Jean Silva will now take on a rising contender instead at UFC Fight Night 288.
Silva (17-3 MMA, 6-1 UFC) was originally scheduled to headline Noche UFC against former interim featherweight champion Yair Rodriguez, but an injury forced Rodriguez out of the bout. After suffering his first octagon loss to two-time **** le challenger Diego Lopes, Silva rebounded with a unanimous decision win over Arnold Allen at UFC 324.
Dana White's Contender Series graduate Delgado (12-2 MMA, 4-1 UFC) has won nine of his past 10 fights. Nathaniel Wood put an end to his win streak, but the 28-year-old rebounded with back-to-back wins over Andre Fili, and Austin Bashi.
According to Caesars, Silva is a -450 favorite to beat Delgado, who is a +350 underdog.

Noche UFC, the mixed martial arts and fighting promotion's celebration of Latinos in the sport set for Glendale, Arizona, on Sept. 12, has adjusted its main event due to an injury.
José Delgado is in the main event of Noche UFC after Yair Rodriguez pulled out due to an injury, Rodriguez said in an Instagram post on Wednesday, Aug. 19. Delgado faces Jean Silva in a featherweight bout at Desert Diamond Arena.
Rodriguez (21-5-0) has not fought much over the past two years, and now it looks like he will have to wait until 2027 to fight again.
"I wanted this fight, and I know many of you did too," he said in Spanish on Instagram. "Now my job is to fully recover and return ready to compete at the level you expect of me and that I expect of myself."
Delgado, from Mexico, is 4-1 and has been in UFC for only about a year and a half. He made his professional MMA debut in March 2022.

The UFC has a busy month scheduled for August. The fight promotion is set to hold five events on five Saturday's with only one of those fight cards taking place in Las Vegas. That Vegas show, UFC Vegas 120 takes place on Saturday, August 8 at the Meta Apex. WWE SummerSlam 2026 emanates from Minneapolis, Minn. this weekend, and betting odds suggest that most WWE champions will walk out of US Bank Stadium with their ***** les in tow—with the exception of one champion.
Chad Gable is a heavy favorite to dethrone Penta and win his first WWE Intercontinental Championship in his hometown of Minneapolis at WWE's biggest show of the summer. Gable is set to compete on Night 2 of SummerSlam where he will join fellow Minnesotan Brock Lesnar as amateur wrestlers with a hometown advantage, though Brock will compete against Oba Femi on Night 1.
Gable has enjoyed a redemption arc ever since coming up short in the 2026 Match of the Year against El Grande Americano (Ludwig Kaiser) at El Noche de los Grandes for the right to don the sacred mask and namesake. Gable's performance jumpstarted his up-and-down career, and was even replayed on Netflix following the June 1 broadcast of WWE Raw. With his heel persona behind him, and after conquering the dark arts of lucha libre, an unmasked Gable has made amends with Alpha Academy and former lucha opps like Rey Mysterio, Dragon Lee and Penta, whom Gable will challenge for the IC ***** le after winning a No. 1 Contender's Gauntlet on WWE Raw.
Gable finds himself as the biggest favorite of Night 2 with -1500 odds per BetOnline, while Lesnar is the biggest underdog of either night with +900 odds to topple Oba Femi (-3000) in their rubber match inside ***** in a Cell.

Jose Delgado is ready to test himself against higher-ranked opposition.
Delgado (12-2 MMA, 4-1 UFC) thinks it's time to get a bigger name following his latest win. The MMA Lab product beat fellow featherweight prospect Austin Bashi (14-2 MMA, 1-2 UFC) with a unanimous decision this past Saturday on the UFC Fight Night 281 preliminary card in Oklahoma City. The win gave Delgado a two-fight winning streak after a decision loss to veteran Nathaniel Wood.
"I've always rated Nathaniel Wood very highly," Delgado told MMA Junkie. "I think he's a guy who hasn't gotten the opportunities to move up the ranking, but I think skill for skill he deserves to be up there. So skill for skill, I'm ready to compete with them all. I like the idea of a Steve Garcia or an Aaron Pico, I like the idea of that type of range of fights, and I think that's pretty realistic to what I can get, so I'm looking forward to those opportunities in the future. Yeah, somebody in those ranges would be sick."
Being a Mexican-American and living and fighting out of Arizona, many think a return at this year's Noche UFC would be perfect for Delgado. Noche UFC takes place Sept. 12 at the Diamond Desert Arena in Glendale, Ariz.
Delgado would love to participate on that card, and wouldn't say no if a name of interest came up, but he admits the timeline is looking tough.

Real Madrid may have a captaincy debate to resolve this summer. It looked like Federico Valverde was the chosen one to be Los Blancos’ captain going forward.
However, it has now emerged that Vinicius Jr is also desperate to wear the armband and that Florentino Perez is not convinced by the Uruguayan’s captaincy credentials.
Speaking on Radioestadio Noche, Alberto Pereiro said, “I have the feeling that there’s a pending conversation about the captaincies at Madrid.”
“Florentino is not at all convinced about Valverde’s captaincy.”
This is quite surprising because Valverde has long been viewed as one of the future captains of the Spanish giants.

From newcomer to ranked contender, that's the goal for Colombia's Javier Reyes this 2026.
Reyes (23-5 MMA, 1-0 UFC), who joined the UFC through a Dana White Contender Series contract win in 2025, wants to make a big impact in his first year as an official UFC fighter. The featherweight **** le hopeful debuted for the UFC in February, stopping veteran Douglas Silva de Andrade in a first-round TKO. Now, Reyes returns at UFC Fight Night 280 (Paramount+) this Saturday at Crystal Palace in Baku, Azerbaijan. He takes on Kaan Ofli (13-4-1 MMA, 2-2 UFC).
Reyes intends to get another dominant win, climbing to 2-0 in the promotion, and call for a spot on September's Noche UFC event, setting himself up for a third – and maybe even a fourth to close out 2026.
"I think it's a possibility, yeah," Reyes told Hablemos MMA in Spanish when asked if he could find himself in the rankings by 2027. "I think I'll finish this guy and get directly into the top 15. I think at the very least I can close out the year in the top 15, and after that, I can begin to hunt the bigger names. But step by step."
Reyes made a big statement in his debut. He dispatches a tough and experienced Silva de Andrade. Despite the big win, he still feels UFC fans haven't seen what he's really about.

Diego Lopes has a knack for special moments.
From UFC 300 to Noche UFC at the Sphere to UFC Freedom 250 at the White House, it's been a wild ride for a man who didn't reach the UFC until his 27th pro fight. But now it's time to create such memories, and perhaps greater ones, in a new landscape.
Even though he's coming off a big win, Lopes (28-8 MMA, 7-3 UFC) is eying a move to lightweight – and says the promotion likes the idea, too.
"I want to move for 155 to make a couple of fights," Lopes told MMA Junkie on Monday. "I really like the idea more because I'm so honest. I just lost two times to Volkanovski. He's still here in the division. I don't think I have a shot for the ****** le soon. So I don't care if I fight with a guy low in the rankings. I fight this two times, when I lost, for the belt. But I really like the idea for moving to 155. This week, I talked with the UFC about this. The UFC liked the idea, too. I just need to figure out what the best option is. I think in the top-five, all fights are a good one for me."
The decision to move up has been considered for a bit. Lopes says the decision is multi-fold. He's a bigger featherweight, so not having to cut the calories or the weight is attractive to him. There also might be a more realistic route to the ****** le, considering he's lost twice to current featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski. But also, the matchups at lightweight? Those could be a ****** of a lot of fun for the fans, says Lopes.
