Clemson football enters fall camp without a shortage of options in the backfield, and Dabo Swinney expects several of them to have a role this season.
For now, though, Gideon Davidson is getting the first opportunity.
The sophomore will begin camp working as Clemson's first-team running back after showing Swinney significant growth since his freshman season.
"It is going to start with Gideon. He has really done a great job," Swinney said.
Davidson isn't the only player Clemson will be evaluating closely over the next several weeks. Chris Johnson Jr. joined the program this offseason after playing at Miami and SMU, giving the Tigers another experienced option.

Rohit Sharma's 2027 World Cup future has become a talking point again, but former India teammate Ajinkya Rahane believes there should be no uncertainty surrounding the veteran opener's place in the squad.

Rahane, who retired from all forms of cricket last month, has called on the Indian team management to give Rohit a clear commitment over his World Cup future rather than ***** sing his place from one series to another.

The debate around Rohit's international career intensified during India's ODI tour of England last month. Speculation grew after a media report claimed that the former India captain could call time on his career at the end of the tour.

Those reports were subsequently dismissed by BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia and Rohit himself. The uncertainty, however, has not completely disappeared, with reports now suggesting that the selectors may have reservations about including the veteran in India's squad for the 2027 ODI World Cup.

Rahane, though, feels there should be no discussion about Rohit's place if the opener is willing to continue until the tournament.

"I think it's important to tell Rohit Sharma that he's going to play the 2027 World Cup," Rahane said. "If you see his contribution throughout so many years, it's been amazing. So you need the experience of such a player in the World Cup. That discussion shouldn't even happen. If you say once, 'Rohit Sharma, you're going to play,' that's it. You can't go series by series because he's such a big player."

According to Rahane, constantly questioning an experienced player's position can have an impact on his mindset and rhythm. He believes players perform best when they know where they stand within the team.

"If you treat a big player like that, because as I said, it's about rhythm. Cricket is about rhythm. No matter how many matches you've played, whether you're a youngster or an experienced player in the team, it's about rhythm. If your mind is free, you can play with that mindset."

Rahane also insisted that Rohit's credentials and experience should not be up for debate, particularly with a major tournament such as the 2027 World Cup on the horizon.

"As for Rohit's quality, there's no need to even speak about it. Such experience is needed in the team, so this debate shouldn't even happen between the team management and the captain. Agar unko khelna hai 2027 World Cup, toh unko khelna hai," he added. (If he wants to play in the 2027 World Cup, then he should play.)

The latest round of speculation comes despite Rohit making a strong statement on the field during the England series.

Saikia had previously rejected reports that the third ODI against England would be Rohit's final match in the format. Rohit followed that up with a commanding century in the game, providing a timely reminder of his value to the Indian side.

Yet, the questions returned shortly afterwards. Some media reports claimed that the BCCI leadership and selectors were not completely

According to English outlet The Daily Mirror, Newcastle United have identified João Palhinha as an option in their search for an experienced midfielder following the departures of Bruno Guimaraes and Sandro Tonali.
With Aston Villa also reportedly interested, the situation could develop into a race for the Portuguese international's signature. Villa may now be forced to accelerate their efforts, having previously been reluctant to meet Bayern Munich's asking price, with Newcastle potentially able to spend following their significant sales this summer.
Aston Villa sporting director Damián Vidagany revealed his side's interest in Palhinha in recent days, stating: "João Palhinha is a very good player who would fit our plans. We are in talks, but there's currently no agreement."
Bayern are reportedly demanding €25 million for the 31-year-old, a figure Villa are currently unwilling to meet. A loan deal is also not considered an option, although it remains to be seen whether Newcastle would be prepared to meet Bayern's demands.
It is worth noting that Newcastle are currently in talks with Marseille for midfielder Pierre-Emile Højbjerg, with Palhinha being viewed as an alternative at this stage.

LSU football offensive lineman Braelin Moore was named to the Rimington Trophy preseason watch list. The annual award is presented to the most outstanding center in NCAA Division I. The only Tiger to ever win the award is Ben Wilkerson, who took it home in 2004.
In 2025, LSU struggled to establish a rhythm on offense. A big problem was an injury-plagued offensive line, which led to movement across positions and an inconsistent showing in front of quarterback Garrett Nussmeier. Head coach Lane Kiffin made the group a priority in the offseason, which included securing Moore's return.
Moore dealt with a lingering ankle injury throughout last season but was solid when healthy. 2026 will be his second season in Baton Rouge and fifth in college football. He spent three seasons at Virginia Tech before joining the Tigers.
LSU brought in several transfer offensive linemen who project as starters, including Jordan Seaton and Aliou Bah. Moore bridges the gap between newcomers and inexperienced players from last season's roster. His ability to stay in the lineup will play a major role in LSU's success.

LSU football linebackers Princewill Unanmielen and Whit Weeks were named to the preseason watch list for the Bronko Nagurski Trophy. The annual award is presented to the best defensive player in the NCAA. Glenn Dorsey won the award in 2007 and he is the only LSU player to do so.
Umanmielen and Weeks are two of the most explosive and experienced defenders in the country. Both could've made the jump to the NFL after last season but decided to play for Lane Kiffin in his first season leading the Tigers.
Weeks broke his ankle during the Week 5 game against Ole Miss last year. The linebacker was in and out of the lineup for the rest of the season but largely shut things down in Week 8, a disappointing second act after breaking out as a sophomore in 2024. He totaled 125 tackles, including 10 for loss, and 3.5 sacks that year.
Umanmielen transferred to Ole Miss ahead of 2025 after two seasons at Nebraska. The defensive end posted 44 tackles, including 13 for loss, and nine sacks in his lone season with the Rebels. He's a shoo-in for a starting role with the Tigers in his second season under Kiffin.

The Jacksonville Jaguars recently signed veteran linebacker Jahlani Tavai, and defensive coordinator Anthony Campanile detailed what he could potentially add to this defense.
On the surface, this felt like a depth addition as the Jaguars navigate injuries at linebacker. Jack Kiser is currently sidelined, while Jared Bartlett was waived with an injury designation.
However, as Campanile described, Tavai can offer more than that.
"Obviously, we've had some injuries in camp," Campanile said, "but I've seen Jahlani play over the years. Some guys who I know really, really well have coached him, been around him. So there's definitely a familiarity with him and the way he plays. He's been in a system that has a lot of the same tenets as ours when he was in Detroit and then New England. We played very similarly in Miami when I was there. So there's a lot of carry over even just the verbiage to everything -- it's an easier transition for him."
Tavai is an experienced player, having been in the NFL since 2019, when he was a second-round pick by Detroit. He has appeared in 107 games, making 67 starts.

It ends with Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni both trying to move on.
But two years ago, the media frenzy surrounding their movie It Ends With Us was just beginning. Based on Colleen Hoover's novel of the same name, the film—which Lively and Baldoni starred in and he also directed—debuted in theaters Aug. 9, 2024. And while social media users sensed tension between the two actors after the premiere and press tour, fans never anticipated the contentious legal battle that started just four months later.
Lively filed a lawsuit against Baldoni, his production company Wayfarer Studios and several ******* ociates in December 2024, accusing them of launching a smear campaign to ruin her reputation in retaliation of her voicing concern about ******* ual harassment she said she experienced on the film's set from him and others. Baldoni and Wayfarer's legal team vehemently denied the allegations.
Then in January 2025, Baldoni, Wayfarer and others filed a lawsuit against Lively, her husband Ryan Reynolds and her publicist in which they accused them of defamation and extortion. They alleged Lively seized control of the movie and worked to "tar and feather" them in the press after she received backlash for her promotion of the film. Lively's attorneys slammed the accusations.

Revenue growth of 36% was primarily driven by the ECP and advanced packaging categories, which both increased more than 150% year-over-year, reflecting a successful transition into a broader multi-product company.
Management attributes recent success in advanced packaging to a strategic decision made five years ago to invest in horizontal panel-level plating, anticipating a shift from wafer-level to panel-level packaging for AI applications.
The company achieved a significant milestone by receiving orders for its panel-level horizontal plating tools from two customers, including a production order in China and an evaluation system for a new customer in Asia.
Cleaning revenue experienced a 14% decline as the portfolio shifts toward newer SPM (Sulphuric Acid Peroxide Mixture) technologies, which are currently in the shipment phase rather than the revenue recognition phase.

The Washington Commanders experienced a brutal injury blow Saturday as they ready for the 2026 NFL season.
Left tackle Laremy Tunsil tore his triceps during the Commanders' Aug. 8 practice, NFL Network reported. The injury occurred during one-on-one pass rushing drills, per NFL Network, and Tunsil will "likely require surgery and will miss at least a significant portion of the regular season."
Tunsil started 14 games for the Commanders in 2025, his first season with Washington after six years with the Houston Texans that included five Pro Bowl nods. Earlier this offseason Tunsil and Washington agreed to a lucrative contract extension that made him the highest-paid offensive lineman in the sport, per Over The Cap.
Washington is looking to bounce back after a disappointing 2025 season. The team plummeted to 5-12 after going 12-5 and reaching the NFC championship game in 2024. Now, Jayden Daniels and Co. will seemingly have to move forward without their stalwart blindside protector.

Jonah Coleman has always been the perfect advertisement for Jedd Fisch's "Be A Pro" mantra with the Washington Huskies.
Early in his tenure with the Denver Broncos, after the AFC West organization selected him in the fourth round of the 2026 NFL draft, Coleman has already begun to establish himself as a key piece of Sean Payton's rotation at running back, after the head coach told the media he "doesn't feel like a rookie" on Wednesday.
Coleman has quickly picked up steam ahead of his first season in the league, as NFL.com's Gennaro Filice placed him on his preseason All-Rookie Team.
"Checking in at 5-foot-8 and 220 pounds, Coleman is a bowling ball with three-down ability, having eclipsed 1,100 scrimmage yards in each of his final three college campaigns," Filice wrote.
"It's a crowded running back room in Denver, but J.K. Dobbins has never stayed healthy for a full season while RJ Harvey performed best in a specialized role as a rookie. Sean Payton likes taking a committee approach at the position, and Coleman seems like the kind of experienced, well-rounded back who can hit the ground running in the NFL, carving out a significant role in Year 1. He lacks game-breaking speed, but I envision him routinely moving the chains behind Denver's stout offensive line."

Oregon offensive lineman Iapani Laloulu won't remind anyone of NFL legend and Hall of Famer Jerry Rice in either size or abilities on the field. But according to Oregon Duck offensive coordinator Drew Mehringer, they both possess one important trait that all players should have: You're never too old, experienced, or talented to learn new tricks.
"I don't think you could ever really put a value on having a great player with a ton of experience who's also a phenomenal leader. Those people are invaluable," Mehringer said. "I'm super thankful that Poncho (Laloulu) is here. Poncho is the rock, the apex in there. He's not only great for the offensive line unit, but he's great for the offense and the team as a whole."
That's the reason Mehringer was invoking the NFL Hall of Fame wide receiver when discussing his center. Not for the on-field skill set, but for the dedication to the little things and setting an example for others.
"I listened to a story about Jerry Rice in his 19th year in the NFL in the same offense. They're putting in drag and slant-arrow, and he's writing it down like he's never run that play before," Mehringer said. "He's run that play 10,000 times, right? But the point is that he's not 'too big-time' to take notes and learn something new that day. I feel that way about Poncho, and it leaves no excuse for anybody else in the program."
Laloulu seems to be a coach's dream. He listens, takes notes, and ultimately learns from his mistakes in order to get better.

Like he did so many times in his 11-year professional football Hall of Fame career, Roger Craig delivered the goods at Saturday's induction ceremony in Canton, Ohio.
Craig, 66, who waited 28 years before getting the call, waited until the end of his nine-minute recorded speech to reveal the heartbreaking news that he has been diagnosed with vascular dementia.
But the three-time San Francisco 49ers Super Bowl champion running back chose to focus on the gifts that his beloved game bestowed upon him and his family and use Saturday's platform to reach out to successive generations of players to seek medical care when "something doesn't feel right."
"My doctors believe it may be related, at least in part, to the concussions I experienced during my career," Craig said. "The changes were gradual. At first, they were easy to dismiss as normal aging. Over time, my family noticed it, too, and ultimately led us to seek answers from my doctor."
"Two things can be true: Football gave me opportunities beyond anything I could imagine. It helped shape the man I became. At the same time, we know more today about brain health than when I played, and I hope sharing my story encourages people to pay attention to their health and seek help when something doesn't feel right.

Aug 7 (Reuters) - Two federal judges on Friday cleared the way for U.S. President Donald Trump's administration to end temporary protections from deportation that ‌had allowed thousands of people from South Sudan and Myanmar to live and ‌work in the United States.
Judges in Boston and Chicago rejected last-ditch efforts by immigrant-rights advocates to maintain the Temporary Protected Status designations for the two countries after the U.S. Supreme Court in June allowed the administration to end similar protections for thousands of people from Haiti and Syria.
The Supreme Court's ruling, powered by its 6-3 conservative majority, curtailed the ability of lower-court judges to review the U.S. ‌Department of Homeland Security's efforts under Trump to end TPS for about a dozen countries.
The designation covers people whose home countries have experienced natural disasters, armed conflicts or other extraordinary events, providing eligible migrants temporary protection from deportation and work authorization.

Newcastle United appear to be planning for a significant midfield shift, with Foot Mercato reporting that Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg has been placed on the club's shortlist after the departure of Bruno Guimaraes.
There is a certain logic to the move. Hojbjerg, now 31, offers something very specific, ballast, authority and a working knowledge of the Premier League's rhythms. Newcastle are not, if this report is accurate, searching for a like-for-like replacement in style. They are identifying a player who could impose order in a midfield that may soon lose its primary organiser in possession.
The report states that Ross Wilson is directly overseeing Newcastle's interest, a detail that lends the pursuit some seriousness. It also suggests the club are have been prepared for Bruno Guimaraes' move to ****** nal. Guimaraes has often served as both hinge and heartbeat, dictating tempo while carrying Newcastle through pressure.

Hojbjerg would bring a different type of influence. His game has long been built on clarity rather than decoration, positioning rather than improvisation. Newcastle may value that dependability, particularly if they want an experienced midfielder capable of making an immediate impact rather than requiring a season of adaptation.

As more players pursue a fifth year of college eligibility following temporary court injunctions allowing certain athletes to compete for an additional season, schools are beginning to add experienced players to their rosters.
That trend continued with former NC State transfer Darrion Williams, who recently committed to Texas Tech for his fifth and final season, provided the current eligibility ruling remains in place.
Kentucky showed interest in Williams last month, according to Ben Roberts of the Lexington Herald-Leader, but the Wildcats ultimately missed out on the 6-foot-6, 225-pound wing.

Lane Johnson believes the Philadelphia Eagles may already have his eventual replacement on the roster. After indicating that the 2026 season will probably be his last, Johnson offered an impressive endorsement of rookie offensive tackle Markel Bell.
"He's one of the best rookies I've been around," Johnson said.
Johnson also expressed confidence that Bell would do a good job when given an opportunity. That matters coming from a six-time Pro Bowl selection who has spent 14 seasons studying offensive line play and competing against the NFL's best pass rushers. Philadelphia selected Bell with the No. 68 overall pick in the third round of April's draft. The 6-foot-9, 358-pound tackle played on the left side at Miami, but the Eagles began cross-training him at right tackle during the offseason program.
Bell received first-team repetitions at right tackle while Johnson missed four training camp practices because of an excused personal matter. Those snaps gave the Eagles an early opportunity to evaluate how the rookie handled playing next to the starting offensive line.
Moving from left tackle to the right side is not automatic. Bell must adjust his footwork, hand placement, and protection angles as he learns to handle the speed and power of NFL edge rushers. The Eagles do not need him to master everything immediately. Johnson's potential retirement gives Philadelphia a logical development timeline. Bell can spend his rookie season working behind one of the best right tackles in league history, contributing as a reserve and preparing for a larger role in 2027. The Eagles will continue evaluating Bell during training camp and the preseason. Fred Johnson also remains an experienced option, and Philadelphia won't hand a future starting job to Bell based solely on his draft position.

There have been a number of notable senior departures within the City squad since the end of last season with the likes of Bernardo Silva and John Stones having moved on.

However, addressing the media at Saturday's pre-match press conference ahead of Sunday's final 2026 Asia Tour game against Atletico Madrid in Seoul, Lewis said it was a role he was relishing.

Liverpool are about to welcome a new signing. Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that the star is on his way right now.
Liverpool are pushing hard on a few deals right now as they attempt to get Andoni Iraola's squad ready. Better late than never.
Their first deal is imminent, though, and a medical is now booked for Ronald Araujo to join Liverpool from Barcelona. This would only be a loan deal - though, there's reportedly an option to buy of around €55m.
Liverpool need cover at centre-back as both Joe Gomez and Giovanni Leoni are currently injured. Leoni should be back relatively soon, while it's unknown how long Gomez will be out for.
But even when everyone is fit, Liverpool only have two experienced defenders in Virgil van Dijk and Gomez. Van Dijk, though, is 35 and Gomez's injury record means he can't be a reliable option.
