The House of Representatives passed a resolution condemning socialism on Tuesday evening, with all but eight House Democrats voting against it.
In a stunning twist of fate, however, the vote would not have occurred if two House Democrats hadn't stepped in hours earlier to help the GOP through a procedural hurdle — blindsiding House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, D-N.Y., in the process.
Jeffries later threatened consequences for the pair in a dramatic statement late on Tuesday night, calling their move a "breach of trust."
The resolution passed 220 to 192 with all "no" votes coming from the left, including Democrats' senior leaders: House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, D-N.Y., House Minority Whip Katherine Clark, D-Mass., and House Democratic Caucus Chair Pete Aguilar, D-Calif.

Last week J'Mari Taylor made his case for making the Jacksonville Jaguars roster as an undrafted free agent rookie with his performance against the New Orleans Saints, rushing for 78 yards, the most by a Jags running back in a preseason game in 11 years.
Ameer Abdullah has now thrown his performance in a 34-17 loss to the Carolina Panthers on Aug. 21 at EverBank Stadium on the table, strengthening his bid to make the team as a 12-year veteran.
The final running back spot on the roster could well come down to those two players, separated by nine years in age, a lifetime in terms of NFL experience but not much difference in their desire to be in uniform on opening day Sept. 13 against Cleveland, or in their work ethic.
That's why the decision might be so difficult for the Jaguars' staff.
Until Joey Aguilar threw a 29-yard TD pass to Trebor Pena with 3:12 left in the game, Abdullah was the lone offensive bright spot for the Jaguars, rushing for 45 yards on six carries and catching three passes for 37 yards, all in the first half. Abdullah had one run of 23 yards that left Carolina defender Chau Smith-Wade searching for his ankles and he had pass receptions of 18 and 11 yards.

Following the Jacksonville Jaguars' first preseason game, let's take a temperature check on where several key positional battles now stand.
As far as the overall evaluation process goes when it comes to determining playing time, roles, and who makes the final roster, it's been a big few days, with the joint practice and preseason game likely carrying more weight.
From the outside looking in, here is where things seem to stand.
Based on playing time in the preseason game, Carter Bradley seems to have the advantage over Joey Aguilar.
Not that we needed any more proof, but Tanner Koziol is very much ahead of Quintin Morris and Hunter Long on the depth chart.

Tennessee opened fall training camp on Wednesday at Haslam Field in preparation for its sixth football season under head coach Josh Heupel.
The Vols held a 17-period individual workout on the first day of fall camp.
"Really good work today on the grass as we start this on-field journey," Heupel said after Tennessee's first practice. "A lot of fundamental work here, early part of training camp. The first couple days, obviously, that continues throughout, but big emphasis on that here today and good to get out there with the guys."
The Vols also have a starting quarterback competition to replace Joey Aguilar from last season.
Early enrollee freshman Brandon Faizon, sophomore George MacIntyre, sophomore Mason Phillips and senior Ryan Staub from Colorado are on roster during fall camp.

After finishing the college football season 8-5 last year, it's back to the drawing board for the Tennessee Volunteers.
There's plenty of turnover for the Vols entering 2026, including quarterback Joey Aguilar, who was denied a waiver to compete for an additional season.
Nonetheless, Tennessee is sure to be strong on defense at the very least with new defensive coordinator Jim Knowles as the offense looks to find a rhythm with one of its freshman quarterbacks.

MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred is pushing a cap system for the league, something that hasn't occurred since 1994. The question is, why now? (Photo by Julio Aguilar/Getty Images)
Major League Baseball has yet to hit the All-Star break in the 2026 season, and already the league and MLB Players ****** ociation are locked in a battle over whether the league’s desire for a salary cap system will be part of the next collective bargaining agreement when the current one expires on December 1st. The big question is, why now?
In 1994, the league’s owners first sought a salary cap. The impending strike by the players over the issue canceled all of the 1994 postseason, including the World Series. After 232 days, on April 2, 1995, it concluded after then U.S. District Court Judge Sonia Sotomayor issued an injunction blocking team owners from unilaterally implementing the elimination of free agency and salary arbitration. While there has been no attempt at going after a cap system since then, it has always remained something that the owners have wanted.
Now, the league is seeking a hard cap system that sees elements of the NFL and NBA systems. While there have been early proposals by the league, there will inevitably be more. Here are the reasons why the cap is being pushed for now, and how the MLBPA has responded to it.
While one can debate that the problem in MLB is as much at the bottom of the payroll spectrum as at the top, the reality is that there is a significant gap. For 2025, the Dodgers had a Luxury Tax payroll of $417,341,608 compared to just $86,926,975, a staggering gap of $330,414,633.

2026 will mark the third season with 16 Southeastern Conference teams after Oklahoma and Texas became league members in 2024.
Each league school will have three permanent opponents and six rotating opponents for the next four years. Beginning in 2026, Tennessee will play Alabama, Kentucky and Vanderbilt as permanent opponents.
The Vols enter their 2026 campaign with a quarterback battle to replace Joey Aguilar.
During spring practices, Tennessee had four quarterbacks on roster: early enrollee freshman Brandon Faizon, redshirt freshman George MacIntyre, redshirt freshman Mason Phillips and redshirt junior transfer Ryan Staub from Colorado.
“Don't expect a guy to be named here during the course of spring ball," Tennessee head coach Josh Heupel said during spring practices in naming a starting quarterback. "I think it's important that all the guys in that room learn and grow throughout the course of spring, also have a chance to go back in your summer months, digest it, reinstall and come back a much better player, and compete and earn it in front of their teammates as you get into training camp."

MEXICO CITY, July 2 (Reuters) - Amid the sea of green that washed over Mexico City after the country's World Cup victory over Ecuador on Tuesday, one shop defiantly hoisted the Ecuadorian flag and welcomed all the downtrodden fans of Mexico's opponents to a place of refuge.
Welcome to the Losers Cafe, a coffee shop in the cosmopolitan neighbourhood of Condesa that is comforting fans of the losing teams.
Each morning, small flags representing the defeated teams are raised at the cafe's entrance to foster a sense of community. Inside, a free drink awaits those who come bearing the jersey of the losing team. Even the napkins read "dry your tears".
Monse Aguilar, a 24-year-old photographer supporting South Africa, visited the Losers Cafe earlier this week after her team lost 1-0 to Canada on Sunday and were eliminated from the World Cup.

Almost 200,000 Ecuadorians and Ecuadorian Americans live in New York City, and last week quite a lot of them were in a Brooklyn restaurant called El Encebollado de Victor to watch their football team take on Germany – a traditional World Cup powerhouse.
It made for quite a sight: a sea of yellow shirts under the restaurant’s blue roof, which had been adorned with red, blue and yellow balloons for the occasion. Among the most patriotically dressed was Luis Aguilar, 45, who was born in the US to parents who had emigrated from Ecuador.
Aguilar was wearing an Ecuador jersey, an Ecuador scarf, and a straw hat with the Ecuador colors and Ecuador written on the front. He had an Ecuador flag tied around his neck, and was with a dog called Jax who was also wearing a flag.
As the match, held in New Jersey, began, it was clear there was a good turnout of Ecuadorians in the stadium too: yellow shirts were everywhere, and the country’s national anthem, ¡Salve, Oh Patria! was belted out in the stadium and in the restaurant.
“It’s very fascinating. I have not seen this many Ecuadorians in one place [the stadium] probably ever,” Aguilar said.

ST PETERSBURG, FLORIDA - Jonny DeLuca of the Tampa Bay Rays reacts after hitting a two-run home run in the seventh inning against the Washington Nationals at Tropicana Field on June 21, 2026 in St Petersburg, Florida. (Photo by Julio Aguilar/Getty Images)
Home sweet dome. Tropicana Field has been just that for the Tampa Bay Rays so far in 2026. At 26-10 (.722), the club has MLB’s best home record and equaled its second-best 36-game mark inside the friendly confines.
“The fan base has really rallied behind us the entire season,” said first baseman Jonathan Aranda, following Friday night’s 5-2 win over the visiting Nationals. “Thankfully, we have been playing really well. You just want to do your part and put on a good show for the fans.”
The Rays have been doing their part while putting on a good show. After Saturday’s 4-3 loss, they rebounded to win Sunday afternoon’s game by the same score and take the three-game series. Rays’ pitchers allowed five homers during the series, though each was of the solo variety. The pitching did not walk a batter in the first two games and yielded only nine runs overall against MLB’s highest-scoring team.
“We pitched very well,” said manager Kevin Cash, whose club heads into a new week in second place and two games behind the New York Yankees in the American League East. “That is a very good offense (we faced.) They have a bunch of guys that can make contact and put pressure on the defense with their speed, and they have a couple of guys that can put the ball out of the ballpark.”

Oscar Collazo isn't defending his ****** les Saturday night. He's not even fighting in his own division.
After visa problems took out both Joey Canoy and a proposed Mexican replacement, Luis Castillo, this week, late addition Neider Valdez Aguilar wasn't ranked highly enough for either the WBA or WBO to sanction a true 105-pound ****** le fight. Rather than pull the plug on the entire card, promoters restructured the bout at flyweight, 112 pounds, two divisions above where Collazo has spent his entire reign as champion.
It's the first time since his third pro fight in 2021 that Collazo has stepped outside minimumweight. The WBO slapped its International flyweight ****** le on the bout to give it some sanctioning weight, though that's a secondary belt, not a genuine world championship. The WBA didn't bother.
Both fighters weighed in comfortably under the 112-pound limit Friday, Collazo at 110.5, Valdez at 111.25.
The real motivation here isn't championship stakes. It's making sure a seven-fight card and its undercard fighters still get paid after a week of visa chaos nearly blew the whole thing up.

Should Tennessee Football QB Joey Aguilar really be the favorite to start for Vols this year?
