England midfielder Jordan Henderson has joined Chelsea on a two-year deal after after his contract with Brentford was mutually terminated.
Henderson, 36, captained Liverpool to the Premier League ***** le in 2019-20 and also won the Champions League, FA Cup, League Cup twice, the Uefa Super Cup and the Fifa Club World Cup in his time at Anfield.
In 2023 he moved to Saudi Arabian club Al-Ettifaq, before joining Dutch side Ajax in January 2024, and returned to the Premier League with Brentford last summer, making 32 top-flight appearances in 2025-26.
"Given the size of the club, the manager [Xabi Alonso] who I have great admiration for, and the quality of the players, this was a huge opportunity I couldn't turn down," said Henderson.

Borussia Dortmund have officially completed the signing of Greek international Konstantinos Karetsas from Belgian side KRC Genk. Karetsas gets set to begin the Bundesliga chapter of his career after signing a five-year contract with the Bundesliga runners-up through June 30, 2031. Kicker reports that Dortmund are paying a guaranteed transfer fee of €30m, with realistically attainable bonuses capable of increasing the package to €32m.

Reid ended up in Amsterdam to take in the four-team tournament involving Ajax, Barcelona, United, and Parma, while keeping a particular eye on Parma's French midfielder Johan Micoud.

They will be joined in the next round of the competition by FC Twente, who ended up losing out in the Europa League to Hungarian side Ferencvaros. Despite the hosts being down to 10 men, FC Twente were unable to capitalise and will now drop down a competition.

Ajax and FC Twente got their European qualification campaigns up and running on Thursday evening. After a poor Eredivisie season, Ajax find themselves having to go through the Conference League qualifiers, while FC Twente are in the Europa League qualification rounds.
FC Twente hosted Hungarian giants Ferencvaros and came undone at the hands of Hattian forward Lenny Joseph. After around 15 minutes, Joseph had given the away side the lead. Twente did get back into the game before half-time, with defender Aske Adelgaard scoring on his debut for the club. However, with 10 minutes to go, Joseph grabbed his second. Twente now have to travel to Hungary and turn things around, by no means an easy task. However, should they lose, they will drop into the Conference League.
Ajax will likely be in the same round should Twente fail to make it through. The Amsterdam club travelled to Serbia to face Vojvodina and came away with a resounding victory. Davy Klaassen gave Ajax an early lead, only for Peter Sukacev to equalise before the half hour mark. Parity did not last long, with Steven Berghuis giving Ajax the lead. The 20-year-old Frenchman, who played his first senior game in August 2025, is due on Tyneside on Thursday to have a medical and sign a long-term contract.

Mike Verweij of De Telegraaf is reporting that Ajax are set to bring in Diego Pugno from Juventus on loan. The Amsterdam club have also agreed a purchase option of just €1m with Juventus for the 20-year-old. It appears that, initially at least, Pugno will play for Jong Ajax in the second tier of Dutch football. The young Juventus forward looks to be the latest signing by Jordi Cruijff who has been incredibly active at Ajax already this summer.
Pugno has spent most of his time in recent seasons with the Juventus youth teams, although he did play one game for the side during the 2024/2025 season. He will join a Jong Ajax side that finished last season in 20th place with just 35 points from 38 games. The side only managed nine wins and conceded 73 goals in that time. New Newcastle signing Sean Steur says it is an "incredible feeling" to sign for a "giant club" after his £23m move from Ajax was confirmed.
Midfielder Steur, 18, has become the third player aged 20 and under the Magpies have bought in so far this summer after Bazoumana Toure and Ewen Jaouen.
He has signed a five-year contract until 2031.
"It was always my dream to play in the best league in the world, so this is really exciting," Steur told club media.
"I was at home at Ajax – I joined when I was seven and I leave with only good memories - but when a club like Newcastle comes for you, it's really hard to say no. The last few days have gone fast and I'm very happy to join."
