Is there any investment market segment more debated than gold (XAUUSD)? I'm not sure there is. We have "gold bugs," including those who see the yellow metal as the ***** et to own when the world goes haywire.
Then, there are the "we're going back on the gold standard" types. The ones that preceded crypto bros in believing fiat currencies weren't for this world. It follows that gold would return to its former role as the reserve currency.

Of course, there are also plenty of investors who don't really think about gold investing very much, and who will simply trade it when there's a good opportunity. I'm in this camp.
Financial media pundits routinely tout gold as some sort of bulletproof allocation. Inflation worries? Own gold. Currency debasement? Own gold. Want your kitchen to be decorated like the Oval Office? You'll need a lot of gold.

Stephen "The Bullet" Bunting's love for darts was formed at a young age while watching his dad play at their local pub.
"I think I was about 12 or 13," he remembered. "Hood up, sneaking around, sitting at the back, being very quiet with a bag of crisps and a fizzy orange."
Nearly three decades later, and now a father himself, everything has gone full circle for Fazakerley's finest.
His elder son now watches him play... albeit in sold-out arenas across the country rather than in their local boozer.
"In darts, if it goes wrong there's only you that can change it," said the 41-year-old Bunting, who now lives in St Helens.

Every sport has its unwritten rules, and one of the most universal is simple: Don't give your opponent "bulletin-board material." Don't say something that can be printed out, slapped on a wall, and pointed to by a coach looking for a little extra motivation. Don't give the other team a reason to make the game personal.
In the end, almost anything can be twisted into locker-room material in one way or another. When Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive back Zyon McCollum was asked how he felt about playing against one of the most talented offenses in the league in Week 1, he had plenty of ways he could have answered.
And he made a decision.
"We're going to have opportunities, guaranteed opportunities," he said when asked about his Week 1 opponents. "I mean, they want to get their season started off right. They want to get in rhythm early, so the ball is guaranteed to go in the air. And a ball in the air belongs to us. You know, that's the mentality that we have. That's what we're going into the game thinking. We know we're going to get tested early, so it's an incredible opportunity for us.
"There will be no better feeling than when we take away three, four interceptions."

There's no doubt who the biggest star for Texas is right now. Arch Manning is the projected top pick in the 2027 NFL Draft, and likely would have been the first pick in April's draft had he declared.
After opening up last season throwing for 170 yards and a touchdown against Ohio State, Manning finished the season with 26 passing touchdowns and 3,163 yards, while adding 10 rushing touchdowns. Manning is one of the favorites to win this year's Heisman Trophy.
The biggest acquisition for Texas in the transfer portal during the offseason was wide receiver Cam Coleman from Auburn. In two seasons with the Tigers, Coleman grabbed 93 passing touchdowns for over 1,300 yards and 13 scores.
In his first game in the burnt orange, Coleman hauled in three passes for 70 yards, finding the end zone twice. The junior is expected to be in the mix for the Biletnikoff Award this season, trying to keep up with Ohio State wideout Jeremiah S,it's in their pursuit for the honor.
Prior to last year's game Simmons provided Ohio State with some bulletin board material when he boasted how eager he was to sack new Buckeye quarterback Julian Sayin.

Valentina Shevchenko has suffered an injury that could keep her out for up to a year, forcing the UFC to strip her of the women's flyweight **** le. As a result, Natalia Silva and **** Cong will now battle for the vacant 125-pound belt in the main event of UFC 332 on October 3 at the Delta Center in Salt Lake City.
The promotion announced the news during Saturday's UFC Paris broadcast. Now, Shevchenko's longtime coach, Pavel Fedotov, has provided some insight into the injury that forced the former champion out of the event.
According to Telegram Ushatayka, Fedotov revealed that "Bullet" was originally scheduled to face Silva at UFC 332. However, ligament damage to her shoulder and back forced the Kyrgyzstani fighter to withdraw.

With the recovery expected to take a considerable amount of time, the team has opted to vacate the belt rather than hold up the division. Fedotov also made it clear that the goal is for Shevchenko to return and immediately fight for the **** le once she is healthy again.

Here's a bullet-point rundown of USA players whose clubs were in action this weekend (Friday through Sunday). Players are divided by position groups (which helps my depth-chart-oriented brain to process this information most usefully). Stats are from FotMob.
Folarin Balogun (25) did not travel with Monaco for their 2-1 away win over PSG on Friday. Balogun is also not included in Monaco's Conference League list.
Justin Ellis (19) played 75 minutes, provided an **** ist, and created 2 chances in Orlando City's 1-0 win over San Diego FC in MLS on Saturday.
Daryl Dike (26) played 66 minutes, created 1 chance, and missed 1 big chance in Orlando City's 1-0 win over San Diego FC in MLS on Saturday. Dike had the hockey **** ist on Ellis's **** ist (above).
Josh Sargent (26) played the full 90, scored a hat trick, and missed 1 big chance in Toronto FC's 4-4 draw with the Chicago Fire in MLS on Saturday. Sargent was rated Man of the Match by FotMob.

After weeks of delays and behind-the-scenes attempts to cobble something meaningful together, UFC 332 in Salt Lake City, Utah finally has a championship main event: Natalia Silva vs. ****** Cong for the vacant women's flyweight belt.
Wait, what? The flyweight belt that Valentina Shevchenko has defended a whopping nine times since 2018 across two ****** le runs? That's now vacant? When announcing Silva vs. Cong, they cited a "Bullet" injury but didn't really get into details on how the belt was put back up for grabs. A statement from Shevchenko's coach Pavel Fedotov gave a bit more info.
"We were supposed to fight on October 3 against Natalia Silva, but due to an injury to the ligaments in the shoulder and back, we decided not to push things and postpone the fight," Fedotov wrote (via Ushatayka). "Given that the recovery will take a long time, we've made the decision to temporarily vacate the belt, and once she recovers, she will fight for it again."
According to Fedotov, they're expecting the injury to take eight months to recover from.
In the past, you might expect to see an interim ****** le go up for grabs after similar injuries taking under a year to heal. But these days, the UFC has gotten into the habit of asking its injured champions to relinquish their belts. Jamahal Hill did it when he ruptured his Achilles tendon, and so did Jiri Prochazka when he injured his shoulder. Now we've got Valentina Shevchenko doing it.

SAN FRANCISCO, Sept 4 (Reuters) - A swarm of rogue OpenAI agents hijacked a German website this spring and transformed it into a bulletin board for other AI agents, according to new research published Friday and two people familiar with the matter.
OpenAI officials learned of the incident weeks ago but kept it under wraps as executives ‌grappled with the fallout from the July breach of the open source repository Hugging Face, the people said.
The episode, which began in May and has not previously been reported, underscores growing tension ‌within the AI industry. Companies are racing to build increasingly autonomous agents capable of carrying out complex, valuable tasks, yet evidence is mounting that those systems may also learn to bend rules, exploit loopholes and coordinate with one another in ways developers neither anticipated nor intended.
During the Hugging Face breach, OpenAI agents autonomously plotted a digital heist that went undetected for more than a week, intensifying concerns OpenAI is sacrificing safety to push the AI frontier. Its failure to disclose the May incident may revive questions about its oversight.

These observations — where I look at Real Madrid's history, its players on loan, Castilla, tactical tidbits, and other relevant thoughts — are now a regular thing. All previous editions can be found here.
Here is a new thing I'm committing to this season: Five semi-informal bullet points after each game.
Also, check out last night's post-game podcast where I break down the loss for 34 minutes:
I'm not pushing a panic ******* on. I realize that what I'm about to say will come across as 'low standards', 'acceptance of mediocrity', 'a moral victory', etc — but I will say it anyway and with my chest: If you replay this game 10 more times, Real Madrid wins it 10 times. We just happened to play the freak version where Kylian Mbappe missed a penalty, three big chances, and then Vinicius missed a big chance, Espi had bad luck, and Real Madrid squandered an xG of nearly four. The math checks out: Real Madrid were mostly good but didn't score, somehow. What should've happened was Real Madrid go up one or two goals by half-time, Bellingham and Güler get a deserved ******* ist each, then Real Betis open up in the second half and get cooked. But also, all that to say: Real Madrid didn't deserve to win just because they created more chances, and I just made up a scenario to make myself feel better — possibly because I feel numb to the way the last two seasons have gone. Also: Real Madrid are generally terrible at the Benito Villamarin in the last few years. But, at some point, you have to stop using past precedence as an excuse to lose. How many league ******* les do Real Madrid have in the past 20 years again? Answer: Not enough.
Another Arda Güler masterclass, wasted. He's basically been lights out in every minute he's played in this season. When I have to repeat this after every Arda Güler performance, that's pretty ******* good evidence that he's one of the best players in Europe right now, and certainly, from an ******* ytical standpoint, clearly one of the best creators on the entire continent.

Not to date myself, but I came up in a time when first-person shooter video games were picking up in popularity. I latched on to "Counter-Strike" during my first year of undergrad in 2001. The whole floor of my dorm was male engineers only. It was a perfect haven for LAN parties. While some of my classmates practiced with rifles, I tended toward the "spray and pray" options. My reasoning was simple:
If I fire enough bullets in the video game, I'm bound to hit somebody.
Join or create a Yahoo Fantasy Football league for the 2026 NFL season
However, I (quickly) found a flaw in my plan. More ammo didn't necessarily equate to a stronger KDA ratio in the game. I was cannon fodder! Instead of flinging shells, controlled bursts and a coordinated approach were the right play — not my Leroy Jenkins impersonation. And as we get to the end of our drafts, that's how we should be approaching picks we think of as just throwaways.
Part III is here, the worst picks of Rounds 9-12. Go here for Part II of this series, the worst picks of Rounds 5-8. Here's also Part I, the worst picks of the first four rounds.

The Las Vegas Raiders drafted Fernando Mendoza with plans for him to take the reins as the starting quarterback. John Spytek and Klint Kubiak believe in the young quarterback and what he can do for the franchise in the future.
When it comes to putting him on the football field, the team wants to make sure he is ready. That's why the team brought in Kirk Cousins as a stopgap quarterback until they feel he is fully up to speed. During the preseason, Mendoza had ups and downs, which is why they thought Cousins should start early.
The question now becomes: when does Mendoza get the starting job? The number of games he plays this year will help him reach his potential earlier, where he can learn while the bullets are flying.
In this week's SB Nation Reacts, we ask Raider Nation if Mendoza will start 10 games. Raider Nation doesn't have faith it will happen, with only 25% agreeing he will start 10 games.
If Mendoza does get into the starting lineup, you would expect him to have the job for the rest of the season. Fans expect to wait a long time for that to happen.

After not playing in the Washington Commanders' preseason opener, starting quarterback Jayden Daniels made his preseason debut in Washington's loss to the Detroit Lions. Daniels only played on the Commanders' first drive of the game and that is the only action the coaching staff wanted him to have in this game.
"It's tough, but it goes with the business now," Daniels said. "Understanding that I'm going into year three now. So, understand I can't play [all] 60-plus plays in the preseason game. The main goal is week one and the games after that. So, you're just trying to build up, ramp up and try to knock out the rust here and there. From there, you go out there and trust your coaching."
In his only drive so far in the preseason, Washington went three-and-out. He only attempted one pass on first down, but it was incomplete, and he was sacked on second down, which is why the Commanders chose to run the ball on third down to prevent their quarterback from getting hit again. Daniels felt it was a good opportunity to get back on the field during the preseason, especially because the intensity is different in a preseason game versus a joint practice.
"It was just good to get back out there and play football again. It's been a little over eight months since I played live football," Daniels said. "It was just good to go out operationally out there, live bullets. I mean, joint practice is great … It's a different type of urgency when you're going against someone else that is live. So, it was good to get back out there and like I said, play football once again."
Washington will conclude the preseason against the Baltimore Ravens this coming Friday. It is not anticipated that Daniels or any of the starters will play in this game, as head coach Dan Quinn does not usually play starters in the final preseason game. Daniels and the starters will get more action with next week's joint practice two days before the preseason finale.

Today in Boston Celtics history, Jerryd Bayless was born in Phoenix, Arizona, in 1988. He played his NCAA basketball for the Arizona Wildcats for a single season before entering the 2008 NBA Draft, where the Indiana Pacers selected him with the 11th overall pick.
The Phoenix native never suited up for the Pacers, dealt to the Portland Trail Blazers soon after the draft was over. He also played for the (then) New Orleans Hornets (now, Pelicans), Toronto Raptors, and Memphis Grizzlies before the latter ball club sent Bayless to Boston in a trade that netted the Celtics 3-and-D wing Courtney Lee. Bayless played just one season for the Celtics, suiting up for a total of 41 games and starting 14 of them.

Today in Boston Celtics history, James Young was born in Flint, Michigan, in 1995. He played collegiate basketball for the University of Kentucky Wildcats, earning Second Team All-SEC and SEC All-Freshman Team honors in 2014. Not long after, the Boston Celtics selected him with the 17th overall pick in the 2014 NBA Draft.
The Flint native struggled on both ends of the court at the next level, spending much of his time with Boston's developmental affiliate in the D League (as the G League was known in that era). This was of course the Maine Red Claws (now Celtics), where he spent a considerable part of his rookie season. He played a total of three seasons for the Celtics, but despite some strong showings with the Red Claws, couldn't put it together at the NBA level.
Young averaged 2.3 points and a rebound per game while with Boston.

Formula 1's competitive order was shaken up in 2026 with the roll out of sweeping new regulations across the chassis, aerodynamics and power units. Mercedes came out on top, with it now leading the constructors' standings and Kimi Antonelli is on top in the drivers' championship.
But the team hasn't been bulletproof this year, and strong performances from drivers up and down the grid have shown that there's still a lot at stake in F1 2026. Here, we look back on some of the best drives of the year so far, which show that a great driver can still make a difference in F1 2026.
Lewis Hamilton, Ferrari crosses the finish line
The auguries for Ferrari success in Barcelona were not great from FP1 onwards – a session Lewis Hamilton missed, on account of having to give his car to Dino Beganovic for one of the seasonal 'rookie runs', and in which Charles Leclerc was third fastest, albeit half a second off the pacesetting Mercedes of George Russell. All this on a weekend in which Ferrari added yet another upgrade package.
Hamilton was then over a second off the absolute pace in a disappointing FP2, complaining volubly about terrible tyre degradation. It's becoming evident in 2026 that, owing to the subtleties of operating the new power units, missing a session is more disadvantageous than it used to be, even at tracks such as this one, which a veteran of Hamilton's calibre could lap blindfolded.

Trigger Warning: Mental Health Struggles

Brad Pitt's vulnerability during his recent interview has drawn praise as the actor opened up about his mental health challenges. The actor shared emotional details about his family struggles.
Brad Pitt, who separated from Angelina Jolie, spoke about his challenges, which he described as "family stuff." The highly publicized separation after 12 years of relationship and 2 years of marriage took a toll on his mental health.
According to Radar, a source said, "There is a feeling that Brad speaking this openly matters, because it shows men, even superstars, can have suicidal thoughts when life becomes overwhelming. He is not presenting himself as invincible – he is admitting there was a period when he could not see a way through the pain."
"For someone with Brad's fame to describe reaching that point is incredibly stark. The hope is that people understand money, success and celebrity do not make somebody immune from despair," the source added.
Earlier during an interview with Esquire, Brad Pitt said, "I've never been suicidal except for one little period. And in that one little period, I just couldn't – just didn't see a way out. The pain was so oppressive that – I wasn't going to act on this – but I could feel the cold steel of the bullet in my head, and it felt like relief."

Ohtani: I was, of course, thinking I want to do it soon, but of course, I need to go at full strength and, as I just said, having to come out of the game is the worst thing I can do. I think it's important to have confidence that if I go as hard as I did, I can move forward and stack the days together.

If Davante Adams' time with the Los Angeles Rams needed to be summed up in a few words, the phrase "ultimate teammate" would illustrate what the NFL's leader in touchdown catches means to the franchise. Along with his league-leading production, Adams goes above and beyond to help his teammates become their best selves.
His impact is typically felt in the wide receiver room but as many like to say, "iron sharpens iron" and perhaps there is no one better equipped to sharpen Adams' Hall of Fame skillset than two-time All-Pro Trent McDuffie. McDuffie, a two-time Super Bowl champ, looks to be the defensive piece that gets Adams to a Super Bowl.
Recently, Adams has claimed that McDuffie is one of the best corners in football, praising him for dictating play with consistent dominance.
"I can honestly say I don't know if I'll get a better look than what I get from Trent out there," Adams said this week. "I don't like putting big expectations, bulletin board material or any of that but at the end of the day, I can't remember the last time I felt about another corner the way I feel about him. I say that because certain guys make plays because they fall into them. They have a certain feel for the ball, but Trent's out there doing something every single play. I don't know if you understand what I'm saying when I say that, but some guys, things happen and you end up with the ball in your hand on defense and that's how it happens."
Adams, who loves to play golf in the offseason, used an ******* ogy comparing himself to two-time major champion Collin Morikawa to explain how McDuffie makes plays instead of lucking into them.

The family of a 12-year-old boy killed by a stray bullet in the Bronx is demanding change after a suspect with a lengthy arrest record was charged with his murder.
After the death of Jacob Freytes, the son of a retired NYPD detective sergeant, his mother and sister are pushing for "Jacob's Law," which they say would require life sentences for people convicted of recklessly taking a child's life.
"I gave him a kiss, and I walked out, and we always do a little dolphin kiss. And I walked out and went to work," Migdalia Martinez, Freytes' mother, told "Fox & Friends" Tuesday.
