodyard, Gibbs, who did report to training camp, did not take part in the team's first practice on Wednesday.
Gibbs' absence, which is not believed to be injury-related, according to Jeremy Reisman of Pride of Detroit, comes amid he and the Lions trying to hammer out a contract extension.
"(Gibbs) was not listed on the team's Physically Unable to Perform or Non-Football-Injury list to start camp, suggesting his absence is not injury related," Reisman wrote.

Zinédine Zidane is the new manager of the French national team after signing a contract until 2030.
France finished fourth at the 2026 World Cup under Didier Deschamps, losing 6-4 in a remarkable third-place play-off to England after having been defeated at the semi-final stage by eventual winners Spain.
"I've often said it: there's nothing greater than the French National Team," the former player said on his appointment.
"It is therefore a joy and, of course, a great source of pride to become the manager of this French National Team. It's also a responsibility. I want to thank [FFF] President Philippe Diallo, the Executive Committee, and the French Football Federation for their confidence and acknowledge the fourteen years of service from Didier and his staff. I also have a special thought today for all my coaches.
"Needless to say, I have high ambitions for the French National Team."

On being appointed, he said it was "a great source of pride" to lead the French national side following their fourth-place finish at the World Cup.

We are deep into the offseason for the Ohio State basketball team, but the incoming freshmen have joined the fray and are going through workouts with all of the other pieces that have returned or were a part of the transfer portal haul. One of those freshmen is guard Alex Smith, a local product just a few miles from campus in Upper Arlington.
Many know about five-star freshman Anthony Thompson, but Smith is a bit of an unknown to most casual OSU fans, so the Ohio State Hoops X account decided to share a short video for you to get to know the 6-foot, 9-inch, power forward with a deft shooting touch.
"Alex showed up on campus ready to work. The one thing I know about Alex is his shooting will translate from Day 1," Ohio State head coach Jake Diebler said ... "I love the fact that Alex is from close by. He's a Buckeye fan. Has been his entire life, and this program means something to him, and you can't have too much of that in your locker room."
Buckeye Nation should expect a high-energy, high-character player who can shoot the ball and has a high IQ," Smith said about himself ... "Growing up just down the street, it means a lot to be a Buckeye. I know what it takes to be a Buckeye, and I know the basketball fan base was always really strong, so it really does mean a lot. I take pride in being a Buckeye."
It's great that Ohio State is sharing these videos to give Ohio State fans a taste of what the newcomers are all about as they begin their careers in Columbus. We're sure there will be more, and as they are dropped, we'll have them for you.

New York Liberty star guard Sabrina Ionescu clarified on July 22 that she never officially received an invitation to defend her ******* le in this year’s WNBA 3-point Contest and was surprised by reports that it was her choice not to participate.
In a press conference ahead of WNBA All-Star weekend, Ionescu said she was blindsided by media headlines suggesting she had declined an offer to participate. She emphasized her eagerness to compete whenever given the opportunity, but reiterated that she could not turn down an invitation she never received.
“I can’t decline an offer that I officially didn’t get invited to,” Ionescu said. “So I was pretty surprised to see that. Never got invited. Whether it's against Steph Curry or in the W, I always go out and try to beat my record every single time I step onto the court. I take pride in competing at the highest level, and I love representing the Liberty and the league in these contests. I just wanted to set the record straight – that rumor was simply false.”
Though she isn’t taking part in this year’s contest, Ionescu said she was excited to watch the event and to see who will become the new champion.
To Ionescu’s claim that she never received an invite, the WNBA responded with a statement saying, “Our general process is to reach out to agents to determine a player's interest, and some accept and some decline."

Five-star running back David Gabriel Georges has something to say after his high-profile recruitment that ultimately resulted in him choosing Tennessee over Ohio State. To say that it was a hotly debated and fiery recruiting process is probably not doing it justice, and Gabriel Georges would like things to be better for others in the same position in the future, it appears.
There were some premature reports, rumors being reported as fact, and some pretty nasty comments made by fan bases throughout the process, and whether you like it or not, the words Gabriel Georges posted on his X account Thursday might be worth considering. Here's what he had to say in his post on social media:
"First and foremost, I give all glory to God for His countless blessings and for faithfully guiding me throughout this journey. Without Him, I wouldn't be where I am today, wrote Gabriel Georges.
"I also want to express my sincere gratitude to my family, friends, coaches, teammates, mentors, and everyone who has supported and encouraged me along the way. Your belief in me, your guidance, and your unwavering support have meant more than words can express, and I will always be grateful.
"I also feel it is important to address something. What should have been one of the most meaningful and joyful moment of my life has, at times, been overshadowed by negative media coverage, false narratives, and unfair ***** umptions about both my character and my family. I understand the passion, excitement, and pride that college football inspires, and I have great respect for every fan base and every program involved in this process. However, any form of harassment, and the spread of misinformation is simply unnecessary and uncalled for.

We're wrapping up the regular season in Silver and Black Pride's Mendoza Mania series, diving into film breakdowns for each of Fernando Mendoza's games during his last College Football season, and looking at Indiana's dominant 56-3 win over in-state rival Purdue.
However, this was the Las Vegas Raiders' new quarterback's worst performance of a passer from last year, going eight for 15 (53.3% completions) with 117 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions. The latter is misleading, though.
Pro Football Focus had him on the hook for three "turnover-worthy plays" at a 17.6 percent rate, his most TWPs and highest rate (by over 12 percent) on the year. Also, the 2026 NFL draft No. 1 pick didn't account for any "big-time throws" and posted his lowest PFF passing grade (28.3) of the season by more than 20 points against the Boilermakers.
So, fair warning, this breakdown is going to be more negative than positive, as it looked like the Heisman Trophy winner was pressing and forced a handful of throws.
This was Mendoza's first pass of the game and, in a way, set a precursor for how the rest of the night went for him.

Wolves striker Tolu Arokodare has hit out at “inaccurate” reports that he forced training to be cancelled by refusing to leave the pitch.
It was suggested that Arokodare had sat down at the club’s training ground on Monday and demanded that they let him move to Fiorentina.
Arokodare was left out of Wednesday’s friendly against Maidenhead United by new manager Cesar Peixoto, with Wolves reported to have accepted an offer from Trabzonspor in Turkey – but rejected a possible deal with Fiorentina.
Arokodare signed for £24m from Genk last summer and scored three times in his first campaign as Wolves were relegated from the Premier League.
"I was very surprised and disappointed to see the media reports today, many of which were inaccurate,” Arokodare posted on social media. “Throughout my career, I have always taken great pride in conducting myself professionally and maintaining the highest training standards.

For hundreds of thousands of student athletes, college sports are an opportunity. Sports are a means to a better life because they teach young men and women the traits that are necessary to succeed as adults – grit, work ethic, self-discipline and teamwork.
Student athletes often must train before sunrise, balance full academic schedules and compete for their teammates, their schools and the communities that stand behind them.
At a time when Americans are divided on so many issues, seeing young men and women mature through sports is one thing that unites and inspires us. College sports remain a rare tradition that still brings people together.
On fall Saturdays during football season, college towns come alive. Stands fill with school colors, marching bands echo through the afternoon air, and thousands of families, friends and alumni return to campus, carrying decades of pride and history into every rivalry game.
Yet the foundation that has sustained college athletics is beginning to crack.

While much of the attention surrounding Bayern Munich’s front office has centered on player transfers and squad planning, another important piece of the club’s future could soon be addressed behind the scenes.
According to a report from Sport Bild (as captured by iMiaSanMia), sporting director Christoph Freund is in an excellent position to earn a contract extension. Although his current deal runs through 2027, decisions regarding his future will be made by Bayern Munich’s executive board — Jan-Christian Dreesen, Max Eberl, and Rouven Kasper — rather than the club’s supervisory board. That confidence appears to be well deserved:
Christoph Freund’s contract also expires in 2027. His future is not decided by the supervisory board, but by the executive board (Dreesen, Eberl & Rouven Kasper). Freund has extremely good prospects of a new contract. His work with the first team and the Campus, where he has been given more responsibility, is highly valued at the club.
Since arriving at Bayern Munich, Freund has become an increasingly important figure within the club’s sporting structure. While much of his work has focused on supporting the first team alongside Eberl, his responsibilities have expanded beyond the senior squad. His involvement with Bayern’s Campus and youth development system has reportedly been particularly well received, reflecting the club’s continued emphasis on building a sustainable pipeline of talent.
That dual role is significant. Bayern Munich has long prided itself on balancing immediate success with long-term planning, and having executives who can oversee both first-team recruitment and player development is critical to achieving that balance. Freund’s growing influence suggests the club sees him as an important part of that vision.

FC Bayern is lighting up its Allianz Arena in the colours of Disability Pride Month, which is taking place for the first time in Munich, from 21-23:00 CEST on Friday. Red represents physical disabilities, yellow stands for cognitive disabilities, white signifies invisible disabilities, blue symbolises mental illnesses, green represents sensory disabilities and black is in memory of people who died due to discrimination. It’s a visible sign of respect, self-determination and an inclusive society. Together with the state capital of Munich, the German champions are sending out a clear signal: people with disabilities are, of course, an integral part of society – including in sport and in the stadium.
“FC Bayern stands for diversity and does a lot to raise awareness of the lives of people with disabilities,” explained disability officer Kim Krämer. “The club has been carrying out various inclusion-focused projects for many years. The fact that FC Bayern and the City of Munich are now sending out a visible sign in Disability Pride Month is another step on the road towards a natural coexistence. The illumination of the Allianz Arena is a strong signal that everyone belongs at FC Bayern, and that they can get involved and help to shape the club – regardless of disability.”
FC Bayern is constantly working on making the Allianz Arena and its general offerings as accessible as possible, in consultation with the fans. For example, there are now 324 wheelchair ******* es in the stadium, as well as commentary for the blind, a delivery service to the seats, live subtitles for people with hearing impairment and the presentation of the line-ups in sign language for men’s, women’s and basketball matches on the website. Information in simple language also makes it easier for people to find their way around. The club is continuously optimising its digital offerings to enable as many people as possible to access them independently.
