Challenges in the NFL can alter the course of a game and a season. For head coaches, having control and power over that means a lot to them, but soon that power may be transferred to the sidelines after a recent rule change was made in the league.
Earlier this week, it was reported that the NFL will allow head coaches to designate an ******* istant coach to be able to throw challenge flags. Previously, only the head coaches had the power to challenge plays, but now this will allow them to dole out that responsibility.
This marks the first rule change related to challenges since 1999.
For the Vikings, Kevin O'Connell was 9-for-16 on challenges heading into 2025. Perhaps passing it off won't be a thing for him, considering the luck and results he seems to be getting handling them at the moment.

Liverpool's first pre-season under new boss Andoni Iraola has not been without its challenges - but one reason for optimism is the emergence of 18-year-old defender Ifeanyi Ndukwe.
Iraola's side are short of numbers in central defence, so Austrian teenager Ndukwe has been handed more minutes than even he might have expected.
With two lots of 90 minutes and an 80-minute display already under his belt, Ndukwe was handed a start alongside captain Virgil van Dijk against Monaco at Anfield on Sunday.
And it didn't take long for the imposing 6ft 6in (1.98m) youngster to draw gasps from the crowd after a neat backheel to wrong-foot Monaco's Mika Biereth, before winning important defensive duels.
After the departure of France international Ibrahima Konate, it remains unclear who will partner Van Dijk in Liverpool's opening Premier League game against Newcastle.

Recent seasons have brought notable highs and lows for Lazio, which become clearer when reviewing more than just scores or headlines. Fans and football betting enthusiasts often study long-term trends, such as league position consistency, scoring stats, and defensive markers, to understand where the club excels or faces challenges. This article summarizes those patterns and fluctuations, drawing out areas of strength and inconsistency.
Lazio's final league positions over recent seasons display a mix of promising campaigns and tough stretches. Reviewing points totals and table standing each year marks out when the team achieved stability or experienced setbacks. Seasons with a stable squad typically brought better finishes, while years with major management changes or player turnover saw drops in points and position.
A settled core often correlated with higher league placements, while instability in the roster or tactics could result in a slide down the table. These shifts indicate the importance of squad cohesion and leadership continuity for Lazio's consistency.
The gap between Lazio's best and worst finishes in recent years demonstrates how volatile their campaigns can be. In their stronger seasons, the team managed to secure European qualification spots, sometimes even challenging for Champions League positions with point totals exceeding 70. Conversely, mid-table finishes around 6th to 8th place reflected campaigns where early promise faded due to poor form in the second half of the season. ****** yzing the points-per-game average across different phases of each campaign reveals that Lazio often starts strongly but struggles to maintain momentum after the winter break, suggesting potential issues with squad depth or physical conditioning during the demanding latter stages of the season.
Lazio's effectiveness in attack varies between seasons. Their goals per game ratio reveals when the team was most capable of breaking down defences, while instances of multi-goal matches point to notable offensive spells. However, some campaigns featured high shot counts but low conversion rates, underlining occasional struggles to turn opportunities into goals.

Just days after ESPN agreed to air the Patriot Games, an initiative of the Trump administration and the Freedom 250 project, one of its biggest stars joined the president for a photo op ahead of the competition's final round.
On Tuesday evening, a White House account on X posted a video of Pat McAfee welcoming President Donald Trump on the tarmac in Cleveland as Trump arrived for the high school sports competition. McAfee then smiled for photos with Trump before walking to Marine One, the president's helicopter.
Presumably, the two flew together to Spire Academy, the sports boarding school outside Cleveland where the inaugural Patriot Games were held this week.
Two high school-aged athletes from each state were selected to compete for a scholarship fund, which will be awarded to one young man and one young woman. According to the competition's website, "the event will feature a series of athletic challenges designed to test strength, endurance, agility, teamwork, and perseverance, including a Presidential Fitness Test, a military-inspired boot camp circuit, an obstacle course, and team competitions such as Kickball, Dodgeball, Tug of War, and Victory Hoops."
ESPN aired the Patriot Games on its app this week, and will broadcast a one-hour primetime special on its cable network Thursday night.

Sands Capital, an investment management company, released its "Sands Capital Technology Innovators Fund" Q2 2026 investor letter. A copy of the letter can be downloaded here. In the quarter, global equities rebounded sharply, with the MSCI ACWI posting its strongest quarterly gain since 2020, supported by broad market strength, easing geopolitical tensions, and continued enthusiasm for AI infrastructure. Information technology led the advance, with semiconductor and hardware companies accounting for most of the index's rise. The fund returned 26.9% (net) in the second quarter of 2026. The portfolio benefited from strong gains across memory, software infrastructure, cybersecurity, and other AI-related holdings, although its concentrated exposure to mega-cap chip designers and manufacturers weighed on relative performance as leadership broadened into CPUs, networking, and memory. Vertical software, internet, and financial holdings were modest detractors amid macro concerns and uncertainty over AI disruption. The fund remains focused on critical AI bottlenecks, including compute, memory, manufacturing, networking, and power, while retaining selected businesses that may use AI to strengthen their competitive positions. You can check the fund's top five holdings to learn more about its leading investment ideas for the year.
In its second-quarter 2026 investor letter, Sands Capital Technology Innovators Fund highlighted Palantir Technologies Inc. (NASDAQ:PLTR). Palantir Technologies Inc. (NASDAQ:PLTR) was 32.27% and its shares lost 5.84% over the past 52 weeks. Palantir Technologies Inc. (NASDAQ:PLTR) has a market capitalization of $413.36 billion.
Sands Capital Technology Innovators Fund stated the following regarding Palantir Technologies Inc. (NASDAQ:PLTR) in its Q2 2026 investor letter:
"Palantir Technologies Inc. Our holding was a detractor during the quarter, as shares declined despite reporting very strong first-quarter results. Trigger Warning: Mental Health Struggles

Brad Pitt's vulnerability during his recent interview has drawn praise as the actor opened up about his mental health challenges. The actor shared emotional details about his family struggles.
Brad Pitt, who separated from Angelina Jolie, spoke about his challenges, which he described as "family stuff." The highly publicized separation after 12 years of relationship and 2 years of marriage took a toll on his mental health.
According to Radar, a source said, "There is a feeling that Brad speaking this openly matters, because it shows men, even superstars, can have suicidal thoughts when life becomes overwhelming. He is not presenting himself as invincible – he is admitting there was a period when he could not see a way through the pain."
"For someone with Brad's fame to describe reaching that point is incredibly stark. The hope is that people understand money, success and celebrity do not make somebody immune from despair," the source added.
Earlier during an interview with Esquire, Brad Pitt said, "I've never been suicidal except for one little period. And in that one little period, I just couldn't – just didn't see a way out. The pain was so oppressive that – I wasn't going to act on this – but I could feel the cold steel of the bullet in my head, and it felt like relief."

On CNBC's Mad Money's August 3 episode, host Jim Cramer highlighted PayPal Holdings, Inc. (NASDAQ:PYPL) as one of the standout performers in the S&P 500 during July as it gained 32.5%. While noting operational improvements under Chief Executive Officer Enrique Lores, Cramer focused on the market reaction surrounding a reported buyout proposal from private fintech competitor Stripe and private equity partner Advent International:
Third best performing in the S&P 500… in July… PayPal. That's up 32.5%. Now, while the company's certainly doing much better under Enrique Lores than its previous CEO. The stock roared because PayPal apparently got a takeover overture from the giant private fintech company called Stripe, with the backing also of a big private equity firm. Now, they haven't agreed to anything, but it hasn't been shot down. Quizzical.
Reports of a joint buyout offer from Stripe and Advent International valued PayPal Holdings, Inc. (NASDAQ:PYPL) at approximately $53 billion, or $60.50 per share, a significant premium over its pre-announcement trading price. The acquisition attempt represents a rare role reversal, in which a private fintech firm, backed by major financial investors, is trying to buy out an established market leader.
While both platforms dominate online commerce processing, PayPal Holdings, Inc. (NASDAQ:PYPL) and Stripe represent contrasting business architectures and growth trajectories within fintech. PayPal operates as a consumer-facing ecosystem with hundreds of millions of active digital wallets alongside its merchant services. That dual-sided model gives PayPal deep brand recognition, yet leaves it exposed to changing consumer payment preferences and margin pressure in basic checkout processing.
Stripe functions as developer-first infrastructure, embedding payment capabilities directly into application software, SaaS platforms, and enterprise marketplaces. While PayPal Holdings, Inc. (NASDAQ:PYPL) relies on legacy brand equity and consumer wallet engagement, Stripe built its market share by serving software engineers and digital businesses. Combining the two firms would pair PayPal's massive global network and consumer base with Stripe's strength among software developers, though clearing regulatory scrutiny and merging their massive tech systems would pose major challenges.

CANTON, Ohio – Take it from some of the greatest. Just the thought that Aaron Donald might come out of retirement and rejoin the Los Angeles Rams is some kind of stunning.
Donald, 35, a three-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year who retired after the 2023 season, is contemplating a return that would allow him to join forces with Myles Garrett, the reigning recipient of the top defensive honor.
The NFL universe is buzzing for a final answer from Donald, one of the greatest defensive tackles in history. Maybe a decision will come this week, about a month shy of Week 1.
"If I had another force on the defensive line like an Aaron Donald or a Myles Garrett, I'd come back, too," Bruce Smith, the NFL's all-time career sack leader, told USA TODAY Sports.
"It's not going to be easy, taking (nearly) three years off and coming back," Smith added. "I'm sure there will be some challenges to work through. I wish him all the best."

Long before she became one of the organization's most feared strikers, Natalia "Karelian Lynx" Diachkova was a 12-year-old girl in a small Russian province who fell in love with the sound of a heavy bag.
That heavy bag has led her to the upcoming headliner of ONE Fight Night 46 on Prime Video, where she challenges two-sport queen Stella "Always Hungry" Hemetsberger for the ONE Women's Strawweight Muay Thai World ***** le. The event streams live in U.S. primetime this Friday, August 14, from Bangkok's historic Lumpinee Stadium.
It is the biggest opportunity of a career built on hardship long before it was ever built on highlight-reel knockouts. To understand exactly what this shot at gold means to the 31-year-old, the story has to start at the very beginning.
Diachkova found her way into combat sports through an unlikely spark. Her father, who had originally hoped for a son, brought her to a wrestling gym in the small city of Petrozavodsk when she was just 12 years old.
Wrestling never took, but everything changed the moment she watched a local coach named Ivan working a heavy bag inside a newly opened Muay Thai gym nearby. She described that moment as something close to love at first sight, the kind of feeling that stays with a person for life.

Amid backlash for supporting Perez Hilton in his mental health crisis, Jared Padalecki replied with just three words. The "Supernatural" actor drew criticism online after showing solidarity with the media personality. Padalecki has since clarified his intentions, explaining that the message was about empathy and concern for well-being.
Jared Padalecki is distancing himself from controversial gossip blogger Perez Hilton. According to Entertainment Weekly, the Walker actor reached out to Hilton over the weekend. The outreach came after Hilton was hospitalized on Tuesday, August 4, following an incident on a TikTok livestream where he appeared to injure himself.
Padalecki has spoken candidly in the past about his own mental health challenges, and he leaned on that experience while offering words of encouragement to Hilton on social media.
Padalecki took to X on Saturday, August 8, to write, "Hey PerezHilton. Just wanted to reach out and let you know that you're in my thoughts. This 'being human' is a strange thing. Exhilarating. Exhausting. Fast. Slow. Wonderful…. And… at times… awful. I hope you are trying as best as you can to be kind to yourself right now."
"Please surround yourself with the love and support that all humans deserve. This too shall pass. You got this," concluded the 44-year-old.

Household affordability challenges are leading some consumers to consider refinancing their auto loans to save money on monthly payments.
Stephanie Roberts, director of auto products at PenFed Credit Union, told FOX Business that expanded access to credit terms has allowed consumers to more easily check the rates available to them as they consider refinancing.
"I think consumers from a credit education standpoint are more educated than ever on the health of their credit, so they're taking out those refinances," Roberts said, noting that many banking and personal finance apps give consumers access to their credit scores.
"A lot of lenders, PenFed included, are allowing for consumers to check their rate by way of soft pull … without any impact to their credit score or promises that I'm going to go through this process. And I think that's why a lot of people are now seeing that refinance is a fruitful option for them, where it hadn't been like that in the past."

There was, for example, a stumble by the leaders and then wins for the teams right behind them.
The coming midweek will bring Copa Sudamericana and Libertadores challenges for THIRTEEN teams.

Earlier this week, Atlanta locked in Bijan Robinson with a 3-year extension worth up to $75 million.
The deal follows Robinson's standout production, including leading the NFL in scrimmage yards during the 2025 season. After signing Drake London and Kyle Pitts to long-term extensions earlier this offseason, Robinson's record-setting deal cements the three former first-round picks as the foundation of the Falcons offense.
Atlanta knows Robinson can lead the franchise and has decided to finish what it started building three years ago.
Every successful NFL team eventually reaches the same challenges. Drafting stars and keeping them together can prove difficult, yet the Falcons have now accomplished both.

DAZN, 5:00 am ET Teremoana Teremoana vs DeAndre Savage
From Gold Coast, Australia. Teremoana was a breakout from the 2024 Paris Olympics, arguably the 2nd best in the big boy division. Unfortunately, he caught a bad bracket and had to face professional Olympian Bakhodir Jalolov before the medal rounds. But, he earned himself enough attention to kickstart a pro career, and headlines the show in just his 12th professional outing. Savage is a 35 year old American with an 11-1 (11 KO) record, and much will be said about that in the commentary buildup to the main event. But, he's fought most of his career in Colombia and Mexico, and his two fights in the USA resulted in a no contest and his only pro loss. Michael Zerafa appears in support here against BoxRec's 194th ranked middleweight, Alejandro Ortiz. Teremoana is very exciting… But, a 5 am Wednesday start for a relatively unknown prospect isn't exactly a live coverage gold mine. The robotaxi industry is currently tiny. But in the coming years, the market should scale significantly in size. Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA) has quickly emerged as a serious competitor. And looking at various market forecasts, it's not hard to see why the market is so excited about this opportunity.
Goldman Sachs estimates the global robotaxi market will reach $415 billion by 2035. The U.S. portion represents just $48 billion of that entire pie, but autonomous trucking could add even more upside to that figure. "Autonomous trucking is expected to become cheaper per mile than human-driven trucks in 2028 in the U.S.," the bank predicts, "with the global AV trucking market potentially reaching $560 billion in 2035."

In my experience, plenty of bullish research on lucrative multidecade opportunities tends to overestimate near-term growth. The Philadelphia 76ers have a shiny new starting lineup with the huge additions of LeBron James and Jaylen Brown to join Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey, and VJ Edgecombe. On paper, that's one of the best starting lineups in the game. The sheer star power the Sixers possess is going to be fascinating to watch on the floor.
With that being said, there are certainly going to be questions for this group. There is a lot that the Sixers need to figure out in order to get everybody on the same page and find that rhythm and groove in order to seriously challenge a team like the New York Knicks--the current defending champions. The Knicks have a core that has been together for quite a while and the Sixers will need to find a way to overcome the upcoming challenges.
Former Los Angeles Lakers guard Byron Scott offers up a cautionary tale when it comes to adding so many big stars to a roster. The biggest example was the 2003-04 Lakers (h/t LeBron Wire):
"We can go all the way back to the early parts in the 2000s," Scott said on his "Fast Break" podcast. "You got Karl Malone, Gary Payton, Kobe Bryant, Shaq (Shaquille O'Neal), and you still got D Fish (Derek Fisher). You still got an unbelievable starting lineup and on paper, everybody said, 'Oh, they gonna win a championship.' What happened? They played Detroit Pistons, who was a team. A much better team. A much better cohesive group of guys who wanted nothing more than to win.
"And you had friction on that Laker team with Gary Payton and some of the other guys. And then you had the peacemaker being Karl Malone and then Karl got hurt, which really killed their chances of winning the championship and Detroit went through them four games to one, right? So talent on paper don't mean a whole lot. It means you got talent, that's about all it means. It doesn't mean or guarantee that you going to win the championship."

Srinath said at EEMAGINE event by recalling the incident, which has been regarded as an act of gamesmanship that disturbed Waugh and the Australian team during the course of the famous series that India won 2-1. Ganguly later said that he couldn't find his blazer which led to the delay, but that's highly debatable.

Srinath, however, praised Ganguly's leadership, particularly his ability to nurture youngsters such as Yuvraj Singh, Harbhajan Singh and Virender Sehwag. He felt Indian cricket underwent a major transformation after the match-fixing scandal of the late 1990s, with players developing a collective resolve to restore the game's image.

"There was a bit of a resoluteness in each and every player to really put that image back and then prove the world that cricket is superior, cricket is clean," Srinath said. He added that leadership came from the top four or five players being on the same page, which helped India not only start winning consistently at home but also turn the corner overseas.

Srinath recalled that between 1991 and 1997-98, India struggled to win abroad, but things began changing from 1999 onwards.

Looking back at the 2003 World Cup final against Australia, Srinath revealed that he had wanted India to bat first after a discussion within the team. "I was one of the guys who said we should always bat first and then put them under pressure," he said. But Ganguly had a different view. And once the decision was made, Srinath said the team had to move on, but Australia were simply too strong.

He recalled recommending Zaheer to selector Chandu Borde after watching the left-arm pacer take six wickets against Air India while representing the MRF Pace Foundation. When Borde jokingly asked what would happen to Srinath if Zaheer was picked, his response was simple: "If he's good, he replaces me."

Srinath also revealed that Rahul Dravid was "not the best roommate," joking about the former India batter's habit of leaving things scattered, while describing Venkatesh Prasad as extremely "spick and span".

On Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, Srinath cautioned against comparisons with Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli, stressing that different eras bring different challenges.

"When you judge a player it's just not the white ball, it is the red ball cricket as well. Sooryavanshi is a wonderful talent, I think he's still too young. I hope he develops the maturity like Sachin and has that strong head on his shoulders like Virat."

Srinath also called for a better balance between bat and ball, pointing to shorter boundaries, bigger bats and less ***** ounced seams. "Something needs to be done to bring some balance into this game," he said.

After announcing plans to close hundreds of underperforming locations in the first half of 2026, a fast-food burger chain has revealed major changes across its business, including the possibility of additional restaurant closures, as it works to reverse ongoing declines in traffic and sales.
The company has also acknowledged that its focus on cost and efficiency has, in some cases, weakened the brand's differentiation, a challenge it now faces as competition in the restaurant industry grows.
The chain is also facing challenges with customer satisfaction. Wendy's scored 77 out of 100 in the American Customer Satisfaction Index (ACSI), placing it below several major fast-food rivals in the 2026 rankings.
Wendy's (WEN) is taking action after reporting its sixth consecutive quarter of declines, launching a major turnaround plan and updating its capital allocation strategy to provide the flexibility needed to support that effort.
"Today we are clearly not performing at our potential," said Wendy's President and CEO Bob Wright in the company's second-quarter fiscal 2026 earnings release. "I returned to Wendy's because I believe we can fix our issues and I am excited to work with our team and our franchisees to drive a strong turnaround."

It faced a major challenge last year when higher tariffs were imposed on goods produced in China, and it raised some of its prices to counteract the increases. That led to an expanded gross margin in the 2026 fiscal fourth quarter (ended March 31) to 73% despite some continual tariff impact.
E.l.f. is also facing its challenges head-on by expanding. It made a major move last year when it acquired model Hailey Bieber's Rhode cosmetics, its first foray into luxury cosmetics.
