A former three-year Duke Blue Devil recently signed a professional contract overseas after a four-year NBA career. According to BasketNews, Wendell Moore Jr. will be joining Italian basketball club Virtus Bologna. Virtus Bologna competes in the EuroLeague and topped the Italian basketball league (LBA) standings last season with a 23-5 record.
After earning North Carolina Mr. Basketball honors during his senior season at ******* Mill High School, Moore Jr. went on to average 10.7 points, 4.9 rebounds, 3.2 ******* ists and 1.2 steals in three seasons at Duke. Moore Jr. was then selected No. 26 overall by the Dallas Mavericks in the 2022 NBA Draft.
In four NBA seasons, Moore Jr. played a total of 96 games for three different franchises: the Minnesota Timberwolves, Detroit Pistons and Charlotte Hornets. In those games, he averaged 2.3 points, 1.4 rebounds, 0.7 ******* ists, 0.3 steals and 0.3 blocks in 8.2 minutes per game.

The Detroit Pistons legend and his two sons – Deuce, and Parker – were present at a youth golf clinic at Belle Isle Golf Center on Thursday, July 23. Deuce, the elder son, is entering his freshman year with the Oakland Golden Grizzlies, where he will play for long-tenured head coach Greg Campe.
Born in 2007, Deuce entered the world in the middle of his dad's nine-year career with the Pistons from 2002-11. He recently completed his senior year at Oakwood in North Hollywood, California, and committed to Oakland in March.

The Brooklyn Nets still have some moves to make with the 2026 NBA offseason still containing some big names on the market that could sign as soon as LeBron James decides where he will play next. Brooklyn has made most of the moves that they're going to make prior to the beginning of the 2026-27 season, but they are projected to lead the league in cap ****** e against next season.
The Nets are projected to have $68.6 million in cap ****** e following the conclusion of the 2026-27 campaign, according to Keith Smith of Spotrac in a post on X on Thursday. Following the Nets are the Chicago Bulls ($55.6 million), Los Angeles Clippers ($53.8 million), Detroit Pistons ($43.9 million), and Milwaukee Bucks ($43.3 million) to round out the top-5 teams in cap ****** e that offseason.
While Brooklyn is projected to have the most cap ****** e in the league next summer, that figure would change if the Nets agree to a contract extension with forward Michael Porter Jr. at some point this offseason. Porter is eligible to sign an extension for four years and $234 million and while he is unlikely to get the maximum amount of money he is eligible for, the structure of his extension could change Brooklyn's offseason next year significantly.
More to the point, the Nets reportedly signed center Mo Wagner to a two-year, $18 million deal, according to ESPN's Shams Charania, but the Wagner signing has not been made official as of this writing. However, even Brooklyn signs Wagner to the reported contract, his second year may not factor into the Nets' cap ****** e if it is a team option that the team ultimately declines.
Essentially, ****** uming that Porter isn't signed to a contract extension and Wagner's deal has a team option on the second year, Brooklyn will have almost $70 million in cap ****** e to work with after next season. Some of the best unrestricted free-agents next season, excluding James, will be Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry, forward Kawhi Leonard, and Milwaukee Bucks guard Tyler Herro.

Washington Huskies coach Danny Sprinkle has completed his coaching staff with the hiring of 25-year NBA veteran ***** istant coach Charles Klask.
Klask, a graduate of Michigan State in 1999, began his coaching career in the NBA as a video coordinator for the Detroit Pistons in 2000-01 under then-coach Rick Carlisle. He spent the next decade as a scout with the Orlando Magic, working for Doc Rivers and Stan Van Gundy among other notable head coaches for the organization before he advanced into a coaching role.
Most recently, Klask spent eight seasons with the Denver Nuggets as an ***** istant coach, helping develop players like three-time MVP big man Nikola Jokić, while being on staff for the franchise's first championship in 2023.
The hiring of Klask is the second confirmed coaching change this offseason for Sprinkle. It follows the addition of ex-Marquette ***** istant coach DeAndre Haynes, giving Sprinkle a wealth of experience joining his bench for the 2026-27 men's basketball season as the third-year coach aims to return UW to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2019 under former coach Mike Hopkins.
Having coached numerous All-Star-caliber players in the NBA over his two-plus decades spent in the league—Blake Griffin, Chauncey Billups, and Andre Drummond, among several others—the addition of the Big Ten alum should blend well with a veteran-laden roster that features seven juniors and seniors.

The summer league has ended for the Philadelphia 76ers after they finished 2-3 out in Las Vegas. They won their first two games, but then ended on a 3-game skid. However, wins and losses do not matter out in Vegas. It's all about how the young players look and how they can adjust to the NBA game after to prepare for what's to come.
Sixers big man Johni Broome went out to Vegas looking to still establish himself in the league. He had a tough rookie season in which he was limited to only 11 games due to a torn meniscus in his right knee, but he was able to get some run while in the summer league. The No. 35 pick of the 2025 draft averaged 14.7 points, 9.0 rebounds, and 1.7 ****** ists in the three games he played.
For Broome, here are three observations that stood out in the 2026 summer league:
Broome had a poor showing in his third and final summer league game, but he was a monster on the boards in the first two games. He grabbed 13 rebounds in the first game against the Detroit Pistons and then 11 in an overtime win over the Indiana Pacers. There was ****** ody on either team who could slow him down on the glass and Broome went to work as he attacked the glass and really gave Philadelphia a presence in the paint. That has to continue into the 2026-27 season as it would give him a real chance to produce and earn some minutes from coach Nick Nurse and the coaching staff.
If one has been following along with Sixers Wire, they would know that summer league coach TJ DiLeo wanted Broome to launch some 3s and show off his work there. Broome struggled as he shot just 2-for-15 from deep in the three games, but he has been working hard on that shot and has been wanting to show it off in a game setting. As he continues to develop his game, Broome will get more opportunities to show his game, but he will have to beat out both Adem Bona and Ariel Hukporti in the coming season in order to earn some minutes behind Joel Embiid in the center rotation.

The summer league has ended for the Philadelphia 76ers after they finished 2-3 out in Las Vegas. They won their first two games, but then ended on a 3-game skid. However, wins and losses do not matter out in Vegas. It's all about how the young players look and how they can adjust to the NBA game after to prepare for what's to come.
Sixers rookie guard Labaron Philon Jr. had some big moments in the summer league as he showed off his skills. He averaged 18.5 points, 5.8 ****** ists, and 3.5 rebounds along with 1.5 steals in four games. He put all of his skills on display and should be able to bring that talent to the league when the regular season begins in October.
Here are the three biggest observations on Philon while at the summer league:
Philon showed the capability to be able to put the ball in the basket. His percentages weren't great, he shot 38.2% overall and 25.8% from deep, but that can be attributed to being the main threat on the floor and teams swarming him whenever he crossed halfcourt. He also was shooting a respectable 39% from deep before a 1-for-13 showing in his final outing on July 15. There were plenty of times when he was blitzed and had to quickly adjust to how teams were defending him. Even with the extra attention, Philon was able to get into the paint, give the summer Sixers somebody who could make plays for others, and was able to make his presence known. It was a solid showing and should give the team some optimism about adding a 3-level scorer to the bench unit.
Over the four games in Vegas, Philon compiled 23 ****** ists against 10 turnovers in the four games he played. He had four turnovers in the finale against the Magic, but fatigue could have been a factor. He played 36:35 in that one on the second day of a back-to-back and he averaged 32 minutes in the summer league. He had seven ****** ists in the opener against the Detroit Pistons, six against the Indiana Pacers, four against the Houston Rockets, and six against the Magic. He was able to make plays for others, was directing traffic, and showed a lot of confidence for a rookie. The Sixers should be happy with what they saw.

It is also the anniversary of Abdel Nader signing a four-year, $6 million deal with Boston in 2017. Nader was also drafted by the Celtics, with the 58th pick of the 2016 NBA Draft, and would play one season with the team before being dealt to the Oklahoma City Thunder, in which he logged 3 points and 1.5 rebounds per contest.
Phil Pressey was waived on this date in 2015, after two seasons with the team. The Dallas native was signed as an undrafted free agent out of Missouri in 2013, and he recorded 3.1 points, 1.5 rebounds, and 1.9 ******* ists per game. Demetrius Jackson was also waived today in 2017, having been drafted by the team in 2016 out of Notre Dame with the 45th overall pick. He was with the Celtics for just five games, over which he averaged 2 points per tilt.

Gonzaga Bulldogs coach Mark Few will be one of the three ******* istants on Miami Heat coach Erik Spoelstra’s Team USA staff ahead of the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, California, per a report for ESPN’s Shams Charania.
The other two are Oklahoma City Thunder coach Mark Daigneault and Detroit Pistons coach JB Bickerstaff. Spoelstra and Few won the gold medal as ******* istants together under Golden State Warriors coach Steve Kerr at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, France.
The first step to qualifying for the upcoming Olympics comes at the 2027 FIBA World Cup. Few will head off to Doha, Qatar, from August 27 to September 12, 2027.
This could also potentially mean that the member of the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame Class of 2026 is locked in for at least the next two seasons as the leader of the Zags.

According to ESPN's Shams Charania, Few was selected as one of the three ***** istants that will serve under Spoelstra, the longtime Miami Heat coach who's replacing Golden State Warriors coach Steve Kerr ahead of the forthcoming FIBA World Cup and Olympics cycle.

Formalities are being finalized and an official announcement is expected to come Thursday, July 16.
The person spoke under the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to publicly comment on the decisions until they became official.
ESPN was first to report the news of the additions to the staff.

Today in Boston Celtics history, the team officially signed All-Star veteran forward Gordon Hayward from the Utah Jazz in free agency, following a dispute that went down on the Fourth of July holiday regarding his departure from the Jazz after conflicting reports clouded the picture. The Butler alum's contract, which spanned four years and was valued at $128 million with a player option for the final year, started under gruesome circumstances that required several seasons for Hayward to overcome.
A devastating injury to his ankle ended Hayward’s first season with Boston just a few minutes into the 2018-19 NBA season. The Indiana native worked diligently over the next two seasons to get back to his old self and abilities. Unfortunately, by the time he had mostly recovered his game, it was on a team that needed him in less of a starring and more of a supporting role. As a result, Hayward decided to decamp to the Charlotte Hornets in the 2020 offseason.
He averaged 13.9 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 3.6 **** ists per game with the Celtics over three seasons.
It is also the anniversary of former Celtic big man Chris Wilcox signing with the team in 2012. Wilcox, a former Maryland standout, had last played for the Detroit Pistons before signing on to reinforce Boston’s aging frontcourt in the latter days of the Banner 17 crew. He played 89 games over two seasons with the franchise. The Raleigh, North Carolina, native averaged 4.6 points and 3.3 boards in his time in green and white.
A pivotal moment in Celtics history came in 1978. Legendary team president Red Auerbach decided to turn down an offer from the New York Knicks, after the Celtics’ new owner, John Y. Brown, had made a mess of his roster by making trades without consulting Auerbach.

Detroit selected the guard with the 37th overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft. As a rookie last season, he played in 34 games in a depth role. He is still searching for his first career start, but averaged 2.4 points in 7.7 minutes per game.
Lanier has shown consistent accuracy from beyond the arc so far in the Pistons' Summer League games. In the first game Detroit played against the Philadelphia 76ers, he made 1 of 6 3s, but bounced back against the Cleveland Cavaliers, connecting on 7 of 12.
So far this summer, the guard is 16-for-30 from 3-point range for a 53.3% shooting percentage.

The No. 22 overall pick in the draft is averaging 21.0 points and 6.5 ***** ists while shooting 40% from deep on 7.5 attempts. He has shown no signs of being a rookie as he has played with a ton of poise and confidence as a young player.
Philon had 24 points in Saturday's summer league overtime win over the Indiana Pacers and made some big plays in the extra session and in big moments. It was another strong showing after scoring 18 points in the win over the Detroit Pistons.
"I'm a very confident player, I would say," Philon smiled. "Being able to get into the lane, being able to spread out, get into the lane, make some open 3s, and just being able to compete on the other side of the ball. I feel like that's an important thing as well."
Philon is also averaging 3.0 rebounds per game in the summer league. That's another factor that he wants to add to his game and help him earn his spot in the rotation and help the Sixers move forward. It's obvious that he has a good head on his shoulders and is looking to give Philadelphia some real production.
"Being able to go get those extra rebounds," Philon finished. "When the bigs are boxing out. That can take it a long way. Being able to just get five or seven rebounds as a guard. I feel like that's a big thing."

Former Vol Chaz Lanier started and led the Pistons in scoring with 25 points. He converted 9-of-17 field goal attempts and 7-of-12 three-point attempts. Lanier also recorded three rebounds, three ******* ists and one steal.
Meleek Thomas led all scorers for the Cavaliers. He totaled 30 points, four rebounds, seven ******* ists and four steals.

Just a couple seasons ago, Labaron Philon Jr. and Johni Broome were foes as Alabama faced Auburn in the Iron Bowl of basketball.
Now, the two are teammates.
Broome has been with the Philadelphia 76ers since he was drafted 35th overall last year, but Philon became the organization's latest rookie addition as the 22nd overall pick in June.
The unlikely duo fed off of each other in Philon's NBA Summer League debut. As the man from Mobile dropped 18 points and dished out a team-best seven **** ists, Broome came through with 19 points and 13 rebounds.
In the aftermath of the 101-93 win over the Detroit Pistons on Thursday, July 9, an unexpected reporter squeezed his way into Broome's media scrum.

The San Antonio Spurs have made it clear over the past few weeks that, in free agency and the offseason, they're looking to add wing players who can score at an above-average level from three-point range.
Not to say the Spurs don't want to do anything else, but there's certainly been a priority on adding forwards who can score and defend at a relatively high level.
Reports have indicated that they've been interested in several of them and eventually did so by signing Tobias Harris, a highly respected veteran who had a strong year with the Detroit Pistons this past season.
San Antonio should be looking for more, however, which is why going after a guy like Cam Johnson makes sense. Johnson was recently predicted to be traded, and I don't think there are many better options for the Spurs to consider.

LAS VEGAS -- The summer league offers an opportunity for players who slipped through the cracks to catch on with a team and earn a chance to make an NBA roster with a strong performance. There are plenty of players who get overlooked in the draft, but can find their way onto rosters and eventually make an impact.
For the Philadelphia 76ers, that player could be Isaac Johnson. The man they call "Big Fish" played four seasons in college starting with Oregon before transferring to Utah State for two years and then finishing with Hawaii. He averaged 14.1 points and 5.8 rebounds in his final collegiate season in 2025-26 and is now looking to make an impact with the Sixers and showcase himself for an NBA roster.
"I think for everybody here, it's an opportunity just to see where we line up," Johnson said at practice on Friday. "All of us have to be able to just play to the best of our ability right now, and so right now it's. I said in one of the huddles, 'Welcome to Vegas.' I said 'We can make a lot more money than at the tables right now.' So that's the point we're at. We're trying to just make a spot on whatever team and trying to just show what we can do."
That's certainly the right attitude to have, but there is a balance. Johnson is looking for a chance in this league, whether that's with the Sixers or elsewhere. So, while, yes, he has to play within the system and play the game the right way, he also needs to go out there and sort of force the issue in an effort to make himself stand out.
"So, everybody's got a role," Johnson stated. "Everybody's here for a specific reason. The one amazing thing about this team that we showed, they passed the ball. ***** ody was being greedy. Everybody played within their role. It was amazing, and that's the reason why we were able to hold them off (Thursday's win over the Detroit Pistons). We were able to score so much, and so I was just blessed with open shots because my teammates were able to facilitate, make amazing drives and kicks, and it just made everything work."

The Philadelphia 76ers will continue the summer league when they take on the Indiana Pacers, and if you're wondering how you can watch all the action live, you've come to the right place. It was a good start for the skilled big man as he had 19 points and 13 rebounds in a win over the Detroit Pistons on Thursday. He shot 9-for-18 from the floor and 1-for-5 from deep as he looks to become an all-around player for Philadelphia.
Summer league coach TJ DiLeo has some hopes and plans for Broome in the summer league and Thursday was a good start for him.
"I want him to shoot 3s," DiLeo stated. "I want him to shoot 3s. He's been working on it. I think it'll be a part of his game. Then, I want him to take care of the ball, and I want him to control the game a little bit. We should be able to play through him a little bit, and he's a good decision maker. I want him to play physical and defensively. I want him to be great positioning-wise. Like, he's got to be in spots early. His positional defending has to be in great. He has to think a step ahead on that end of the floor."
A big aspect of Broome's game is his rebounding as shown in Thursday's win. Of the 13 rebounds, five of them were on the offensive glass. If he is going to continue gobbling up rebounds in that aspect, then the Sixers are going to be happy with what they have seen. The big man out of Auburn is on his way to being one of the more physical and effective rebounders in the game.

In his first NBA Summer League game, he helped the 76ers beat the Detroit Pistons 101-93. In his debut game, Philon scored 18 points and dished out seven ******* ists. It might not have been the most efficient game, but he showed why he is a long-term piece in Philly.
Philon has always been hailed as a player with a high offensive ceiling. He is showcasing that his perimeter shooting can be relied upon by the 76ers. In the upcoming 2026-27 season, he will be a 20-year-old rookie, but he wants to be a contributor.
Thankfully, he will have some good mentors, including Tyrese Maxey and former NBA Finals MVP Jaylen Brown. He could even play alongside them when needed, as he will be ready to keep shooting when the ball is given to him.
