Ahead of his ****** le defense, Makhachev broke down the matchup andGarry's skill set. The former lightweight champ claims he'sprepared to chase "The Future" in their upcoming bout, given howthe latter has mostly fought on the back foot.

"His skills: I just have to run in this camp too much because Ihave to follow him," Makhachev told MMA Fighting. "He runs toomuch. I know his game plan. We always see his fights. He has thesame style always. I will try to catch him, take him down, justwhat I did with my old opponents."

Garry has trained alongside former UFC lightweight championCharles"Do Bronxs" Oliveira, who fought Makhachev for the 155-poundtitle in 2022. However, Makhachev doesn't believe his formeropponent has much advice to offer, especially considering he madelight work of the Brazilian, submitting him in the second round oftheir clash.

"Charles is going to teach him how to tap fast. That's it,"Makhachev added.

The Dodgers were supposed to have two games on Fox during this road trip, but last Saturday in The Bronx rain got in the way and postponed the middle game against the Yankees. So we'll have to settle on a single Fox game on the road trip, on Saturday against the Mets at Citi Field.

There might be only a handful of players in baseball whose absence can change the course of a trade deadline, but Aaron Judge is definitely one of them. The New York Yankees' captain has been on the shelf since June 1 due to a stress fracture in his first rib, and the void in the Bronx Bombers' lineup has really been felt.
For almost two months now, Judge and the Yankees have been playing the waiting game as his body heals from the stress fracture that he believes he suffered in April. And while it has been a slow process, after seeing multiple doctors and getting multiple scans, Judge appears to be moving forward.
"There's some progress, some healing going on, but it's not fully healed," he told reporters on July 17. "We're still waiting on one more doctor to take a look at it and see how we progress forward the next couple of weeks, but it's definitely a positive sign that we're seeing some healing.
"There were a couple of weeks that were tough, and I really couldn't do a lot," he continued, "but now I'm feeling 10 times better. That was my big complaint. If I'm feeling better, how about we start moving? But I think they just don't want to start adding baseball activities, and all of a sudden, we have a setback that pushes everything back."
While the good news is that Judge's injury is healing, the bad news is that this is not an injury that heals quickly; this one takes time. As we approach the month of August, the three-time MVP has not yet been cleared to do upper-body activities, let alone baseball activities. What's more, after a more than two-month layoff, any player, including Judge, will need time to not only get back in baseball shape but also get his timing back with some type of rehab **** ignment.

A 63-year-old Bronx man was arrested after police say he drove a Subaru through the closed security gates at Beyoncé and Jay-Z's East Hampton home, severely damaging the entrance.
The East Hampton Star reported that the crash happened on Wednesday afternoon at the couple's property in the Georgica neighborhood. Investigators have not determined whether the man was targeting the house or its famous owners, and police said they found no weapons or a note explaining his actions.
A security guard told officers the vehicle traveled up the driveway at a high rate of speed and failed to stop at the closed mechanical gates. After the impact, the driver remained inside the damaged car until the property's security team instructed him to get out. He complied and was restrained before village police arrived.
"He wasn't making threats. He seemed confused," Detective Sgt. Jennifer Dunn said.

It's been a tough three-to-four weeks for Yankees fans, as they've seen their team that once stood 46-28 with the best record in the American League stumble through a 4-14 stretch. It was enough for the upstart Rays to pass them for first place in the AL East, and even though the Yanks have won their last couple contests, they still trail Tampa Bay by four games.
The Rays also have one of the lighter remaining slates by current strength of schedule, so that's not helping matters, nor is the fact that the Yankees will have to sweep their only remaining series against the Rays (a four-game set at the Bronx in late September that includes a doubleheader) to take the head-to-head tiebreaker that didn't go their way last year against Toronto. The second half formally begins next Friday, but mathematically, we are already halfway through the 162-game slate, and FanGraphs currently projects the Rays with a 59-percent chance to take the division. The Yankees sit at 38 percent with none of the remaining teams sitting above 1.5 percent.
As such—and given the gloomy vibes around the team this week—it's not surprising to see that per our SB Nation Reacts results, only about a quarter of the Yankees fans who responded said that they believe this team will win the AL East. A total of 18 percent even predicted that they would miss the playoffs entirely:
The most popular vote has the Yankees finishing in the spot they presently occupy and the one they held at the end of the 2025 regular season: the top AL Wild Card and hosting a first-round best-of-three against the second-best Wild Card. The Yankees survived that rumble with the Red Sox last year, but it certainly put them behind the eight-ball against the top-seeded Blue Jays, and that could certainly happen again this year with Tampa Bay.

The Gaels recently announced Jacob Ferreira as their new head coach, succeeding Tom Straehle, who retired.
Most recently, the 26-year-old Ferreira was an ****** istant coach at Horace Greeley, his alma mater. He was Section 1 champion in 2017 at 170 pounds and again at 182 pounds, advancing to the state final in 2018. Ferreira went on to compete at Bucknell, N.C. State and Hofstra, qualifying for the NCAA Championships for Hofstra in 2023. He now teaches social studies at Bronx Dance Academy.
Straehle, 62, established the Iona Prep program in 2006 and earned his 300th dual meet victory last December.
"It means a lot," Ferreira said. "I've always wanted to be a head wrestling coach, especially at a storied program like Iona Prep. I think I'm ready for the challenge."

The New York Yankees have been a mess lately, especially defensively.
The sputtering Yankees have lost 12 of their last 15 games, including nine of their last 10. Their offense has disappeared without Aaron Judge, averaging just 2.8 runs per game over their last 17 contests.
While the Bronx Bombers have fallen off a cliff at the plate, they've collapsed in the field as well. New York has committed a staggering 20 errors in its last 15 games, contributing to 29 unearned runs during that stretch.
According to Katie Sharp, that's the most unearned runs allowed by the Yankees in a 15-game stretch since 1935.

The leaders in the American League and specifically the AL East open a four-game series tonight in St. Petersburg when the New York Yankees (49-40) take the field against the first-place Tampa Bay Rays (52-35). Tampa Bay enters the night holding a four-game lead over New York in the East and boasting one of the best home records in baseball at 31-12, while the Yankees arrive looking to halt a difficult stretch that has seen them lose 12 of their last 15 games.
Both clubs are coming off disappointing losses on Sunday. The Yankees were handled 6-1 by the Twins in the Bronx, continuing a rough weekend in which Minnesota scored 17 runs over the final two games of the series. New York has now dropped two straight and has struggled offensively of late, scoring just 41 runs during its recent 15-game slide. Tampa Bay was shut out 2-0 by Houston. Even with Sunday's defeat, the Rays have won nine of their last eleven games.
The marquee attraction tonight is the favorite to win the Cy Young, New York’s Cam Schlittler (8-5, 2.08 ERA). He’ll take the mound opposite converted Rays’ starter Griffin Jax (4-5, 3.45 ERA). Schlittler enters the series leading American League starters in ERA while ranking among the league leaders in strikeouts. Through 104 innings, he owns a sparkling 0.96 WHIP and 123 strikeouts. Schlittler’s last start, however, was less than Cy Young-worthy. It was easily his worst of the season. Against Detroit last week, he was tagged for six runs including four home runs over just four innings in a 9-3 loss. For Tampa Bay, Jax has quietly been a dependable arm despite a 4-5 record. His 3.45 ERA and 1.27 WHIP reflect solid mid-rotation production, although the biggest concern has been the long ball; he has surrendered 11 homers in 60 innings. Oh by the way, the Yankees lead all of baseball with 128 home runs.
The Yankees’ primary issues during this recent but extended run of poor play have been hitting and defense. As noted earlier, they are averaging less than three runs per game over the past three weeks. Couple that with atrocious defense - 20 errors and 29 unearned runs over the last 15 games (most by a Yankees’ team in any 15-game span since 1935) and the result is obvious; they have fallen out of first in the East and are far enough behind Tampa to make this series crucial.
The Difference of late for the Rays has been Junior Caminero who has homered ten times in his last ten games.

The Detroit Tigers opened July with three wins in four tries while going 5-1 on their road trip after securing a 6-3 win over the Texas Rangers in Arlington on Sunday afternoon. Riley Greene paced the offense with a three-hit day, falling short of the cycle by just a measly base hit, while Casey Mize threw his second-straight quality start en route to the victory.
This week, the Motor City Kitties return home for a six-game home stand heading into the All-Star break, starting with a trio against the Athletics beginning on Tuesday night. Left-hander Tarik Skubal will get the start in the opener looking to build upon his best outing since returning from the disabled list.
Last time out in the Bronx, the 29-year-old allowed two runs (one earned) on just one hit — a solo home run — and zero walks while striking out nine New York Yankees plus a hit batter over six innings of work en route to his fourth win of the 2026 campaign in a 9-3 triumph for the Tigers.
Up against Skubal for the Athletics will be right-hander J.T. Ginn, who also had a strong outing last time out after experiencing a rough June. The 27-year-old threw six frames of one-run ball on three hits (one home run) and five walks while striking out four Los Angeles Dodgers to earn his seventh win of the season in a 7-1 final.

One of the things that wears on you in stretches like this is the recaps actually start to annoy you. Look, I get it, I’m a silly little baseball blogger, I’m not an ER nurse working a double shift or a teacher paying for their own Elmer’s glue while kids can no longer sound out unfamiliar words. My work here is reasonably low stakes. But my oh my are these games absolute drags to try and ****** yze. The Yankees lost again, badly, because the starter got set on fire and Camilo Doval cannot pitch at the major league level.
11-4 is your holiday final from the Bronx.
For Brendan Beck, it was a hang with ‘em kind of day. Called up to make a spot start with Carlos Rodón moved to the IL yesterday, and it looked like Beck was never comfortable out there. He walked the first man he saw before Byron Buxton put the Twins on the board with a double, only for Kody Clemens to take Beck deep and before an out was recorded, the Yankees were down 3-0.
Minnesota added two more home runs in the second, including Alex Jackson’s first of the year, after the top three in the Yankee order went down smoothly to start their own day. Beck managed to get through the third without further damage, but the team was down 5-0 early. I’ll be honest in that my ****** ysis is somewhat weak today as I was watching Canada put on a masterclass of a first half before fading in the second. Beck’s secondary offerings seem promising but his fastball seems awful flat for an MLB pitcher.

The New York Yankees have been sorely missing their captain of late. They're toiling through their longest losing streak of the season, a skid that reached seven games on Wednesday after the Detroit Tigers handed the Yankees a 6-2 defeat in 11 innings and brought out the brooms in the Bronx. New York (48-38) has now been swept two series in a row and is staring up at the Tampa Bay Rays in the AL East standings.
Aaron Judge hasn't played since May 31. He's been on the injured list for nearly four weeks with a stress fracture of his right rib, an injury he believes sprouted while he dove for a ball in shallow right field on his 34th birthday amid a 7-4 loss to the Houston Astros.
Normally, the seven-time All-Star can effect change with his play. He's a three-time AL MVP, after all, and the owner of the ****** le for two seasons running. For now, though, he's sidelined. He told reporters Wednesday prior to the Yankees' series finale versus the Tigers that he had no injury update for them and wouldn't until he received new scans.
"You know how it goes around here — guys can feel good, feel bad, but you've got to wait on images," he said, per The ****** ociated Press.
When Judge was diagnosed with his injury, the Yankees said he'd have additional imaging in approximately four to six weeks.

For many veteran major leaguers, retirement doesn't arrive with a formal announcement. Instead, it begins with fewer workouts, fewer phone calls from clubs and an acceptance that the next chapter of life may be waiting beyond the mound.
That appears to be where former New York Yankees pitcher Shane Greene finds himself after spending parts of 10 seasons in the majors, including two separate stints in the Bronx and an All-Star campaign that established him as one of baseball's top late-inning relievers.
Speaking recently on the “Baseball & Coffee Conversations” podcast with host and former big-league reliever Adam Ottavino, Greene stopped short of officially retiring, but he revealed that he has taken a step back from a career that included a notable, decade-long stint in the majors.
“We’re not using the R word yet,” Greene said on the podcast, on whether he is officially retired. “But we are not actively training to pitch. So life is good.”

For the Tigers, it was misery in May ... and jacks in June.
The Tigers walloped a whopping 49 home runs in June, which is tied for the most in a single month in franchise history. This is a franchise, mind you, that is 126 years old and has played baseball in more than 700 months.
The Tigers had just 18 home runs in May, when they were 6-22. They were 15-11 in June, thanks, in large part, to the power surge — plus some really good starting pitching, with an exclamation point the last two nights in the Bronx by Casey Mize and Tarik Skubal.
The Tigers had just one game in May in which they hit more than one home run, and in that game, they hit two.
In June, the Tigers hit six once, five three times (including in Tuesday night's 9-3 romp), and four twice. Colt Keith even homered three times in one game. The Tigers, as a team, never even homered three times in a game in May.

The 2026 MLB All-Star Game is Tuesday, July 14th. Certain players have been elected as starters for the upcoming Mid-Summer Classic, and a handful of players are finalists to represent their respective leagues. He strikes out a lot, but Chisholm is one of the better power-hitting second basemen. Entering the week, he is one of two MLB second basemen with double-digit home runs and stolen bases. His success has helped New York compete in the AL East.
The White Sox are in first, and Chase Meidroth has helped in the team's success. Entering the week, he is tied for fifth in hits among MLB second basemen. He has had great success hitting at the top of Chicago's lineup.

Police say a 25-year-old man was tossed from his bull and trampled while participating in a rodeo in the Bronx. An off-duty EMT says she jumped in to treat the man when no medical personnel immediately appeared to be on the scene. NBC News' Morgan Chesky reports.

The Tigers (35-49) and the Yankees (48-35) open a three-game series tonight in the Bronx. Each team takes the field at Yankee Stadium with a distinct limp after tough times over the weekend.
The Yankees were swept in Boston by the Red Sox and are 3-7 in their last ten games. As a result, they have fallen out of first in the AL East and now trail the Rays by a game. Detroit lost three of four at home against Houston and have now lost five of their last six to drop 14 games below .500.
New York's weekend at Fenway was one to forget. The Yankees managed just nine total runs while being swept by the Red Sox, losing 6-3 on Thursday, 6-1 on Friday, 4-1 on Saturday, and 5-4 in 10 innings last night. The issues had everything to do with the offense…or lack thereof. The Yankees hit just .133 in the series (17-128) and were 4-24 (.167) with runners in scoring position.
Detroit's weekend against Houston was slightly more successful. Although they did salvage one game of the series and did score 20 runs over the course of the four games, the Tigers continue to struggle to string together wins and climb back into the AL Central and Wild Card races.
The Yankees took two of three from Detroit in Motown last week.

The Yankees are lucky this series is in Boston, because after three pretty gross outings in a row against the Red Sox, they’d almost certainly booed by the Bronx like the hunter who shot Bambi’s mom. They can get a little bit of good vibes back today by managing a single win in this four-game set, though they’ll need to beat arguably the BoSox’s best in order to do it.
Sonny Gray, who I’m sure many of us remember, has been quite effective from a pure run prevention standpoint. He’s top 20 in baseball by ERA albeit with a 70-inning threshold, but what should be noteworthy is how his strikeouts have disappeared. He sat down 26.7 percent of batters faced last year and over 30 percent two years ago, but manages just a 21.1 percent this year. Far more **** in play are available against Gray, and while he’s juiced his ground-ball rate to something we haven’t seen from him this side of COVID-19. If the Yankees can elevate against him, there are runs on the table here.
Meanwhile, Carlos Rodón will once again take the stage for the Yankees. I don’t want to harp on Carlos too much, he’s a fair pitcher who probably isn’t what you’re paying him to be but his wife is an excellent social media follow. He hasn’t allowed more than three runs a start all year. I hate watching him pitch. He is a laborious viewing prospect, seemingly spotting every hitter an extra pitch and being one of the slowest pitchers in baseball in terms of how long he holds the ball for. Cam Schlittler is the second-slowest, but at least he seems to dock a pitch per hitter rather than donate one. I hope Rodón pitches well, but I doubt I’ll enjoy the journey.
We have a bit of a funky lineup today, with Aaron Boone seemingly try to shake the tree and see if a few runs drop out. Against the righty Gray, Jazz Chisholm Jr. will lead us off for the first time all season–first time as a Yankee actually–and traditional lefty platoon hitter Amed Rosario will DH and bat sixth. This means Paul Goldschmidt is the odd man out, with the league’s oldest position player given the day off. Oswaldo Cabrera also gets his first start since the ugly ankle injury that ended his season early in May 2025.
How to watch

Did the Cincinnati Reds catch a break when the New York Yankees opted to shuffle their starting rotation for the series finale? We’ll find out this afternoon!
The Reds were initially slated to face six-time All Star and former Cy Young Award winner Gerrit Cole in Sunday’s series finale, but manager Aaron Boone made the call to ****** p their rotation all back one day instead. The Yankees are in the middle of playing 16 games in 16 days, and that was enough to prompt the 1st place Yanks to ease the strain on the arms they’ll depend on as they make their playoff push later this year.
Instead, New York will roll out rookie Elmer Rodriguez, who’s made a trio of starts at the big league level and pitched well enough (4.15 ERA) in that time. MLB Pipeline ranked him the #2 prospect in the Yankee system in their most recent update (and #59 overall) on the back of a fastball he can throw up to 99 mph, so the Reds won’t be up against some ****** ody on the day – they just won’t be up against Gerrit Cole.
The Yankees, meanwhile, will be up against Chase Burns.
Burns has already accrued 3.9 bWAR so far in less than half the 2026 season, his mix of fastball/slider simply devastating to teams he faces. He’ll toe the rubber knowing a victory today would give the Reds a series victory on the road in the Bronx, and he seems like precisely the kind of guy you’d want your team to have on the mound knowing that’s what’s at stake today.

George Mason, Richmond, La Salle and Dayton will come to the Ryan Center and challenge the Rams in 2026-27, their first campaign under new coach Colleen Mullen.
URI and the Patriots both posted 16-2 marks in conference play last year, and the Rams earned the No. 1 seed in the conference tournament thanks to a win head-to-head. URI then followed by capturing the automatic berth to the NCAA Tournament, its first in 30 years.
The Spiders closed on game behind that pair at 15-3 and were dethroned after controlling the league for the previous two years. The Explorers finished tied with Philadelphia rival Saint Joseph's at 10-8 and the Flyers checked in one game behind at 9-9, sitting even with Loyola Chicago.
The Rams played home-and-home with George Mason, La Salle, George Washington, Saint Louis and Fordham. The Revolutionaries finished 7-11 and the Billikens slipped to 5-13. The Bronx version of the Rams couldn't escape the league basement, closing 2-16.

Jalen Brunson and Josh Hart have already become Knicks legends, and even a trip to Yankee Stadium turned into another moment fans will remember.
Fresh off their ****** le-winning season, the pair were in the Bronx to throw out ceremonial first pitches before the Yankees hosted the Chicago White Sox. But it was not the pitches that got fans talking, it was what happened later when the camera found them in the stands.

The Knicks have tapped legendary ABC play-by-play voice Mike Breen, who is also the team’s local play-by-play voice on MSG, to be the emcee of the championship ceremony at New York’s City Hall.
The news comes from Stefan Bondy of the New York Post. According to Bondy, Breen will also be part of the larger parade down New York’s “Canyon of Heroes.”
Breen grew up a Knicks fan in Yonkers, New York, just north of the Bronx. He would go on to attend Fordham University in the Bronx.
He has been ******* ociated with Knicks broadcasts since 1991, when he was hired on Knicks radio on WFAN. He moved to the television booth in the 1997–98 season, replacing Marv Albert after Albert’s firing. Breen later returned to radio from 1999 to 2004 before rejoining the television booth, where he has remained ever since.
Nationally, Mike Breen worked with NBC as a backup play-by-play announcer and primary WNBA voice from 1998 to 2002 before joining ESPN in 2003. He became ESPN’s lead NBA voice in 2006 and has called every NBA Finals since.

The White Sox owe the Guardians a fruit basket because after another Bronx beatdown, Chicago is barely clinging to first. The Sox got thumped, dropping to 38-34 and torching their positive run differential on the way out.
The night started with some promise. Miguel Vargas, still glowing from his MLB Network cameo with Mark DeRosa, ripped a two-out double in the first.
Then Colson Montgomery battled for 12 pitches, only to pop out. Cue the Yankees: Anthony Kay got two quick outs, then Amed Rosario doubled, and Cody Bellinger smashed a two-run shot to right-center. Just like that, 2-0 hole.
The Sox had their shots, but the clutch hits never came. In the second, Everson Pereira drew a leadoff walk and Edgar Quero singled, only to watch Braden Montgomery bounce into a rally-killing double play. Meanwhile, Kay continued struggling with his command. José Caballero reached after being hit by a pitch in the second, Anthony Volpe tripled him home, and Ali Sánchez added an RBI single, and suddenly it’s 4-0 Yankees. Kay burned through 52 pitches just to escape two innings.
Finally, some life in the third. Chase Meidroth and Randal Grichuk singled, then Colson yanked a pitch from Carlos Rodón into the short porch for a three-run bomb. Suddenly it’s 4-3.

It was just four seasons ago that Anthony Volpe won the battle to be the next shortstop for the New York Yankees.
He had the perfect story to be Derek Jeter’s long-time successor. A New York native playing shortstop for his favorite team, the Yankees. It’s a plot right out of a movie. As it turns out, this Bronx tale may have a sad ending in sight.
Instead of being a cornerstone in the Yankee lineup for years to come, Volpe has found himself fighting to keep the job as new talent emerges. His recent struggles have shown the Yankees that they may have overestimated his projections.
Volpe started the season on the IL recovering from shoulder surgery. After nine games down in the minors, he was called up to the Bronx after Jose Caballero went down with a fractured finger. This was Volpe’s time to make a point to the organization that he is still their long-term shortstop.
Volpe took this opportunity and got off to a solid start, hitting .281 with a 156 wRC+ (Weighted Runs Created Plus) in his first 10 games back. Optimism settled in, and fans thought the 25-year-old was getting back on track after his putrid 2025 campaign. But as each game passed, the early positives quickly became negatives as reality crept in.

Still buzzing from the huge win, Cardi declared: "We outside right now!"
She then explained that she needed to get glam immediately because "the streets are calling me," making it very clear there was no chance she planned to stay home after a Knicks win like that.

The Knicks' practice-day media session at Madison Square Garden welcomed two unexpected guests on Sunday: New York City legends Fat Joe and Jadakiss.
Fat Joe arrived with a message for a fan base that spent much of the last two decades directing its frustrations at Knicks owner James Dolan.
The Bronx-born rapper believes Dolan deserves far more credit than he's received.
"Shoutout to Mr. Dolan. Greatest team owner in the game," Fat Joe said. "Very misunderstood. They villainize Mr. Dolan almost like a Bruce Wayne, like Batman in Gotham City because he's an elite. But this man: All these watch parties. That man's taking care of us."
For years, Dolan's name became synonymous with the Knicks' dysfunction. He presided over failed eras built around stars such as Stephon Marbury, Amar'e Stoudemire and Carmelo Anthony, while championship expectations routinely gave way to disappointment. But with the Knicks in the NBA Finals for the first time since 1999, Dolan is experiencing something unfamiliar: public praise.
